BIOGRAPHY:
Nicholas Scott Vanderbilt, Nick to most, was born the second son of Patrick and Elaine “Lainey” Vanderbilt on the luckiest day in the land, two days late and establishing that he would do what he please and when he damn well wanted. The last name Vanderbilt, no matter the spelling, conjures an image. They’re practically a brand. Young Nicholas and his brothers, as well as his extensive network of cousins, were raised to enhance and support that image. It could be argued his grandfather, William, was a cult leader raising young men to take over the world. Every Vanderbilt son was pressured to be the best, to seek their interests as long as their interests were both academic and high-end, and to pursue a political career. Their last name opened those doors, whether it was a prep school Model UN, the right university, or a job. All they had to do was follow their grandfather’s every instruction and the world would be theirs. It was their birthright, after all.  At least, that’s what they threw out there into time and space.  Nick didn’t exactly agree, preferring to exploit those opportunities with hard work and clear-cut goals -- but he absolutely benefitted from the system and knew from an early age how to selectively keep his mouth shut and manipulate outcomes.
He wasn’t the typical middle child, acting out for attention. He did what was expected of him, but he always did it his way. He could talk his way into and out of trouble, and his energy left his parents exhausted. Just kidding, he wasn’t raised by his parents.  They checked in, but he was raised by an army of well-educated and well-paid nannies and tutors. He was always smart enough to excel, always duty-bound enough to show up, and always rebellious enough to do it on his own terms. He grew to have a taste for expensive things, too pretentious to do low-class drugs or drive basic cars, but also with a few quirks. He didn’t quite have the temptations or shortcomings of his brothers – the constant need for women and the trouble they brought with them when any woman would do, the friends who lived off his money for their good time, the artistic side that barely masked an identity crisis. Instead, he was selectively social, even though it gave him the reputation of being an unequivocal snob, preferring indie bands and concerts, craft beer in off-the-beaten-path bars to escape haranguing of Page Six and other such nonsense, and other “hipster bullshit” according to his younger brother. He didn’t care. He wasn’t sure anyone had anything to offer him anyway.  Maybe there was something to the ‘snobby’ part of his reputation.  As he grew, he realized there was something to the ‘asshole’ part, too, and he never really felt like apologizing for it, so he didn’t.
His educational dossier reads like something in a leather-bound tome, planned out by his grandfather from the moment Nicholas blessed the world with his presence. The only exception is he went to Princeton for his undergraduate, instead of following the family footsteps to New Haven. Mostly, he did it for the sake of being different, not because he cared what the piece of paper said. He had bigger aspirations but made his mark by being slightly different than some of his cousins with their sights on Congress or being Governor. He still did all of his undergrad in politics, emphasis on political economy, and then went to law school at Columbia. While the name didn’t hurt anything, he was confident he got in based on the strength of his academic resume, and he graduated near the top of his class only because he let someone else have that likely last, shining accomplishment in their lives. He doesn’t even remember the woman’s name and he definitely didn’t sleep with her. Or did he? He won’t tell one way or the other, because his parents messed up when they didn’t make discretion part of his middle name. Part of his success was his selective ability to do what he wanted under the radar. His brothers and cousins were just a little too obvious with their exploits, and Nicholas was determined to be smarter and better than them.
Take, for example, the time he got married during year 2, while profoundly drunk in Atlantic City, to a girl from Miami he’d met at a bougie send-away summer camp.  He had attended the camp every year from age twelve to age seventeen, and she was there the whole time.  They had continued to date through their senior year of high school, in spite of the distance.  In addition to liking her, he also liked the privacy of dating someone who didn’t live in the surprisingly-claustrophobic New York world.   Either way, she wasn’t an unknown quantity by any means and his parents and grandparents liked her well enough, even if her mother was a bit much and bit too new-money-ambitious in her efforts to prove herself.  With the wedding, the real problem was he used his silver tongue to lie to a judge, who blessed the wedding without a waiting period. It left him in a rough spot professionally, because he couldn’t get a divorce and admit to the lies without it being political suicide before he’d even graduated from law school.  Aly had ambitions of her own and they split again, like they had during high school but different, and mostly went their own ways. She was young and wild, and he was all over Europe finishing a dual degree in something that was a mouthful to set him up for a career at the UN or as an ambassador, so they only connected sometimes.  They’d had a youthful pact to marry each other at forty if they hadn’t married other people anyway, and not bothering with a divorce kept them away from the messy need for a prenup that hadn’t happened.
HIs parents thought the split went through years ago, fast enough Amy Acosta couldn’t start to model the Vanderbilt family jewels, and they’re very mistaken.  However, he’s always been good at hiding where his heart truly lies, playing off emotions, sounding flip and sarcastic when things get tough. They think he’s back in the States to move forward, long past the one youthful indiscretion where they have only minimal details. The next planned step in the Vanderbilt legacy is marriage and children. After all, what is a legacy if it is not continued?  Now that Nick isn’t just pushing thirty, but is actually there, it’s time for him to turn his attention there, at least in their estimation.  It’s on him to continue their legacy because God only knows his brothers, take your pick of an artist or a consummate playboy, are never going to give his parents and grandfather anything to be proud of.
So it’s up to him. After quietly supporting Aly through some hard times, quitting his hard-won job in the embassy in Belize was easy. After his family’s not-so-subtle attempts to force him home to settle down, moving to the District was easy, because he can still progress his career. He doesn’t want to be around the Vanderbilts any more than he has to these days anyway, so New York wasn’t an option.  And, you know, maybe becoming an esteemed law professor or legal scholar isn’t the worst idea.  It allows a certain amount of flexibility and conjures up a whole new image, even if it’s one he hasn’t considered before.

