𝒱𝒾𝑔𝓃𝑒𝓉𝓉𝑒𝓈 𝑜𝒻 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒮𝑒𝒶𝓈𝑜𝓃
A/N: For @hp-12monthsofmagic’s December prompt (“Merry and Bright”). Made up of two short scenes. Note the discussions of Hanukkah and Judaism may not be the most accurate, so apologies for any missteps.
Tumblr media
One: The O’Donnell-Lee Cottage, County Donegal, Ireland, December 25, 2006
Sara O’Donnell-Lee watched the gentle fall of snow, illuminated in the color of the charmed baubles that floated outside around their cottage. Her eldest son, aged 5, was fast asleep in her lap with her fingers carding through his short red hair. Her eldest daughter, aged 7, was asleep on the floor, clutching the plush moon calf that she had received earlier that day. Sara’s younger two children, aged 2 and 7 months, had been put to bed earlier. The floor was strewn with the remnants of gifts that had been received earlier in the day, the lights on their tree sparkling. A calloused hand ran gently over her shoulder, causing her to look up.
“Happy Christmas, my love,” her husband, Barnaby, said, leaning over to press a kiss onto the top of her head.
“Merry Christmas, Barn,” Sara replied, wrapping her hand tightly around his.
“Was this Christmas everything that you imagined?”
“Yeah, I think it was. Dora and Declan were so excited for everything. I don’t think we’ll ever get this Ireland quidditch sweater off Dec.”
Barnaby laughed, fondly looking down at their son. Sara’s brother, Conor, had gifted their eldest boy an Ireland quidditch sweater, which their boy had quickly fallen in love with. The boy had even put the sweater on over his pajamas.
“It was a good Christmas, Barnaby. Everything about it this year was good. Actually, I’m surprised at how smoothly this all went,” Sara said.
“Yeah. I thought it would be a lot more stressful with four. Brendan’s so laid back though,” Barnaby replied.
“I hope you liked your gifts.”
“Those gloves are absolutely incredible. They’ll be so helpful in the cold. I love them, Sara. I really do. What about you?”
“The necklace is beautiful, Barn. I don’t know where you thought of the idea, but I absolutely adore it. Same with the little ornament with all six of our names on them.”
Tumblr media
Two: The O’Donnell-Lyman Home, December 24, 2016
“Momma, why do we light all these candles?” Naomi O’Donnell, aged 7, asked, leaning over the kitchen table, watching as Ruth worked on setting out on the different candles.
“The purple and pink candles are for advent. That’s for the lead-up to Christmas. Dad can explain those better than me. The blue ones and white one are for Hanukkah, which is what my family celebrates,” Ruth explained.
“I like Hanukkah. The food is so fun and good,” Naomi replied.
“Yeah, Hanukkah has good food. We celebrate that because I’m Jewish, just like we have other traditions and holidays than Dad.”
“What’s Daddy, then?”
“Dad’s Catholic, so he has different holidays than I do.”
“Why?”
“Well, we have different beliefs from religions. For Dad, his religion says that Jesus is the son of God and very important. My religion doesn’t believe that. Only God is important, while Jesus isn’t very important and can be seen as hard to understand.”
“What do I believe?” Naomi asked.
“You can believe whatever you want to, Naomi. Dad and I don’t have any one way we want you or your brothers to believe. That’s why we celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas, Passover and Easter. We get to cover the important parts of each culture.”
“Oh. Is that why we eat certain things sometimes?”
“Yeah, that’s right kiddo.”
The door to the kitchen opened, bringing with it a burst of cold air. Stamping feet immediately followed as Ruth looked up to her husband and two sons. Snow clung to their hair and Conor had taken off his glasses to wipe away the fog.
“Got the potatoes you asked for,” Conor announced, lifting up a big bag.
“Conor, how many potatoes did you get?” Ruth asked.
A sheepish look appeared on Conor’s face. “Five pounds.”

Note
I can’t get over how horrible sunny and Sara on the view were to Kate! Even more shocking since they are always so factual
I have never watched The View so I have no idea what the ladies have said.
I tried watching back in the Rosie O'Donnell/Elizabeth Hasselbeck era (my college roommate loved watching it) but I couldn't get over all the bickering. Too much for me.

The Judy Spots is a collection of five short videos, debuted on MTV. Through the paper-maché, teenage girl puppet Judy, voiced by Kathleen Hanna, The Judy Spots discusses feelings of alienation (Judy Feels Sad), service industry and consumerization (Judy Hates Her Job), nightmares and trauma (Judy Has A Nightmare), divorce (Judy Goes To The Mall), and friendship (Judy Gets Mad).
