Many supporters of President-Elect Joe Biden took to Twitter this week with the hashtag #TrumpIsACompleteFailure and shared memes that ranged from the mildly humorous to the downright mean spirited. Gracious in victory they were not.

Joining the fray was Scott Dworkin (@funder), co-founder of the Democratic Coalition and podcast host, who tweeted, “Trump walked out of the Oval Office when asked about inauguration during a Medal of Freedom ceremony. So embarrassing and completely pathetic. #TrumpIsACompleteFailure”

While the tweet may have had a valid point on the President’s handling of the Medal of Freedom ceremony, the inclusion of the hashtag shows that the hatred on both sides remains amped up.

The comments from President Trump’s supporters were as vicious and the hashtag #BidenWasNotElected has been making the rounds along with #BidenCheated2020 and #DemocratsAreCorrupt.

Now everyone shares their opinion and often times it is reinforced by others who need – even crave – this desire to post, tweet, share and retweet things that they’d probably not bring up to strangers. Social media has allowed and even worse encouraged everyone to share their political opinions.

“It’s a difficult quandary,” said technology industry analyst Charles King of Pund-IT.

“Beliefs tend to follow or depend on reinforcement and, in the pre-Internet era, many people’s beliefs tended to parallel those in their families and communities,” King added.

“Today, it’s possible to find numerous individuals and groups online that reinforce extremist views of every sort,” King warned. “Social media platforms deserve some blame for amplifying those views but they’re not entirely to blame. Responsibility still rests on the shoulders of individuals.”

Did Social Media Take A Side

What has made it worse too is that in many cases the social platforms aren’t simply sitting on the sidelines.

“Social Media has shot itself in the foot,” explained technology entrepreneur Lon Safko, author of The Social Media Bible. “When I teach business classes, the first rule is never take a side, especially when it’s political. Everyone knows at ‘get togethers’ there are two things you never discuss, religion and politics.”

Safko warned that it seems too that social media has sided with liberal and democratic policies – to the point of pushing a progressive agenda.

“When this election is over and we all go on with our lives, everyone will remember the choices their trusted social media platforms have made,” Safko noted. “So, statistically, at least 50% of these platform users will conscientiously use that platform less or not at all. But choosing one side over the other, you automatically alienate 50% of your audience. This is always a bad business decision.”

The fact that President Trump’s statements – as unverified and disputed as those comments may be – have been called out, while the same hasn’t occurred with Biden’s supporters, certainly shows that there could be an agenda.

“In a recent poll, more than 60% of Americans now say they no longer trust social media naming Facebook in particular,” added Safko. “I agree with those polled. If our social networks are going to decide what information I get to see and what information is being censored, then I don’t want any part of them.”

Perhaps too a wiser course of action on the part of social media companies might be to curb such political commentary. This doesn’t need to ban political speech, but perhaps memes that fan the flames should be dissuaded – to help actually heal this widening divide.

Of course Trump would hate

In a sad, scary way, it makes perfect sense that President Donald Trump and his fellow conservatives would want a horror film to be shelved before its premiere.

Technically, we don’t know for sure whether “The Hunt” was pulled from theaters because of Trump’s denunciations. Certainly it is suspicious that the decision was made after the president tweeted, “Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves ‘Elite,’ but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite. The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!”

Likewise, although the studio said nothing more than that it had decided to pull the film, which stars Hilary Swank, Betty Gilpin and Emma Roberts, “after thoughtful consideration,” conservative network Fox News did celebrate the decision. “Cancelation of ‘The Hunt’ is a victory for gun-toting, Bible-clinging patriots,” Todd Starnes wrote. Dan Bongino, who substituted for Sean Hannity on Friday, depicted “The Hunt” as “the Hollywood hate machine” that was “taking its anti-Trump derangement syndrome to disturbing new levels.” Meanwhile Fox Business’ Lou Dobbs declared that “The Hunt” was a “sick, twisted new movie” and that its premise of “globalist elites hunting deplorables sounds a little too real.”

In other words: While we can’t say definitively that Universal decided to cancel “The Hunt” due to right-wing pressure, it certainly appears that the decision went their way. And that appearance alone is problematic — not only because it furthers the absurd myth that violence in media is somehow linked to the epidemic of mass shootings in America, but because it rewards political and cultural impulses that stifle a genre of fiction which is ideally well-suited to calling out real-world evils.

I haven’t seen “The Hunt” (and perhaps never will), but its premise is clearly steeped in social commentary. It tells the story of 12 strangers called “deplorables” who are hunted by wealthy elites for sport, in what is clearly an homage to the widely-taught 1924 Richard Connell short story “The Most Dangerous Game.” While the term “deplorables” suggests a contemporary Trump-related theme, there’s evidence to suspect that this may be a more populist movie, given that Blumhouse tends to produce left-wing films like “Get Out” and “The Purge” series and the term “deplorables,” though coined by Hillary Clinton to refer to Trump supporters, can be stretched to refer to any number of personality traits loathed by the upper classes (no matter who they vote for).

More important than the specific politics of “The Hunt,” though, is the fact that it uses a horrifying scenario to shed light on actual social injustices — in its case, class conflict and the mass disempowerment that results from income inequality.

