Chief Minister, Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif's “Transforming Punjab Agriculture Program” will be a game changer for agricultural development and farmers' prosperity. Minister for Agriculture, Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani

Lahore: 17 April:.. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani chaired a high level meeting at Agriculture House Lahore in which the plan related to Punjab Kisan Card and transfer of Agricultural Tube Wells to solar system was finalized.

On the occasion, Minister for Agriculture, Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said that Chief Minister, Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif's “Transforming Punjab Agriculture Program” will prove to be a game changer for agricultural development and farmers' prosperity. 150 billion rupees have been allocated for the provision of interest free loans to 5 lakh farmers, through which 0.150 million rupees will be provided to the farmers (owners/tenants/contractors) for timely purchase of agricultural inputs during one crop season. Under this scheme, 5 to 12.5 acres Farmers who will be provided with farmer-friendly loans. Apart from this, 10 billion rupees have been allocated for the transfer of 5,000 tubewells to solar systems in Punjab. Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani added that after the conversion of these tube wells to solar system, the farmers will get relief from spending on expensive electricity units and their cost of production will come down significantly. Also, under this program, 7,300 water courses will be leveled at a cost of 60 billion rupees in the province during the next two years and laser land levelers will be provided to farmers for leveling the land at a subsidized rate.

On this occasion, Secretary Agriculture, Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that digitalized loans are being provided to the farmers. Under this program the Agriculture Department will play the role of a facilitator and loans will be provided by Bank of Punjab through issued credit card. Keeping in view the available water and other technical reports, the tube wells will be transferred to the solar system. Apart from this, reforms will be introduced in the agricultural research institutes under the Transforming Punjab Agriculture Program.

The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Agriculture Dr. Shahshah Faisal Azim, Additional Secretary Agriculture (Planning) Captain (R) Waqas Rashid, Director General Agriculture Extension Dr. Ishtiaq Hasan, Chief Scientist Ayub Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad Dr. Sajid-ur- Rehman, Director General Agriculture (Water Management) Malik Muhammad Akram, Director General Agriculture Field Engineer Sohail Ahmed, Consultant Agriculture Department Dr. Anjum Ali and Director Agricultural Information, Punjab Naveed Asmat Kahloon and other officers.

A Cake-Walk Win For Pakistan Over Bangladesh 

2nd Test (Day 5) - Pakistan vs Bangladesh - Dhaka 

Pakistan crushed Bangladesh by an innings and eight runs in a clinical performance to win the second and final cricket Test in Dhaka on Wednesday to wrap up the series 2-0.

Continuing from an overnight 76 for 7 after off spinner Sajid Khan left Bangladesh reeling on the previous day, Pakistan got rid of the rest of the home team’s batting in next to no time.

Khan snapped up two more wickets including the scalp of Shakib Al Hasan for 33 to end with 8 for 42 as Bangladesh were dismantled for 87 giving Pakistan a 203-run lead on the first innings that made them enforce the follow-on.

The second innings marked a different scenario for Bangladesh as they lost their first four wickets with just 25 runs on the board with the Pakistan pace duo of Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali doing the damage that made the result imaginable.

The difference overall was that Bangladesh were able to occupy the crease for 84.4 overs compared to 32 overs that Pakistan needed to bowl them out in the first innings.

The middle order pair of Liton Das (45) and Mushfiqur Rahim (48) stood firm after the initial collapse but after taking the total to 98 they parted company when Das became Sajid Khan’s ninth wicket in the match.

With Rahim losing his wicket in a run-out, it marked only a matter of time before Bangladesh caved in towards defeat as Shakib Al Hasan batting for a second time in a day went on to top score with 63 before he was bowled by Khan.

Khan finished with a haul of 12 wickets to take the player of the match award while his team-mate and opening batter Abid Ali was adjudged player of the series for an aggregate of 263 runs from just three innings.

Pakistan also won the first Test in the series that is part of the World Test Championship qualifying round.
