Week 1- SDL Photographer Research.
Wlasta Laura
The first photographer is Wlasta Laura who enjoys exploring hidden symbols, metaphors and narratives, balancing the European and Middle Eastern cultures, and drawing the world of girls and women. I am drawn to her work because of her variety of styles and angles, which convey rich stories behind her series of photos. I admire how she courage in incorporating nudity in a way that contrasts with costume and folk culture without being inappropriate.
Wlasta’s works are unique and inject with her characteristics. She focuses on minority topics and appeals to wide audiences. Overall, her uniqueness and special photographic style are the main reasons I appreciate her work.
Sal Taylor Kydd
The second photographer is Sal Taylor Kydd, a Maine-based photographic artist and writer, who uses various photographic media to create personal narratives that explore themes of memory and belonging. Much of her work features a silver filter and incorporates movement, creating a sense of memories and flashbacks.
Overall, I admire how her style resonates with the concept of memory, adding a layer of mystery and uniqueness to her work.
Tim Walker
The third photographer is Tim Walker, a photographer and filmmaker whose work captivates the readers of Vogue Magazine every month. Extravagant staging and romantic motifs characterise his unmistakable style. His strange and wonderful approach appeals to me, as the combination of props in his works invites audiences to explore and engage with his photos. The photos are well-structured, and his ideas are innovative.
Overall, I admire how Tim presents his photos uniquely and creatively, making his work exceptionally attractive to me.
