Koningin Emmaplein (Scheepvaartkwartier)

Het Koningin Emmaplein is een plein in het Scheepvaartkwartier van Rotterdam, grenzend aan de Westzeedijk, recht tegenover het Museumpark.

Het Koningin Emmaplein is bebouwd tussen 1888 en 1891 naar een ontwerp van architect J.C. van Wijk. Aan het plein staan 15 herenhuizen, ontworpen in de stijl van de neorenaissance. De panden hebben aan de achterkant uitzicht op het park Schoonoord en boden aan de voorkant een uitzicht op het toen nog onbebouwde Land van Hoboken. De herenhuizen werden bewoond door mensen uit de bovenlaag van het Rotterdamse bedrijfsleven. Dit gegeven, in combinatie met de enigszins beschutte ligging, leidde tot de bijnaam Rijkeluishofje.

Op het plein staat een monumentale rode beuk (Fagus sylvatica Atropuni) en een siervaas uit 1890, ontworpen door Berlage. Toen Rotterdam in 1956 een zelfstandig bisdom werd, betrok het bisdom Koningin Emmaplein 3 als kantoor en woonhuis voor de bisschop. De toenmalige hoofdkerk van het bisdom, de Sint-Laurentius en Ignatiuskathedraal stond er vlak naast aan de Westzeedijk.

Het Koningin Emmaplein is een rijksmonument. Als deel van het Scheepvaartkwartier geniet het ook de status van beschermd stadsgezicht.

Malacca plaza church selfie

Standing outside the Dutch Protestant 1753 Christus Kerk van Malākkā (Dutch for Christ Church of Malacca) at the Rode Plein (Dutch for Red Square) of the Stadthuys (City Hall) in the City of Malākkā (Malacca), Malaysia.

The Stadthuys and its plaza were constructed in 1650, nine years after the Dutch took over Malacca from the Portuguese. However, the administration of the Christian faith was still held at the nearby Kerk van Sint-Paulus (Saint Paul Church), which was located atop the Bukit Melaka (Malacca Hill / Saint Paul’s Hill).

The climb up the Kerk van Sint-Paulus may have proven taxing for the older residents, so the Dutch decided to construct a new church near the base of the hill. So with the completion of the Christ Church van Malakka in 1753, the Kerk van Sint-Paulus was deconsecrated and used as a military armory.

The Christ Church Malaccawas sometimes called the Benedenkerk (Dutch for at the bottom of the hill).

Que faire dans les moments d’épreuves ?

Je suis toujours étonné quand je lis dans la Parole de Dieu des passages sur la joie dans les moments d’épreuves parce que lorsque je suis dans l’épreuve, mes pensées veulent courir dans toutes les directions. Je suis tout, sauf joyeux. Mais Dieu nous dit de nous réjouir en Lui quand le chemin devient difficile. Comment y parvenir ?

Il y a un petit livre dans l’Ancien Testament appelé les Lamentations qui nous donne quelques clés. Le pays a été dévasté par la guerre et les méchants ont gagné. Des cadavres, la famine, l’humiliation, l’esclavage, la moquerie. Le péché du peuple de Dieu les a finalement rattrapés.

Voyons un peu ce que dit l’auteur du livre ( qui est probablement Jérémie ). Il se trouvait dans une situation horrible mais en plus il délivrait fidèlement la Parole du Seigneur ; et beaucoup de gens de son peuple le méprisaient pour cela. Ils travaillaient à sa chute.

Voilà comment il a réagi :

« Sans cesse, je m’en souviens, et j’en suis abattu. Mais voici la pensée que je me rappelle à moi-même, la raison pour laquelle j’aurai de l’espérance : … » Lamentations 3:20-21 ( Bible du Semeur ).

J’aime cette expression « me rappelle à moi-même »

C’est comme s’il y avait une pensée qui n’était pas présente et que Jérémie la rappelle. La joie est juste là, attendant d’être appelée. Nous pouvons rappeler certaines vérités à notre esprit.

« Viens ici, foi ! Venez ici, souvenirs de la fidélité de Dieu dans le passé. Venez ici, promesses que Dieu a données dans Sa Parole. Viens ici, connaissance de la nature de Dieu. Partez d’ici, doutes, craintes, égoïsme et auto-apitoiement. »

La joie de Dieu ressemble davantage à un chien qu’à un chat. Elle vient quand on en appelle à Dieu. La joie est un produit dérivé de la foi en Dieu. Fais-Lui confiance et la joie va jaillir.

