Best Recliner of 2019: Ultimate Relaxation!
See more on Reclinercize:
Nothing beats a good recliner. When you come home after a long day at work, your first reflex is to sit down and relax. Sitting on an uncomfortable chair leaves little to be desired. You can do your back, torso, and legs some much needed justice by getting rid of your tattered chair, and getting a new one.
But where do you even begin your search?
Before making a decision you should consider the different types of recliners available to you. We attempted to pick one from each category, ranging from lift chair to push back.
The next thing to consider are your upholstery and frame options. Some people prefer faux leather and others want the real deal, and some people only want microfiber and fabric blends.

1. Best Overall
Signature Design by Ashley Larkinhurst Rocker Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
First of all, let’s take a look at the design. The Larkinhurst has a beautiful rustic look to it. This look is especially accentuated by the deep earth tone of the recliner. Also, the rich texture of the material and the rolled arms give it plenty of charm.
The fact that the color is pretty neutral allows you to pair it with sofas and other furniture of any color, without ruining the concept of your interior design. The weathered faux leather makes it especially pleasing to the eye.
If you’re going for a more toned-down living room or bedroom, you should definitely opt for this recliner. On the other hand, you can also pair it with brighter tables and sofas, and the styles and colors won’t clash.
Next, let’s talk about the durability. The Larkinhurst rocker recliner is exceptionally durable. The frame construction is reinforced with strong metal, and so is the footrest. As for the materials, they are expertly glued at the corners, and additionally stapled and blocked to keep them in place. The fabric itself is pre-approved for wearability against AHFA standards.
This recliner is equipped with comfy overstuffed pillows that give you extra support for your back. The Larkinhurst provides you with comfort and quality, so no need to worry about back pain anymore!
With all these great features in mind, you’re probably a bit worried about the price. Well, there’s no need for that! This rocker/recliner is not only packed with great features, but it’s also quite affordable.
Pros and cons
Durable construction
Soft earth tone
Rocker
AHFA Pre-approved fabric
Affordable
Lacking in padding for the lower back

2. Best Value
BONZY Power Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
Yet another great recliner is the Bonzy power recliner chair. While there is also a brown model available, the smoke grey one is our favorite. The overall size of the recliner in inches is 42 x 38.5 x 39.4. As for the seat, it’s 22 x 21.5 x 19, and it can support up to 300 lbs, which is pretty impressive.
The recliner features a power reclining system that’s button-controlled, which means that no instructions are necessary to use it. It uses a smooth, gentle motion to adjust. If you’ve suffered an injury, and you have trouble finding a comfortable position, this recliner is exactly what you need. The backrest and cushions support your back, neck, and lumbar region nicely.
The upholstery is durable and has been rigorously tested according to BONZY, so you won’t have to worry about any ripping and tearing. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that the Bonzy recliner has not one, but two cup holders installed! That alone makes it the ultimate movie-watching recliner!
Pros and cons
Supports up to 300 lbs
Durable upholstery
Offers great back, neck, and lumbar support
Button-controlled
Two cup holders
It’s designed as an “oversized” recliner. Could be considered a con for some.

3. Best with a Lift
Bonzy Classic Power Lift Chair
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
The next entry on our list is the Bonzy Lift Recliner. Now, this recliner is remote controlled, so that’s quite an exciting feature to start off with. Lift recliners are great for people who suffer from severe arthritis and pain in their joints. The Bonzy recliner allows you to adjust the chair to three positions – you can go from sitting down to an upright position in a matter of seconds.
The lift actuator and the scissor mechanism are heavy duty and easy to handle. Namely, you can stop the mechanism at any time while you are lifting or lowering. This function allows you to take on a variety of different positions by simply releasing the selected button on your remote control.
The upholstery is made out of top-quality fabric which is soft to touch. Also, the cushion padding is filled with high-density sponge, which makes you feel like you’re sitting on a cloud.
When purchasing this recliner, you will get a one-year warranty on the fabric, and a three-year warranty on both the reclining mechanism and the frame. That makes it a great option for those of you who want a long-term warranty for your furniture.
Pros and cons
Heavy duty mechanism and frame
Long-term warranty
Soft padding
Top-quality fabric
Adjusts in various positions
A bit expensive

4. Best on a Budget
Signature Design by Ashley Ludden Rocker Recliner

The Canmov leather recliner is the second manual recliner on our list. It’s a luxury recliner with high-density foam that provides extra comfort. The breathable bonded leather truly makes it a great addition to any living room or home theatre.
This Canmov recliner has a reclining mechanism that adjusts smoothly. All you have to do is pull out the lever on the arm of the chair and adjust it to any position you like. We especially love the brass nails located on the front side of the armrests. They add an interesting detail to the overall style of the recliner.
As we mentioned earlier, the recliner is generously padded and provides a high level of comfort that you can feel the moment you sit on it.
The backrest is steel reinforced, so it’s suitable for intense use. All in all, this Canmov recliner has a sturdy wooden frame and a durable design that will last you for decades to come. Also, if you happen to experience any installation problems, you will get a free exchange for damaged or missing parts. The chair also comes with a two-year warranty.
Pros and cons
Breathable bonded leather
Sturdy wooden frame
Steel reinforced backrest
Doesn’t lock in place when fully reclined.

5. Best in Pushback
Franklin Serenity Lay Flat Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
Now here’s a type of recliner that we haven’t yet covered on our list. The Stone & Beam Marin pushback recliner has a beautiful design that will truly make your living room look elegant. It has a sloped armrest and soft foam cushions. The upholstery is 100% leather.
Another plus is that it’s very easy to clean – you just need to wipe or vacuum the chair.
This recliner is durable since it has a solid wooden frame that’s built to last. The detailing is also amazing in our opinion. It has nail heads on the front of the armrest that are applied to the chair by hand.
Assembling this recliner only takes up to 15 minutes, which isn’t bad at all.
The seat height is 21 inches, and the height of the whole recliner is 41 inches. The width of the chair is 30 inches, and the depth is 36 inches. If you’re looking for a beautifully crafted leather recliner that will add some style to your home, this is it. Of all the recliners on our list, this is the most sophisticated-looking one.
Pros and cons
Easy assembly
Sophisticated design
Durable wooden frame
Leather upholstery
Seat depth is shallow. To be expected in a push-back recliner.
Expensive
What to Look for in a Recliner
Hopefully, you have a clearer picture of what kind of recliner to look for. With that said, there are still some more details to flush out. Let’s take a look at a number of factors to consider.
Types of Recliner
The very first thing you need to consider is what type of recliner you want. For example, if you are looking for a trendy, space-conscious recliner, your go-to type should be a push-back recliner. They take up less space than any other type of recliner.
The downside of push-back recliners is that they’re usually a bit more pricey than the other types. Also, since they take up less space, their seats tend to be pretty shallow. So, if you don’t want to spend too much money on an eye-pleaser, consider a different recliner type.
The complete opposite of a push-back recliner is a rocker recliner. These chairs are great for a number of reasons, the obvious one being that they can rock! You can find these recliners at pretty affordable prices, depending on what you’re looking for. Also, if you’re willing to spend a few extra bucks, you can get a great-looking chair.
Another notable type are risers/lift chairs. These recliners are popular among older folks and people dealing with debilitating issues like arthritis. These chairs make it easier for people to stand up, who otherwise would struggle to do so.
Maintenance, Upholstery, and Durability
The next thing you need to consider is what material you want the chair to be made of. Keep in mind, leather upholstery is the most durable, but it’s also the most expensive. So if you’re not willing to spend a lot on a recliner, you should probably choose a synthetic microfiber instead. Check to see how many times the fabric has been machine-tested for durability. For reference, the best quality ones need to have been rubbed at least 10,000 times.
Maintenance is an important factor as well. Especially if you have small children that love to eat their snacks in front of the TV. Chances are, they’ll want to sit on your comfortable furniture while doing so. Check to see how you can clean the chair without damaging the material. Furniture like recliners and sofas will have care codes that detail how to clean messes depending on the material
Don’t overlook the frame of the recliner. You may not know this, but it’s usually the immobile parts of the recliner that break first. For that reason, it’s important to check the underside of the chair, or rather the construction. Also, remember to check the screws and fasteners. Plastic fasteners are definitely a bad choice, so be careful.
The final thing you need to check is how long the warranty on your recliner is. It’s good to have at least a three-year warranty on any chair, as well as a return policy.
Conclusion
We’ll admit, finding a top-quality recliner can be difficult. Especially if you’re looking for one that’s both stylish and affordable. The bottom line is, you just need to know what you’re looking for. Our favorite recliner is the Larkinhurst rocker recliner, since it’s got plenty of great features, and it’s affordable. However, you can’t go wrong with any of the others on the list. They’re all top-quality chairs that will be a great addition to any home.
Hopefully, after reading our list, you’ll have an easier time finding a recliner that you and your family can enjoy for years to come.

