Finally made it to the first Pokémon Center! I already have a full team (plus Rusper the Fidough in the box) and I feel I haven’t even scratched the surface of this game yet. I want to train them all! I am thinking of maybe having separate teams for each story. Though I have been considering doing a shiny quest for the Pokémon League story (getting a shiny before doing each gym and build up a team with that) and it seems there are ways to boost shiny chances. Guess we’ll see how things pan out!

Today’s historical mystery
The 1907 recording by Vaughan Williams of the song The Turtle Dove/Fare Thee Well says it was sung by David Penfold, the innkeeper of The Plough in Rusper, Sussex.
Now, in 1901, the innkeeper was an Alfred Farley, and it looks like by 1914 he’s moved on to The Fox and Hounds in Picts Hill, and died in 1923 or thereabouts, unless I’m mistaken.
On the 1911 census, the innkeeper for The Plough is John Penfold, not David - there’s no other Penfolds in the entirety of Rusper, in this or the last census, I checked (Woods and Miles are quite common names tho), except him and his wife Emily.
So, either Williams wrote down his name wrong, or John took over The Plough from his probably-brother, David, but I can’t find any record of either of them in the papers of the time.
The pubwiki, which I was hoping to know what’s what, only has details from 1918, from when it was run by Thomas Miles until at least 1938 - tho I spose the pubwiki goes by directory listings, and only has access to the same info I do.
David, according to the youtube video of his singing, was 2 years younger than John, and died in 1939 - and John died in 1921. I spose there’s lots of reasons you’d take over a job from your brother, but I can’t fathom what’s gone on here
In 1881, David ran The Thorns in Horley with his wife Anne and their little daughter Annie - in 1891, he’s listed as a carpenter, and Anne died in 1896 - in 1901, Annie is 15, a barmaid in her uncle William’s pub in Brighton (his pub is called ”Hartington”, and he ran it for at least 6 years) - so I spose they’re a family of barmen and the like
The only David Penfold born around the right time, according to the youtube video, on the 1911 census was a leatherworker from Bermondsey, and had been for the last 30-odd years, and there isn’t at all another one that matches in the least in the whole of England, so I am a bit confused.
There also doesn’t seem to be a family of Penfolds on the 1861 census including John, David and William, when they’d be kids - but then, there’s an acquittal record in 1877 for John, Evelina and Charles Penfold, all together, of “stealing to a value of £19 10s″ - I don’t know if that’s the same John, he’d be 24 then, oh and this one’s 19, it’s not impossible but it’s probably not him. Hm.
Nope, I’m giving up.
Either David only ran The Plough a couple years, ceding to his brother the same, or Vaughan Williams miswrote a name.