Directed and created by Sadie Benning, producer Elisabeth Subrin, gaffer Matthew Buckingham, puppet construction by Clare Dolan, costume design by Sara O'Donnel, and set by Sadie, Matthew, Elisabath, and Anne Kugler. Soundtrack by Kathleen Hanna and Azalia Snail, with voice-overs by Kathleen (Judy) and Sadie (Courtney).
Sadie Benning (they/them) is an American artist and director whose work primarily consist of what they describe as "video diaries" shot on a PixelVision camera. They began their work at age 15 and by age 19, had shown their videos at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Sundance Institute, and at international film festivals. Benning, a lesbian, often discusses sexuality, gender, and feelings of isolation, among other themes in their work. Many of Benning's early videos feature Bikini Kill and riot grrrl songs. Benning is also a co-founder of feminist electronic rock band, Le Tigre, having left the band in 2000 and replaced by JD Samson.

HPHM OC Profile: Calliope Black
"No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world."
Name: Calliope Antigone Black
Nicknames: Callie
Birthdate: October 31st, 1972
Zodiac Sign: Scorpio
Blood Status: Pureblood
Nationality: British
Sexuality: Bisexual
Callie is not the MC, she's just an OC that attends Hogwarts at the same time as Jacob's Sibling! She's open for friendships and rivalries, etc.
Physical Appearance
Tumblr media
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Blue
Height: 1.60cm (5 ft 3½)
Weight: 53kg
Skin Tone: Fair
Faceclaim: India Eisley
Background
Home: Raven Hall, a modest (by rich people standards) property owned by the Black family in rural England
Family
Mother: Cressida Black, née Rowle
Cressida is a Slytherin alumni. She works at the Wizengamot and leads a seemingly successful life. On the inside, she's struggling though. She's not happy with her life and her unhappiness is affecting her relationship with her daughter. She loves Callie but is misguided in her efforts to make her choices for her and attempt to keep her in line.
Tumblr media
Father: Castor Black, the younger brother of Orion Black
Castor attended Hogwarts as a Slytherin. He's unlike most of his family members in that he is softer and less likely to spout blood-purist rhetoric. However, he is not close with his daughter and his marriage to Cressida is facing some difficulties. He has constantly lived in the shadow of his older brother and doesn't know how to stand up to him.
Tumblr media
Uncle: Orion Black
Tumblr media
Cousins: Sirius Black, Regulus Black, Bellatrix Lestrange, Andromeda Tonks, Narcissa Malfoy
Hogwarts
House: Ravenclaw (hat stall with Slytherin)
Career
11-17: Hogwarts Student
17->: tbd
Personality & Attitude
Callie is the quiet sort who prefers the company of books to people. She doesn't go out of her way to make friends and can often seem cold or even rude to people who don't know her, but she's quite friendly once you manage to break through her surface. Deep down, she feels very alone due to her parents being distant and being an only child. She struggles with creating meaningful connections but craves them deeply.
She responds best to speaking of common interests, like books or music. She's a little bit clueless about the Muggle world and finds learning about Muggle culture fascinating. Callie is creative and sometimes scribbles poetry in the margins of her essays or in little notebooks. She doesn't have ambitions to become a poet as a fulltime job, though.
Priorities: Friends, gaining knowledge, independence
Strengths: Clever, works well under pressure, loyal to loved ones
Weaknesses: A bit of a loner, a penchant for melancholy, can come off as rude
Stressed: When dealing with her family or studying for exams
Calm/Comforted: With her friends and in the library
Favorites
Colors: Black
Weather: Rain
Hobbies: Reading, writing poetry, Wizard chess
Fashion: Business casual, blacks and grays, some grunge vibes
Relationships
Significant Other/Love Interest: Talbott Winger
Callie and Talbott have been house mates since year one, but they only really started to speak during year 4, when Callie got her pet owl Orpheus and started to spend time in the Owlery. They both enjoy a comfortable silence and the quiet comfort of each others' company.
The two started dating during year 6. They were together until graduation, after which they broke up for a while but reconnected during the Second Wizarding War. They married and have one daughter together.

𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐥
A/N: For @hp-12monthsofmagic’s August prompt (“School’s out for the summer”). Set in June 1991.
Tumblr media
The setting sun painted the sky with reds, purples, oranges, and yellows as it sank beneath the horizon and the edge of the Black Lake, marking the close of yet another year at Hogwarts. And for the cast of seventh years, it marked the final sunset that they would enjoy while students. Sara O’Donnell had never quite believed that she and her siblings would make it to that day. Their older brother hadn’t and the quadruplets had been sucked into the same mystery that their older brother had been.
“We made it,” her brother, Ryan, announced.
