Summers around the world are already warmer than they used to be, and they’re going to get dramatically hotter by century’s end if carbon pollution continues to rise. That problem will be felt most acutely in cities. Therefore, the Fun Run provides the perfect way for you to help stop global warming and help create a better place for your future and the coming generation. The Fun Run “One for Earth” helps raise fund to support eco-friendly products such as organic cosmetics and promotes running, walking and biking instead of vehicles. One for Earth also cares for animals and doesn’t want them to be used for cosmetic products. However, due to global warming, new research finds that in times of drought, the burrowing African animals can’t adapt enough to survive. In fact, out of six Aardvarks tracked through one drought-stricken South African summer, five died as well the eleven others in the area. The skinny bodies of the dead, showing protruding bones, indicated the animals had starved to death due to the drought. On another note, the world’s rapidly growing population coupled with the urban heat island effects which can make cities up to 14 Fahrenheit warmer than there leafy, rural counterparts – add up to a recipe for a dangerous and potentially deadly heat. Dealing with less extreme heat makes adaptation easier and less expensive, and given that choice, perhaps it is no surprise cities are leading the charge on global warming. They face the worst impacts of extreme heat and are home to billions. According to James Hansen, global warming isn’t a prediction, it is happening.
