Romina Bassu confronts stereotypes of femininity and notions of identity in paintings that feel eerily familiar yet alien. The works—often with women at the center—are painted in queasy pastels and filled with with dark humor. Old photographs and vintage advertisements play an integral part in her process of reproduction and distortion.