Fixing Leather Scratches on Your Recliner
See more on Reclinercize:
Most homeowners have leather furniture that they cherish, not only due to its durability but also its aesthetics. Good quality leather furniture can withstand at least a quarter century of use, and that’s why most leather furniture is usually passed off as family heirlooms. Unfortunately, leather furniture and animals do not mix.
How to Fix Scratched Leather
If you are thrifty like the team on Reclinercize, most of the damage on your leather furniture can be fixed at home without the need of a professional. Here are a few simple steps you can follow when fixing your leather furniture.
Assess the Level of Damage
1. Minor scratches on your leather furniture are unsightly but only damage the outer coating of the leather. These are mostly easy to fix as just the color of the leather is affected.
2. Deep scratches imply that the leather itself has been cut, and you will be able to view fibers around the cut or worse a tiny bit of stuffing. These can also be fixed at home, albeit not as easy a minor scratch.
3. When the leather fibers are entirely ripped and damaged or cut through you will need the help of a professional as this might require a patch.
How to Fix Minor Scratches
Items needed
Cotton swab applicator
Clean cloth
An oil like olive, orange, baby, saddle oil, Vaseline or lanolin cream
Method
1. Clean off the area thoroughly. 2. Test the effects of the oil on an area of the seat first to check for any adverse effects like discoloration and wait for 15 minutes. 3. If the test shows no adverse effects, proceed to apply and rub the oil onto the scratch using your cotton applicator in a circular motion. Let the oil sit for an hour. 4. Buff the area with a clean cloth. 5. Repeat if the scratch is still visible.
How to Disguise Minor Scratches With Shoe Polish
1. Clean off the area thoroughly 2. Test the effects of the polish on an area of the seat first to check for any adverse effects like discoloration and wait for 15 minutes 3. If the test shows no harmful effects of the polish, proceed to apply and rub the correct color of shoe polish onto the scratch using your cotton applicator and rub it in hard with the cloth. 4. Buff the area thoroughly 5. Repeat if the scratch is still visible, or if the color is too light.
How to Repair Deeper Scratches
Items needed
Clean cloths or sponges
Rubbing alcohol
Sandpaper 1200 grit
Scissors
Leather filler
Spatula
The right shade of colorant
Leather lacquer
Leather finish
Steps to Fix Deep Scratches
1. Use rubbing alcohol to clean off the area for any dirt or debris deposited onto the scratch. 2. Using the pair of scissors carefully trim off all loose fibers. You can alternatively use the sandpaper to sand down them down to a smooth finish. 3. Remove all sandpaper and fiber residue and apply the leather filler using a spatula. 4. Leave it to dry for half an hour but if need be, add extra layers of the filler to cover the scratch sufficiently. 5. Sand the filler down to a smooth and level finish. 6. Wipe off all residue of the filler and sandpaper and let it dry. 7. Dab the right colorant for your seat, all over the filler. If you are unsure of the right color, contact the manufacturer of your furniture or your local leather goods store. 8. Apply a few layers of the colorant to ensure that the filler blends in with the leather. 9. Use a clean cloth to apply the sealant to prevent color rub off or fading. Try 3 or 4 layers for maximum effect. 10. Apply the leather finish to protect the layers below and give it a good shine, using a clean cloth or sponge.

Komene Ergonomic Mesh OfficeChair
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
For a fairly affordable price, this high-back ergonomic office chair from Komene has it all.
Adjustable back, headrest, armrests and seat, all made of a breathable mesh fabric designed to resist heat and moisture. Mesh may not be as stylish as leather, but you will be thankful for it once the summer rolls around. There are no flimsy parts here; this chair looks and feels like the high-end office chair.
The seat can be adjusted 10 cm (4″) up or down, great for a wide variety of heights. The tilt is also adjustable and can be set to 90°, 100° or 110°. That allows you to easily change how you’re sitting, so you can stretch or rest at any time.
The armrests are adjustable, and in case your desk isn’t tall enough for the chair’s armrests to fit underneath, you can always fold them back.
What sets this chair apart from the rest is its nearly flawless design. The mesh back and seat won’t chafe your skin, and both have just enough give to be comfy. The back is sloped so as to follow the curve of your spine.
Lastly, the headrest serves to relieve the stress put on your neck. Most office chairs don’t even have a headrest!
Pros and cons

Includes a headrest

Duramont Ergonomic Adjustable Office Chair
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
When you’re shopping for a high-end office chair, a bargain can be hard to come by. Thankfully, Duramont offers an ergonomic high-back office chair at a very generous price. Not only is it affordable, but it’s also comfy to sit in and has lots of nifty features.
To start with, it’s made of mesh, which allows constant airflow through the fabric. That’s so you can stay cool and free of perspiration during those long hours at the office.
The seat, tilt, tilt tension, armrests and headrest are all adjustable. After all, we come in lots of different shapes, heights, and sizes. Being able to adjust your office chair to fit you is a must.
Duramont put a lot of effort into making this office chair sturdy and reliable. It can safely seat up to 330 lbs of weight. Its casters will roll smoothly and quietly across most floors, and the chair never squeaks.
The only con here is that the armrests are a little wobbly, which is odd for a high-end chair. Also, one or two customers have reported their chairs having a chemical smell.
Pros and cons
Mesh fabric which keeps you cool throughout the day
Fully adjustable
Affordable
Sturdy and reliable, can support up to 330 lbs
Headrest
Armrests are a little wobbly
3. Best in Cushion
TOPSKY Leather Office Chair
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
With its adjustable parts, heat-absorbing mesh back and seat, sturdy base and quality casters, this mid-back office chair from HESSEN has just about everything you could ask for.
First of all, HESSEN went out of their way to make this chair more adjustable than its competitors. Not only can you adjust the seat height, tilt angle, and back tension, but you can also adjust the seat depth, and the armrests are both foldable and rotatable.
Its aluminum alloy base is sturdy enough to seat up to 250 lbs of weight. Also, its elastic, quality mesh fabric is resistant to wear, so you can expect this chair to last.
The chair’s PU casters roll smoothly on wood floors, as well as on carpet.
And, just to further sweeten the deal, HESSEN offers a generous 3-year limited warranty and 90-day refund period.
The only notable drawback of the HESSEN mid-back office chair is that the seat is a little short, which can pose a problem for taller people. Aside from that, this office chair is a great product for a fair price.
Pros and cons
Fully adjustable
Mesh fabric seat resistant to wear, heat, and exposure
Sturdy and well-built
3-year limited warranty and 90-day refund period
Backrest is a little short

