View along Mahan Plaque Trail along Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt Redwoods State Park by TrailMob Via Flickr: Humboldt Redwoods State Park is located about 30 miles from Eureka in northern California. The park is home to the largest remaining contiguous old-growth redwood forest, which is named the Rockefeller Forest, after John D. Rockefeller. Rockefeller was so blown away by the beauty of the forest he donated a million dollars to ensure its safety from logging companies. The park is also home to one of the most scenic drives in all of the United States, Avenue of the Giants. The amazing road stretches 32 miles and provides a scenic alternative to travelers on California Highway 101. The park also features more than 100 miles of hiking trails and has ample camping opportunities available.
