MAJOR SPOILERS FOR SUPER PAPER MARIO AHEAD!
..we clear? Yeah? Okay.
I was just listening to the SPM Ost, and Sammers Kingdom came on.
Whenever I listen to this song, all I can think of are the background sounds. The most audible is a constant, kind of melodic, siren-ish sound.
Now, the whole point of Sammers Kingdom as a world is to show the players how dangerous the void is. Throughout the worlds, you can easily compare and contrast the size of the void in every one of them. When in Sammers Kingdom, it's the largest it would ever be. This is proven by the fact that it gets sucked into said void, leaving it a white ruin, depraved of life.
The sirens are in the background, because it's an actual warning to the civilians of Sammers. And yet there's no escape from it, and everyone perishes.
In the World of Nothing, the music artists use this again as a heart monitor. It goes flatlined at the end of the song. The world is dead. Torn beyond repair.
What I find really sets in, is that the warriors you fight probably *hear* this siren. They know they have to run but instead stay and fight Mario.
And I know this is probably common knowledge at this point, its been actual years and of course this has been analyzed before, but we have to at least recognize how much thought went into this banger of an OST!
Tldr; Sammers Kingdom OST has Sirens in the background to represent a natural disaster and foreshadows the World of Nothing OST where it's a flatline instead.