HESSEN Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair

CHECK PRICE
For those of us over 6’ tall, it can be a chore to find an office chair that feels right. Oftentimes, the back is too short, and the seat and armrests are too low to the ground. And if you weigh over 200 lbs, you risk breaking your chair if it’s flimsy.
WIth this high-back leather office chair, TOPSKY is looking to cater to the taller/heavier folks out there. It’s obvious from the moment you set your eyes on this chair. Its 28.3’’ tall back is clearly meant for people 6’ and over.
That’s a shame, because aside from that, this chair is excellent. Its back and seat are adorned with 2’’ thick wave-shaped pads for unrivaled comfort. The upholstery is PU leather, and while we generally prefer mesh to leather, it’s comfy enough for us to look past it.
The seat, back, and tilt tension are all adjustable.
Aside from being tailored to the needs of taller people, this chair is robust enough to seat 400 lbs of weight, which is, frankly, more than anyone will ever need. Still, there’s no harm in it being sturdier than it needs to be.
If you’re a person of the taller or heavier set, then TOPSKY’s high-back office chair may be your dream chair.
Pros and cons
Comfortable to sit in
Stylish leather upholstery
Adjustable
Very sturdy and reliable
Not ideal for people under 6′ tall
5. Best for Big and Tall
Space Seating Big and Tall Managers Chair
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
The priciest chair on our list, this manager’s chair from Space Seating does a lot to justify its price tag. However, it falls just a teensy bit short at the end of the day.
But first, let’s talk about its characteristics, features, and pros.
Fully extended, the seat is roughly 22’’ from the floor. Right from the get-go, it’s obvious this chair isn’t meant for the short-legged among us. Like the TOPSKY High-Back Office Chair, it was clearly designed to cater to taller and heavier folks. If you fit that description, then this chair brings a lot to the table.
The seat, armrests, and back can all be adjusted, with a fold-in/out feature for the armrests.
This chair is amazingly sturdy, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise given that it’s tailored to taller/heavier people. On its own, it can seat as much as 400 lbs of weight. Thankfully, the legs, base, and casters are all robust. The casters are also carpet-friendly.
The only drawback of this chair is that its tall back isn’t ideal for people under 6’. However, if you are over 6’ tall or on the heavier side, this chair will fit you perfectly.
Pros and cons
Fully adjustable
Carpet-friendly casters
Robust legs, base, and casters can handle up to 400 lbs of weight
Heat and moisture resistant mesh fabric
Not comfortable for smaller folks
What to Look for in an Office Chair
Not only are back problems painful, but they can also be a serious drain on your income. In fact, some of us have pre-existing conditions that make sitting for long periods of time very uncomfortable, or even downright painful. Because of that, a high-end, ergonomic office chair is one of those purchases that justifies itself.
However, not all office chairs are truly ergonomic. With how expensive they can be, it’s important to ensure that you’re spending your hard-earned money wisely. So, what is it that makes a chair ergonomic, what materials should a chair be made out of and what else should you consider?
To help you out, we wrote this guide on what you need to look for when shopping for a new office chair.
What Makes a Chair Ergonomic?
It may not seem like it, but whenever we sit, we actually place our backs under quite a lot of stress, particularly the lumbar area (lower back). Without proper lumbar support, your back muscles will tire after a while. Usually, that leads to a sore back, but at worst, it can cause chronic back problems.
An ergonomic chair offers proper lumbar support, which takes the stress off of your lower back, shoulders, arms, and legs. They also often have sloped backrests, meant to encourage good posture by keeping your spine in its natural shape.
Ergonomic chairs usually have an adjustable seat and armrests. A few also allow you to adjust the tilt angle and tension. That’s all so you can tailor a chair to fit your body size and height, as well as the size of your desk and other factors.
Ergonomic chairs also often have seats and backs with extra-padded cushions. That’s to prevent chafing and sore spots. A sloped seat, whose job it is to take the pressure off of the back of your knees, is another common feature.
Materials
Office and computer chairs are, in most cases, made of either synthetic, leather, or mesh fabric. Budget chairs tend to use synthetic, while the more expensive chairs may use leather or mesh.
As for which is the best out of those three, there are trade-offs to each. Leather is more stylish and elegant looking, while mesh is more comfortable because of the improved airflow, which keeps you cool and resists moisture. Synthetic is the least expensive of the three since it costs less to produce.
Conclusion
Considering most jobs these days require people to be sitting, investing in a better office chair will make those long work days much less painful. There are only a few things to consider, and one of the most important is that the chair is ergonomic. Then you need to factor in weight ratings as well as material. Something breathable like a mesh material is popular because it’s cost effective.
All of the options here are budget friendly, ergonomic, and feature durable materials.

How to Clean a Microfiber Recliner
See more on Reclinercize:
If you have purchased yourself a microfiber recliner, then you have most probably been given the sales speech about how stain-proof the fabric is. You’ve been perhaps led to believe that that fabric on your recliner can and will endure any adversity thrown at it.
Microfiber fabrics look like suede or leather and are cute, soft and cuddly, and they repel water as well as a duck. They do not show that dog slobber as well as most other fabrics do and are pretty easy to maintain. Their fibers are 100 times smaller than your hair, which is the factor that lends them that light weight and soft touch feel to the skin. And in case you have a case of the allergies, then this is the perfect fabric for you, as it does not create lint or store dust. These properties make them ideal for furniture, but if you are not keen on letting your visitors view traces of dog slobber or last week’s sippy cup contents every time they get to sit on your recliner, then we have an easy peasy method to give it back that new recliner shine.
Assess Your Recliner’s Care Instructions
Most recliners have a care tag sewn on the bottom or below a cushion, or a pamphlet that was given to you with your purchase. In that tag or pamphlet is a code detailing the washing instructions that come with the particular type of microfiber fabric on your recliner. The code is quite basic; it will either be the letters S, W or SW or X.
S – you should use a solvent based cleaning agent to maintain the recliner’s fabric W – that you can use a water based cleaner SW – use either water or a solvent based solution to clean the recliner up X – vacuum only
Cleaning code W microfiber recliner
Cleaning items required
Water-based shampoo, foam upholstery or clear dish soap
Sponge
Stiff bristle brush
How-to
Vacuum your seat
Pour and stir in a little of the shampoo, foam upholstery cleaner or clear dishwashing fluid into a small pail of water.
Dip your sponge, squeeze it out, and begin working on the stain from the outside first so as not to spread the stain.
Redip, re-squeeze and repeat procedure until the dirt stains are gone.
Rinse the area with clean water by using a clean sponge to rub off as much residual soap as possible.
Once dry, use the brush to fluff the fabric back up.
Quick Tips
Always try the cleaning agent on a small portion of the furniture to check for any reaction or discoloration first.
Always blot out spills or stains immediately. It makes clean-up that much easier.
Cleaning Code S Microfiber Recliner
Cleaning items required
Waterless dry cleaning solvent or rubbing alcohol
Spray bottle
White cloth or sponge
Stiff bristle brush
How-to
Vacuum your recliner to get rid of easy to remove dirt particles.
Pour your solvent into a spray bottle and spray one section of your recliner a time.
Scrub vigorously with the cloth or sponge, and you’ll soon see oil, grime, and dirt come off them.
Repeat the process until your recliner is sparkling.
Once dry, re-fluff the fibers back with the brush
Cleaning code W-S microfiber recliner
Cleaning items required
Waterless dry cleaning solvent or rubbing alcohol
Or
Water-based shampoo, foam upholstery cleaner, or clear dish soap
Spray bottle
White cloth or sponge
Stiff bristle brush
Quick Tips
For this type of recliner fabric, use either a water-based cleaning solution or a solvent based cleaning agent depending on the kind of stain you are dealing with.
For stains like baby food, wine, mustard, dog drool or fur, ketchup, and mustard, use water and soap.
For more robust stains like pen markings, grease or oil or crayons, use a solvent based cleaning agent.
How-to
Vacuum your recliner.
Using the soap solution and water, blot out excess compounds.
Spray the area a section at a time and use a cloth or sponge, to rub off stains.
Rinse with clean water and a sponge to remove excess soap or solvent cleaner.
Let it dry then fluff the fibers with a brush or vacuum to buff it up and to maintain the recliner’s appearance.
Cleaning Code X Microfiber Recliner
These microfiber recliners need more gentle use as you cannot clean them at home. Instituting sippy cup or no food rule on them would assist greatly in your efforts to keep them shiny.
Just brush or vacuum them regularly to keep them in tip-top shape.

Are Recliners Bad for Your Health?
See more on Reclinercize:
Studies show that the world’s most significant form of disability today is lower back pain and its estimated that over 80% of us will encounter back pain at one point in our lives. Research shows that when sitting up straight and your spine poised at a 90-degree angle, is one of the most damaging postures to your back’s health. A reclined sitting angle of between 110 and 130 degrees is best for your back’s health, and this is good enough license to tell your middle school teachers that in this matter, they were grossly wrong.
Pros of Recliners
Stress relief
There’s nothing quite like taking a nap in your recliner at the end of a terrible day, and this relaxed feeling has scientific backing as far as sound health is concerned. It turns out that that sitting back with your legs slightly raised makes it easier for relaxation and therefore stress relief.
Since stress is viewed as a primary cause of back pain, this is a no-brainer. Reclining helps mitigate back pain arising from a stressful and busy life. The power of the recliner not only stops at the easing of back pain but all other issues that are exacerbated by stress including asthma and heart disease amongst a host of other debilitating conditions. Relaxation also improves your mood and gives you a sunny perspective on life.
Improves Circulation
If numbness plagues you in your extremities, sometimes accompanied by muscle cramps, tingling, and throbbing pain in your limbs, then you are a possible candidate for poor circulation. While this is not a condition that occurs in isolation, its a symptom of a more significant body issue, including diabetes, heart conditions, arterial problems or obesity.
This pain and discomfort of swollen joints and feet can be remedied by putting your feet up as is the case with recliner seats. The elevated position assists the body, to recirculate all pooled fluids in your extremities since they are less subject to the law of gravity. The reclined position also supports in opening up your lungs and airways which allows you to breathe deeply, and infuse your body with more oxygen-rich blood.
Relieves Achy Joints and Pain
Recliners are particularly useful for those who suffer from the discomfort of arthritis and achy joints as well moms to be. The all-engulfing pain from the spinal area has a direct impact on your overall wellness, and mobility. Physicians recommend the reclined position for its ability to eliminate tension from a pain-ridden area, by relaxing the surrounding muscles. They state that the reclined position can alleviate muscle strain by up to 77%, pregnancy-related back pain by 60% and other degenerative changes by up to 61%. Studies have also proven that reclining on a seat helps patients recuperating in the postoperative stage reach the ‘home-ready’ stage sooner than when on a traditional hospital bed.
If your back aches from a day spent hunching forwards at work, here’s good news for you. Reclining on that seat will allow your body to correctly align your spine as the seat naturally helps you achieve a properly seated position. So take a compressive load off today!
Cons of Recliners
Bad for Bad Knees
Some recliner styles may aggravate weak and achy knees, especially when kicking down as you try to rise from the seat. Since the center of gravity is near the middle of the chair, your knees require some effort and force to get the seat in a normal sitting position.
Bad for Extended Sleeping
If you find it easier to prolong your sleeping time on your recliner rather than waking up and going to bed, then you are a candidate for knee and hip contractures. This is a condition whereby your muscles tighten over your joints, limiting your mobility and posture. This could, in turn, cause bad falls and subsequent injuries.
Some Designs are Bad for the Lower Back
If your recliner has little in the way of lower back support, you could be in for a world of back pain. If your seat forms a hollow between your lower back and the seat’s curvature, ensure that you place a puffy pillow or a rolled towel to offset this vacuum as it could cause you untold misery.
Conclusion
It is possible to have too much of a good thing as is the case with your recliner. With that said, do it in moderation and with proper lifestyle choices, and your furniture will be a gem.

