Bingo. That’s why I call Skirata ableist. And as you can see he’s an emotional manipulator too.
They were all troubled souls, unpredictable and violent, the product of too much genetic tampering and a brutal infancy. Skirata would punch any fool who dared call them nutters, but they were a handful even for him sometimes. —True Colors
For someone who claims that he is concerned about people making light of, unfairly passing judgment on, or dismissing the Nulls’ mental health issues…
“Ooh, he likes you. Hobnobbing with ARC officers from the Bonkers Squad, eh?”
“We have an understanding,” Fi said. “I don’t laugh at his skirt, and he doesn’t rip my head off.”
Yes, Ordo had taken a shine to him. […] Null ARCs were psychotic—bonkers, as Skirata put it—but they were unshakably loyal when the mood struck them. —Triple Zero
…he coined a lovely phrase doing so and apparently it said to other troopers…
Kal’buir said the Kaminoans had messed up the Nulls…. —True Colors
Of course Ordo’s messed up. They’re all messed up. They used live rounds on exercise at five years old, they fought their first war at ten, and the lucky few got their first kiss as grown men aged eleven. Almost all of them—millions—will die without ever having heard someone say, “Welcome home, sweetheart, I missed you.” You think you’d be totally sane after that? —Kal Skirata to Captain Jaller Obrim, CSF Anti-Terrorist Unit, discussing life in uniform —True Colors
…talks in private about how messed up the Nulls (and clone troopers in general) are and in part attributes their mental health issues to lack of romance, de-emphasizing the valid concerns he brings up, and lacking sensitivity and empathy in language…
The coded entry system blipped and the doors slid open. Ordo strode through them, probably aware of the kind of entrance he could make.
Delta had never worked with a Null ARC before. Maybe they thought it would be no different from working with Alpha or any of the other Jango-trained ARC troopers. Skirata watched with interest. Ordo would certainly break some more ice.
[Ordo apologizes to Skirata for being late and performs some figurative housekeeping. Fi greets Ordo and refers to Ordo’s kama as a skirt; Fi knows this is a sensitive point, but he is wholly good-natured. Fi expects a delighted greeting from Ordo. Instead, Ordo calmly smacks Fi to the floor in a “none-too-playful body press”.]
Boss’s expression was a study in shock. The Delta boys jerked upright in their seats and stared as if they were debating whether to step in and break it up. Ordo looked like cold death; even Skirata had times when he wasn’t quite sure which way Ordo would jump.
[Ordo apparently threatens Fi. Suddenly, Ordo laughs, puts Fi back on his feet, and greets him in the initially expected and enthusiastic manner.]
Boss glanced at Skirata, who smiled enigmatically, or so he hoped. Nulls were either your best friend or your worst imaginable enemy. Fi, luckily, had a devoted friend. He still looked shaken by the nature of the reunion, though.
“Okay, you can thin out now and we’ll resume tomorrow morning with our little generals for a full intel briefing at oh-eight-hundred,” Skirata said. “Now that we all understand each other.” —Triple Zero
…and intentionally co-opts Ordo’s known tendency to be somewhat violently impulsive when frustrated or annoyed to “break the ice” with Delta by frightening them, clearly expecting something to set off Ordo soon and purposefully allowing Ordo’s first impression to be that of a ~scary mentally ill person~ rather than a skilled intelligence agent, a ranking officer, or any of Ordo’s merits as a person or a soldier that serve the situation.

actually on the topic of battle stims I know theyre a minor detail but there's no way that whole deal doesn't add an extra tortuous tick to the horrors of war tally chart. Coming down with only canteen water and those fuck ass rations as landing gear is already rough and then you add in not being able to risk sleeping/rest, post-combat stress crash, ignoring health risks to redose cause carrying on is non negotiable, etc. and if you make it through the reward is tweaking it out of your system in a freezing laat/i. even if they're the smoothest long acting designer pills there's something uniquely nightmarish about the fact it's in your body playing with the basic functions- there's no way to real-time compartmentalize how it feels to breathe and how your blood moves. Idk. Me personally I'd be deepthroating my DC in about 5 seconds

Republic Commando: 501st About Order 66
"Only a civvie would have thought of Order 66 in simple terms of either unflinching loyalty or cruel betrayal. It was neither. It was complicated. It was the sort of complicated you could only truly grasp if you were standing there with a rifle in your hands, if all your buddies were dead, if you understood exactly why orders weren't optional. And it was the sort of complicated you just didn't have time to debate and second-guess in the middle of a crisis.
That was why you drilled. That was why you had orders. It was to make sure situations- and soldiers- didn't fall apart when things got tough."
-----
"There were clones who likes their Jedi officers, or hated them, or didn't know them well enough to have an opinions, and there were clones who felt the Jedi had simply used up troopers' lives in their plan to overthrow the government. But most of them carries out the order, and for one reason- lawful orders couldn't be ignored when you felt like it. The army was there to do the bidding of elected governments, not to decide policy for itself. Orders came from those who had the bigger picture when you didn't."

