“UNRWA is a horror show that is decades in the making, co-produced by the U.S. taxpayer,” Goldberg testified, during a hearing that ran about three hours and, initially, was disrupted frequently by protesters. “Terrorism support and subsidy, for UNRWA, is a feature not a bug.”
At the hearing, the Democratic witness, Mara Rudman, a University of Virginia professor and former official in the Obama and Clinton administrations, was asked about reports that as many as 15% of UNRWA employees in Gaza might be members of Hamas and other terror groups. Rudman testified that those figures likely reflect wider Gazan support for terrorism.
“Press reports have indicated that the percentages of UNRWA staff that may be affiliated in some way with Hamas are roughly similar to the percentages in the general population that are thought to be affiliated, so between 10% and 15%,” she said. “If they employ 13,000 people in the population, the single biggest employer, it would not be surprising if the percentages are roughly that of the general population.”
The other witnesses at Tuesday’s hearing, Marcus Sheff, CEO of IMPACT-se, and Hillel Neuer, executive director of U.N. Watch, testified about bias against Israel in UNRWA’s school curricula and in the wider U.N. system respectively.

U.S. users email your representatives this, and make sure to include your zip code:
I am your constituent. I am strongly in favor of defunding Israel. I want my opinion logged on every single one of these pieces of legislation. It is an atrocity that the USA is sending our taxpayer dollars, weaponry, and other support to Israel in order to aid in the genocide of the Palestinian people. It does not reflect the will of your constituents, and I demand that you correct this by voting for/against the following bills, resolutions, and legislation.
To be frank, I will be basing my vote for you in upcoming elections on this issue. I will be watching closely to see how you vote on issues regarding funding to Israel. I will not vote for you in the next election if you vote to send any money, support, or weaponry to Israel. I will be voting for you if you vote to block money, support, and weaponry to Israel.
This is the current legislation I am for, and the current legislation I am against. I would like your office to record my opinion for each bill, and I would like you to take this into consideration when you vote.
I am FOR the following, and expect you to vote for this and co-sponsor, either now or when matching legislation reaches your office.
H.Res. 786: by Rep. Cori Bush
H.Res. 388 by Rep. Rashida Tlaib
H.R. 3103 by Rep. Betty McCollum
I am against Joe Biden’s proposal to spend billions of dollars on Israel via a package for Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan, and the US border. Biden is asking for $100 BILLION for this package and it is only 1 YEAR'S worth of funding. This is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable, and I am against you voting for ANY bill that spends even $1 on Israel. I do not care what else is in the bill. If it gives money to Israel, I am against it.
I am AGAINST the following, and expect you to vote against this and not co-sponsor, either now or when matching legislation reaches your office.

I am against any legislation that allows troops to deploy to the Middle East in support roles for Israel, as proposed by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
I am against Netanyahu’s ground invasion of Gaza, which will inevitably lead to mass killings of Palestinian civilians and escalate violence. If there are any future bills supporting this, you need to vote against them and not co-sponsor.
The U.S. Constitution and the War Powers Act stipulate that only Congress can authorize the president to use military force in a foreign war, except in cases of self-defense. Previous administrations from both parties have ignored this, with unauthorized strikes in places like Syria and Libya. I want you to stand against ANY use of military force that supports Israel or hurts Palestine.
And of course, I am against the usual funding of $3.8 billion PER YEAR to Israel. This 10-year agreement began in 2016. I do not want a renewal in 2026, and in the next election, I will vote for representatives who WILL NOT VOTE TO FUND ISRAEL. I will be keeping track of how you vote now, and I will not vote for you if you decide to fund Israel in any way.
I am a single-issue voter for this. I want you to defund Israel. I do not want a single dollar spent on supporting Israel. I will be paying attention to how you vote in the upcoming weeks and months, and if you vote to fund or provide weapons, troops, or intelligence to Israel, I will NOT vote for you in the next election.
We are paying attention to the budget. We know when you're giving aid to a country committing genocide instead of helping your constituents in the USA. Both myself and tens of thousands of other constituents have spent years saying that we don’t want our hard-earned taxpayer dollars going to Israel. The lack of willingness to fund anything for American citizens, but the quickness with which you take action for Israel is telling. It is unacceptable.
As an elected official, you have the opportunity to listen to the public and stand against genocide. Israel is currently committing war crimes against Palestine. You can stop this by defunding Israel. THOUSANDS of Palestinian people have been killed, 1/3 of them children, in just a couple of days. One child every 15 minutes is being killed. YOU can prevent this by refusing to send additional weapons and funding to Israel.
We are currently spending BILLIONS of dollars EVERY YEAR on Israel. I do not want my money going towards the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians. Not a dollar more.

A Pro Pal mob harassed Rep. Schneider in his Jewish neighborhood at 3AM last night. Sure is weird how the Keffiyeh Klux Klan disproportionately targets Jewish and Black Democrats. Not beating the David Duke allegations.
I was confused about which Schneider you were talking about. Turns out it's Brad Schneider, the rep for Highland Park, IL, the Chicago suburb where I used to work (and where that asshole shot up the parade). Yeah, Highland Park is very Jewish. Also, I wasn't sure if it was true, because I couldn't find anything about it at first.

