Went back to reread your Meghan’s relaunch post. The above is bullseye for Reese Witherspoon and her bookclub / production company imo.

As you probably already know, Reese’s production company has been involved with a lot of successful / award-winning films. More than the general public realises. She also features books in her book club with the agreement that she gets first dibs on production. If a book performs well in the book club, she produces it. Both endeavours are very women-focused.

You may have already connected Meghan and Reese - sorry if I missed it! Reese’s brand of sweet Southern image with savvy business woman underneath seems like what Meghan is chomping at the bit for.

And don't forget, Meghan allegedly lovebombed Reese back in the day. There's a rumor (and I think it's been plausibly confirmed but I don't remember now) that Meghan sent Reese an invitation to the wedding and allegedly Reese chucked it saying "I don't know her, why would I go?" As the rumor goes, Reese never even responded to the invitation.

Specifically, I do think Meghan's "commissioning" of Meet Me at the Lake as a Netflix production was her trying to emulate or copy Reese. I think Meghan likes what a huge powerhouse Reese has become - from an actress playing ditzy "girl next door" roles to now this huge lifestyle brand with cookbooks, a fashion line, her own production company - and wants that for herself. I think Meghan definitely underestimated how hard it is to do all of this, especially all at once, because it's clear that after a whole year of PR on Meet Me at the Lake, Meghan has completely given up on it.