I hate this clickbait title! It's not even what happened!
Etain is around her late teens or early 20s in Hard Contact (she does not have a canon age and it's all up to speculation). Using the term Padawan is for shock value because most people know Padawans are around 14-16 during the Clone Wars era (but Padawans were usually in their 20s Pre-Clone Wars. Example: Obi-Wan) Etain could very easily be one of the last generations of Jedi that were Padawans in their 20s before being knighted because of the Clone Wars
Etain was knighted by the time they officially got into a relationship, so the whole Padawan thing doesn't even make sense.
The title also insinuates that Darman could have taken advantage of Etain (when it's kinda the opposite).
Talking about how the Clone's sex drive scared the Kaminoan's has the implications that the Clones sexually assault people. The implication being their sex drive is too high and can't be controlled.
The title is totally leaning on the interpretation "Clone who knocked up some naive teenage girl" This whole video title is written in bad faith. It also doesn't help that he's making a video title and thumbnail that implies that a POC took advantage of "innocent white teenage girl". This is just horrible. There's too much to unpack.

A couple of weeks ago, I read this fic by @bardan-jusik aka verpineshutterrifle. To quote their summary: "Falin/Kal on Surcaris, and Munin finding him, mostly feral." The fic is really good, big recommendation.
Anyway, it inspired me to doodle the scene in which Munin Skirata finds little Kal/Falin Mattran, who had been surviving on his own for about one year.
Somehow, things escalated, and the quick doodle became a full-on painting project.
Painting this brought up questions I never thought about, like "What did Munin Skirata actually look like, other than having green armour?"
I did the outlines for both Falin and Munin with traditional ink, everything else is done with Krita. I'm still not fully happy with some bits of the picture, but for this being the second thing I have ever done in Krita, and also for me not having a tablet and thus having to work with my mouse, I think it turned out alright.

current events on fandom blog moment but I think one of the more relevant takeaways you can get from repcomm and the fact that a bunch of spec ops personnel shifted pretty seamlessly into papa kal's independent crime syndicate is that governments, but especially currently crumbling empires (cause let's face it the republic is well. not good at being that), rely on the classified parts of their armies to essentially act as a mafia to carry out their dirty work. I think this is doubly true during the imperial era of star wars but the republic to me will always represent the 'nobility for pr' facade of liberal democracy

cannot get over lately the realization that while repcomm is widely criticized for being 'anti-jedi', it's WAY kinder and more understanding to all of its force-using characters and the jedi order as an organization than actual anti-jedi fans are
#verp talks#and at this point im just over in the corner eating popcorn#dont worry im sure i'll feel like getting into essay-length fights about this 20 year old book series again soon#its just really funny to see posts going around that are WAAAYYY more critical of jedi than repcomm has EVER been#karen traviss just has this miraculous talent for making absolutely everybody mad while imo being quite reasonable#like everything about jedi in repcomm is NECESSARY if youre going to actually address the ethical issues with the clone army#which is the sort of book that she writes and was hired to write#she really did pull a lot of punches actually#all of repcomm's 'criticism' of the jedi order seems to me like it was unavoidable if you're doing a military realism take on the clone war#it was really quite sympathetic towards the political nuances of the situation and how individual jedi also feel trapped and#how hard it really is to be the first person to stand up and say No We Can't Do This#meanwhile you have some fans just flat out saying that every jedi is a slave owner no nuance do not pass go do not collect $200#how hard it is to be an individual trying to stand up to a system that you know is wrong is a huge theme of repcomm#even kal looks back and is like 'why the hell didnt we all just say no on kamino. we could have all refused.'#'we could have taken all of tipoca city by force if we organized'#and thats the point with the jedi order too#in theory they all could have refused. but it just isnt that easy. it doesn't work that way. organizing individuals against a system is har#and thats not even accounting for the super evil incarnate BBEG who is actively and directly manipulating both sides#so like a major point of repcomm and specifically of bardan's character#is that you cannot wait for everyone else to organize around you#you individually have to say no to things that you know are wrong and YES that is virtually impossible to do but you have to TRY#bardan was INCREDIBLY lucky and fortunate to be in a position that ALLOWED him to walk out and it took him over 2 years to reach that point#anyways im begging people to read repcomm and forget about everything theyve ever heard the fandom say about it#just come at it with an open mind#buckets and buckets and buckets of nuance in this bad boy if you're ready for it#and if you can put aside the Moral Polarization Tumblr Brainrot for a bit#you just have to take the series as it is and not try and sort everything into Bad or Good as you read it