Alors, appelle la joie. Appelle la foi. Souviens-toi.

Mais ce n’est pas tout. Jérémie a commencé à se rappeler à quoi ressemble Dieu. Et à quoi ressemble-t-Il, Dieu ?

« : non, les bontés de l’Éternel ne sont pas à leur terme et ses tendresses ne sont pas épuisées. Chaque matin, elles se renouvellent. Oui, ta fidélité est grande ! J’ai dit : L’Éternel est mon bien, c’est pourquoi je compte sur lui. L’Éternel est plein de bonté pour ceux qui ont confiance en lui, pour ceux qui se tournent vers lui. » Lamentations 3:22-25 ( Bible du Semeur ).

Si tu te souviens de ces vérités, si tu te les rappelles constamment, l’espérance et la joie jaillissent. Quel genre de pensées et de souvenirs te « rappelles-tu à toi-même ? » De quoi te souviens-tu ?

De l’amour de Dieu et de Sa fidélité ou bien de tes faiblesses ? De l’impossibilité que tu vois ou de la puissance de ton Dieu qui Se soucie de toi ? Allons David ! te souviens-tu de tes échecs ou des moments où Dieu t’a aidé à gagner ?

Imagines-tu constamment la défaite et ce qui pourrait se passer ou te rappelles-tu à toi-même les promesses de Dieu de remplir tes pensées ? Essayes-tu de décider si oui ou non tu mérites les bénédictions de Dieu ou te repens-tu de tes échecs, te confiant dans Son pardon et t’attendant à ce qu’Il agisse pour toi ?

Que te rappelles-tu à toi-même, de quoi te souviens-tu ?

Quand nous avons mal, cette souffrance hurle pour attirer notre attention. Quand celui qui rode comme un lion rugissant, il est difficile de ne pas permettre à ses rugissements de retentir dans nos pensées. Mais nous pouvons nous rappeler et appeler certaines choses. Appelle la foi ! Appelle les souvenirs de Sa fidélité. Appelle ce que tu sais à propos de Dieu, de ce qui Il est réellement, et non de ce que Satan veut te faire croire qui Il est. Fais confiance à Jésus. Même dans les moments difficiles ; surtout dans les moments difficiles.

« Car le Seigneur ne le rejettera pas pour toujours. Mais s’il afflige, il aura aussi compassion selon son grand amour. Ce n’est pas par plaisir qu’il humilie et qu’il afflige les humains. » Lamentation 3:31-33 ( Bible du Semeur ).

Armés de cette vérité que nous connaissons :

« Il est bon d’attendre en silence la délivrance que l’Eternel opérera. » Lamentation 3:26 ( Bible du Semeur ).

« Attendre » ! nous n’aimons pas cela, n’est-ce pas ? Parfois nous attendons quelques heures. Parfois nous attendons des années. Parfois nos prières voient leur exaucement pendant la vie de nos enfants et pas pendant la nôtre. Mais nous attendons avec confiance sachant qu’Il a tout sous Son contrôle.

Introspection et repentance

Une autre chose que nous devons faire pendant les temps difficiles : regarder attentivement notre vie et voir si nous avons joué un rôle dans le désastre. Si c’est le cas, nous nous repentons et changeons.

« Considérons notre conduite et examinons-la, puis revenons à l’Eternel. Tournons notre cœur, élevons nos mains vers Dieu qui est au ciel. Nous, nous avons péché et nous nous sommes révoltés. Tu ne nous as pas pardonné : … » Lamentations 3:40-42 ( Bible du Semeur ).

Toutes les épreuves ne sont pas le résultat de notre rébellion ou de notre péché mais certaines le sont. Avons-nous été infidèles dans notre façon de gérer notre argent ? Sommes-nous en guerre contre quelqu’un d’autre ? Avons-nous manqué à une promesse ? Justifions-nous le péché dans notre vie ?

Si nous nous repentons, Il nous pardonne. Mais si nous persistons à suivre un chemin qui n’est pas le Sien, nous récoltons ce que nous avons semé.

Appelle les pensées de Dieu. Souviens-toi de Sa fidélité. Attends patiemment qu’Il agisse. Examine-toi et change ce qui a besoin d’être changé.

