#Saturn Awards chatter

Have you seen the nasty attacks on Cait from Sam's fans after she won The Saturn Award while he didn't? What's your opinion on this?
Thanks for asking for my opinion, Anon. 😃
Wait a minute… nasty attacks? That makes NO sense.
Tumblr media
Why would anyone attack Caitríona for winning the 2024 Saturn Award for Best Actress in a Television Series? She won the same award in 2021, and in 2015 and 2016, she won Best Actress on Television, and was nominated for best actress four other times.
Sam was nominated for the 2024 Best Actor in a Television Series award. He’s been nominated eight times, winning in 2019. Interestingly, he was nominated as a supporting actor in 2015.
All their combined 16 nominations were for Outlander. The show itself won 2024’s Best Action/Adventure/Thriller Television Series, one of the eight “show” categories.
The 2024 Saturn Awards offered 11 acting awards: five for film, six for television (Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Younger Performer, and only in the TV category, Featured Guest Star).
Neither Caitríona nor Sam would qualify as supporting, younger, or guest star. Caitríona would not qualify for actor; Sam would not qualify for actress. Duh.
So why would anyone attack Caitríona for winning an award for which Sam could not, would not qualify?
Tumblr media
Are you thinking I missed your point, Anon? 😂 I didn’t.
Yes, I saw chatter and whingeing on Tumblr and other sites. I’m aware some people said nasty things. I’m reminded of a child’s birthday party where a non-birthday sibling throws a tantrum when the birthday sibling opens a particular gift.
“Why does she get Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes LEGO and I get nothing?! 😫”
I think comparing apples to oranges never makes sense. I think both nominations and wins deserve recognition. I think tearing down one person to build up another person is childish and shortsighted.
I think the people involved in these conversations care a lot more about the Saturn Awards than either Caitríona or Sam does.

I joined the fandom during season 4, so ive never experienced a hiatus lol. but what other promotion do u think we'll be getting in the next month? and when?
This is really my first fandom (not that I didn’t fangirl, just that I wasn’t involved with fandom,) so I’m never the best person to talk about how fandom functions with that kind of stuff in general.
BUT this hiatus has been longer than all the others. Our seasons have never been regular. We were supposed to get all this stuff earlier before they delayed our season premiere. People were so angry at them for not marketing, but I have to say, I think they made the right decisions, because how many views on facebook? It was 9 million last time  I looked, after 3 days. Trending on twitter, youtube and tumblr. Nominated for a Saturn award. More excellent reviews and articles about being a sleeper cult scifi show.
Dudes. Is it just me or is this all really really good and a sign of a gain that we did not have before. Someone who’s better at hollywood and ratings needs to explore this.
BUT again, there are a few marketing things that they’ve been holding onto.
So, we got, finally, the trailer. Then conageddon. (which was the best for us bellarkers probably not that important for general marketing.)
Still to come is Wondercom next week, which is a CW con, and we’ve been promised a special presentation that is even BETTER than the trailer.
We also have a series of interviews they did way back when they were filming the  middle of the season. The one set in the church that we saw the pictures for. With that is also supposed to be a message to Bellarke shippers from Bob. Apparently some people were worried that would be bad news, but I’m pretty sure it’s more like, “thanks for sticking with us, now you get the payoff.”
And we also have the promo posters and photo shoots, I think. So we’ll get the season 5 poster. I think.
And there are some commercials that we know they filmed, which is kind of awesome because we haven’t gotten a new commercial since, like season 1? It kind of looks like the CW is starting to market us as if we were a DC comic book show, since only the superheroes get ads, it seems. I wonder what kind of chatter they’re getting about The 100, what kind of numbers, what kind of buzz? I think it’s good.
What else after that? I don’t know.

Random memory:
When I was 22 (2011) my mom and I managed to have free tickets to the Saturn Awards -an award show for the scifi, fantasy and horror genres. I went under the impression it was some....outsider awards show. That no one ever showed up to. Then I showed up and saw Sam Witwer, Andy Serkis, and Chloe Moretz on the red carpet!
I was panicked to see these people I knew from film and tv in person. So I went to the bar (for neither the first nor the last time) to get a drink and calm my nerves. I was super out of it and ran into a man and his drink slushed around.
I looked up to see Kurtwood Smith (who I knew as Red “Foot up your ass” Foreman) laughing as his drink ran into the carpet. No please, imagine being in the place of a tipsy, panic stricken, 22 year old, who has grown up LOVING Kurtwood Smith, and then SLAMMING into him and seeing him laugh and tell you “Don’t worry honey!” as you start to drop to your knees and clean up the mess you made him make.
To say I was star struck is to seriously understate how I felt. I knew people got nervous around famous people and I thought that was stupid. Then I was face to face with a man I adored.
I was going to speak to him. I was going to tell him I loved him in everything I’d ever seen him in. In a brief instant I considered hugging him. THEN....Bryan Cranston joined him. I quickly whirled around and faced the front of the GOD DAMN LINE. I had watched Bryan Cranston as Hal (more than anything) forever. Kurtwood Smith had been doubled.
These two men were men I had idolized as what I wanted in life. They were my husband role-models (mind you I ended up with a Red and I am a Hal but...that is beside the point). And there they stood -very closely- behind me. I have no idea how anyone else would have dealt with it! I just....I just stood in front of them and waited the line out. I listened to their chatter but I couldn’t do anything else. I didn’t know how to exist in a world with these gods. I got to the front and the bartender acknowledged my discomfort and I said “Shut up and just fill my drink and my mom’s!!!!”
I figured that was the worst of it....then I realized I was seated right next to Mel Brooks. And that, dear children, is how I died from Pop-Culture Exposure.
