Experiment (Pageant Challenge)

I had the judges spend some extra time with the contestants even though it wasn’t part of the rules because I wanted to see if I could get more things happening with their relationships. Here are a few highlights:

Judge Trey seems to have developed a thing for Judge Rick. They don’t actually like each other, and they have no pink relationship bar, so maybe Trey is just feeling frisky in general.

The pressure of the contest is getting to Geeta Rasoya.

Geeta is so on edge that she cussed Maaike Haas out in front of a judge. No “Miss Congeniality” for you, Geeta.

Mila Munch developed a serious skin disease.

Maaike’s skin disease is back even though she took medicine for it yesterday.

Alice Spencer slapped the crap out of Judge Trey.

But he seemed to like it.

Judge Rick did a hip bump with Mila. Umm...I think that’s called showing favoritism.

Lilliana Kealoha got tired and took a nap in the middle of the meet and greet.

I started doing this thing where I made myself pick only from the interactions that showed up on the first panel, and if an interaction had a colored tab that indicated the sim really wanted to do that thing, I had to click that.

Well, Eliza Pancakes go the urge to flirt with Judge Trey, so one little flirty action led to them autonomously getting busy in the closet!

Trey bailed without a word immediately after. Eliza thought it would increase her score, but her relationship points with Judge Trey went DOWN afterward! 

Not to be deterred, Eliza goes right out and puts the moves on Judge Rick. Now that she’s had a makeover and been freed from Bob, she’s ready to go!

Okay so, I really liked the interactions that came out of me having to click on wants with colored tabs because it made me click on things I normally wouldn’t, like flirting or slapping, so I’m going to add that into the rules. Also, I think they need more time together, so I’m probably going to extend the meet-and-greets to longer.

Morning Of Day 1 Did Not Go As Planned (Pageant Challenge)

I’m doing a run-through of my 3-day Pageant Challenge to work out the kinks. Here’s what happened during the morning of Day 1...  

(Pics are a little dark--I didn’t want to spend time editing them as this is just a fact-finding mission at this point.)

Today is the meet-and-greet meal in two parts: the morning for the first set of contestants and the afternoon for the second set of contestants. Pageant Judge Rick Rockfield decided to be anti-social and stand off in the corner to study the contestants. 

Okay, I guess he is supposed to be judging, but that’s still kind of creepy. Also,  the contestants’ scores will be based partly off of their relationship points with the judges, so he needs to mingle.

The rules say I can hire a caterer, which I did, but then I realized I could just use one of these handy-dandy thingies with instant food. I’m using someone else’s build, so this was just sitting there in the corner waiting for me to clue in. Cool.

Even though I had the contestants and judges in separate clubs with the contestant club activities set to be social with the judges’ club, the contestants stood around talking among themselves for the first half hour. After 30 minutes, they finally started to talk to the judges and eat. 

I set up the room with 2 tables, 1 for each judge, but then, of course, the judges decided to sit at the same table, leaving most of the contestants out.

I got Judge Trey Bennett to sit at his own table only to have Judge Rick get up and leave his table. Okey dokey then.

Aaaand Judge Rick is back in the corner scoping things out and avoiding the contestants again. Meanwhile, Judge Trey is alone at his table while the contestants talk to each other again.

Weirdo.

Maaike Haas sits down with the judge, but Judge Trey is distracted by something stinky.

Geeta Rasoya joins Judge Trey at his table, but he ignores Maaike and Geeta to talk to Margo Villareal who is sitting at the other table.

Halfway through, I check their relationship bars, and nothing. They all have the same barely-there amount of green. I’ve been using the club method to encourage the contestants to talk to the judges, but I now also start using the manual method on top of that where I personally direct each contestant to talk to a judge.

Meanwhile, the caterer is cooking and cooking her invisible food, but 2-and-a-half hours in, not one dish has been produced.

There’s food on the other stove, so it must be a glitch.

And surprise! Maaike suddenly has a serious and contagious skin condition! The challenge rules state that you can’t tend to a contestant’s needs (I meant bladder, energy, etc.), so I need to amend that to YES PLEASE BUY THE POOR GIRL SOME MEDICINE IF SHE GETS SICK. It wouldn’t be much of a pageant if everyone looked like this (or would it?).

Now Judge Trey, who is supposed to be building relationship points with the contestants, seems to be hiding.

Alice Spencer corners him and has him all to herself for about an hour.

Rick wanders off into the kitchen to talk to the caterer. He’s probably asking her what the heck she has been doing all this time and where the food is. 

Alice seems to have said something that completely freaked Judge Trey out.

I finally get Judge Rick to return to the banquet room, and the caterer comes with him. She looks sad--probably because I’ve locked everyone in this area and she can’t get out.

The banquet ends, and I’m supposed to tally points for the contestants based on their relationships with the judges, BUT THEY DON’T HAVE ANY. After 4 straight hours of nothing to do but talk and eat, they have the tiniest green bars which are all basically the same. 

Judge Rick’s relationships--no significant difference between all 6 contestants--maybe Maaike, Alice, and Anaya are the slightest bit lower.

At least Judge Trey has some small variations in his relationship bars.

Judge Trey spent the most time talking to Alice and Margo, and he has the LOWEST relationships with them. So funny! I guess he didn’t like what they had to say. Okay, at least I can use that.

Next up is the afternoon meal with the second group of contestants, so maybe I can direct them more from the start and get those bars up. We’ll see. Stay tuned!