From the city government:

Representative Schneider is part of a bipartisan group of reps working on a plan for what happens to Gaza after the war ends (assuming bibi accepts that). He's also very critical of pro-Palestinian protestors because he knows they don't want peace. He's denounced rep tlaib and others for their inflammatory rhetoric. On the other hand, he wants a two-state solution and to rebuild the strip. And he's Jewish.
Of course they don't like him.

22 Democrats vote to censure Tlaib over Israel criticism
Twenty-two Democrats on Tuesday voted to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (R-Mich.) for her criticism of Israel following Hamas’s deadly attack last month.
The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.), accused Tlaib of “promoting false narratives regarding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel.” It also references her use over the weekend of the controversial phrase “from the river to the sea,” which is considered by many to be antisemitic.
Democratic leadership earlier in the day urged members to vote for a motion to kill the censure resolution and the party largely stuck together, with only one Democrat voting to advance it.
Many defended Tlaib’s right to make the controversial comments, citing the First Amendment, despite disagreeing with her words.
But on the final vote, 22 of Tlaib’s colleagues opted to reprimand her.
“We are at an exceedingly perilous moment, when emotions and intentions are on a razor’s edge. I believe that Members of Congress should be free to express their opinions, no matter how distasteful they may be. I also believe they have a duty to express the values and priorities of their districts,” Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) said of his vote to censure Tlaib.
He added, “I recognize this censure resolution is not a perfect resolution in its language or form, but unfortunately it is the only vehicle available to formally rebuke the dangerous disinformation and aspersions that Rep. Tlaib continues to use and defend. I feel that I have no other recourse but to vote to censure her.”
Here are the Democrats who voted in favor of the censure resolution:
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.)
Rep. Jim Costa (D-Calif.)
Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.)
Rep. Don Davis (D-N.C.)
Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.)
Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine)
Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.)
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.)
Rep. Greg Landsman (D-Ohio)
Rep. Susie Lee (D-Nev.)
Rep. Kathy Manning (D-N.C.)
Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.)
Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-N.C.)
Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.)
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.)
Rep. Pat Ryan (D-N.Y.)
Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.)
Rep. Kim Schrier (D-Wash.)
Rep. Darren Soto (D-Fla.)
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.)
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.)
Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.)
In addition to the Democrats who bucked their party, four Republicans voted against the censure: Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), John Duarte (R-Calif.), Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Tom McClintock (R-Calif.).

MSNBC’s Reid: ‘From the River to the Sea’ Has Been Used in Ways That ‘Could Be Arguably’ Anti-Israel
On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” host Joy Reid stated that the phrase “From the river to the sea,” “has been used in ways that I think could be arguably negative toward Israel or wanting Israel not to exist anymore. But not everyone agrees that that’s what it is.”
Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL) stated that “when they [Hamas] say, ‘From the river to the sea,’ it has a very specific meaning. And that meaning needed to be called out.”
Reid then asked, “Well, let me ask you this question, because this phrase has had many meanings over the many years, and it has been used in ways that I think could be arguably negative toward Israel or wanting Israel not to exist anymore. But not everyone agrees that that’s what it is. Are you aware that the Likud Party — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s party — used in its original party platform, between the Sea and the Jordan there will be only Israeli sovereignty? So others have used the phrase as well.”
Schneider cut in to respond, “And are just as wrong. … I’m one of the founders and co-chairs of the Abraham Accords Caucus in Congress, bipartisan, bicameral, and the idea of the Abraham Accords, the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab states is that Jews and Arabs belong to the same land, both have legitimate claims to that land, and both need to learn how to live on that land. And the Abraham Accords [recognize] Israel, but also [recognize] that, by embracing each other, Arabs and Jews together, can not only lift up the land, but can lift up each other, the people of the region, and give all their kids the future and prosperity that they deserve.”

More than a dozen headstones at an Illinois Jewish cemetery were vandalized with swastikas on Monday, police said.
Police found 16 large headstones with “large red spray-painted swastikas” at Congregation Am Echod Jewish Cemetery in Waukegan, a city about 45 miles north of Chicago, according to a statement from Keith Zupec, chief of police for the Waukegan Police Department.
Police also found another 23 headstones "that had been defaced with non-specific red spray-painted graffiti," according to the statement from Zupec.
Video obtained by Fox affiliate WFLD of Chicago shows that at least one of the headstones was also defaced with what appears to read, "Kanye was rite," referencing the recent antisemitic comments by the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.
Brad Goodman, spokesperson for the Waukegan Mayor’s Office, told NBC News that WFLD's report appears accurate, but that officials “can’t confirm verbatim what was written, as the writing is difficult to read.”
Officials with the congregation could not immediately be reached.
Similar antisemitic messages referencing the rapper's comments have also appeared over an L.A. freeway and at a Florida-Georgia football game last month.
The vandalism at the Illinois cemetery comes as antisemitic incidents have been on the rise across the country.
Waukegan's mayor, Ann Taylor, condemned the vandalism in a statement, adding that she was "deeply disturbed and angered by the hateful imagery."
"Hate does not have a home in Waukegan; when such incidents occur, our marginalized neighbors are victimized, and our entire community suffers," Taylor said. "I hope our officers promptly locate the perpetrators of this despicable act and hold them accountable, and I offer my full support to those directly impacted by this vandalism.”
Rep. Brad Schneider, a Democrat who represents the city, said in a tweet he was "shocked and appalled" by the vandalism.
"Hate has no home here," he wrote.
"Antisemitism must neither be normalized nor accepted," he continued in another tweet.
The Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating, police said.