“I wasn’t sure that we would m-make it,” her other brother, Conor, mused.
Ryan let out a snort of laughter, throwing one arm around Conor’s shoulders and the other around their sister, Cara’s shoulders.
“But we made it, and all in one piece,” Cara responded.
“Not all of our friends made it, though,” Sara muttered, not trying to bring the mood down but it was in moments like this that Ash Khanna’s absence could be felt so acutely. It was obvious with the way that all of their friends were gathered around the bonfire at the opposite end of the lakeshore.
“Yeah,” Ryan echoed. “But, we can’t change the past.”
“No, we can’t.”
“We’re getting melancholy here, guys. For as much sadness as there was, there were some great times. I mean, at least one of us found a spouse,” Cara responded, elbowing Sara in the stomach. In turn, Sara’s face turned bright red as she found the shadowy form of Barnaby Lee. They’d been together for two years now, since the end of OWLs.
“Maybe so, but I’m not ready to think about marriage yet.”
“God, we’re n-n-not even eighteen y-y-yet,” Conor responded.
“Yeah. I don’t want to get engaged until I’m at least 21. And anyways, I’m not the one off to university in the fall,” Sara said, turning to face her younger brother.
Conor grinned sheepishly, but didn’t say anything as he ducked his head bashfully. It had taken a lot of convincing to get Conor to even consider applying for university to study architecture. He had taken multiple correspondence courses over the summers, in math and physics and whatever else was needed to even be eligible for an architecture university program. But, the O’Donnells supported one another. It was what they did. It was how they convinced Conor to follow his dream and how they convinced Cara to pursue her interests in art.
“Hey! O’Donnells! Are you going to join us or just be sadly sentimental over there?” Charlie Weasley called, as he jogged down from the beach.
“Like you wouldn’t be the exact same way,” Ryan retorted.
“Yeah, yeah. Come join us anyways.”
“We’re coming.”
Sara shook her head, but followed Charlie and her siblings to join the rest of their friends. She dropped down onto one of the logs next to Barnaby, who draped an arm across her shoulders. The yellows and reds of the fire flickered across everyone’s faces.
“We’ll stay in touch, right?” Penny Haywood asked, looking across at everyone.
“Yeah. We’ll try,” Sara responded.
“Well, Winger and I will both be entering auror training and I expect to see Sara at the hospital,” Nymphadora Tonks announced, grinning at Talbott Winger, who sat alone.
“Barnaby and I are going to be undergoing magiozoology training together,” Liz Tuttle added.
“And Barnaby will be living with Conor and myself in Dublin,” Sara responded, grinning at her boyfriend.
“Yep,” Barnaby agreed.
“We’ll do our best, but life acts in funny ways. We’ll drift apart and come back together,” Cara mused, sounding like Hufflepuff’s former quidditch captain, Orion Amari.
“To coming together again,” Penny echoed, holding up her glass.
“Slainte!” Ryan cheered back.

WITCHCRAFT
1st Wand: Aspen, Unicorn Hair, 12 inches, reasonably supple
Wand-quality aspen wood is white and fine-grained, and highly prized by all wand-makers for its stylish resemblance to ivory and its usually outstanding charmwork. The proper owner of the aspen wand is often an accomplished duellist, or destined to be so, for the aspen wand is one of those particularly suited to martial magic. Aspen wand owners are generally strong-minded and determined, more likely than most to be attracted by quests and new orders; this is a wand for revolutionaries.
2nd Wand: Red Oak, Unicorn hair, 11 inches, solid
You will often hear the ignorant say that red oak is an infallible sign of its owner’s hot temper. In fact, the true match for a red oak wand is possessed of unusually fast reactions, making it a perfect duelling wand.
Animagus Form: orange cat/european shorthair
Patronus: kneazle
Boggart: Jacob (later Rowan) saying she is cursed and blaming her for not being able to save their loved ones
Riddikulus: she listens to what they have to say instead of casting the spell

[Narnia AU] Lord Orion, Envoy of Cair Paravel, and Carewyn Oceanborn, General of Archenland Moodboard
Once, in the past, in a world of fantasies somehow more real than our own, there was a land called Narnia. This land had been ruled for over a century by a line of conqueror kings from the land of Telmar, all called “Caspian,” until the tenth of that name -- the one called Caspian Talbott, or simply “Talbott” -- took the throne. The thirteen-year-old prince overthrew his wicked uncle, the Usurper King Miraz, with the aid of Narnia’s Kings and Queens of Old -- the High King Ryan, Queen Cara, Queen Sara, and King Conor @unfortunate-arrow -- and promised to bring peace back to the land and give the Narnians subjugated and terrorized by his uncle the freedom and safety they were owed, as his subjects. To do that, though, he would need allies, and on the advice of his old tutor, Dr. Filius Flitwick, Talbott arranged an envoy to Archenland, so as to rendezvous with King Arthur, Father of Seven, in their capitol city of Anvard.