Legacy Spoilers - Black/White/X/Y
Here goes. I’ll make the last one for the other remaining characters some time next week.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Y is severely discouraged as she believes that Platinum doesn’t have much faith in her abilities. She becomes more determined to prove her worth.
- X arrives in Kanto to meet up with Y, and accompanies the group as they travel around the region.
- Y tells X about her problems and they begin to train together whenever possible. Y’s Shelgon evolves into Salamence. There is a moment of uncertainty as the Salamence struggles to get accustomed with its sudden surge in strength, but it does not go berserk. Y regains her confidence as a trainer.
- Y focuses on training up her Gabite, and it soon evolves into Garchomp. The Garchomp does not go berserk either, and Y no longer has any worries about her Pokemon going out of control. But she still listens to Platinum’s suggestion and delays the attempts at Mega Evolution.
- Black begins to train with Red in order to become stronger and not fall behind Y. White watches the training without participating, and Blue suggests in training up to better prepare for the future. White begins to contemplate a possible Pokemon team change.
- A few weeks later, Blue, Platinum, White, and Y leave for Mt. Silver for a girls-only trip to the hot springs. The trip is cancelled midway as Blue collapses after having been infected by a mysterious disease. White and Y can only watch as their senior rapidly fades away.
- Moon arrives in Kanto just in time to see Blue die, and Platinum falls into depression. White and Y try their best to cheer her up, but they are not successful.
- Y asks X about how to cheer up Platinum who is now acting like him. X has no advice to give, though, as he has no idea what would’ve cheered him up over the years either.
- Black and White return to Unova a few days after the funeral. White returns to Pokestar Studios and adds new Pokemon to her current team so that she can train them up for future movie roles.
- X and Y return to Kalos shortly after. Y returns to the Sky Trainer school, now that she has a lot more Pokemon capable of flight.
- A month later, Silver discovers that Blue’s death was not an accident and wages a solo war against Team Rocket. Black, White, X, and Y return to Kanto from their homes to join the others fighting the organization.
- Y’s Mega Garchomp goes berserk with blood rage during a fight against a small Team Rocket force. Y attempts to calm it down but the Mega Garchomp winds up accidentally stabbing her through the chest with its scythe-claw. She manages to barely survive due to White and Moon’s quick response, but falls into a coma.
- Y’s Mega Garchomp immediately turns docile as it’s horrified by what had happened.
- X hears of the news and stays next to Y as much as he can. White visits frequently as well, as she desperately wishes for her junior to regain consciousness.
- White notices that Platinum is losing her composure and tries to comfort her too, but to no avail.
- White sees Moon running away one night, and tries to run after her, but quickly loses her. She talks to Diamond about it, and together, talk to Platinum. White sends Black to look for Moon, but he fails to find her.
- A few days later, Y’s Sky Trainer juniors arrive in Kanto to find her, after hearing about her falling into a coma. They help X in protecting her from possible Team Rocket attacks.
- Platinum informs White about the possible whereabouts of Moon. After a short discussion, White volunteers to go and scout ahead with Black. Platinum accepts the offer and Black and White proceed to go to the Team Rocket facility.
- Black and White infiltrate the facility and immediately notice that something had gone terribly wrong inside as they find the walls smeared with blood and corpses of the Team Rocket members scattered everywhere.
- White sees the ghost cursing and haunting the place, and recognizes it as Moon.
- Moon’s ghost fails to recognize them due to her madness and Black and White are subjected to the same curse as everyone else in the facility. Black and White lose consciousness as the curse overwhelms them.
- Black is possessed by the twisted Mega Banette and “wakes up”. As instructed, he ties up White and drags her away somewhere. White wakes up during the process, and quickly realizes that Black had been possessed.
- Black drags White to a large chamber where dozens of Team Rocket members have been hung as a result of the curse. White pleads to Black to try to get him to snap out of it, but is unsuccessful and Black hangs her.
- White apologizes to Platinum and Y with her last breath and wishes that Moon’s ghost and Black manage to overcome whatever is affecting them.
- Black is taken somewhere before the twisted Mega Banette loses interest and releases him as it goes off to find other victims to torment.
- Black is found by Platinum, and he has no recollection of anything that happened while he was possessed. The two begin to traverse the cursed facility to find White and Moon.
- Black tries to comfort Platinum as she finds out about what happened to Moon, but is unsuccessful. He hopes that White would have far better luck.
- Platinum and Black find White hung in the large chamber. Black loses control and runs off by himself, swearing vengeance against whoever it was that killed her.
- Black is almost swallowed by madness as the darkness almost consumes him entirely, but the curse is lifted from the facility just in time to spare him. Black’s blinding rage dissipates as the grief of loss overwhelms him and he mindlessly wanders around the facility.
- Platinum finds him again and manages to comfort him enough for him to continue fighting. Black convinces himself to keep fighting in order to avenge White’s death.
- Platinum and Black find the command center of the facility and Black searches through the security feeds. He finds the footage of him tying up and dragging White away somewhere, with the deformed and twisted Mega Banette behind him. Another security footage reveals that he was the one who hung White, despite her pleas.