Afternoon Of Day 1 Turned Violent (Pageant Challenge)

This is a play-through of my new pageant challenge to see what works and what doesn’t. The second group of contestants is meeting with the judges for the afternoon. The goal is for them to get their relationship points up; higher relationship points mean higher judges’ scores.

Group 1 did not work so well because I put them in a club with automatic social interactions, but it wasn’t enough to get their relationships very high or very different from each other in 4 hours, so with this second group, I’m doing everything manually and utilizing pause to cue up actions (which is currently not allowed in the rules, but I’m going to change them). 

Things started off normally enough with the judges each at their tables. Here’s Judge Trey with Lilliana Kealoha. 

Judge Rick has a full table of contestants, and he’s bragging to them about how much money he makes.

Katrina Caliente is distracted by the art. (This is good because I want some of them to be distracted so that some have higher scores and some lower scores to make eliminations easier).

Darling Walsh is in the kitchen with the caterer who is pointless and not cooking at all. Everyone is locked in this area so they don’t leave, but I left the kitchen open since this is someone else’s build and they had an archway instead of a door. I will soon find out that I should have locked the kitchen off from the contestants.

And more people gather in the kitchen. Judge Trey seems to always be sneaking off from where all the contestants are. Maybe he doesn’t like this part of his job?

Meanwhile, Katrina Caliente is still distracted.

Finally, Katrina is able to tear herself away from the fascinating art, but then she she eats alone instead of using her time to schmooze the judges.

After her meal, Katrina finally talks to a judge, but she finds it all so boring.

But wait! What happened to Judge Trey, and why does he have a black eye?! A quick look at his relationship panel reveals that he must have lost a fight to Darling! That is awesome, but unfortunately, I missed it because everyone was in 2 rooms. Lesson learned. 

Suprisingly, this does not automatically disqualify Darling. Also, Trey has the mean trait, so he probably had it coming.

Darling wisely decides to concentrate all of her attention on Judge Rick since her relationship with the other judge is beyond repair in the time she has with the judges. Things seem to be going well.

But based on Darling’s facial expression, maybe the conversation took a turn for the worse.

Note the catty look on Lilliana’s face. She loves that things are going badly for Darling--one less competitor to worry about.

This whole process is very tiring for Eliza Pancakes and Supriya Delgato.

The 4 hours with the judges is up, and here are the results.  (Oops--should have hit that home button to only see the contestants, but I didn’t think of it at the time.)

These results are still not what I’m looking for. Everyone has about the same relationship score with Judge Rick except for Katrina. I wanted a variety of scores in order to make it easier to give the contestants different point amounts.

Judge Trey’s scores are a little bit more varied.

It looks like despite Katrina’s earlier distraction, she still managed to score about the same as Miko and Eliza. Meanwhile Lilliana and Supriya are slightly lower, and of course, Darling really messed things up by giving the judge a black eye. A real no-no in the pageant world, LOL.

Fortunately, @enkisstories​ gave me a link to a mod called Search/Show Sim Info by Itasan2 that shows exact friendship points down to one decimal point, so hopefully that will show the difference in scores and solve my problems.

Miss World Promo (Pageant Challenge)

Trey: Hello, everyone. This is Trey Bennett speaking to you from the beautiful Hotel Del Sol. You probably recognize me from my time as a child actor on the hit show “Goth House Mysteries” or from my days as a teen pop star when my song “Where’s My Llama, Mama” topped the charts at number 2.  

Rick: And I’m Rick Rockfield. You may remember me from my days as a news anchor on WSIM or as the former host of the New Year’s Eve Countdown in San Myshuno Square.

Trey: It’s that time of year again. Yes, the Miss World contest will be aired live, right here on Channel 4, in just a few days. Rick and I will be your judges and co-announcers for this spectacular event.

Rick: We have some stunning and talented beauties competing for the title. I think this is the most beautiful batch of ladies we’ve had so far, don’t you Trey? 

Trey: Absolutely, Rick. This is a night you don’t want to miss, folks, so be sure to tune in to see who will take the crown and earn the right to be called...Miss World!

Judges’ Thoughts (Pageant Challenge)

The first day of the pageant is over, and judges (and D-list celebrities) Trey Bennett and Rick Rockfield retreat to the hotel bar for a much needed drink. It’s late, and nobody else is around.

Trey: Well, I don’t know about you, Raging Rick, but I’m exhausted. What did you think of the meet and greet?

One night about 10 years ago while anchoring a live news show, an intern spilled water on Rick during a commercial break. He went off on her, screaming and calling her names. He didn’t realize the cameras had come back on, and he went live on the air in the middle of his tirade. 

Other news stations picked up on the story, and the press gave him the nickname “Raging Rick.” As a result, Rick lost his reputation and his job. Rick does NOT like being called “Raging Rick.”

Rick: Ugh. Boooring. I have to sit there and act interested while a bunch of broads talk talk talk about their mediocre lives.

Trey: Right?! (chuckles) I thought I was the only one who felt that way. I’m glad we see eye to eye.

Rick: (amused) Speaking of eyes, I heard you got out of line and some slender little girl gave you that shiner. That must be embarrassing. 

Trey: (defensive) Darling Walsh might be slender, but she’s an athlete and she’s very, very strong.

Swimsuit Competition (Pageant Challenge)

[I’m currently play testing my Pageant Challenge (currently beta version). Even though the winner is largely determined by the sims themselves, I thought it would be fun if everyone commented with their top 3 (does not have to be in order).]