Among Talbott’s delegation was a slightly older boy who had once worked in the palace under his uncle, only to be sent away when he recited old poems about Aslan and fallen stars. This boy -- now one of King Caspian Talbott’s chief advisors, Lord Orion, Envoy of Cair Paravel -- was only five years the King’s senior when he first accompanied him to Archenland. He was thus only eighteen when he first collided with the fresh-faced young General of the nation’s army, Carewyn Oceanborn. None of the humans in the Narnian delegation quite understood why the Talking Beasts called the General “the Witch of Archenland” until they met her in person. The lady had a beautiful, pale, mask-like face, framed by long tresses of scarlet hair and decked with unreadable light blue eyes -- a face almost eerily similar to the illustrations made of the White Witch who enslaved Narnia in a hundred year winter.
Despite Talbott and the rest of his delegation’s trepidation toward the female general, however, Orion did not seem concerned.
“Lest we forget, my lords, that the Valiant Queen Cara herself likewise had hair like a lion’s mane, and blue eyes besides,” he pointed out. “Even King Arthur and his family share her coloring, though with far rosier and sun-kissed complexions. All the General’s look signifies is that she possesses remarkable power -- evident not just by her stature, but by the title she’s earned. There’s nothing yet to signify that she means us harm.”
Carewyn Oceanborn, however, did not make herself easy to trust, at the start -- largely because she did not trust the Narnian delegation as far as she could throw them. And for as amiable as Arthur was, he seemed to greatly value her opinion.
“Forgive me, King Caspian,” she’d said very coolly at one meeting, “but you ask for Archenland’s friendship when you have done little except endear your own countrymen to you. An admirable thing, given that your subjects are those your own father subjugated...but that amount of honor on your part should not be enough to earn our unequivocal trust, on its own.”
“Do you question the King’s honor?” the brave Mouse called Reepicheep challenged her. “And when it was your country that failed to show ours friendship, whenst we were first invaded?”
“Narnia had already neglected to maintain that friendship with Archenland for almost a hundred years prior, Master Mouse,” Carewyn said lowly. “I see little reason for our land to give yours anything, solely based on faith that that gift will be reciprocated.”
Orion raised his eyebrows. “We are only mere mortals, General. What do any of us truly have, if not faith?”
Carewyn turned to him, her face very stoic but her light blue eyes full of conviction. “Love, Ambassador -- and the courage, fortitude, and determination needed to defend what we love.”
Orion blinked in slight surprise. He hadn’t fully expected to get an answer, let alone such a noble one. It made him smile despite himself.
“...Verily, that is so. All the more reason, I’d say, for us to fight as one, for our goals are the same.”
“But they are not, Ambassador.”
“How so?”
“I love the men in my army -- their home, their families. I love my king, his family, and this country that has welcomed me into their ranks with open arms and hearts.” Her eyes narrowed ever-so-slightly. “And I shall protect them, whatever it takes -- including making sure that they’re not bled dry by those who seek to take advantage of their generosity, just to secure their own position.”
“That’s not our intention,” Talbott said very sternly. “As much as I understand your mistrust, General, what Orion says is true -- our goal is ultimately the same, for we also wish happiness and safety for our subjects. If you truly admire King Arthur for welcoming you with an open heart, it seems like it’d be wise to follow his example.”
Carewyn cocked her eyebrows. “I’d say what’s wise is not just trusting whatever someone tells you.”
Talbott’s lips came together tightly. Truthfully he himself tended to reflect that sentiment, so he didn’t know how best to argue against it.
King Arthur’s eldest son, William, brought a hand onto Carewyn’s shoulder, giving her an indulgent, almost incredulous look.
“Now, Carey, really,” the Prince looked from her to Talbott with a smile. “King Caspian’s clearly sincere. Is there nothing he could say, to reassure you?”
“I swear, by Aslan’s Mane, I only seek peace between our lands,” said Talbott solemnly. “That’s all.”
This seemed to placate King Arthur and his family. Carewyn was unmoved, but did not argue the point further. Instead she merely fixed the Narnian delegation with a very hard look before turning away and crossing her arms stoically.
