rehahn_photography I've always been interested in the "lives" of daily objects. Certain objects, such as ancient books, take on more value as they age. Other things are passed down through generations like silent friends. This is the case of the nón lá conical hat in Vietnam. They can be seen when it is sunny or raining, on city streets, and in the fields of the countryside. Humble, yet practical, they follow along with their owners until the end of their lives.
.The handmade hats are made out of bamboo or grass reeds and woven together over the course of an afternoon. Lightweight and comfortable, they protect the user from the sun and rain.
Yet, this traditional symbol of Vietnam is slowly falling out of favor in daily life.
.For more photos about Vietnam's iconic conical hat head to the Scenes of Life in Vietnam portfolio on my website.