- Black’s mind shuts off as he realizes that he was the one who killed White. Black loses his mind as he blames himself for everything. But White’s voice echoes in his mind, telling him that it wasn’t his fault, and that she’s happy to see him back to being himself.
- White manages to prevent Black from destroying himself, and he is convinced to continue fighting, for her sake.
- Y regains consciousness shortly after, and hears of the news that White and Moon have been killed.
- Y is overwhelmed with grief and she releases her three Dragon Pokemon, as she is convinced that none of them cared for her anyways. X tries to stop her, but she doesn’t listen.
- Y loses all confidence and believes that she isn’t of any help to anyone else. She convinces X to take her back home to Kalos. With Platinum gone to Sinnoh, no one else can convince Y to stay, and X eventually takes her to Vermillion City.
- X and Y are attacked by a Team Rocket force that was trying to attack Lt. Surge’s businesses. With Y unable to fight or do anything, X is left to defend her by himself. Y’s Sky Trainer juniors try to assist, but they are not able to accomplish much.
- While the others are battling X and the Sky Trainers, a small group of Team Rocket force targets Y. Since she could barely walk currently, they easily surround her and threaten X to surrender.
- X is forced to stop resisting. He is subdued by Team Rocket and Y is tossed into the ocean.
- The three Dragons that Y had released come back to save her. The Garchomp dives into the water to save Y from drowning while Salamence and Hydreigon help X in fighting off Team Rocket.
- Y is saved by her Dragons and is taken back to the hospital. Y wakes up shortly after and is surprised to see that her Dragons have returned. Y eventually regains her confidence as a trainer and accepts her Dragons once more, and together, returns to the fight. She still can’t move much due to her injuries, so X decides that if Y is going to rejoin the fight, he would have to protect her at all times.
- X and Y rejoin the other Dex Holders for the final assault against the Team Rocket splinter faction’s main facility.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Good Ending
- Black, X, and Y join the other Dex Holders in successfully separating Kyurem once more.
- Once everything is over, Black wanders off to try to cope with his loss. With Cheren and Bianca’s help, he is eventually able to overcome his grief.
- X and Y return to Kalos, and X ends up spending all day everyday taking care of Y until she fully recovers from her injuries. Y is embarrassed about being babysat, but is very happy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bad Ending
- X and Y hear from Red that Platinum had gone missing inside the facility, and that everyone should evacuate as the facility is going to be destroyed from the inside.
- Y begs Red to stop and reconsider, as they can’t abandon Platinum to die, but Red orders everyone to leave.
- Y curses Red as she is forced to evacuate. Y weeps as the facility explodes from within and crumbles, as she has now lost Platinum as well, and she was already reeling from the loss of White (and Moon).
- Y refuses to follow Red any longer and doesn’t follow the other Dex Holders to Unova. X agrees to stay with her. X and Y follow Diamond and Pearl to Sinnoh for Platinum’s funeral before returning home.
- After the final fight, Black stays in Unova, as he tries to cope with losing White. Even though Cheren and Bianca try to help him, he eventually wanders off and disappears to reunite with White once more.

Chapter 2 — Bad habits
Word count ‧ 3,730
Chapter summary ‧ You must be out of your mind to think that he actually cared.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
You finally got your eyes to cooperate to stay open and looked up to see a silhouette of a man in very close proximity with you. Your heart leaped to your throat, suddenly remembered that you were in Yoonoh’s room.
“Jung… Yoonoh,” you said his name in a faltering and trembling voice. You dared not to move and stared dumbly at him. The touch of his hand on your bare skin sent streaks of fire racing up and down your body.
He seemed to hear your voice then his movements came to a complete stop. You felt his breath warm on your neck, heard his heavy breathing in your ear.
“Keep going, or not?” he asked, his voice deeper than before, huskier, and filled with unspoken desire.
Your nervous system shut down, but quickly came to life in a rush of heat. Your knees trembled and your stomach clenched. Your breath was uneven when your lips parted as if to say something, but nothing came out. It was intense and then suddenly he pulled back and lifted the blanket and made his way to the bathroom in the darkness.
You had no idea what time it was when you woke up last night, but it was an absolute certainty that your eyes were wide smack open till the next morning. And after Yoonoh went into the bathroom, he had been out of his room since. Where did he go?
You dilly-dallied, slipped out of bed, padded to the bathroom and damn—your head was swimming with dizziness along with pounding from the two or three hours of sleep. You stood before the mirror, you could see the stark evidence of the episode from the night before—that your pyjamas looked a bit crumpled. You had no idea how you were going to face him any later.
It was still early in the morning, not quite seven, your parents had not gotten up yet. All your clothes were in that room and you were afraid that you could not get in there at the moment. You remembered you had clothes hung outside that you washed yesterday and so you went downstairs to get a fresh set of clothes.
Chop, chop, chop. Slice, slice, slice. The sound of the knife cutting through and landing against the wooden board drew you into the doorway, onto the threshold of the kitchen. Assuming your mother had woken up rather early. You opened your mouth—to call out “mom”—but the word was suddenly stuck in your throat as soon as you came eyeball-to-eyeball with the last person you wanted to see just then. You jolted with the shock and spun on your heels preparing to sprint away.
“Come here.”
The second after you whirled, Yoonoh called out to you faintly. Did he not feel awkward at all?
Right, it was him who took advantage of you, how could he possibly feel awkward about it.
Reluctantly you turned back around, somehow keeping your face perfectly calm. “My! You’re up early today.”