With Archenland and Narnia allied once more, Talbott ventured next on to his family’s once home, Telmar, to mend ties with them. Orion and the badger called Trufflehunter remained in Anvard for a few days more, so as to finalize the arrangements between the two nations on Talbott’s behalf, and the royal family -- King Arthur, Queen Margaret, and their six ginger-haired sons -- treated him like an honored guest. Carewyn did not -- but to Orion’s surprise, she was not a rude or thoughtless host. She did her fair share of serving both Orion and Trufflehunter at mealtimes and even made sure Orion’s horse was tended to properly, for the length of their visit.
“I may not trust you, Ambassador, but I will not treat you inhumanely,” said Carewyn over dinner the night before their departure. “Moreover, King Arthur has named you his guests, and our country’s allies, besides.”
Orion’s black eyes sparkled mischievously. “So you’ve placed your faith in your King, since you can’t do so for us.”
Carewyn’s eyes drifted off vaguely in the direction of the open door leading to the hall. “Well, naturally. I’ve already seen the King’s loyalty first-hand -- why wouldn’t I place my faith in that, over a loyalty that’s only thus far been expressed through words?”
She picked up her skirts and made as if to rise from her seat. When she did so, however, she found her chair being pulled out for her -- for while she was speaking, Orion had rather swiftly and silently gotten up from his own chair and come up behind hers, so as to help her.
Carewyn looked over her shoulder, her gaze piercing in its surprise, but Orion merely smiled, his eyes twinkling like stars.
“I’d say there are many things that are real that one cannot see,” he said amusedly. “You didn’t see me behind you, yet it doesn’t make my presence any less true.”
Carewyn’s eyes narrowed. “Yet I can still see you, when I turn around.”
“Do you only believe that which you can see, General?”
“Yes, I do.” The answer was very matter-of-fact.
“And yet you believe in courage -- determination -- love. All things you cannot hold or see.”
Carewyn smiled wryly.
“On the contrary, Ambassador,” she said in an oddly warm voice, “I can. I see them every day, in the eyes of the people of Archenland. I see the courage of men facing battle with no promise of seeing home again -- the determination to face whatever hardship is thrown at them, all out of the love they feel for others and the desire to see home again.”
Orion’s black eyes became very unreadable as he considered the General. Trufflehunter tilted his head curiously.
“You have such admiration for your fellow Man, General,” said the badger, “it quite perplexes me that you show so much contempt toward those Men who don’t share your nation’s flag. After all, Archenland is part of the Narnian Empire -- it was once part of Narnia itself.”
Carewyn looked at the badger, her light blue eyes a bit softer than previously.
“I truly do not think ill of you Narnians, Master Badger -- nor even of your King, Telmarine he may be. You don’t seem to be wicked sorts. But just because two people are good does not mean that they must be friends, nor should they be...especially when one nation has spent a lot of its history constantly taking that friendship for granted. Archenland broke away from Narnia years ago -- it has its own culture, its own customs, and its own laws, and it’s largely been able to maintain peace internally, even while Narnia’s government has time and again fallen into chaos and we have suffered financially as a result. We’ve provided you aid in the past -- some of our own even held the throne of Narnia, before Caspian the Conqueror arrived. Yet it seems that your land has difficulty accepting leadership from anyone devoid of what you see as ‘divine right.’ Even now, you only came together to fight Miraz because the ‘true heir’ decided to stand up to him. I’m glad for it, mind you -- Miraz was a cruel man and a wretched excuse for a king. But I believe that one’s ability and dedication far outranks how one is born or what future is prophesized for them.”
Orion’s black eyes were locked on Carewyn’s eyes, almost drowning in them. Carewyn almost seemed to have difficulty holding his gaze, it was so intense, and yet she tried to, not wanting to appear lacking in conviction.
“I may take it, then,” he said softly, “since you only believe in what you’ve seen, that you do not believe in Aslan?”
Carewyn straightened up, bringing her hands behind her back like a soldier. “I’m afraid I’ve never met a Talking Lion, nor that one specifically. I agree with some of what he preaches, though. Compassion. Forgiveness. Mercy. The power of sacrifice, even done for those who may not wholly deserve it.”
“And what is it that you don’t agree with?”
Carewyn moved back away from her chair at last, her gaze still locked on Orion’s.
“The notion that one must constantly prove themselves to Him, and yet never ask for any sort of proof in return. How can anyone expect trust from someone, when they clearly don’t trust you?”
Orion’s eyes softened almost sadly. “Such is the conundrum of faith, I should think. Believing even when all logic says you shouldn’t.”
“Yet when someone believes in a Man that way, it can bring about nothing but pain,” said Carewyn. “Waiting for things to improve, for him to change, for him to learn better. Waiting for him to prove the nay-sayers wrong, to be what you envision him to be, rather than what he is. Waiting for love and approval that will never come.”
