I used to live in Lynchburg and while depressing, this isn't remotely surprising. Lynchburg is Jerry Fallwell's town, and when I lived there in 2000 it was a known thing that student snitches from Liberty University were staking out both the movie theaters and the town's lone sex store to make sure other Liberty students weren't engaging in sin (seeing an R-rated movie or buying some edible panties I guess). The rules this university imposed upon grown adults was fucking WILD.
it's a dog-shit awful place and my heart breaks for these LGBT kids who are stuck growing up there :(

Danny Lyon a young civil rights worker passing through the area took this photo of the girls locked in the stockade. after it went on a major news service the next day it gained national attention. this forced the state of georgia to account for the girls locked in the stockade in Lynchburg illegally.
The public outcry was so strong the entire civil rights cry was amplified. the sight of these young girls locked in this storage room with nothing, for so long meant something had to change

Jack & Coke
Tumblr media
The first known mention of a drink made by mixing whiskey with Coke was in a 1907 report of an employee of the United States Bureau of Chemistry and Soils, who encountered the drink when visiting the South, and said the proprietor called it a "Coca-Cola high-ball". Bourbon and Coke would grow to become a common starting point for introducing novice drinkers to bourbon, according to Dave Pickerell, a former master distiller of the Maker's Mark brand of bourbon.
The term "Jack and Coke" was used in some combined advertising for Jack Daniel's and Coca-Cola, and several products were created as part of this marketing campaign, including bar signs and taps. Around 1996, Jack Daniel's released a canned beverage called "Jack Daniel's and Cola", a mixed beverage of the same type as Jack and Coke, in several markets in the South Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand.
In 2022, Jack Daniel's and Coca-Cola announced the planned release of a ready to drink (RTD) canned cocktail.