He brought some thinly sliced spring onion into a small bowl, without any expression on his face he echoed, “When was I never earlier than you?”
Pfft! Only very slight bit, what’s there to be hoity-toity about?
“Wash your hands.” He commanded.
“What for?”
He did not answer but turned around to continue what he had been doing without giving a damn on you. On instinct you rolled your eyes and padded to the sink. You ran the water and held your hands under the stream, rubbing palm to palm as an indication whatsoever before turning off the faucet. Yoonoh swiveled his head rather abruptly and stared at your hands, “Wash with soap.”
It’s not like you’re a kid anymore, so what’s with the soap? Killing bacteria? You grumbled internally but not wanting to waste time and energy bickering over petty things so you had it his way and washed your hands once again with an antibacterial soap.
As you dried your hands with soft strokes of the towel, Yoonoh pointed to one, two, three and four eggs in the basket then said, “Peel the eggs.”
After all that fuss made about hygiene, was it his germophobia acting up then? Only just peeling eggs and you thought he wanted you to knead a dough instead.
You obliged without uttering a syllable and with every murky shell that peeled off you felt your cheeks grew warmer.
That… bared in its all glory… last night you shared a bed with someone as equally au naturel, and…
Stop, stop!
You became even more flushed than a minute ago, with bright red spots appearing on your cheeks. Yet Yoonoh noticed every detail with his sharpness as Hawkeye’s, giving no quarter that he pointed out, “What’s with your face matching the colour of pig’s blood early in the morning?”
He could’ve gone further exaggerating the metaphoricity; it would not hurt any less either way.
Noticing your silence, he seasoned his remark with malice, “Or, you’re shy about what happened last night?”
“Hmph,” he smirked, without another word he spun around and poured a little olive oil in the pan.
Pervert.
You did not want him to see your face, your embarrassed reaction to his comment so you could only turn your back to him as well and not pick an argument with him.
Tumblr media
After breakfast, your parents had to catch the return flight back to Ulsan and so Yoonoh drove them to the airport. In wishing you goodbye, your mother held onto your hands, and over and over she was only concerned about Yoonoh that you might not take good care of him, leaving him to starve or freeze or wither up at leisure.
You were certain the woman standing before you was, indeed, not your biological mother.
Until your parents had settled in at the boarding gate then you returned home. As Yoonoh drove past a grocery store, you suddenly remembered that you were out of toothpaste so you made him stopped by.
Afraid that he might get impatient with waiting, you headed straight to the sales assistant for the placement of the product, impulsively grabbing a box of toothpaste and checked out at the counter.
Right after you walked out through the automatic doors labeled “Exit Only” you saw an oh-so-slim sylph sashaying towards the direction of Yoonoh’s car. The man got down, apparently completely clueless what he said to her that the very next moment she was in the passenger seat.
A message came in, signaled by the slight vibration of the device in your hand, from Yoonoh: Something came up, had to leave first. Get yourself a ride home.
He drove away and you watched until his car was out of sight. Gingerly you moved your thumbs over the screen, typing out a reply: Ok.
In the center of your palm laid a dull silver coin of 500won of the amount of change. It was cool and, weirdly, heavy.
Five years ago, 500won would have taken you through the main areas of downtown of Seoul. But now, 500won worth nothing to what seemed to be the cheapest transportation in the entire world.
During your summer break from middle school, you and your little companions would walk miles to travel around the city and returned on foot evening just to reserve that 500won for snacks. The distance of those journeys was never concerned, surprisingly you did not feel tired at all be it three hours, or that was because you were snacking along the way.
But, as you grew older, and supposed to be tougher, thirty minutes of walking already had you feeling tired and panting, the soles of your feet hurt.
It took you a little over an hour to walk back home from the airport. When you finally reached the front door and opened it, you could have just sit in the foyer and would not move a finger for hours on end. The fact that you made it into the house with persistence was enough to say that you were absolutely soiled.
A wave of utter exhaustion overtook you, and eventually you felt sleepy so you took a quick shower and went to bed. Till five thirty in the evening, you woke up. For so long you slept it was the reason that you had not sleep a wink last night.
You got up and filled yourself a glass of water. You gently raised your head high enough so you could drink without choking. The water was cool and refreshing and you sipped a few mouthfuls. You had not realized how thirsty you were, then your stomach grumbled, or how hungry. And so you made yourself a bowl of noodles then washed the breakfast dishes.
Yoonoh was not home yet, you had no idea what had he been doing or where was he with Sooyoung, or he might not return even…
Tidying up the living room after, dishwashing, you made your way upstairs again. Had you been sleeping all the afternoon through, you did not feel signs of drowsiness.
Flipping through pages, reading passages randomly, yet you could not commit to reading the book in its entirety, so you pulled out your phone.
Ever since you graduated from college, you had lost contact with many of your friends except for your dear Jennie. And you called her for long, giggly, pointless chats about the minutiae of life, not knowing when or how the conversation led to Yoonoh.
Jennie: Honestly, about your marriage to him, it’s kinda unbelievable, but bound to happen.
Y: What was bound to happen?
Jennie: Even though I don’t know him well, he seemed to be a cold person to me, it’s the truth. I couldn’t deny that I wasn’t shaken when I found out in high school that we have a senior that’s smart and so good-looking. But every single time when I greeted him he just ignored me, and I’m like ‘forget about it’ and moved on.
Jennie: But then again, I’m not the only shameless one. A lot of girls tried to talk to him and got ignored, except you. Every time you walked past him and need not to say anything, his eyes went to you instinctively.