“But that love is already there!” argued Trufflehunter. “However mysterious and powerful Aslan is, his love is unconditional. And since His love is there, we needn’t wait for it. We just have to open our hearts to it, and see it for what it is.”
Carewyn looked at the badger with something oddly like pity. “If you have felt the Lion’s love, Master Badger, then I’m glad for you. But I have seen the pain that can come about when someone puts their faith in the wrong person, and I don’t want that to happen again.”
The General turned her back to them.
“Please excuse me -- I have military matters to attend to. Please, enjoy the rest of your meal. You have a long journey ahead of you tomorrow, to return home.”
When Orion and Trufflehunter arrived back in Narnia a few days later, Talbott and the rest of his council were already there, a treaty with Telmar in hand. It was fortunate -- for soon after, the Giants to the North decided to lash out against Narnia’s border. Talbott called on his new allies to help his army beat back the threat, and Telmar and Archenland both answered the call. Yes, even Carewyn Oceanborn, the General of Archenland’s army -- for although she did not wholly trust Narnia’s new King or see him or his subjects as any sort of friends, she was loyal enough to her King and noble enough of spirit to not be the sort to stand by when people were in trouble. And when the Narnians first saw the “Witch of Archenland” on the battlefield, they saw why such a small, seemingly delicate lady was their General, for she led the charge with such courage and encouraged her troops with such stirring words that it cast a spell on all those who heard it.
“Hear me, Archenlanders -- Narnians -- Telmarines! Do you hear doubt in my voice, or lack of resolve? See me! Do you see hesitation on my face? No -- for there is none! However much fear we may feel, and however steep the odds are against us, I shall not cower -- for I know that I am surrounded by Men, and Centaurs, and Beasts, and Fauns, and more, that love as strongly as I do...that love their land, their friends, and their family as much as I! Take heart, my comrades-in-arms -- for in that heart, you’ll find your courage! For Archenland! For Telmar! For Narnia!”
With Narnia’s King Caspian Talbott, Telmar’s Crown Prince Felix, and Archenland’s Prince William and General Carewyn in the lead, the Giants were beaten back, retreating to the Wild North. The conflict brought the three nations closer, renewing good faith between their Kings. And over the next three years, Talbott worked to rebuild Narnia’s navy, so as to reach out to those islands that his ancestors had so neglected to maintain relations with. Orion also visited both Telmar and Archenland several more times, and each time he visited Archenland, he was pleased to find himself challenged by its faithless, yet fearless General. Many a day Orion spent at the court of Archenland involved verbally sparring with Carewyn, in a friendly joust of wit.
“Do you always dodge direct questions, Master Orion,” said Carewyn one day, “or do you merely find entertainment in frustrating people?”
Orion grinned. “Do you mean to say I frustrate you?”
“Not particularly.”
“Then I could hardly find such entertainment,” said Orion amusedly.
“Yet you seem to be very entertained by this line of conversation all the same,” Carewyn pointed out. “Why is that?”
Orion’s black eyes twinkled. “Why, indeed...”
Carewyn sighed. “And once again, you dodge a question that should have a very straight-forward answer...”
Despite saying this, though, she couldn’t completely fight back a smile.
By the year of 2306, Narnia knew enough order and peace that Talbott felt assured that his nation could endure his absence for a short time. And so he set about heading out to sea, seeking out the Seven Lords and Ladies of Telmar who had once been his father’s closest confidantes -- Lady McGonagall, Lord Quirrell, Lord Lockhart, Lord Moody, Lady Trelawney, Lady Sprout, and Lady Sinistra. The sea voyage was not just a rescue mission, but also done for the sake of diplomacy, as it would allow Talbott to check on the islands that his ancestors had neglected for so long, such as Narnia’s old ally from the Golden Era, Terebinthia, and Narnia’s neglected territory in the Lone Islands. And while he was away, Talbott left Orion in charge, knowing the Envoy of Cair Paravel would prioritize peace and diplomacy in his absence. It was a responsibility Orion took on with astounding grace, even despite the risk -- for, like many Telmarines, Orion had been raised to fear the sea and knew full well how very long it might be before he saw his King again.
“May Fate and Aslan protect you, your Majesty.”
Not long after Talbott’s departure, however, Orion started having bad dreams. Many involved falling a great distance, through pitch darkness -- still others involved a strange island cloaked all in blackness -- another still involved scarlet eyes, claw-like hands, and endless black ocean waves. But the one that troubled Orion most depicted a small girl with ginger hair and big brown eyes, her freckled face as white as a sheet as she pounded hopelessly against a prison door with her fist.
“Help! Someone, help! Please -- !”