Naar de lucht kijken

Ik was in Beijing om reportages te maken. Ik vond mezelf terug in een gay- en lesbocafé. Dat kan in China, zolang het maar niet op de gevel staat. Bijna alles kan in China, zolang je een beetje dimt. Niet te brutaal, niet te direct.

Daarom zeiden diverse intelligente en goed opgeleide Chinezen me dat kunstenaar Ai Wei Wei en de opstand op het plein van de Hemelse Vrede helemaal niet zoveel draagvlak hadden onder gewone Chinezen. Ik denk dat ze bedoelden dat de opstandige Chinese elementen het Confucianisme en het Taoïsme niet begrepen. Samenvattend: rustig aan. Niet te veel heibel trappen. Een beetje meedobberen op de cyclus van het leven.

Al is het Taoïsme een stuk minder gezagsgetrouw dan het Confucianisme. Taoïsten zijn eigenlijk anarchisten, maar dan met humor. Het punt is dat je Chinezen (en veel Japanners) niet zomaar kunt aanspreken op hun religieuze en spirituele overtuigingen. Dat is te direct; dat is onfatsoenlijk.

Ze zijn van het spirituele beleven; niet zo van het belijden, zoals sommige christenen. Ik was in Beijing thuis bij een manager van Sony. Zijn vrouw werkte voor Ikea; hun baby keek met de nanny naar een speelfilm over Hitler, die opmerkelijk populair was in China. In boekenstalletjes op straat waren vertaalde edities van Mein Kampf te koop.

Bijna beschroomd toonde de manager me zijn boeddhabeeld. Op het verontschuldigende af zei hij: “Ik ga maar eens per jaar naar de tempel. Dan verbrand ik nep-bankbiljetten. Ik bid voor een goede carriere.” Dat het Chinese communisme de afgelopen decennia weinig moest hebben van openlijk beleden religie, kon er toe bijdragen dat Chinezen er bijna beschroomd over praatten.

Het Rode Boekje vond Boeddha een lul. Maar de Chinese machthebbers gaven wel groen licht aan Tai Chi, de trage Taoïstische verdedigingskunst. Tai Chi is materialistisch, en daar houden communisten van. Talloze Taoïstische kloosters werden onder Mao door de Rode Garde kapotgeslagen; monniken vermoord. Nu beleeft het Taoïsme in China weer een opmars. Het is eigenlijk nooit weggeweest.

Er bestaan veel misverstanden over Chinezen. Bijvoorbeeld dat ze zich voor de lol kapot werken. In werkelijkheid doen ze dat alleen maar omdat ze op hun 40ste met pensioen willen, vertelde mijn tolk Guo Wei: “Dan gaan ze de hele dag een beetje naar de lucht kijken, een zeer Taoïstische bezigheid.”

In Beijing zag ik het een boel pensionado’s doen, zittend op stoelen buiten flats. Ze zeiden weinig tot niets tegen elkaar. Met fotografe Eline deelde ik een goedkope kamer in een studentenhotel waar het naar dieselwalm rook (het hotel lag aan een drukke weg).

Op een avond aten we in een Vlaams restaurant met Lingnan, een gedistingeerde studente uit de betere klasse. Later zou de liefde haar naar Canada brengen. Ik vroeg Lingnan: “Ben je Taoïste?” Met een klein glimlachje zei ze: “Misschien vertel ik dat een andere keer.”

Borger - Kamp Westerbork - Lheederzand (Nationaal Park Dwingelderveld)

Dinsdag 15 augustus

Gisteren heb ik heerlijk gefietst, vandaag wil ik lekker gaan wandelen. Allereerst pak ik mijn spullen in voor vertrek. Ik parkeer de auto net buiten het kampeerterrein om van daaruit richting het bezoekerscentrum te wandelen. Hiervandaan starten diverse wandelroutes.

Ik kies ervoor om eerst de heide en vennen route te gaan wandelen. Het is een korte route van 5,5 kilometer. Mij lijkt deze route vanwege de afwisseling erg leuk.

Ik word langs kleine vennetjes geleid, enkele heidevelden en door het bos. Na ruim een uur, want ik maak weer teveel foto's 😉, ben ik terug bij het beginpunt.

Bij het bezoekerscentrum is ook een horecagelegenheid dus tijd voor een latte! Na de stop besluit ik om ook de route 'Beleef het bos' te gaan lopen. Deze route is iets korter, 4,5 kilometer, en loopt...voornamelijk door het bos 🙃.