Jennie: And I’d also realized that you’re the only person he talked to, that’s the only time his poker face showed expressions, which is why we’d all thought that out of all the women in the world, he’d choose you.
Frankly speaking, Jennie transferred to different school in 12th grade, she had no idea of the presence of another.
Y: Was his face like this every time he saw me? 🙄 This kinda expression was it? 😒
Jennie: Dang, those two. Accurate!
Y: …
And how did they even perceive that as signs of interest?
Tumblr media
Jennie descended from a family of scholars, her father an archeologist while her mother a college professor, eventually their thinking was old fashioned—positively feudal. Watching their daughter of nearing thirty and had no male relation of potential son-in-law, they were undeniably concerned.
When Jennie was still in New Zealand, never had they ever brought up the topic in their phone calls. However merely returned for a few days, the poor girl had been getting her ear chewed off.
She grumbled, “Had I known it’s gonna be like this, I wouldn’t come back.”
Gloating over her misery, you pricked the bubbles of truth, “I guess your parents were afraid that you’ll find yourself a kiwi husband so they never pressed you about it. Now that they’ve coaxed you to come back, of course they’re gonna seize the opportunity to settle you down with a domestic spouse.”
She banged her head against the table, “That’s racist, racist! Why’s my life so miserable?”
You lifted the cup of fresh coffee to your lips, blowing on it prior to taking a sip, not even trying to console her at this point.
Your supposed “hang out” for the day was because of her desperately crying for help earlier in the morning that her parents had arranged a blind date for her.
She had never done anything like that, which was why she was extra nervous and dragged you out from your house to be that… third wheel.
The more she talked about it the more she grew restless and finally she slumped motionless on the table as if her body was hollowed out. You intended to remind her of her hair getting into the coffee, but before you could even speak up, a hand came out of nowhere and brushed out her messy strands.
Assuming that it was you, she lifted her head and grabbed ahold of the hand, then as if feeling an unusual sensation, aggressively surprised, “Who are you?”
The hand belonged to a remarkably handsome man with dark eyes and hair; well behaved, very courteous, very well-mannered, radiating all—Jennie’s designated partner for the blind date.
Maybe he was equally unfamiliar with the social engagement which he had also brought along a company as emotional support.
Therefore, what was supposed to be a blind date for two, appeared to be for a pair now.
Jennie’s partner, Kim Doyoung, came from a family of scholars as well; his friend went by the name Qian Kun, whose parents ran a small business.
You were struggling to manage a conversation with Kun and at the same time observing the other two, seemed like she already had the urge to run for her life, meanwhile the man was more of a gentleman that there was no way for the usually bold Jennie to lie her desire to escape.
As for the impression that Doyoung gave you… it was a positive that he had taken an interest in her.
No no no, but the way he looked at Jennie was definitely like… he was gazing upon his lover.
It gave an indication that they had known each other for a long time.
Interesting.
Kun was untalkative, but he was polite, the kind of person that would only answer questions, not offer more and kept silent when not. Though he lent a sense of comfort and harmony, but lacked existence at the same time. Thankfully he was born charming that even when he did not speak, people would almost stop and stare at him.
More than a little while at the cafe, Doyoung offered to buy dinner for everyone. Jennie had wanted to reject however under the supervision of her mother with a text message querying about their progress, she gritted her teeth and made it happen in case she would be having her parents breathing down her neck.
Doyoung only ate a little and then stuffing Jennie with so much food that it was visibly to you that she had lost patience with the man.
It was yet the end, that you proceeded to the next round at a karaoke bar. Somewhat dubious that Jennie had reached the limit of her tolerance, or she intended him to retreat. Who used to have a wonderful singing voice was intentionally going off pitch, and picked a trot song that she belted out from deep within her soul.
It was to the point that you, being a tone-deaf, could not help but grew annoyed at her awful singing.
She was rather ferocious that night that she bitterly suggested to compete Doyoung in drinking. Clearly she was a lightweight but insisted the attendant to serve bottles and bottles of soju.
Your eyes bulged in surprise as you stared at the dozen of alcohol, you contemplated warning her but out of the blue you registered the changing gaze of Jennie on Doyoung.
She cracked open a bottle of soju and slammed it on the table with a loud smack. She looked at him provocatively, speaking, “If you get through me tonight, I’ll try to date you for good, deal?”
Both you and Kun gaped at the pair in silence. There was a ghost of a smile crossed Doyoung’s face then he reached over to snatched the bottle from her grip, “You don’t have to drink, I’ll finish all of these, as long as you don’t go back on your word.”
Next thing you all witnessed him drowning bottle to bottle, ravenously. Till the third bottle, he was unable to swallow anymore, clear transparent liquor escaped from the corner of his mouth. Jennie roared, “Don’t let it drip!”
He shot a glance at her then ushered Kun to bring him another bottle.
Kun said nothing, and did not bother advising him, without a word he fetched another dozen of soju. You watched him as a small smirk crept onto your face, Doyoung was discreet in choosing friends, you thought.
Specifically how many bottles he had downed, you had lost count of it. He was completely wasted and could not even sit steadily.
You could not bear to watch another moment more and wanted to convince Jennie to make him stop, but in that sense, it meant that she would have to raise the white flag and date him for real. But acknowledging the cruel fact that she had not had even a slither of interest in him, you gave up instead after multiple failed attempts.
