Located in the Northwest, the Lower Columbia Association rep- resents churches strung across four counties. A beautiful area of Oregon, the churches in the association range in staff size from single pastor (full or part-time) to multiple staff pastors.
The major industries in this area are lumber, fishing, farming, tourism, light industrial and technology as well as many service industries. Depending on where one lives, you will find many who are just making ends meet and very few who many would be considered wealthy. There is also many who are homeless or struggling single-parenthouseholds. The housing situation in many parts of this area is not affordable and what is available usually is the worse for wear.
Alcohol and drug addictions are a major problem. Domestic violence is high; as a result, there are single-parent families who have suffered greatly at the hands of an abuser. There is in some a sense of hopeless, a feeling that not only do they lack a voice in decisions, but that no one is listening anyway.
It is into this area that the churches of the Lower Columbia Association have the privilege of bringing the gospel message that can bring salvation, hope and healing for those who are weary and worn.
- Pray for the spiritual, mental and physical health of the various pastors and staff members in our churches who are fighting the good fight of faith. Pray that we together will continue to seek to grow in the grace and knowledge of God, leaving a Christlike example for others to follow.
- Pray for boldness and clarity of mind and speech as we share our gospel hope in Christ with people who are self-absorbed and independently minded.
- Pray that God would grant us wisdom as we minister to the various needs of those in our congregations. Pray also that we would seek God’s wisdom in ministering to families and individuals within our communities.
- Pray that our churches will have a desire to meet and encourage one another in spite of the differences in ministry areas and size of ministry, to serve one another as co-laborers in the gospel and strengthen those in the association who need encouragement to keep pressing on in their good work.