Some Democratic groups, lawmakers frustrated with No Labels' third-party push
July 28, 2023, 6:52 PM EDT
By Vaughn Hillyard and Rebecca Kaplan
"No Labels, the group laying the groundwork for a potential bipartisan, third-party presidential ticket in 2024 is facing increasing scrutiny among Democrats on Capitol Hill who are concerned about the potential ticket siphoning votes from President Biden’s re-election campaign and helping lift former President Trump back into the White House.
Thursday on Capitol Hill, Matt Bennett, the executive vice president of public affairs at the centrist Democratic group Third Way, and Rahna Epting, the executive director of the progressive group MoveOn, spoke to “several dozen” House and Senate chiefs of staff in two briefings the groups organized to lay out the potential implications of No Labels’ possible third-party presidential effort, according to Bennett.
“What we told them is what we’re telling you and everyone: This is a dangerous and bad idea, and Democratic officials should be on the record saying it’s a bad and dangerous idea,” Bennet said.
Between the two briefings, No Labels’ national director, former Democratic Rep. Joe Cunningham, sent an email to some of the chiefs of staff in attendance. In it, he said that No Labels is simply providing "another path forward" in case Americans believe another presidential ticket is best to solve the nation's divisions, but also criticized those attempting to stop them.
“Efforts that attempt to slow-walk or block our access from the ballot must be seen for what they are: undemocratic attacks on voting rights and our Constitution,” Cunningham wrote in part in his email, which was obtained by NBC News.
One of the House members most vocal in his rising opposition to the group’s efforts is Illinois Democratic Rep. Brad Schneider. He’s a member of the House Problem Solvers Caucus, a bipartisan coalition of approximately 60 Democrat and Republican House members.
No Labels’ founder and CEO Nancy Jacobson often heralds the Problem Solvers Caucus, which she helped create in 2017. Jacobson specifically highlighted that work during a July interview with NBC News when she was asked why the public should trust the group’s motives.
The caucus initially worked with No Labels, with members regularly joining with the group to tout a bipartisan message. And No Labels recently highlighted the Problem Solvers’ legislative accomplishments in a fundraising email this month.
But Schneider said that since Jacobson began pressing the effort to create a presidential ticket that would rival the Democratic Party, fellow Democratic members of the Problem Solvers Caucus have expressed growing frustrations with the group and, specifically, Jacobson’s frequent references to her past work with them.
Schneider told NBC News that the Problem Solvers Caucus is “an independent entity. No Labels neither speaks for us, nor guides us.”
“There are a lot of frustrations in how No Labels is trying to gain credibility on the backs of Problem Solvers [Caucus],” Schneider said.
“I think the challenge for No Labels is that their credibility is — if not absolutely — very much so dependent on the riding the backs of the Problem Solvers. Problem Solvers doesn’t need No Labels. Our credibility is based on, first, the fact we exist, that we’re working together with Republicans and Democrats sitting in the same room, working on ideas, hearing ideas from the outside world and and trying to develop solutions that address the challenges we face.”
MEET THE PRESS BLOGSome Democratic groups, lawmakers frustrated with No Labels' third-party push
He continued: “It’s clear that Nancy wants to stand on that record, too, with No Labels, but the fact of the matter is [that] they are separate from us and it is a misrepresentation of the reality.”
Another Democratic lawmaker, New Hampshire Rep. Annie Kuster, pushed back against No Labels’ efforts after the briefing as well. Kuster joined the “No Labels Problem Solvers Group,” a precursor to the caucus, in 2013, but is not a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus.
“They are preaching unity, when in fact their agenda is very divisive. And it is going to result in one outcome and that’s the re-election of Donald Trump,” said Kuster. “And you can tell that that’s the intention if you look at their donors and who their donors are and what the goals of their donors are.”
When asked through No Labels to comment about the meetings and the criticism, Cunningham praised the caucus but argued the two are “separate.”
“The Problem Solvers Caucus has done amazing bipartisan work and we applaud it. But No Labels and the Problem Solvers have always been separate entities and we never expected members to support our ballot access efforts,” he said.
“No Labels is listening to the clear demand the American public has for better choices in 2024, and we think members will hear the exact same thing when they go back to their districts in August.”
CORRECTION (July 29, 2023, 1:25 p.m.): A previous version of this article identified New Hampshire Democratic Rep. Annie Kuster as a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus. While she joined a precursor to the caucus in 2013, she is not a member of the caucus now."
One of the founding members of No Labels is Susan Collins. That's all you need to know about how sleazy the organization is.