The girl’s pleas were so fragile and desperate that the nightmare would often make Orion leap awake, breathing heavily and his heartrate spiking with anxiety. This nightmare appeared to Orion for several nights, before he finally worked up the courage to try to answer the girl.
“Where are you?” he tried to ask. “Who are you?”
If the girl heard him, any response she could’ve made was impossible to make out, for Orion’s ears were assaulted with a rushing of wind and the image of her in Orion’s mind seemed to be instantly blotted out, like ink splattering over a beautiful illustration. And yet, all at once, the wind had become like a storm, and then like a warm, yet rumbling voice.
“Venture into the Dark of Nightmares, Starchild. It is there that you shall find her.”
The instructions were so effortlessly strong and powerful that they were like a lion’s roar -- one so terrifying that Orion awoke with a start, his face very pale and his heart racing. And sure enough, a mere couple of seconds after awaking, a knock sounded on his door -- an envoy from Archenland had arrived unexpectedly.
When Orion arrived in the newly rebuilt hall at Cair Paravel, he found General Carewyn and six hooded figures all seated around the table speaking to Trumpkin and Trufflehunter. Orion’s entrance made everyone look up, including Carewyn, whose eyes Orion met first.
“General,” he greeted.
Carewyn inclined her head to him. “Master Orion -- or should I call you ‘Lord Steward,’ in King Caspian’s absence?”
“My title may change, but my name has not,” said Orion. “Thus I would prefer 'Orion,’ over any of them.”
Orion gave her a formal bow before striding over to the empty place at the table, just between Trufflehunter and Trumpkin.
“I must ask, though, what’s the nature of this unexpected visit?”
“A request for supplies alone,” Carewyn said simply. “We have our ship docked in the harbor of Cair Paravel -- food and water for an ocean voyage is all we require.”
Trumpkin raised an eyebrow. “Awfully presumptuous, aren’t you, to stride on in here requesting a boon with no explanation? I see no crown of Archenland upon your head. All I see with you is an army of suspicious hooded cloaks -- ”
“If payment is what you wish, Master Dwarf, then name your price,” Carewyn said harshly. “We are not a charity case.”
The cloaked figure on her left brought a hand up onto her shoulder and gave it a squeeze. She glanced at him briefly before speaking again more levelly.
“...This is a secret mission, ordained by his Highness, Prince William,” she said. She held out a scroll bearing the red and yellow royal seal of Archenland. “If visible proof of this is what you require, then here you are.”
“Ordained by the Prince, but not the King who is our ally?” said Trufflehunter in concern. “Forgive me, General...but my mind is ill at ease, at this. It is King Arthur whom our King has signed a treaty with -- I do not think King Caspian has any intention of going back on his word with a man who he’s recently named an ally.”
“And yet William is also your ally,” said Carewyn, her voice becoming a bit harder. “Did he not help lead your armies, against the Giants of the North?”
Trumpkin’s lips knit together very tightly, but before he could respond, Carewyn cut him off.
“I understand your distrust, but I’m sorry, this mission is too important, for us to delay in it. However much his Majesty may not approve of it now, any anger or worry he has in the short-term is what we’ll have to face, in order to complete it. I do not ask you to assist me or my party in our mission, aside from selling us the wares we need to sail. You needn’t play any party to this -- plead ignorance to the King of what our purpose was, and it would be the truth.”
Trumpkin couldn’t fight back a single cold laugh. “Whispers and whiskers -- so you ask us to simply show blind faith in you? Seems awfully hypocritical of you, General -- ”
“Peace, Trumpkin,” Orion said quietly.
He fixed Carewyn with a very piercing, unreadable look. It made her once again want to look away, but she didn’t dare, for fear of looking like she was backing down. After a moment, Orion spoke very softly.
“I do not believe your motives are selfish, General -- nor do I believe that you’ve told us anything but the truth, in so much as you will trust us with it. For you to work against the King who has shown you such kindness, I can’t help but think it must be for some higher purpose that benefits all, your King included. Yet it comes from someone with little faith in what cannot be seen. Therefore...I can only think that this secrecy is being done out of the purest love...even though I would think that secrecy is rather counterproductive to expressing love, myself.”
He looked from the cloaked figure to Carewyn’s left very briefly before returning his focus to Carewyn.
“...I’m afraid I must side with Trumpkin, this once,” he said at last, as he picked up the scroll bearing the Prince’s seal and tucked it into his robes. “I believe you once said that it isn’t wise to just take one’s word as the truth, General. Perhaps if Prince William were to explain himself, all of our minds might be put at ease.”
He turned to the cloaked figure seated to Carewyn’s left pointedly. Trumpkin and Trufflehunter were visibly startled, as were the other cloaked men around the table. The man paused for a moment, before raising his black-gloved hands and slowly lowering his hood to reveal the handsome, freckled face of Prince William.
