I'm going to vote for any woman in a Joss Whedon property because if a Whedon woman doesn't win this tournament then what's even the point, but specifically here I think it's worth emphasizing how cruelly Whedon treated the live human woman who played the character in question: after Charisma finally reached him to tell him she was pregnant (other sources corroborate she worked hard to get the news to him ASAP, while he refused her calls), he asked her if she was going to "keep it," berated her for apparently ruining his plans for the show, and then wrote in a subplot where her character slept with someone's teenage son and got pregnant with a demon baby which caused her character to go into a coma after the birth-- during the shooting of which he forced her to work in heels and during hours her doctor had not recommended as well as calling her fat.

After all that, they wanted Charisma to come back as Cordelia for the 100th episode special. She agreed, with the stipulation that her character not be killed off. The team agreed, she signed on, and when she got the script she found out they were killing off Cordelia anyway. This is not how Whedon&co. treat male cast members. And it took years for any kind of mainstream media to take it seriously!

Joss Whedon is a misogynist so extreme it took me two paragraphs to type out some of his mistreatment of one woman on the set of his supposedly exceptionally feminist show. I think his characters should win any misogynist-treatment bracket.

Cause of Death: Became comatose due to childbirth, eventually died

Propaganda:

A fiercely witty, complex and independent character - she was Always her own woman, only briefly having romantic relationships and it never defined her character for 6 seasons on both Buffy & Angel. Unfortunately the show producer was an abusive misogynist who targeted Cordelia's character specifically for humiliation when her actress Charisma Carpenter became pregnant. He is a colossal dick, and a terrible writer. Cordelia and Charisma deserved better.

Cause of Death: Tortured for several days before succumbing to her injuries

Propaganda:

Steph was a wildly popular character who was made Robin for a couple month specifically in preparation to kill her off in the War Games cross over event. During her time as robin comics fans responded so well that one of the writers asked if they should keep her alive and let her have a real run but an editor refused. Instead she was horrifically punished by the narrative for... doing exactly what every robin has done always. Not listening to batman, rescuing him, trying to earn his approval. Unlike the other robins she was murdered in a way that implied some kind of sexual assault while none of her friends or mentors looked for her. Did i mention she was 15?

One of my favourite pieces of likely unintentional foreshadowing in Buffy was the episode after Angel-which revealed the origins of the curse and had Buffy and him get closer romantically-introduced Jenny Calendar

I say "unintentional" cause I don't think Jenny's backstory was planned

As in I literally think it was something they came up with when breaking the two-parter that lost Angel his soul. We need someone Buffy trusts to tell her about the curse that wasn't revealed by looking up info on Angel-Jenny makes the most sense

Making it one of the kids is nonsensical and she's the only other adult outside of Giles who's in on the magical knowhow connected to the Scoobies. Plus-as awful as the Romani rep is-given its prior connection to magic the fact that she's mystically inclined helps sell this

This then has a retrofitting effect in the previous episode by warning the audience through a character they have a rapport with that something bad will happen if Buffy and Angel bump uglies thus it gives us tension leading to the end of that episode

The problems (sans racism) are two fold:

1. This makes Jenny unlikeable. She lied to the cast and didn't let the cast know the Romani tribe that Angel hurt were still keeping tabs on him

(edited because I got a detail from the story wrong)

2. This makes Jenny stupid. There's no hints to this secret mission. She never ONCE tries to stop Buffy and Angel getting close

I will grant the "techno pagan" background didn't lead to much after her introductory ep. She just....writes a spell on a Word doc sometimes

Her bridging tech and magic does lead to a lot of Willow's growth away from "Tech Geek" to "Insanely Powerful Witch" kind of nicely as her death has more of an impact on her character than even Giles

I don't know if Robia LaMorte refusing to come back hurt her broader impact on the show

There was allegedly a line in season 7 where Giles said he doesn't trust Buffy's judgement because of Jenny but that is deeply *DEEPLY* out of character and doesn't add up at all on how he behaved around her the prior 5 years

Honestly her infiltrating Sunnydale High to keep an eye on Angel is just funny when you remember Giles only has the librarian job as a front to be Buffy's Watcher

It's implied Snyder is also a plant from the Mayor to keep an eye on the school as well and later on Wood ALSO infiltrates the school to get close to Buffy

Was any of the faculty of Sunnydale High actually there to achieve the simple goals of higher learning?!