Ook deze route is leuk. In een folder staat informatie over wat ik onderweg te zien krijg. Zo maakt het de route leuker om te beleven, want je beseft dan pas echt waar je wandelt en hoe sommige gebieden zijn ontstaan.

Onderweg zijn er diverse mossen en paddenstoelen te zien.

Het is nog maar rond 13 uur wanneer ik weer terug ben en tegen half twee zit ik al in de auto. Ik zag gisteren op de kaart dat Kamp Westerbork hier niet heel ver vandaan ligt. Ik ben hier nog nooit geweest en vind het daardoor wel interessant om hier een bezoek aan te brengen. Het is tenslotte een belangrijk onderdeel van onze geschiedenis.

In twintig minuten ben ik er en ik kan nadat ik een ticket heb gekocht voor het museum, direct mee met de pendelbus naar het kampterrein.

Veel van de oude barakken is niet meer aanwezig, alles is in de jaren zeventig gesloopt, maar een aantal onderdelen zijn deels gereconstrueerd of met foto's in beeld gebracht.

De gids vertelt een indrukwekkend verhaal, zeker wanneer ik uiteindelijk de aantallen rode steentjes zie, een per overledene, die op het plein zijn weergegeven. 102.000 mensen zijn overleden die hier in het kamp hebben gezeten.

Na het bezoek aan het kamp ga ik terug naar het museum. Ook hier zijn de beelden en verhalen die je hoort en ziet indrukwekkend.

Na dit bezoek rij ik verder naar het natuurkampeerterrein Lheenderzand. Ook dit is een kampeerterrein van Staatsbosbeheer. Iets primitiever dan de vorige wat betreft douches, eentje voor de hele camping, maar de plekken zijn prachtig. Ik heb een beetje een plek enigzins wat afgelegen en daardoor heel mooi en rustig.

Ik ga me vanavond eens verdiepen in wat hier te doen is. Eerst eens uitgebreid koken.

Na het eten loop ik even een kort rondje rond het terrein door de bossen. Het is al wat schemerig en opeens vrees ik dat ik oog in oog met de wolf kom te staan die hier natuurlijk aanwezig is 🙈🙃...ik loop toch maar snel weer terug 😂!

Carnaval aan de macht

Is het mijn verbeelding, of wordt de parade voor de Dag van de overwinning op het Rode plein in Moskou elk jaar wat onmenselijker? Bijna elk jaar kijk ik op 9 mei, via de Russische televisie die je op internet in Nederland prima kunt volgen. Maar wat aanvankelijk een soort nostalgie leek – ik heb in een vorig leven, in de jaren tachtig van de vorige eeuw, heel wat ceremonies meegemaakt op…

Lantern Lighting

Now we have the famous lantern scene, where everybody gets to express their character and have dates, ranging from disastrous to delightful, with the objects of their affection. 

Wei Wuxian continues to be ridiculously good at drawing. 

We’ve all seen Lan Wangji’s lovely first smile in the show a million times, so...let’s look at it again!

This scene is important not just because of the smile, but because there’s a distinct shift in the way they talk about their growing relationship. In the pond, it was “come visit me” and “never!” “I want to be your friend” “No need.” Basically Lan Wangji firmly saying no to Wei Wuxian’s offers of friendship.

This time, Wei Wuxian says “let’s do this together” and Lan Wangji says “I’m used to being alone,” which is not actually a No, just an explanation. And WWX says, you can change that. And then Lan Wangji DOES change it, sharing the lantern and the promise with Wei Wuxian.

Whoever painted this flower is even better than Wei Wuxian at plein air painting.

Everybody’s wishes

Nie Huasang makes a practical wish. Wen Qing prays for her brother and Jiang Cheng notices how she’s like Yanli. Jiang Cheng isn’t very intense about Wen Qing, which could be a sign of his shyness but could also be a sign of his gayness or aceness. After all, later in life he’s an apparently wealthy clan leader who is hot as fuck, and needs an heir, since his nephew is a Jin. But he’s still not married, 16 years after breaking up with and uh, helping to kill and cremate, the girl he liked in summer school.