5 Simple Exercises You Can Do on Your Recliner
See more on Reclinercize:
Recliners are both comforting and non-judgmental, and that is one lethal mix for fitness goals. In an era where sitting has become the new smoking, this lifestyle of laziness is driving physicians up against the wall over the escalating level of lifestyle diseases. They insist that some physical exercise can significantly increase your chances of living healthy.
What if we told you that it is possible to give your body that much needed work out straight from the comfort of your recliner.
Exercises That Can Be Done on a Recliner
Quad training
Prolonged sitting can result in a build-up of blood clots in your veins if you are in a confined space. While this is cautionary advice for long distance travel, this situation is also a perfect description of a day spent in your beloved recliner. Your clot may dissolve on its own or unfortunately turn to a pulmonary embolism which can be fatal.
To keep your lower limbs fit, you can focus on the quadriceps or your thigh’s larger muscles.
The following can be done seated or lying down. Put your legs together and tilt your toes upwards. As you do this, flex your legs and stretch them to apply pressure on the quads.
Hold for about 10-20 seconds, then relax the muscles. Repeat at least five sets, pushing your quads to contract and relax till you tire them out. Next time you want to get out of your lift recliner, force yourself to stand.
Recliner Core Builders
If you are feeling a bit guilty about the amount of vein clogging foods you have downed and ready to make a quick turnaround, you can start with this core exercise that helps to burn off that bulge on your belly.
With your footrest up and your recliner tilted back, lift your upper body till you feel some pressure in your abdominal area. Hold your body in that position for at least two seconds then go back down gently on the seat.
Lift yourself about 30 times per set and repeat this for three more sets. It can be good to do this about 20 to 30 times, which will be one set, and then proceeding to two or three more sets.
Reclining Curl
Sit up and forward on your recliner, and ensure that your back is away from the end of the chair. As you sit tall with your spine rigid, hold your abs and inhale and lean your pectorals and torso backward. Then lean back as far as is comfortable and stop just about where your head almost makes contact with the backrest.
In a recliner, you can push the backrest further back. Leaning further back makes the exercise more strenuous. Hold this position briefly then breathe and return to the original starting position. Do a total of 3 sets with 3 minutes of the stretched back motion per set.
Recliner arm exercises
As you work your quads, it would be a sin to leave out your biceps. Arm exercises will help your arms have increased strength without the necessity of weights.
Sit with your feet on the ground and your back straight up. Place your arms on the armrests and mimic the motion of standing up to apply pressure on the muscles. To make it a little bit tougher, lift your body off the recliner slightly, but make sure you keep your butt in contact with the seat at all times. Hold for at least ten seconds, then relax. Repeat at least five sets per day.
Recliner push-ups
This exercise will force you to get most of your body off your recliner. How about you drop and give yourself twenty of these to strengthen your core, arms, shoulders, and chest.
Start by getting in the usual push up position, with the variance being that your legs should be placed on the recliner seat. Do a push up till your nose (gently) hits the ground, then push yourself back up to the starting position. Since your position tilts your body, this makes the push up a bit easier to manage but just as rewarding. Try to manage at least three to five sets.

How to Reupholster a Recliner
See more on Reclinercize:
Old recliner are like keepers of memories and history. Some are family heirlooms that you get to inherit from grandparents Some are treasures collected from your neighborhood dumpster. While their outer appearance is lackluster, you just know you can breathe some cozy life again into it. Well, if you are looking to put the snuggle back into that threadbare recliner, here is a simple guide on how to do it, without breaking the bank.
A Video Demonstration
Before we break down a written description, we suggest referencing the video below from Sailrite. Keep in mind that this is not an easy process.
youtube
Required Tools
To start you off you will need a few tools to help you out. They will make the unstitching and restitching of the upholstery more manageable.
Seam ripper
Heavy-duty scissors
Reupholstering staple gun with staples (electric if you are going solo)
tack remover
hot glue gun
extra glue sticks
thread/needle
covered button kit
upholstery needles
Straight pins
Measuring tape
Wrench (adjustable)
screwdriver
wax coated thread
Don’t forget to have some patience as well. Like we said, this isn’t an easy process by any means.
Some Quick Tips
Take a lot of pictures to help you put the chair back together.
If you are using the fabric from your seat as cutting patterns ensure that you mark them for easy identification when putting the seat back together again.
Recliners require about 8-12 yards of upholstery fabric. If you are going for patterns, measure the repeat pattern’s size as well.
When cutting the patterns out remember to add a few inches for tucking and seaming
Use batting over replacement foam to add stability to your upholstery fabric.
Extremely linear patterns like plaids or stripes may be harder to align as the recliner pieces shift, rendering your project sloppy. Large prints are easier though as they need little alignment.
Upholstery Guide
1. Take the main pieces of the recliner off of it.
Detach the back from its base, while the recliner is an upright position. Then with its bottom facing up, use your screwdriver to unscrew off the seat cushion. With the seat once more in a vertical position, unbolt the armrests and move on to the footrest and voila the seat has been taken apart, ladies and gentlemen! A word of caution though, you will probably find some lost old and musty items in the there in the process.
2. Take out the old fabric pieces if you have need of them. They are excellent patterns for cutting out the new fabric. Removing the old material also ensures a crisp, smooth finish when the upholstery is done. No offensive fold lines or creases.
3. Cut out your new pieces of fabric, ensuring that there’s enough fabric left out for stitching and tucking.
4. Iron out the cut-out fabrics before starting on the stitching, to give you a more relaxed time while stitching and more so for the final look.
5. Use straight pins to keep the material in place before commencing on the stitch work, and fold the fabric to outline edges evenly.
6. Staple the fabric, beginning from the middle of the frame, ensuring that your material is as taut as possible. Adjustable wrenches may come in handy at this point to ensure that the fabric is held in a tight grip. Take special care at the corners to prevent puckering of the fabric.
7. Recliners have cardboard pieces on them, and that means a staple gun will not do. So use your hot glue gun to re-cover the cardboard with your fabric pieces. Basically if you cant staple the area, hot glue gun it.
8. Using your covered button kit package and the directions on its back, wrap your chosen buttons. The kit will make the whole process much more manageable.
9. A long upholstery needle, we are talking 8-inch size, and some wax coated button thread should make the tufting and resewing of the buttons back to the seat easy peasy work. The benefit of wax-coated cotton is that even with the pulling and tagging it will stay strong and not break.
10. Reverse engineer the seat’s takedown and put the seat back together again.
Conclusion
It is no walk in the park, but the satisfaction of saving your old recliner will go unmatched for in comparison to the moments spent in that beloved chair to come.