In a way everything just came to an end, there was not an outcome between Jennie and Doyoung. However on the way back, you could sense the bad omen in your friend.
You kept your voice calm and neutral, but there was clear teasing in your tone, “That was a difficult one, seems like you can’t get rid of him any way.”
Jennie went silent for a moment while she switched gears mentally, “At first I thought he was familiar but I couldn’t pinpoint exactly who he was until I saw that he was left handed during dinner then I suddenly remembered that he’s that douchebag Kim Dongyoung.”
“Dongyoung? That sounds familiar.” You heard somewhere but could not remember the sudden recollection.
She said, “During high school, the asshole that I had a crush on!”
Now, hearing that from her own lips, you came to the sudden realization and a blurry silhouette of a guy popped inside your head. For quite a while that Jennie dated him in high school, later it was because the counterpart was tangled with another girl that they broke up after. Then Jennie went overseas, and the guy called Dongyoung vanished into thin air, nowhere to be found.
“But why is he called Doyoung now?”
“It was some superstitious belief I guess. His family is weird.”
“Seems like he was hoping to rekindle the past romantic flames. Do you still have feelings for him?” you asked.
She answered disdainfully, “We were immature back then, I’d already lost whatever I had for him.”
“To me it’s like he couldn’t forget about you though.” Honestly you could tell that she had not moved on entirely from him, otherwise how could she recognized him as the Dongyoung back then?
“That’s his problem. I don’t dwell on the past, especially one that’s tainted.” When she spoke of the word ‘tainted’, she muttered between clenched teeth, which did not sound nice at all.
You became silent then, not wanting to jog her through bad memories. However you could not help but be reminded of the diminishing figure of Yoonoh and Sooyoung that day as the distance between them increased by a yard per mile. Suddenly you could feel the morose mood within.
Jennie drove you back home then buzzed off with a simple “goodnight”. You knew that she was definitely going for speeding down the road to get her mind off.
Tumblr media
From afar you had already noticed that the lights were on, for sure Yoonoh was home. When you made your entrance and changed your shoes, there you saw him on the couch.
You were still sulky and resentful and bitchy so you decided to ignore him at the moment. You changed into your fluffy slippers and went straight for the stairs and up them.
“Where have you been, why do you smell like alcohol all over?” He sat on the couch, suddenly threw a question with obvious ill judgement.
Subconsciously you took a whiff of your own self, and retorted, “I didn’t drink.”
“What’s with the strong odor if you didn’t?”
“Probably when helping Doyoung…” you paused, previously you had made a mental note to ignore him at all costs, yet you were explaining yourself to him?
He sure knew how to pick up important points, “Who is Doyoung?”
You pursed your lips, had you wanted to explain to him, but questioned back instead, “Why do you care?”
His face went dark immediately, “You’ve been with that guy this whole day?”
“So what if I was?”
“It’s fine, but I have to remind you now that you’re labelled as me, Jung Yoonoh’s wife, you better not try something that puts me in shame,” he said, coldly.
Oh, so that’s it?
What were you exactly wishing for? Doing this deliberately, intentionally to get him misunderstood. You sure were out of your mind.
“Alright.” You were too tired to fight with him, mentally tired, honestly you had began to get tired of this lifestyle as well. Two people who lived under the same roof and seeing the same face every morning, day in and day out, yet always fighting and hurting each other every time when mouths opened that you basically did not speak the same language. It was indeed tiring.
As if he never thought that you would be easily compromised this time that he was stunned for a second, and just continued what he had been doing with nothing said. You did not stay any longer and went upstairs.
In fact, all these years you both had cared too much about pride which caused this constant tension and friction in between.
When one attacked another, there would be horrible and awful words as defensive comeback.
Those hurtful words would end up hurting yourselves anyway. If you did not went all out your way to maliciously hurt others, how would it lead to harsh and cruel retaliation in the other part?
As long as one first backed down and admitted defeat, eventually the other would stop before going too far.
Both adults knew that, yet no one had the courage to let go of their pride and ego.

恭喜发财 ;D;D; if you’ve got some room left, can we get WangXian and Sizhui family fluff
For once, Lan Wangji doesn’t know where exactly he’s going as the shadows envelop him, fly him away. The two swords he’s carrying tremble at his side, and Wei Wuxian is unconscious in his arms.
“Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian’s voice is weak. Too weak for the panicked beating of Lan Wangji’s heart. Not again. Not again not again not again –
“Wei Ying,” he replies, looking down. Wei Wuxian smiles.
“I’m here,” he says, reaching up to touch Lan Wangji’s cheek.
“Nn,” agrees Lan Wangji, pressing his lips to Wei Wuxian’s wrist, savouring the warmth of him. It may not be there later.
The shadows deposit him on solid ground, and when it clears, he realises he’s standing before a familiar cave, the jagged and blackened ruins of a settlement yawning against the mountainside below. Memories rise inside him, as he remembers pressing Wei Wuxian down on the grass that once grew on this ridge, as he remembers the soft glow of red lanterns in the trees that are no longer there.
“He’s hurt.” Wen Qing’s voice cuts through his reverie. She’d also made it here, with Wen Ning at her side looking windswept. “I can fix him. Give him here.”
Lan Wangji complies. Wei Wuxian makes a token protesting noise, but Wen Qing takes him inside the cave and deposits him on the same stone slab he’d been found on the last time he was here.
“Ooh, definitely been here before,” Wei Wuxian remarks, looking around the cave. “Still smells like blood, too.”