The Promise We Made Together

Wei Wuxian makes an ultra-idealistic wish/promise while Lan Wangji watches and falls the rest of the way in love with him, and silently makes the same pledge inside his head. Later they will each refer to this as a promise they made together, which is a really super high level of face-reading by Wei Wuxian, to understand that he really is speaking for both of them here.  While making this promise, Lan Wangji brings out his Yin Iron Magic Bag and waves it around in front of everyone, but nobody notices. 

Let’s take a moment to consider *why* this moment is so powerful for Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji is a boy whose emotions are always on the boil. He’s 100% upset all the time, at this age, and he keeps it clamped down all the time. His cultivation level is probably as high as it is partly because of all the work he does in emotion regulation. (note: if you haven’t read all the meta at @howpeacefulislwj​ , go read it; it’s awesome and hilarious)

Wei Wuxian doesn’t GAF about emotion regulation; he just expresses what he feels, all the damn time. 

He is openly bored, lusty, playful, hungry, whiny. He straight up tells Lan Wangji “you’re boring and you have a stick up your ass” as part of saying he wants to be friends; no deference and also no falseness.  

And he can see right through Lan Wangji’s reserve, barging into his loneliness and isolation without any regard for all of his wards. Wards are made to be broken.

(Unrelated note: Young Lan Wangji's rare moments of contentment seem to come from looking at something beautiful--the moon, falling petals, these lanterns, his mirror.)

But Wei Wuxian is also good. Lan Wangji desperately wants to be good. And here’s Wei Wuxian embodying this awful, amazing, tempting alternative path, in which all the interesting things in life get explored thoroughly, all the sweetness and beauty gets consumed unreservedly, all the pain and ugliness gets confronted and endured without hesitation. 

In this moment, Wei Wuxian tells Lan Wangji “you can change,” and then offers up this prayer/promise that is just pure chivarly, speaking straight to Lan Wangji’s heart. Very simply, I want to spend my life doing right. Not 3500 rules; just one.

This infuriating boy, who breaks rules and who flirts indiscriminately and who pushes and pushes and pushes, reveals himself in this moment to be a hero at the beginning of his journey, and Lan Wangji sees it, and his heart goes right over the cliff.

The Girls’ Room

The girl cultivators all rush over to Yanli to get in her business about her betrothal, inspiring Jin Zixuan to act like a jerk to her and get even further onto Wei Wuxian’s bad side. 

Talk Shit, Get Hit

Yanli’s wish was that Wei Wuxian would grow up and be good. He promptly launches his own personal Sunshot campaign, punching her fiancee so hard that the sun falls out of the sky and the previously well-lit scene transitions to full night.

So, in English, “don’t mention it again” is really mild, akin to “I don’t want to talk about it.” Wei Wuxian’s reaction makes it seem like Jin Zixuan said something really shitty, like “don’t you dare mention that woman to me!” So I’m assuming something is being lost in translation. 

Lan Wangji tries to calm him down. He grabs Wei Wuxian’s sexy arm muscle and basically holds it until the Jiangs exit the scene. 

Nie Huaisang has placed himself between the opposing factions, which is unusually direct of him. In the future he’ll stick to being an unindicted co-conspirator when Wei Wuxian starts trouble. 

Ants in my Pants

Lan Wangji thinks kneeling can make Wei Wuxian cry, which is adorable of him. 

He really relishes this opportunity to be a pedantic tool to his new boyfriend that annoying boy he hardly ever touches, and it really doesn’t work out for him, poor lamb.

Jiang Fengmian stops by to show exactly how deep his affection for Wei Wuxian runs, and to give him whiplash from constantly changing parental expectations. In a couple of hours he’ll be laughing over WWX & JC’s hijinks.

Wei Wuxian takes this opportunity to fantasize about bad things happening to the other boy in the fight, which is in no way foreshadowing of anything.

Douche Dads Conference

We now convene this meeting of the douchebag council. Jiang Cheng is also invited even though he’s a prick, not a douche. <--important distinction

This is our first time meeting Clan Leader Jin Guangshan. He's actually the most sensible and best parent in this scene, but his smug self-satisfaction hints at his true nature. This actor, Shen Xiaohai, has been active in cdramas for a long while now. I wonder what he looked like 15 years ago?

...Holy mother of god.