The 4 Recliner Styles You Should Consider
See more on Reclinercize:
There is nothing better than coming home and plopping yourself down on your favorite recliner after a long day. Discovering exactly what recliner suits you is a difficult task. With so many brands and types of recliners on the market, your head can go into a tailspin long before you actually get one you really want.
That being said, it’s best to start with the basics. Here is a list of the most popular options on the market, and how they function.
Types of Recliners
1. Flex-Back or Push-Back Recliners
The Flex-Back is the most modern selection on this list. All you have to do is literally push back on your chair in order to recline it. Only the back support is in motion during this reclining action. Thanks to this, it usually takes up less space than other options like the rocker or two-position.
Another notable feature is that it has no footrest built in. However, if you require one, there are poufs available that will accommodate your needs. Usually, they fall under the same price range as two-position chairs.
2. Two-Position Recliner
As the name suggests, there are only two options settings available. These are either upright or fully reclined. In order to recline, you use a lever typically located just below the armrest. They are also among the most inexpensive choices. However, finding a good two-position can be challenging. The chair itself takes up a lot of space. In addition, the footrest can easily knock things over if you aren’t careful.
These styles come in a variety of sizes, materials, and level of recline. For instance, an oversized recliner is just a large two-position. They come in materials ranging from leather to microfiber. The level of recline can range from 90-120 degrees to completely flat at 180 degrees. Truth be told, most recliners are two-position.
3. Rocker Recliner
The Rocker recliner, aka the wall hugger recliner, is extremely popular. Since this model does not recline completely like the two-position, it doesn’t require as much space. In addition, you get a variety of angles at which to recline. Just as the name implies, this recliner can “rock” back and forth.
The downside though, is they do cost slightly more than the flex-back or two-position. Even so, it is still among the more affordable recliners.
4. Riser Recliner
The riser recliner is powered by motors which both recline and lift. It was designed specifically for the disabled and elderly, who often have medical problems. They recline and lift up, allowing for relaxation and being able to rise with minimal difficulty. Therefore, they are naturally the most expensive and versatile.
They need to be located near a socket, as they must be plugged in. The risk of shock is greatly reduced by a transformer whose main purpose is to decrease the voltage input. Made with either a single or double motor. Riser recliners typically have control pads or remotes.
The difference between single and double motor chairs comes in price and versatility. Single motors are cheaper to produce, hence cheaper to buy. In addition, they also have simpler controls. This often includes only two buttons on the control pads, for the rise and recline.
Double motor recliners, on the other hand, are more flexible and provide more comfort. The controls typically have four buttons and manipulate each motor independently.
Conclusion
Although the recliner has come to be synonymous with comfort and dads, times are changing. There is more variety suited to different types of people, in different styles with different levels of flexibility. They can even help rehabilitate injured people and ease the pain for the elderly and disabled.
Ultimately, the best option is one that serves your individual needs. Be sure to consider who will use it most and how much comfort they need. With any luck, you are now able to pick out a recliner for your needs.

The material is glued, stapled and blocked at the corners, and the fabric is pre-approved for wearability against AHFA standards.
Now, let’s discuss the cost of this top-notch recliner. Since it comes with such great features, you’re probably a bit worried about the price. Don’t be. The Larkinhurst recliner is surprisingly budget-friendly.

What stands out immediately about the Bonzy leather recliner is its clean and casual style. Furthermore, this recliner compliments contemporary, rustic and traditional decor, and matches well with all modern living rooms. So, if you want to add value to the appearance of your home, the Bonzy leather recliner is perfect for doing just that.
This recliner can support up to 300 lbs. The steel construction and wooden frame are what make it such a durable recliner. However, we think it’s important to mention that even though it can carry a decent amount of weight, the chair may be a bit too small for you if you are on the larger side.
The backrest reclines at 145 degrees and 110 degrees, which means that (apart from sitting on it) you can comfortably sleep in it. The side latch on the chair allows you to simultaneously lift the footrest and recline the chair.
You won’t have to worry about the assembly time since it’s quite easy to assemble. This recliner is also quite affordable. All in all, the Bonzy leather recliner is perfect for those of you who want a functional, sturdy chair, at a great price.

As for the design, we love the curved shape and the assembly was easy thanks to the provided instructions. The tall back support is great for taller folks too.
The sturdy steel fram make this recliner suitable for long-term use. The bottom line is that the RevoluXion faux leather recliner is a great long-term investment.

4. Best with Massager
Waterjoy Leather Massage Recliner Chair
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
If you want a quality massage chair, this chair is perfect for you. The vibrations and heating functions are great for your circulation. The recliner has eight vibrating massage modes to choose from, and you can even adjust the intensity of each one.
Also, you have the option to choose what area on your body you want to massage. For example, you can massage your lumbar region, back or legs individually, but you can also massage them all at the same time.
This recliner’s massage function works wonders on your back and lower body, helping you reduce stress. Just in case you were wondering, this recliner is also equipped with an automatic switch-off function that turns off the massager after 25 minutes.
The frame is reinforced with heavy-duty iron, which makes this a durable recliner. The GentleShower leather recliner comes with a detailed instruction manual and is really easy to assemble.
Now, you would think that such a highly functional leather recliner would cost quite a bit, wouldn’t you? Well, it’s actually surprisingly affordable compared to other massage recliners.
Just be mindful of the size of the recliner. Like with the Bonzy leather recliner, this one may be a bit too narrow if you are larger. On the other hand, because it isn’t bulky, this recliner is perfect for smaller rooms, since it doesn’t take up too much space.
All in all, if you’re looking for a recliner that will give you a great massage while you relax, then this is the best one on the market!
Pros and cons

What to Look for in a Leather Recliner
If you’d like to expand your horizons, we can give you some tips on what to look for during your search for a recliner. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to furniture. Look for features and options that you prefer.
What Style of Recliner Do You want?
First of all, you need to know what type of recliner you want. If you want a stylish recliner that doesn’t take up a lot of space, you should look for a push-back recliner. Not only do they look amazing, but they also take up much less space than other recliners.
However, the downside to push-back recliners is that they’re usually more expensive than other recliners. Also, their seats are quite shallow. On the other hand, a rocker recliner is affordable.
On the other end of the spectrum are oversized recliners, often these have rocking features.
Consider Maintenance
If you have small children, then this part will definitely concern you the most. It’s a well-known fact that children love eating snacks while watching TV. This makes cleaning your recliner a daily chore. For that reason, you need to check to see how you can clean the chair without causing any damage to the material. If the material requires special cleaning products, you may want to consider some other recliner options.
Consider the Size
Even though most recliners can carry up to 300 lbs, you need to take into account that not everyone is shaped the same. Some recliners turn out to be too narrow for some people, depending on how large the person is. Make sure to look for a chair that you can sit in comfortably, without having to squeeze into it.
Also, it’s extremely important to measure the area where you want to put your recliner. If you live in a smaller home, then you shouldn’t look for a recliner that will end up occupying half of your living space.
Conclusion
Finding a leather recliner that’s both stylish and affordable doesn’t necessarily need to be a difficult task. If you know what you’re looking for, you’ll be able to pick a great one in no time!
For starters, the Larkinhurst rocker recliner is an affordable choice. With its beautiful earth tone and quality upholstery, it really is a top-notch chair. However, you can’t go wrong with any of the others on the list.
The best thing to do is to figure out what type of recliner you’re looking for and go from there. Use our guide as a reference when you go shopping. You can always make a list of the key features you’re looking for as well.
All in all, we hope we’ve made your decision at least a little bit easier.

Most of us want to be completely relaxed while resting. Feeling comfortable is a key component to promoting more restful sleep. However, not everyone gets that kind of comfort in their bed. Whether the shape of the bed itself doesn’t suit you or because of a pre-existing medical condition, lying horizontally in a bed can lead to feeling uncomfortable and, consequently, you will lose sleep.
We performed thorough research on recliners as an alternative to traditional beds. We were quite surprised by the results, as there were cases in which using a recliner instead of the bed turned out to be way more beneficial!
Knowing that everyone likes to have options and choices, we decided that a small list of different styles of sleep ready chairs would help you reach your decision. So, whatever your reason for buying a recliner might be, you are on the right track!