Lan Wangji raises an eyebrow at Wen Qing, who is now untying Wei Wuxian’s robes so she can better assess his stab wound.
“Wen Ning,” she says, and her brother springs to attention. “I need medicinal herbs.”
Wen Ning listens to his sister, nodding frantically all the while, before ducking out of the cave once more.
Lan Wangji sits himself down at where he’d once had his workstation. “Do you require further assistance?” he asks.
“No,” says Wen Qing.
“Then I shall meditate here,” replies Lan Wangji. “Tell me if you need help.”
Wen Qing lets him rest instead.
The next time Lan Wangji resurfaces from his meditation, he notices that the cave is a little more crowded than before.
“How are you feeling, Senior Wei?” Jiang Sizhui is asking, as Wei Wuxian sits up on the slab, stretching and yawning.
“Much better!” he exclaims, before wincing. Wen Qing rolls her eyes. “Okay, maybe a little sore,” he concedes. “But I’m not bleeding from the stomach again, and that’s what counts.” He pauses. “When did you two get here?”
“Wen Ning found us,” says Jiang Sizhui. “Jingyi contacted us, said he’d stabbed you and felt really bad about it. He’s sorry, you know.”
“Sure.” Wei Wuxian laughs, ruffling Jiang Sizhui’s hair. “He probably wouldn’t be apologising if he’d stabbed the person he meant to stab.”
Lan Wangji tries to pretend he hadn’t been listening in by remaining in his meditative pose.
“How is Lan Xichen, though?” wonders Wei Wuxian suddenly. “He seemed pretty mad about us managing to escape his clutches at the Cloud Recesses. Did Jingyi mention anything about that?”
“He mentioned something about a siege,” says another voice. Jin Rulan steps into the cave, scowling deeply. “The other sects are rallying as we speak. They’ll be here before we know it.”
“Even Yunmeng?” wonders Wei Wuxian.
“Even Yunmeng,” agrees Jiang Sizhui. “But I think for most of these it’s all just alliances being called upon. I don’t think my father cares about capturing Hanguang-jun or whatever Sect Leader Lan intends to do.”
“Small comforts.” Wei Wuxian sighs, leaning back on his slab with a groan. “How… how are you feeling, Jin Ling?”
Jin Rulan’s scowl intensifies even more, if possible. “I would’ve expected lying by omission to be something only Uncle likes to do, and yet here we are,” he growls.
“Is it to do with your mother?” wonders Wei Wuxian, reaching out to pat his shoulder. Sure enough, Jin Rulan makes a scathing noise in the back of his throat at the mention of his mother.
“She told me for years she thought Father was travelling,” he says. “Years. I believed her. I thought Father was off in new lands and was going to come back once his work was done. But he’s not coming back – at least, not in the way he should have.”
“How much do you think she knew?” Wei Wuxian folds his hands across the hastily-cut cloth bandages tied around his abdomen. Jin Rulan shrugs, taking a seat on the slab beside him.
“Why would she do that?” he wonders, his voice a half-sob.
A shadow passes over Wei Wuxian’s face. “Because she didn’t want to break your heart,” he says. “She was trying to protect you.”
It’s not fair how the slightest downturn of his lips can still make Lan Wangji’s heart crack like that. At this rate, it’ll be a miracle that he still has one.
Even now, all Lan Wangji wants is for his Wei Ying to be happy. But sometimes ‘happiness’ and ‘standing beside the Master of Shadows’ don’t go hand in hand.
It takes some more rest and spiritual energy, but eventually Wei Wuxian’s wounds recover well enough for him to leave the slab entirely. Lan Wangji has moved outside of the cave now, looking down at the ruins of the settlement he had worked so hard to build.
“What a shame, Lan Zhan,” says Wei Wuxian, coming to sit down beside him, gesturing out to the valley. “All that work, destroyed.”
“Stygian Blade,” says Lan Wangji, looking down at his hands. The settlement had been destroyed long before the siege arrived. “It was necessary.” It had destroyed you, Wei Ying. I could not let it live.
Wei Wuxian leans his head on his shoulder, and Lan Wangji is reminded again of his last night in Yiling, before the storm, before the siege, before his death. He buries his nose in Wei Wuxian’s hair, revelling in the softness, the strange-yet-familiar scent of him.
“Lan Zhan,” murmurs Wei Wuxian. “You said something back in Lanling about your father and your mother… and then your mother’s cabin in the Cloud Recesses… what does it mean? What did your father do?”
Even amid the wreckage of the Yiling settlement, there are still little pinpricks of life. Tiny buds of green poking through blackened earth, golden fireflies that drift out of the broken trees. They gather and dance now, like little golden cores. Wei Wuxian holds out a hand, and one lands on his palm.
“He fell in love with her, but she was unwilling,” says Lan Wangji, watching as the little bug wanders across Wei Wuxian’s palm, light flickering erratically on and off. He’s reminded of the dancing lanterns that used to hang in the settlement, lighting the way home. “She killed a teacher of his in an attempt to remain free.”
And he took her back to the Cloud Recesses, married her anyway, and smothered her like a firefly in a jar.
Wei Wuxian shivers from beside him, despite the night still being warm. “And you think your brother does not kill you, he will lock you up like your father did to your mother?”