Jiang Fengmian is the worst dad and the worst husband here. His clan believes in letting children do what they want - uhh YOUR child wants to marry Jin Zixuan. “I wrote a letter to her mother, who arranged this marriage.” Uhhh she arranged for her sickly, low-cultivation-level, sweet and vulnerable child to marry the heir of a rich and powerful clan, with a powerful mother-in-law who’s looking forward to loving and protecting her. Basically she’s guaranteed her daughter’s safety and comfort, and even potential happiness, since her husband may learn to appreciate her (and in fact, does, thanks to soup and repeated beatings from WWX).

Mom worked hard and probably spent a fair amount of social capital to achieve this. And you’re going to toss that aside because the boy thinks he’s too good for her? What the everloving fuck, how are you a clan leader in the first place? 

You can see that Jiang Cheng understands all of this and what a terrible choice his father is making here. 

So do the other adults in the room.

Wei Wuxian goes to Jiang Yanli to sorta-apologize and sorta ask to be let off the hook for fucking up her engagement, which he absolutely did. He knows it, which is presumably why he bows to her in paperman form while hiding outside.

At no time has Jiang Yanli indicated to anyone that she doesn’t want to marry Jin Zixuan, as far as I can see, or said she wanted to be defended from insults with punching. Look how good SHE is at defending a person from insults, for comparison.

Yin Iron Blah Blah Blah

The senior Lans meet with Jiang Fengmian  to talk about the Yawn Yin Iron. Yawn. 

Jiang Fengmian addresses Lan Xichen as Lan Gongzi, which is adorable, since he is a big boy to everyone else. His family calls him Xichen and other people call him Zewu-Jun.

Farewell and Fuck You

Lan Quiren says goodbye with a heap of criticism for Wei Wuxian and the horse he rode in on, and Jiang Fengmian basically says, yep, that’s what he’s like, all right.  

Good thing Wei Ying gets so much verbal abuse at home he doesn’t take it very hard when he finds it in the field. 

Wangji doesn’t say goodbye properly, which will be a recurring theme for the two of them.

I don’t know if this is because he has a problem with goodbyes, or is just being a jerk, or because he’s so bad at lying he doesn’t dare talk to Wei Wuxian lest he reveal his travel plans. 

Indulgent Dad Continues to be the Worst

Jiang Cheng complains at Wei Wuxian for wanting to say goodbye to Lan Wangji, and WWX says he likes him because he is equal to WWX in fighting, whereas JC sucks. JC hits him tries to hit him--gosh, he DOES suck, comparatively. 

Yanli, who has been keeping these boys in line all summer, sighs deeply at her Dad’s tolerance for their hijinks. OP has five brothers and this sibling-hijinks behavior is 100% accurate, except for the part where it is happening at someone else’s house in front of the hosts. 

WWX pretending to be Lan Qiren where Lan Wangji can see him doing it, in front of Lan Qiren’s colleague and supposed friend, and just earning a laugh from the patriarch? Good lord.  Dad Jiang tolerating this is shocking, particularly in the in-show culture where corporal punishment is as common as tea.

Here in the real world, OP uses “positive discipline” with her child, and encourages other parents to consider it, particularly if your child is neuroatypical or asynchronous.  That said, JF should be punishing the crap out of both boys for this behavior every time it happens, or should quit being a clan leader.  He’s relying on Jiang Yanli to keep them in line while he gets to just be amused by them. And he’s letting Lan Qiren discipline Wei Wuxian instead of doing it himself. He suuuuuuucks. 

Lan Wangji watches all of this. Lan Xichen reminds Lan Wangji that without Wei Wuxian, he’s completely fucking miserable. Lan Wangji still doesn’t plan to bring him along on his trip, though.

Rabbits

At this same moment when Lan Wangji is staring down the barrel of future loneliness, Wei Wuxian is already deciding to leave the (forbidden) rabbits in Cloud Recesses “In case Lan Zhan gets lonely.”  This small decision by Wei Wuxian - breaking the rules of Cloud Recesses for the millionth time - is kinder than he knows. Because what is the job of these rabbits? Let’s have a desaturated flashback. 

Lan Zhan spent 3 years in the ice cave. The rabbits kept Lan Yi company in the ice cave. So...did the rabbits sneak in to keep Lan Wangji company in the ice cave as well? I’m going to say yes. By ep 43 they are following him to the gate of Cloud Recesses so they are very attached to him.  Well done, Wei Ying.