2. Best Value
Catnapper Teddy Bear Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
The Catnapper Teddy Bear Chaise Recliner is the second choice on our list of best recliners for sleeping, and you’ll find out why soon enough.
This particular recliner is designed for ultimate comfort, as it has a roomy sitting area with plush armrests and a pillow-soft chaise pad seat. That is exactly what you need after a long, busy day in order to get some rest.
One thing that you need to be careful about is the cleaning method. You should only use water-based shampoos or foam upholstery cleaners. Also, be careful not to overwet the surface or saturate it with liquid. Finally, you shouldn’t remove and wash the cushion covers.
The large sitting area and a smooth, quiet reclining mechanism is something you absolutely need to have for that good-quality rest. With the Catnapper Teddy Bear, that’s exactly what you’ll get!
Pros and cons
A popular brand in the recliner space
Comes as a swivel or wall hugger
Padded foam back and plush arms
One user noted the lack of padding in the lower back area
3. Best with a Lift
Ashley Furniture Yandel Power Lift Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
The third product on our list is the Yandel Power Lift Recliner from Signature Design by Ashley. This recliner is an example of how style and functionality merge together. With the Yandel Power Lift Recliner, you are just one touch of a button away from the ultimate lounging experience. This recliner is able to fully recline as well as lift the user out of the chair.
With its high back and thick cushions, this recliner is designed to offer maximum support and comfort to its owner. Along with the comfort, it will give your home a touch of smoothness with its faux-leather upholstery. The interesting thing is that the brown upholstery saddle looks like leather when it’s actually a thick poly-fiber with a touch of coziness. The chair is noted as being oversized with pillow top armrests and bustle backs for additional lumbar support.
If you’re older or suffer from medical conditions, this chair is perfect for you. At the touch of a button, you can lift yourself out of the chair and the chair fully reclines allowing for that perfect sleep position.
Pros and cons
A well-made, traditional style recliner.
The leather is super easy to keep clean too.
Great value overall.
While the leather is easy to clean, it’s lacking in comfortability.
4. Best on a Budget
Signature Design by Ashley Ludden Rocker Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
Number four on our list comes from the same manufacturer as the previously mentioned recliner. Signature Design by Ashley brings the Ludden Rocker Recliner to you for total comfort with style. This recliner goes by the name “easy chair” as it’s incredibly easy on both your body and your budget. The Ludden Rocker Recliner will delight your senses with ultra-plush upholstery in a delicately textured twill.
All in all, if you’re looking for that feeling of floating on a cloud, the Ludden Rocker Recliner is as close as it can get.
Pros and cons
Lift function included
Lays completely flat
Faux leather looks like real leather
Could use more padding in the lower back. Nothing a pillow can’t fix.
5. Best for Small Spaces
Franklin Serenity Lay Flat Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
The last recliner on our list is Franklin’s Serenity Recliner, which is somewhat smaller than the rest of the recliners on our list. It’s neither big nor bulky, which makes it perfect for smaller spaces. Because of that, some like to call it “the ladies’ chair”, as it looks like it was tailor-made for a woman.
The manufacturer really paid attention to the overall styling and details of this recliner. Therefore, it both looks and feels great. Also, when it comes to the upholstery, this recliner might just have the softest fabrics on the market!
This recliner can be placed inches from the wall and still manually recline. In addition, it reclines completely flat, allowing you to have a more comfortable sleeping position. The quality of the Serenity Recliner is absolutely great. It’s very comfortable, and the color of it looks even better in person than online. All in all, this recliner is a very well-constructed piece of furniture.
Pros and cons
Lays completely flat
True budget option
Perfect for small spaces
Rather small
Factors to Consider is Sleeping Chairs
If you’re looking for a recliner that is going to be suitable for you to sleep in, you can’t just buy the first one that looks good. There are certain factors that you should take into consideration when making that final choice.
That choice may depend on numerous things, such as the space that you have available, medical conditions you might be suffering from, and additional functions that you need your chair to have.
For instance, for those who suffer from insomnia, we’d recommend getting a rocker recliner that will allow them to have some long-awaited sleep thanks to the soothing rocking motion. Also, many pregnant women experience discomfort and back pain once they get further along in the pregnancy. According to some surveys, they sleep easier in a supportive recliner than in their own beds, making recliners popular with pregnant women.
Therefore, in order to pinpoint the best recliner for your needs, you’ll need to be thorough and focused on details.
Main Factors to Keep in Mind
You can start by examining the durability of the recliner’s frame. It goes without saying that you want to buy a recliner that will serve you well in the long run. Therefore, you need the one that has a strong frame made of either strong steel or durable hardwood. Manufacturers will provide a weight rating for their chairs. This can usually give a decent idea of the strength of the frame.
Be careful with the extra features and functions. More specifically, you’ll need to find answers to the following questions about the chair:
Does it recline far enough?
Most people prefer to be completely horizontal when they sleep. Nearly all the options above will fully recline. If you sleep better at around 135 degrees, pick a chair that does so.
Does the footrest elevate high enough?
If you suffer from medical conditions where you need to elevate your feet, check if this is possible. You may also need a chair that has a footrest that is independent of the recline function.
How many positions does it offer?
Many recliners will only recline in a set number of positions. Most modern chairs allow for an unlimited number of angles.
What are the exact dimensions of the chair?
Keep in mind the area you plan to put your recliner and the overall dimensions of the chair. Most manufacturers will provide the fully reclined dimensions as well as the wall clearance needed.
Is assembly required?
Most recliners come partially assembled. In some cases, they come in two pieces, the base, and the backing. The backing simply snaps into the base and you’re ready to go.
How to maintain the material and keep it clean?
Consider the upholstery that you are buying. If you live in a home with lots of animals, then faux leather may not be the best option. If you have kids, a microfiber or fabric might not be the best option in case of spills.
All of the questions listed above are extremely important to consider in order to make a choice you won’t regret. This kind of purchase is potentially a big investment on your part, so you need to thoroughly examine every single recliner that you might be considering.
Conclusion
As you can see from this article, there are numerous features and factors that you need to take into consideration when shopping for a recliner that you can sleep in. However, if you keep in mind all the key points we’ve mentioned, you’re all set.
Our favorite recliner is the Reliance Full Sleeper Lift Chair, and if you can’t make up your mind, we can help you by saying that this is a great choice.
Getting enough sleep helps you stay healthy and alert. There’s no doubt that after reading this article, you’ll be on your way to relaxation. Hopefully, you’ll have a recliner that you can get a great night’s sleep in.

1. Best Overall
Teyana Black Leather Recliner Club Chair
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
The Teyana recliner is a narrow style chair that would work well in most recreational vehicles. Upholstered in faux leather. It is also offered in a range of colors including red, white and black, plus it can recline up to 45 degrees.
The PU leather is easily wiped clean, and we would always suggest using a leather protectant too; helping to keep the fabric soft and supple.
There’s definitely a feeling of quality with the Teyana recliner. The recline and leg rest adjustment are silky smooth, and the faux leather is quite nice. The base cushion support is excellent too, with a reasonable amount of sink, yet supporting enough while seated.
Pros and cons
D-ring recline mechanism
Durable upholstery
Available in three colors
Solid price
Minimal recline
2. Best Value
RecPro Charles RV Swivel Glider Chair
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
A chair that looks like it came from a rock stars tour bus! The RecPro once again manages to pack in a lot of comfort into a small space.
It benefits from a modular design and requires a modest 12-inches of clearance to recline fully. For those who don’t know, RecPro are a popular brand with the RV community; you won’t have to look far for rave reviews from seasoned travelers.
The faux leather is easy to clean and the base cushion and back are padded in high-density foam.
The recliner comes in five color options. It’s a beautiful fabric and does look like leather, even if it’s not. The base is well made and has a feeling of solidity.
When you received the recliner, it does require a small bit of assembly. That’s not a huge problem though, RecPro notes that it comes in one box and takes less than 5 minutes to set up.
The recline function is nice and smooth, while the swivel action is nice too.
Pros and cons
Easy to clean
Easy assembly
Great padding
Somewhat pricey
3. Best in Upholstery
Thomas Payne Majestic RV Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
If the RecPro looks like it belong on a deluxe tour bus, then the Thomas Payne recliner looks like it belongs in a First-Class cabin. It’s a supremely comfortable recliner, with two base cushions and pocket springs giving that “sink in feeling.”
Thomas Payne is a manufacturer who’ve been installing seats into brand new RV’s for many years. They also sell some of their seats to be installed on luxury yachts too. The attention to detail in all their products is second to none.
You’ll need to provide 24 inches clearance at the bottom for the recline function to work properly. Ensure you measure before purchase as 2 feet is quite a bit of space when working with a small space.
The Thomas Payne recliner is exceptionally comfortable, and even though it has a little sink-in ability, it does manage to support properly. Sheathed in a rather fetching deep brown color, we can see it working in modern RV builds and more traditional campers too.
The recline function is good, and every lever and mechanism has a satisfying movement to it. There’s a high degree to be found in the Thomas Payne recliner, so if you’re basing your building on sheer quality, you can’t go wrong with this model.
Another plus point for this recliner is the fact it comes 99% assembled. Of course, you’ll need to use tools to fit the chair into your build, yet there are no tools necessary to get the chair operational.
Pros and cons
Best upholstery on this list
High-density cushion
Low maintenance
Easy installation
Expensive
4. Best Wall Hugger
RecPro Charles Collection Wall Hugger
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
The RecPro Charles is similar in construction to the earlier Charles model featured; this time, however, it’s sheathed in a deep fawn brown color leather. To us, it looks a bit more classic than the Charles Swivel model.
The earlier Charles model featured in our guide and this model are extremely similar, featuring the same style of construction and base material. Both are incredibly comfortable places to sit, and the base cushion allows you to sink in, get positioned and supported with ease.
Like the Charles Swivel, the same modular construction is used, allowing the recliner to be fitted into far tighter space than other chairs.
The material used is slightly different than the PL leather featured before. This time around the leather does look and feel like the real thing, in fact, we’re wondering if it’s PL leather at all!
You’ll find this recliner extraordinarily soft and supple to the touch, and we feel it’ll get even better if you get around to treating it with a leather cleaner and conditioner occasionally.
Assembly is a snap, taking just 5 minutes and no tools to get the chair operational. In a similar way to the Thomas Payne model above, everything is well documented, and the instructions are super easy to read.
If the Charlies Swivel recliner is for a rock stars tour bus, then the Charles Brown model is far more suited to life in a traditional setup, or as a replacement for seating in an older RV. That brown has obviously been chosen as an excellent match for the typical fabric used in a 1980-90s RV.
Pros and cons
Only needs 3″ of clearance for full recline
Great for taller folks
Assembly is super easy
Doesn’t fully recline
5. Best on a Budget
Giantex Manual Wall Hugger Rv Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
A brand that’s new on the block and a chair that’s cheap at under $200 is a worry for us. We’ve heard horror stories about Chinese made RV chairs that are, at best, poorly made, and at worst downright unsafe on the road!
However, after taking a good look at the Giantex recliner, we think this model is the real deal. It’s a full recline model too, almost folding flat when pushed to its limits – this is a chair for the RV owner who likes to watch films while on the go.
It’s a supremely comfortable chair for watching films and it’s a little wider than normal coming in at 32 inches.
The recline motion is extremely solid, and belies its humble brand name and price point; however, the fabric is not real leather and seems like it might not be the most durable quality.
If you do purchase this chair, do it for the extreme comfort, and bargain on a re-upholstery job at some point in the chairs life. At a price this cheap, you can’t complain too much.
As for assembly and fitting, it does take a solid 15 – 20 minutes, as there’s a bit of light assembly to do out of the box. The tools for assembly aren’t included in the pack either, there’s nothing particularly odd you’ll need, but you’ll need to grab your toolkit to get it together.
Pros and cons
Truly unmatched price-point
Great width
Ability to fully recline
Perfect for watching movies in your RV
The faux leather might lack durability
Conclusion
All the recliners in our roundup were winners, to be honest. All of these would be great additions to any RV build; however, depending on what you want, the choices become smaller.
Traditional and 80’s – 90’s RV owners will probably want to pick up the Thomas Payne and RecPro Classic Recliners. Both models offer great quality, and the style will suit the interior you already have.
If you’re running a fresh build, and want something ultra-modern, then look at the Teyana Red, Rec Pro Charles in black, plus the Giantex for a more budget option. All three will rock a contemporary design and the Giantex is the ultimate TV watching recliner.
The only major issue we had with the Giantex, is the fact the fabric wasn’t that robust. If you plan on taking your kids traveling, we’d leave this recliner and purchase something like the Thomas Payne. The quality and durability will handle family life with ease.
If you’re rebuilding an older tour bus, or that’s the style you’re looking for, then the Rec Pro in black is exactly what you need! In its shiny black fabric, it’s the perfect recliner to fit in something like an old Detroit Diesel or similar old-school RV.
Whatever RV recliner you pick, make sure to measure, and measure twice! Most of the recliners featured here are 30 inches wide and need extra space at the back too. Do your homework and double check for top marks!

