The Mkata Floodplain, located in Mikumi National Park, is perhaps the most reliable place in Tanzania for sightings of the powerful eland, the world’s largest antelope. The equally impressive greater kudu and sable antelope can be spotted on the miombo-covered foothills of the mountains that rise from the park’s borders.⁣ ⁣ #mikumi #mikuminationalpark #tanzanianationalparks #safaricamp #safarilodge #safariaccommodation #savannah #antelope #eland #sableantelope #kudu #tanzania #tansania #afrika #africa #afrikareizen #afrikareisen #visittanzania #southerntanzania #remotedestinations #offthebeatentrack #safari #africansafari #safarireis #gamedrive #gameviewing #wildlife #wildlifephotography #bigfive #africawildlife https://www.instagram.com/p/CCJQcezHwE-/?igshid=zj5yv6qssmk0

Out in Caleta Maria doing some birdwatching after being woken every morning at 03:50am on the dot by South American Snipes’(Becasina) displaying calls. Scenes like this are just some of the rewards so early in the morning. At 4am it’s already daylight even though “official” sunrise is about 4:45am I had some coffee and by 5:00am was out walking till around 9-10am. . . . #caletamaria #tierradelfuegochile #timaukel #turismotimaukel #birdwatching #avistamientodeaves #trekking #reflections #remotedestinations #expeditionplanning #trekkingchile #visitchile #explorepatagonia #trekkingpatagonia #bbcnature #natgeonature (at Caleta Maria) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6oNdX3gs5h/?igshid=1t3xkn4bob9wf

It's a long and scenic drive from Tacna, AZ to reach the Tinajas Atlas Mountains. It is worth the effort to climb and see the tanks that hold water nearly all the time. What a small source of life in a very dry and isolated area. We saw signs of past life in the metates (mealing stone) and a even a coyote. . #tinajasatlasmountains #tinajasatlastanks #metate #coyote #desert #barrygoldwaterrange #permitrequired #elcaminodeldiablo #arizonadesert #desert #water #climb #overland #remotedestination (at Tinajas Altas Mountains) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZxNbSqu9ow/?utm_medium=tumblr

A few years ago I was lucky enough to travel to Tanna Island in Vanuatu on a missions trip, and looking through these photos I can still remember the taste of the village food, how damn hot it was trudging up a mountain we climbed and the craziness of the tropical storm we got caught in when trying to get back to civilisation.  We were staying in a small village about four hours into the wilderness when travelling in the back of a ute (which is the only way to get there as cars just cant handle the roads). I loved it even though I distinctly remember hating parts of it - we ate rice, yam and lap lap (so basically just carbs) every meal and didnt have access to any running water, so no showers obviously and we practically ran out of drinking water, then relying on coconuts.  It was a great eye opener, staying in a village in a third world country (and I sooooo don't mean the kind people visit when they are staying in a resort and get treated to a special ceremony and dance when they visit) and something I think that people should do, to appreciate the little things. Like being able to brush your teeth. THAT was a mission.
