Military training

Gaddafi briefly studied History at the University of Libya in Benghazi, before dipping out to join the military. Even with his police record, in 1963 he began training at the Royal Military Academy, Benghazi, flanking some like-minded friends from Misrata. The armed forces obtainable the only chance for aloft social mobility for disadvantaged Libyans, and Gaddafi recognized it as a possible tool of political change. British trainer reported him for disobedience and abusive behavior, stating their suspicion that he was caught up in the elimination of the military academy's leader in 1963. With a group of authentic cadres, in 1964 Gaddafi founded the Central Committee of the Free Officers Movement, a innovative group named after Nasser's Egyptian precursor. In April 1966, he was assigned to the United Kingdom for further training; over 9 months he underwent an English-language course at Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, an Army Air Corps signal instructor’s course in Bovington Camp, Dorset, and an infantry signal instructor’s course at Hythe, Kent. Despite later rumours to the contrary, he did not attend the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Marriage life

Gaddafi wedded his first wife, Fatiha al-Nuri, in 1969. She was the offspring of General Khalid, and senior figure in King Idris' management, and was from a middle-class background. Although they had one son, Muhammad Gaddafi (b. 1970), their connection was strained, and they detached in 1970. Gaddafi's second wife was Safia Farkash, née el-Brasai, a former nurse from Obeidat tribe instinctive in Bayda. They meet in 1969, subsequent his ascension to control, when he was hospitalized with appendicitis; he asserts that it was love at first view.  The couple remained married until his passing away. Together they had seven biological children, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi (b. 1972), Al-Saadi Gaddafi (b. 1973), Mutassim Gaddafi (1974–2011), Hannibal Muammar Gaddafi (b. 1975), Ayesha Gaddafi (b. 1976), Saif al-Arab Gaddafi (1982–2011), and Khamis Gaddafi (1983–2011). He also adopted two children, Hana Gaddafi and Milad Gaddafi.

Prince Alwaleed visits housing beneficiaries in Al-Hayir, distributes 200 cars

RIYADH — Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Alwaleed Philanthropies, visited the Housing Units Project during the last days of Ramadan and distributed 200 cars in celebration of the Eid Al-Fitr.

Prince Alwaleed celebrated Eid Al-Fitr with the residents of Al-Hayir Alwaleed Philanthropies’ Housing Project in Riyadh, as part of the Housing and Cars Initiative. Thousands of eligible Saudi citizens have received housing units in the Al-Hayir district. The latest act brought the number of beneficiaries of the Alwaleed Philanthropies’ Housing and Cars Initiative to 21,000 Saudi citizens.

Upon the prince’s arrival at the location, the people of Al-Hayir gathered around him to express their genuine delight with his visit to share the occasion.

Prince Alwaleed expressed his interest in identifying the living conditions of Al-Hayir residents and their needs that could be met by the Foundation. This was the reason he insister on handing over 200 cars to the beneficiaries in person.

The Foundation seeks to improve the living standards of Saudi citizens through various community development programs. The “Housing and Car Grants” program is one of the most important local programs, as it supports Saudi families with low incomes by helping them reduce their monthly expenses that go toward house rents and transportation.

During the trip, the prince was accompanied by Princess Lamia Bint Majid, member of the Board of Trustees and secretary-general of Alwaleed Philanthropies; Dr. Sheikh Ali Al-Nashwan, member of the Board of Trustees at Alwaleed Philanthropies and religious adviser to the prince; Manal Al-Shammary, senior executive manager at Alwaleed’s private office; Hassan Mukhtar, private affairs manager to the prince; Amal Alkathiri, executive manager for National Initiative, and Safia Alattas, project officer for National Initiative.

Alwaleed Philanthropies is one of the pioneers in housing initiatives where eligible citizens are granted housing assistance. The initiative is a long-term strategic project in partnership with a number of organizations that focus on housing. They ensure the services reach those who deserve them nationwide. The project is executed under the supervision of Princess Lamia and Amal Alkathiri.

For over 37 years, Alwaleed Philanthropies has supported and initiated charitable projects in over 124 countries. It collaborates with a range of philanthropic, governmental, non-governmental and educational organizations to combat poverty, empower women and youth, develop communities, provide disaster relief and create cultural understanding through education regardless of gender, race or religion.