“I do not think,” says Lan Wangi. “I know.” The memory of Wen Qing bound in silver ropes in that little cabin covered in gentians, the memory of her grateful hug when he’d managed to free her – she had wasted too many years as bait in the Cloud Recesses, all because of him. Because his brother thinks that killing or imprisoning him will bring his core back, somehow.
This has to end, one way or another.
And it does, when Wen Ning comes running back up the hill, half out of breath with Jiang Sizhui hot on his heels. Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian both spring to their feet in alarm. “Sect Leader Lan is coming!” Wen Ning gasps. “An entire army is coming to lay siege, Hanguang-jun, you have to get out of here.”
“No,” says Lan Wangji, glaring levelly at them. You must leave, all of you. Please stop putting your lives on the line for me. “You go.”
Wei Wuxian grabs his hand. “We’re not going anywhere,” he snaps, and Lan Wangji’s heart breaks all over again.

More Final Heartbreak For Azzurrini At Youth Level
30-July-2018
Cries of “heads held high” and “unlucky lads” were splashed across major Italian sports journals and websites. Italy’s Under 19s lost out in yet another final, following in the fatal footsteps of the Under 17s and the previous crop of Under 19s from 2016. The FIGC was quick to point to the recent progress of youth teams, but is a dangerous trend developing?
Tumblr media
As close as they’d get. Italy Under 19 coach and captain; Paolo Nicolato and Davide Bettella (right). - Image courtesy of uefa.com
Since I was old enough to start following football, I’ve supported Italy through far more final losses than I’d like to remember. It might be that Italian youth teams are now picking up the habit. Over the last 10 years there have been 6 Euro final defeats from under 17 to under 21 level, plus 1 for the senior team’s Euro 2012 final defeat. Comparatively the number of triumphs in that same period stands at, well......zero. Like a torturous loop of crumbling on the cusp of glory.
Juventus will (reluctantly) admit that losing in finals is a tricky habit to break, but where do the latest line of Azzurrini silver medalists stand in all this? Contrary to the 2016 team that was soundly beaten at the last stand by France, Paolo Nicolato’s men went down to the wire of extra time. I detailed Italy’s opening win against Finland in my previous write-up, and from therein they came up against (and defeated) the very team that pipped them to the trophy.
While Portugal did go down to 10-men very early on in their group stage clash, the game still needed to be won. Italy did just that with well taken goals from Capone and Scamacca featuring in the 3-2 win. Portugal held their own with a man down, but the Azzurrini looked in control of the game and the group with 6 points from 2 games.
Italy went into the last game knowing that just a point would allow them to top the group. A robust Norway stood in their way and Nicolato expected a tough challenge from the Scandinavians, who took the lead from the penalty spot. It was only a late Moise Kean goal that secured the point needed.
The semi-final bracket presented a familiar trans-alpine nemesis. France, along with Portugal, were one of the pre-tournament favorites. Conditioned by a shock opening loss to Ukraine, Les Bleuets recorded back-to-back 5-0 wins to finish 2nd in their group; setting up a repeat of their triumphant 2016 final. Italy went on to exact revenge for that defeat, by beating the French at the successive Under 20 World Cup, and doubled-down with a 2-0 win here.
France would have considered themselves unlucky not to have taken the lead when they hit the bar early on, but the Azzurrini ruthlessly took a 2-goal lead in the space of 3 minutes. Bellanova cut a low cross into the box for Capone to slot home, with Kean springing the offside trap moments later to double the lead. France continued carving out chances with Italy executing counter attacks. Kean almost made it 3 after rounding the keeper and having his tap-in blocked. France’s pressure continued into the 2nd half, yet somehow the Italian defense stood firm to keep a clean sheet, even missing another great chance with Melegoni’s counter-attack deep into stoppage time.
Enter the thrilling final. A rematch with Portugal; the reigning (under 17) champions were riding the highs of their 5-0 semi win (against Ukraine) and keen to prove their worth against Italy with 11-v-11. The game was a spectacle for neutrals and a roller-coaster for fans of the participants. Portugal looked to be cruising with 2-0 lead 72 minutes in. Italian keeper Plizzari, who’d rescued the Azzurrini on several occasions throughout these Euros, unfortunately picked the worst game to have his worst game. Portugal’s opener slipped through the Milan man’s meek attempt to block, while the second was parried on a plate for Trincão on the 6-yard box; both shots weren’t irresistible as they say in Italian.
Italy showed fight and character to claw back to level terms with 2 goals in as many minutes. Kean at the double; first combining with fellow substitute Capone to instep into the bottom corner, then from a low Zaniolo cross with the same instep into the same corner. The Juventus owned striker didn’t waste the chance to emulate Balotelli’s shirtless statue celebration.
Onto extra time and the comeback galvanized Italy, who looked more likely to score, but Portugal would soon get back in front against the run of play; Plizzari’s purchase not enough to keep out Jota. In a matter of moments, Scamacca headed for 3-3 from Marcucci’s assist, letting fans in Finland know that Italy had no plans to lie down. That sadly lasted 2 minutes as Italian hearts were broken in the 109th minute by Correia’s finish from a loose ball in the box.
Portugal were worthy champions, consolidating what looks like a strong generation. Italy left feeling like they could have gotten something more from this final; a sentiment echoed by the Azzurrini Under 17s earlier this year. While there are signs of promise among recent Italian youth teams, the FIGC should be doing more than keeping “heads held high.” Winning breeds winning, as Portugal showed, and if even some of the reforms suggested after the Sweden debacle were to be implemented, then we might just have a chance of turning some of that silver into gold.