“It’s my sister, Ambassador,” he said, his voice both very solemn and soft. “She’s being held prisoner by the Lord of Terebinthia.”

Kind of cheating here but can I just say, I love the O'Donnell quads.
They’re a great depiction of siblings with all their little quirks, similarities and differences. Sometimes there are arguments but at the end of the day they love each other. Plus I like that they all have a complex relationship with their version of Jacob. On top of the intricate family history that you’ve clearly put a lot of thought into.

you got it! thanks for requesting!
happy valentine’s day! 💗✨
*please note, i did not have time to edit*

Barnaby sits quietly at his table, his lips sewn together tight. His nerves, however, remain frayed. Below the table, his leg bounces incessantly, his teeth digging into his bottom lip, and his hands playing with the silver ring on his index finger.
He checks the time on his watch, but he realizes there’s no point when he puts it back down to his side without actually having remembered what he saw.
Rationally, Barnaby knows he has no reason to feel this anxious. Valentine’s Day has always been one of his favorite holidays and his mind had been racing since New Year’s trying to come up with the best gift to give to Sara. It had been weeks ago when the thought to ask her siblings for help finally came to him. He had wanted to do it on his own, but he realized quickly that he would not let his pride supersede his desire to get her gift just right.
However, rationally speaking, Barnaby has never been the best at thinking rationally.
Still, as the entrance to the Three Broomsticks jingles pleasantly and Sara steps inside, a smile on her face and her cheeks and nose a cute rosy pink, Barnaby clutches the ring tighter in his hand.
Sara’s grin only widens as she makes her way over to their table, carefully unfolding the pink scarf from around her neck. “I’m so sorry I’m late,” She huffs as she sits down in front of him, keeping her jacket on as she rubs her hands together. “I wanted to finish up my charms homework early to clear the rest of the weekend and lost track of the time.”
Barnaby thinks back to moments ago. Yeah, he knows the feeling.
“It’s okay,” He shakes his head, a smile of his own cracking his lips apart though his anxiety makes it slightly harder than usual. “I haven’t been waiting long.”
Her blue eyes hesitate for a second, clearly catching the fleeting shake of his voice, but decides to ignore it in favor of reaching an arm across the table. Barnaby’s smile comes quicker this time and he mirrors her action to hold her hand. The iciness of her fingers don’t even bother him!
They stay like this for a moment, before Barnaby remembers himself and blinks out of his reverie.
Around them, patrons cheer and giggle, the romantic spirit of the holiday in the air. Quite literally, even, as Barnaby’s sure he smelt some variation of love potion when he stepped in the door. This, of course though, does not account for the amorous decorations strewn (rather tastefully) around the tavern. Banners and flowers and candles galore! It truly does make for a beautiful scene.
Though, not as beautiful as the one in front of him.
“So,” Barnaby starts, his voice cracking slightly already and he does his best not to wince at the sound. “I know we said no gifts, but.....”
“Barnaby!” Sara sighs, pouting a little, her tone somewhere between fond and reprimand. “You didn’t....”
“I did.”
The corners of her lips twitch as if they want to frown, but are simply not in the right state of mind to manage. It gives his courage a bit of a boost.
“Don’t worry! It’s nothing extravagant,” He assures, knowing it’s fairly likely she wouldn’t have accepted it if it were without gifting him something back. “But I did ask your siblings for advice since I’m not exactly an expert in this sort of thing and I wouldn’t have even known where to go for—”
Sara’s hand squeezes his tightly and Barnaby blushes, catching himself ranting.
“—Sorry,” She merely shakes her head, allowing him to continue. “Anyway, uh, here. I hope you like it.”
With a deep breath, Barnaby reaches up to drop the ring delicately into her open palm. Her eyes flick up to him in brief surprise before turning it over between her fingers, examining the thing with care. The Slytherin gulps, unable to take his eyes off the small piece of golden jewelry in her hand.
It’s a simple enough accessory. A heart in the front, a small crown on top of it, and the band wrapping around to connect on either side of the heart in the vague shape of hands. It was pretty, Barnaby mused, and he thought Sara would like it given that she had mentioned it once before.
“Barnaby...” Sara whispered, so quiet he had to strain to hear even from directly in front of her. “You got me a claddagh.”
“To be fair, I wasn’t exactly sure what it was when I heard about it, but...I figured you would’ve. Plus, the, uh, the symbolism I think fits us well! At least from what I heard anywa—”
“I love it, Barnaby.” Sara smiles and this time it’s softer around the edges, enamored. It makes his chest swell with pride and warmth.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Sara.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day.”