1. Best Overall
Major-Q Over-Sized Glider Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
If you’re entirely new to sofas, Major-Q is a top brand that’s been around for years. They’ve built up a solid reputation for quality, and their oversized range of recliners are solid.
As with any quality furniture item, you’ll get several years of use out of a Major-Q chair.
The Major-Q packs in quite a few features, including a tight back and seat cushion, pillow top arm and of course a full reclining mechanism. The seat is sprung with pocket coils for that “sink in” feeling as you take your seat.
The Major-Q recliner is available in a variety of colors and materials.
This recliner, in particular, is a soft corduroy fabric that molds perfectly to any body shape. The only issue we can see with this is the fact it might be prone to picking up stains. If you do purchase this recliner, you’ll probably want to pick up a cover or a throw blanket.
The Major-Q is a well-built piece of furniture, with all the reclining mechanisms operating with a certainty that points towards a long life. The recliner can’t go back to a fully prone position, yet it gets close to it.
One of the benefits of pocket springs mentioned earlier is that you get the full “sink in” feeling when taking a seat. The cushion pad is ultra-supportive when sitting down for extended periods, precisely what an oversized recliner should do.
The armrests are good too. As pillow top arms, they’re supportive of your arms and lend to that sink in feeling as well.
Pros and cons
Superb quality, as you would expect from Major-Q, and a classic design with pocket springs that you’ll love.
Corduroy is surprisingly comfortable but if it’s not your favorite consider their other fabric types.
2. Best Value
Catnapper Cuddler Recliner Chair
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
Just one look at the Catnapper chair and you can see exactly what you’re going to get. Maximum comfort and total relaxation. Pillow armrests, ultra-cushioned supports, and pocket springs – this recliner has it all.
The Catnapper recliner offers a precision cut plywood frame, high-density foam cushions plus those all-important pillow armrests and recliner motion.
The recliner is a fully manual motion, set in the traditional right-hand side lever. It works extremely well, and although not quite as smooth as the Simmons and Roundhill chairs listed, it still has a quality feel.
One of the good features of the Catnapper recliner is the number of separate cushion pads in the base.
This recliner features leather-based suede which is great for people with children. Thankfully, the fabric is easy to wipe down.
It might be worth investing in a stain repellent coating if you’re planning on picking up this chair, especially if you plan on eating and drinking on it. You could also consider a large recliner cover to prevent stains.
The Catnapper offers up that sink in feeling with ease. The padded base is exceptionally soft and you will be happy to come home to it after a days work.
Pros and cons
Well-known brand.
Comfortable materials and durable build.
Patented omega reclining system.
None.
3. Best with a Rocker
Simmons Upholstery Big Man Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
The Simmons Upholstery chair is a traditional looking piece, with a brown leather finish and an almost standard sofa look about it.
Of course, Simmons Upholstery is a well-known brand in the furniture space, and they are most known for their traditional styles and timeless quality.
The Simmons Wisconsin recliner chair takes a slightly different approach to the construction, in comparison to the Major-Q model. Instead of pocket springs, the Simmons recliner uses sinuous wire springs and high-density foam to provide the support. Unfortunately, that’s a type of construction that doesn’t usually offer much support – it’s a favorite of budget brands.
On a happier note, the Simmons recliner comes with a pocket spring overlay, which should help provide that sink in feeling every recliner should have!
The Simmons Wisconsin is also made in the USA, a major bonus if you’re looking for top quality instead of cheap knock-offs.
The Simmons recliner is made from genuine leather in a rather pleasing walnut brown color. The material is extremely easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth, although we would suggest you use a dedicated leather cleaner to keep the recliner in perfect condition.
Pros and cons
A well-made, traditional style recliner.
The leather is super easy to keep clean too.
Great value overall.
While the leather is easy to clean, it’s lacking in comfortability.
4. Best in Comfortability
Roundhill Furniture Big Boy Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
You will be spoiled with features with this recliner. It offers a dual rocker operation, solid hardwood frame and slightly softer sinuous springs to give that comfortable recliner feel.
As for the recliner mechanism, it’s a fully manual operation, with the standard lever on the right side to help you achieve the perfect position.
As a testament to the overall quality of the product, all the joints and seams are pinned and glued during manufacture, ensuring they won’t come apart during long-term use.
The Roundhill uses genuine leather that’s a snap to keep clean and wipe down. The usual caveats regarding leather recliners and using throws and covers apply.
As with most leather chairs, it might take a week or two before the leather begins to sink in. Take your time, set your position and the Roundhill should eventually take care of the rest.
Pros and cons
Well priced and nicely made.
Made of durable materials.
It’s a rocking recliner.
The material almost feels like a plastic leather.
5. Best on a Budget
Lane Furniture Oversized Recliner
Our Rating
CHECK PRICE
Here we have a lower priced recliner, yet keeping some of the features that made the Catnapper above a real winner. Well padded, multiple cushions and engineered to last.
Lane furniture was founded in Virginia and hasn’t moved far from its original base all those years ago. They have a long-standing history of quality in their furniture.
The best feature of the Lane recliner is the fact it’s made by such a long-standing company. Lane furniture is all about quality, and you should expect a recliner that will last for many years without fault.
On top of that, the Lane recliner features a manual operation, pocket springs and a set of half pillow armrests. The cushions are split into three sections too, making for a comfort level like the Catnapper recliner.
The recliner motion is as you would expect from Lane too, although the handle is located quite far down on the right side of the base. Shorter folks might benefit from a lever extension to allow for easy operation. One bonus point goes to the Lane recliner for the amazing amount of padding on the leg rest. It’s almost to the same level as the seat base, which is a rarity and makes for super comfortable legs!
Pros and cons
True budget/quality option
Stain repellent suede fabric
Cushioned leg rest
Recliner handle is a bit short
Conclusion
There are three main winners in our review, and which one you choose depends on what you’ll value most about your oversized recliner. If you’re a true comfort junky, then the Catnapper is the chair you want. The level of comfort and adjustability is good, as is the price.
If you’re looking for something a bit more classic, you won’t go too far wrong with the Simmons recliner. It’s a lovely, traditional recliner and still manages to be comfortable and stylish.
If you have your heart set on the Catnapper, but your children are threatening to spill food all over it, then the Lane Furniture recliner is your best choice. It’s not quite as comfortable as the Catnapper, yet that high-density suede is super easy to keep clean. The high cushioned leg rests will help you get over the Catnapper too!

