A quick blurb on the background of Dov, the Chosen of an evil goddess, for my Pathfinder campaign setting. It’ll be a while until the party actually meets him but I’m excited for it anyway :)c
Radovan // Vanishing of the Gods // Devour
“Now, just like we showed you.”
The voice was firm, but kind; affectionate. Green eyes, large on the child’s face looked up to an Ouro woman with sparkling blue scales. Despite her voice she wore a wicked smile and the child nodded, a knife in his hands that took both of them to properly hold it. Right. Just like she’d showed him.
Ten years old but already tall, already strong with dark horns poking out of his hair, the Kasun approached a sacrifice that was bound and laid upon an altar to Singapurra. Curiosity filled his expression at the skin bared, paints and burns already having marked the skin of the man before him. Would this one scream as loud as the ones that he’d watched be cut up for his goddess? Would he bleed and flail and stain Dov’s hands like the hands of his mothers? This was to be his first time and though he had watched he was curious; how would it feel, would he get a sacrifice that lasted long enough to appease?
Stepping up to the altar, he held the knife, he brought it down into the man’s skin, eyes flashing from the tight face and muffled noise the sacrifice made and down to the blood pooling around the blade. A carefully practiced motion cut in a sweeping arc down his chest, right under the shape of his rib cage and blood began to drip down onto the altar. The sacrifice writhed and struggled but his bindings didn’t allow movement and Dov repeated the cut on the other side under the watchful gaze of one of his mothers. She nodded, approving, but Dov didn’t even notice as he drove the knife deeper for a third cut, tearing down through the center of his chest and his belly. This cut was deeper, striking through something tough and as he pulled the knife back, a spray of blood came with it. Red speckled across his face and hand and he leaned back, alarmed, and brought one of his hands to touch it at his face.
Blood - blood for the goddess, it was for her but it was also his now too, wasn’t it? This was not just for Singapurra, this was for himself too.
This was his gift.
The realization took him and a smile spread his lips, revealing teeth that were sharp, a mouth hungry and he brought the knife back down into the man’s chest, blade scraping bone, blood coming to surface and it looked just as pretty as it did when he’d watched his mothers’ sacrifice someone. He wanted to give this sacrifice to Singapurra, he wanted to give all of this man’s essence to her for the power he could already feel seeping into his skin, even this young.
Abandoning the lines drawn and the direction he was given by his mother, Dov climbed up onto the altar and used the knife to rip through skin and muscle, pushing his fingers into the wound to tear the skin, savoring the stains on his hands and the warmth of how wet it was. Blood felt good, it looked good, and in a whisper from the goddess he was told it tasted good.
“Be grateful,” he said when he brought the knife down again, finding the join in the centre of the sacrifice’s ribs, scraping with the knife as screams pushed past the gag in his mouth to peel back the muscle and skin. “Singapurra wants your blood, it’s an honour.”
Writhing and moving and pulling only made blood flow freely and Dov enjoyed how it squished between his fingers, ( let it coat you, the goddess’ thoughts told him, let it stain you, feel the blood and enjoy, it is yours and mine, all for you, all for me, all for us ) red and hot and sticky as he brought the back of the knife down in a heavy strike, far stronger than it should have been for a child - but he wasn’t just any child he was Chosen, and tearing this soul apart to devour it was Singapurra’s wish.
He would be rewarded, she told him.
It will feel good, it will taste good, eat, drink, devour.
A crack, a spray of blood- small fingers wrapped around bone and pried it away, a hungry and awestruck look on Dov’s face as he watched the innards of this man’s body work, faster and bloodier than he could have imagined. It was amazing.
A grin splitting his lips, he tore into the man’s chest with knife and fingers and found what Singapurra wanted, his hand pausing as he touched the thrumming, dense and hot muscle of the man’s heart. Screaming had weakened, as had struggling, and with the knife he cut into the mess he had made, ripping the heart free and spraying himself with blood. It was all over his face, his hands, his chest now and the altar was dripping now, tracks cut in it leading the blood in the patterns of Singapurra’s making. The man’s struggling ceased as blood pooled but Dov didn’t notice; he didn’t care. He had what he wanted.
Red and heavy, dripping with blood, he held the heart in both his hands before he brought it to his face and bit into it, feeling the flesh of it fill his mouth. Blood spilled past his lips and down his chin as he swallowed, a sense of satisfaction filling him as he took another bite. The blood was like metal, a sharp sort of taste and the thick, tough muscle of the heart released more every time his teeth ripped into it. Good, it tasted so good and he brought the heart to his lips again to devour, leaving the rest of the sacrifice to soak in its own blood. Blood and flesh in his mouth, overwhelming with sweetness in his stomach, satisfying a hunger he had not known he’d had - the feeling was too much, as if he had been starving, as if it cured some sickness he had not known he’d had and he could not stop himself, he wanted more.
More blood on his hands and lips, more flesh torn by nails and teeth and the blade of a knife blessed by his goddess.
More pain more screams more dying breaths and life drained beneath his fingers.
More.
A hand at his shoulder drew Dov’s attention away and he pulled the heart down for a moment, turning to catch the look of praise from the woman who had watched. A smile stained red appeared a moment, his face streaked with the blood of his kill.
“She liked this one,” he said. “She’s pleased.”
There was no doubting that - as he bit into the heart again he could feel Singapurra’s approval, that she had received this offering and would bless him with her strength for it. This was a generous goddess who had chosen him, he knew, to be rewarding him with such power and such tasty sacrifices.

Flower Dome
Boasting the record for being the world’s largest greenhouse, the Flower Dome towers over the Gardens by the Bay. At 1.2 hectares, it’s the perfect place to visit year-round. Regardless of the weather outside, you can explore comfortably as you walk amongst the vouchers. My friend had been in Singapore a few weeks before I flew-in, and he made me promise I would make it a priority.  I don’t…

OCBC Skyway: Elevated Adventure and Panoramic Views
Immerse yourself in nature at Gardens by the Bay's OCBC Skyway. Take a stroll amidst the iconic Supertrees and enjoy panoramic views of Singapore.
The sun was starting to set when I arrived at the queue for the Skywalk. After the heat of the day it was a relief. It had been a humid day, so I had sweated through my second t-shirt of the day, having only changed an hour before after a can exploded all over me. The OCBC Skyway was my second activity at Gardens by the Bay, with the first being the Flower Dome. I had been waiting months to visit…

Garden Rhapsody: A Symphony of Lights
The Garden Rhapsody was something I was really excited for during my time in Singapore. Although to be fair there isn't a lot I wasn't excited to explore. I had been up til 2am the night before trying to book my tickets.
The Garden Rhapsody was something I was really excited for during my time in Singapore. Although to be fair there isn’t a lot I wasn’t excited to explore. Initially I didn’t think I would make the show. I had been up til 2am the night before trying to book tickets, and couldn’t see any that included the light show. I spoke to the concierge in the morning and he gave them a call.  They told him I…