While Wei Wuxian annoys the bunny he has a flashback to the scene that happened 4 minutes earlier. The Untamed editors assume the viewership has the attention span of a goldfish, and I personally appreciate that they understand me so well.

Wei Wuxian figures out that Lan Wangji is going on the road alone, and tells the bunny immediately. The bunny is very concerned.

Koningin Emmaplein (Scheepvaartkwartier)

Het Koningin Emmaplein is een plein in het Scheepvaartkwartier van Rotterdam, grenzend aan de Westzeedijk, recht tegenover het Museumpark.

Het Koningin Emmaplein is bebouwd tussen 1888 en 1891 naar een ontwerp van architect J.C. van Wijk. Aan het plein staan 15 herenhuizen, ontworpen in de stijl van de neorenaissance. De panden hebben aan de achterkant uitzicht op het park Schoonoord en boden aan de voorkant een uitzicht op het toen nog onbebouwde Land van Hoboken. De herenhuizen werden bewoond door mensen uit de bovenlaag van het Rotterdamse bedrijfsleven. Dit gegeven, in combinatie met de enigszins beschutte ligging, leidde tot de bijnaam Rijkeluishofje.

Op het plein staat een monumentale rode beuk (Fagus sylvatica Atropuni) en een siervaas uit 1890, ontworpen door Berlage. Toen Rotterdam in 1956 een zelfstandig bisdom werd, betrok het bisdom Koningin Emmaplein 3 als kantoor en woonhuis voor de bisschop. De toenmalige hoofdkerk van het bisdom, de Sint-Laurentius en Ignatiuskathedraal stond er vlak naast aan de Westzeedijk.

Het Koningin Emmaplein is een rijksmonument. Als deel van het Scheepvaartkwartier geniet het ook de status van beschermd stadsgezicht.

DIERENMISHANDELING Pamplona is een te gekke stad. Het oude deel ligt ver boven de rest van de stad en is met een lift te bereiken. Wij nemen de e-bikes en peddelen mountenbikers vrolijk voorbij op het steile fietspad naar boven. De stad maakt zich op voor het jaarlijkse stieren mishandelen tot de dood er op volgt. Het is een festival die zijn weerga niet kent, Overal worden tenten opgebouwd voor optredens, op ieder plein en iedere lange straat staat een portocabin met toiletten. daar zou Amsterdam op koningsdag eens een voorbeeld aan moeten nemen. Elk standbeeld in de stad heeft een rood sjaaltje om. Een feest dat wij niet mee willen maken, dus zijn we voor woensdag, als het zo ver is, de stad uit. We staan geparkeerd in een nette buitenwijk in de schaduw van een bomenrij en zijn met de fiets in 10 minuten in de oude stad. De stadsbussen maken hier het lawaai van een Dyson stofzuiger. We zijn heel teleurgesteld als we ontdekken dat onze fietshelmen gejat zijn. Deze hadden we uit luiïgheid zoals altijd op de fiets vastgebonden i.p.v. in de auto op te bergen. Deze zondag is het enorm druk in de stad, alle families willen nog een rode sjaal of wit t-shirt scoren en daar zijn genoeg winkeltjes voor in de smalle straten met balkonnetjes. De houten hekwerken zijn ook al geplaatst om het publiek een beetje te scheiden van de idioten die voor de stieren uitrennen. Er staat een lange rij mensen bij het onderkomen van de stieren en de paarden die er woensdag aangaan. Veel kleine kinderen ook. Op het grote plein staan een handjevol protesters uit Equador het volkslied te zingen van de oorspronkelijke bewoners, waarvan zij zo te zien afstammelingen zijn. Voor €3 kun je een foto laten maken, waarop het lijkt alsof je door een stier op de horens wordt genomen. Daar is het pas druk. Als we maandagmorgen de stad uitrijden, heeft het geonweerd en is het heerlijk afgekoeld. We doen boodschappen bij een Mercado. We hebben nog nooit zo'n mooie supermarkt gezien. Een plavuizen vloer die wel marmer lijkt en 3 meter brede paden, zodat niemand je in de weg loopt. Een klanten toilet die je graag thuis zou willen hebben en je koopt er een pond vlees voor €3.20. en een fles Tripel Karmeliet (mijn favoriete bier) voor €4.50 bij ons in de AH of Gall & Gall €6.50. Maar ja, als je thuis bent is omrijden via Pamplona om bier te halen geen optie.