Parts of a Recliner
See more on Reclinercize:
Recliners are either sofas or armchairs that recline when the back is lowered and the front raises. Usually, most recliners’ backrest can be tilted back allowing the footrest to automatically be lifted or manually set into place. This warrants the different parts that manufacture either kind of recliner. Knowing your recliners parts could come in quite handy in assembling and repairing your own chair. No need to get rid of your favorite chair. It’s perfectly molded for your body, no should tell you to get a good new one. Fix yours.
Delivering a relieving comfort for its owners, recliners are the best welcome home for their owners. There is a variety of them with either offering different levels of quality and construction. These ultimately affect the comfort offered by each. Recliners variation is basically based on their design that allows each chair to push back differently as it reclines. The four types are loveseat, push back, rocker, lift recliner and riser. The parts of recliners may slightly be different but each chair is fundamentally the same.Their unique features and parts allow their specialized functions some of which include reclining, rocking, swiveling, lifting and massaging.
Different Parts of a Recliner
Rocker Frame
The rocker frame is made out of wood, usually hardwood. This supports the chairs constant swinging motion and weight shifting. It is reinforced with metal bolts, nuts and steel corners that ensure maximum support. Sometimes, fiber boards are used for minor frames to enhance backrest support.
The rocker frame on a recliner is the most vital part. It determines the basic functionality of the chair, supports the seating surfaces of the chair as well as its outlook. It includes the base frame and the rocking frame (consists of backrest) which are determined by a rocker base part and a rocker cam, respectively.
Rocker Base
It is the surface upon which the chair is placed alongside the base assembly parts, the former allowing it to stand on the floor. The rocker base assembly part of the recliner supports the linkage mechanism that allows the chairs to recline and sometimes swivel. These parts include metal end rails and metal side runners. The latter are usually Z-shaped cross-sections whole the former, extend in between thereby covering the parallel ends of the side runners.
Rocker Cam
Rocker cams are often mounted on the base of the chair. Recliners posses both left rocker cams and right rocker cams that allow the rocking motion of the chair, both backward and forward on the side. The two rocker cams mechanism allows them to complimentary interlock to one another thus allowing the motion.
Footrest
Footrests are usually pivoted to the chair. An adjusting mechanism is joined to the rocker frame of the chair and the footrest part allowing the occupant to ease the reclining tension of the footrest to their liking. Footrests are vital and a malfunctioning one may strip your chair of both it’s comfort and functionality.
Linkage Mechanisms
Each recliner chair has these linkage mechanisms that allow and promote its functionality. They include a drive mechanism, a footrest mechanism, and a recliner mechanism. The recliner mechanism is attached to the base. The footrest mechanism is coupled to the recliner mechanism by an extension linkage. It allows the footrest mechanism to unlock thus permitting the occupants weight and drive mechanism to move the chair into reclining position.
The position of these linkage mechanisms may determine the placement of the recliner handle. The recliner handlers on the left side facing mechanism and right side facing mechanism are on the left and right-hand side respectively.

What is a Glider Recliner
See more on Reclinercize:
Known also as a platform rocker, a glider recliner is a type of rocking chair that moves like a swing seat. Gliders are classic pieces of furniture that became exquisite symbols of most front porch spaces at home. They are a modern version of the good old rocker, mostly found on the porch.
As opposed to the familiar rocker, gliders operate via a sliding mechanism installed in its base, making them more sophisticated. It’s swiveling and gliding features result in such a comforting motion. This allows you the most positions to relax as you read books, watch tv or rock your baby to sleep.
How do they work?
Its whole frame is made of a seat attached to its base using a double rocker four bar linkage system. The rocking chair motion results from the non-parallel suspension arms of the linkage system that cause it to swing back and forth. While the old familiar rocker would move in an arc, glider recliners tend to move like a swing seat back and forth. They are also equipped with a swiveling feature that allows you to rotate your entire chair around.
History of Glider Recliners
The proponent of the present day reclining glider was Daniel Caldemeyer. He hit the patent solely based on the fact that he used the science of kinetics he learned in the US Air Force to develop the chair. His revolutionary invention changed the Indiana furniture industry making it quite a popular chair for many homes. The numerous designs he came up with were implemented over the world and also inducted on NASA’s space projects and programs.
Over time, improvements were made to the original design to make the present day sophisticated reclining glider. Some of the individuals credited with patents for these improvements include Nelems Charles, Alexander Brown, Hugo Perlesz and Pearce Jr. Charles.
Pros
It is comfortable, stable and quiet
The gentle rocking chair motion and swiveling feature of the glider recliner allows you to relax This chair was definitely created with parents and children in mind. The repetitive rocking motion would surely save you from physically rocking your baby to sleep as you walkaround the house.
Since weight is not distributed as occupants glide, the chair is more stable and quiet. No worries about it tipping over or rocking too far behind into the wall.
Durable
Reclining gliders can serve you for years as they are meant to if one considered a number of factors. Your chair’s frame should be sturdy and it’s upholstery material be thick and top grain. It’s more advisable to buy chairs with big screams and not the small or plastic ones.
They do not leave marks on floors.
All thanks to it’s stable base, gliders will not mark your tiles or wood as familiar rocking chair was known to do.
Wider variety.
Reclining gliders are known for wider variations in terms of shapes and sizes. Larger gliders extend the chairs practibality. One could even find a love seat glider which would be great for a couple.
Cons
Amount of space occupied.
Keeping with the traditional recliner, gliders take up quite a bit of space. One would therefore need an averagely spacious room to place it in.
Remarks
Reclining gliders are a must have, especially if the space is available. It delivers comfort and style all in one sophisticated furniture piece. The rocking chair motion and swiveling feature helps its occupants relax. The variety of fabrics and materials available would suit both formal (for example, home office and study) and relaxing (nursery) spaces. Bold but calm (black leather) and bright (orange suede) would work great for either spaces respectively.

Recliner Leans to One Side
See more on Reclinercize:
A recliner is an armchair or sofa designed for comfort. Its backrest can be tilted back. Some even have footrests that extend when the back it tilted or reclined. It is for terrible a chair designed for comfort and relaxation, brings discomfort. It’s surprising that a number of people are willing to put up with the discomfort simply because they do not know how to fix the problem. A recliner could develop these problems due to old age, being too roughly handled or due to lack of regular maintenance that the owner did not know was needed.
Why does your recliner lean to one side?
The recliner may lean to one side because of a number of reasons. These may be;
The linkage mechanism may be leaning to one side
Poor engineering resulting in the chair being constructed out of frame.
A leaning frame as a result of the wooden frames loosening up over time
Uneven padding which is not even a structural issue
The chair leaning on some spots more than others due to unevenness of the floor..
Although a recliner may lean to one side because of these factors, you can have your recliner back in shape with a few basic tools and knowledge of how to tighten nuts, bolts and screws. This is the case as 90% of the time the problem is due to the recliners’ linkage mechanism.
Fixing A Recliner
A recliner may lean to one side because of unevenness in the tension spring on the right and left sides of the chair’s rocker cam. The tension may be lower on one side and stronger on the other causing one side to lean more than the other due to high tension on the other side.
To fix this, put them back in an upright position and make sure the footrest is closed. Expose the underside by tilting the entire recliner forward. A pair of thumb wheels can be found below recliners with adjustable recliner tension. Some models have wingnuts in place of thumb wheels. Their exact placement may vary but can be found beneath the seat. Each of these is located at the end of a bolt which are connected to tension springs on the other side.
Rotate the thumb wheels or wing nuts to adjust the tension. Clockwise to increase the tension and counterclockwise to decrease it. Adjust them accordingly until the tension is equal on both sides. Turn in small increments when evening out the tension. A pair of sturdy pliers may come in handy if the mechanism is too tight to turn with your fingers. Test the adjustment. If it is not comfortable as needed, repeat the process until it is adequately comfortable.
Fixing Springs and Screws
If the spring needs to be replaced, just identify the attachment point and remove the spring. Buy heavy duty springs an carefully install them. It is important to be careful when working with heavy duty springs as they have high recoil.
In some cases, the contact point between the wooden parts and screws may come loose. Use some wood fillings to fill the spaces so that the screws may fit snugly for a tight lock. Other minor problems such as those with padding only require a change in cushions and the recliner will be as good as new. For broken parts, a replacement will fix the problem. Follow the user manual to know the correct parts for replacement.
Remarks
It is cheaper to repair minor recliner problems at home rather than replacing the whole set. It is also important to perform maintenance checks on your seat to make sure it is in perfect working condition. With this in mind, you get to keep your good old chair in shape, still giving you comfort.