Many of the best horror films have tackled similar subjects. In 1989 the underrated “Society” (directed by Brian Yuzna) applied quite literally the idea that the wealthy are so separate from the rest of humanity that they literally toy with us for their own perverted and murderous pleasures (an idea that seems all too relevant in light of the recent revelations about accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein). One year earlier, John Carpenter’s “They Live” created a fantasy world in which aliens invade the planet not to destroy our cities or wage warfare, but simply so they can exploit us through the pre-established tenets of capitalism.

Other horror movies have found other ways of commenting on economic inequality and classism. In Wes Craven’s 1991 sleeper hit “The People Under the Stairs,” the villains are landlords who go to save lengths to keep everyone else poor while they hoard money and create a sick little world in which they have seemingly absolute power. Two of George Romero’s classic zombie flicks — “Dawn of the Dead” in 1978 and “Land of the Dead” in 2005 — touch on class issues as well. In “Dawn of the Dead,” the main setting of a shopping mall is used for some sly commentary on how consumerism has turned human beings into mindless drones (the zombies lurching from store to store aren’t very different from living people doing the same thing). Twenty-seven years later, “Land of the Dead” created a troublingly convincing reality in which the same class structures that existed in a non-zombie world transfer over into a zombified one, with the zombies themselves seeming less monstrous than the proverbial one percent.

The horror genre is not limited to exploring class issues, of course. Many masterpieces have been that look at topics like racism (Clive Barker’s 1992 movie “Candyman”, Jordan Peele’s 2017 “Get Out”), sexism (Bryan Forbes’ 1975 movie “The Stepford Wives,” John Fawcett’s 2001 movie “Ginger Snaps”), homosexuality (Jack Sholder’s 1985 movie “Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge,” Kevin S. Tenney’s 1986 movie “Witchboard”) and many other hot button issues. Sometimes the movies can be overt, such as the exploration of racism in the underrated Rusty Cundieff’s “Tales from the Hood” anthology series (1995 and 2018), and sometimes it’s more subtle, such as how anti-Semitism is explored in John Landis’ 1981 movie “An American Werewolf in London” or the barbarity of eating meat is skewered in Tobe Hooper’s 1974 movie “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

Regardless, though, all of these films are linked by how they use the tropes of the horror genre — putting ordinary people in gruesome, frightening and bizarre situations where their minds, souls and/or lives are in danger — to make larger points about society. The advantage of horror is that it can strip away the conventions of straight drama, which by its nature is limited to trying to stay “realistic,” and make larger points about society by amping everything up.

In the process, great horror satire can force viewers to question whether — if the needle on reality was moved just a few degrees in one direction or the other — the seemingly impossible stories being told on screen couldn’t happen in real life.

Take “Get Out.” The genius of Jordan Peele’s premise is that it involves racists who believe that, because they are occupying black bodies and living as black people themselves, they cannot possibly be bigoted (the violated rights of the African Americans being thereby enslaved doesn’t factor into their thinking).

Or look at “They Live,” which makes a surprisingly plausible point about what an extraterrestrial invasion might actually look like simply by juxtaposing it with the way real human beings exploit each other in our neo-imperialist era (why wouldn’t aliens simply want to take advantage of us for our money, as opposed to spending their money blowing up our skyscrapers for no apparent reason?)

In “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” one of villains gleefully describes how livestock are converted into delicious meat products, foreshadowing the methods that will eventually be used to dispatch the human characters for the consumption of a family of cannibals. And in “The Stepford Wives” (the original, not the wretched and pointless remake), sexism is skewered by showing how the male expectations of women in a patriarchal society reduce them to figurative (or literal) robots.

Would “The Hunt” have achieved the incisiveness of any of its classic predecessors? I can’t say without seeing it. Nevertheless it is a testament to the power and vitality of the horror genre that one of its own could prompt such a wrathful reaction from the right. More importantly, the fact that a movie may have been shelved after pressure from a president intent on distracting the public from an epidemic of mass shootings is just a further example that our world isn’t as different from that of horror movies as we might like to think.

  Trivia Question – What do Bob Fulton, Max Krillich, Paul Vautin, Geoff Toovey and Joel Thompson have in common?

Answer – All have been bestowed with the honour of captaining the mighty maroon and white that is the Manly-Warringah RLFC. Unfortunately for poor old Joel that is where the similarities end, his predecessors all being Club legends, premiership winners, Kangaroo reps and in the case of Bob Fulton, an immortal.

Joel Thomson, whilst this year under Des Hasler is having his best season in the NRL, can only be described as a journeyman having spent most of his playing career at the Dragons and most of his Manly tenure under the tutelage of the ill-fated Trent Barrett regime. These credentials hardly the ingredients of a successful Manly captain and Joel’s deficiencies were laid bare in the 10th minute when Manly were awarded a penalty well within kicking range. With instructions from the coaching box to take the easy 2pts, the on-field decision was to press on for the try which predictably ended in nothing. Strangely the decision to forgo the shot for penalty was applauded by all and sundry in the Fox commentary team. 

Fair dinkum, these so called experts, who should know better, need to get a grip and realise that with a player roster like Manly’s at present, winning games takes precedence over the possibility (not probability as with taking the 2) of scoring tries.

Further opportunities to take the 2pts in the following 10 minutes were also declined by Manly, with such decisions coming back to bite in the overall outcome as it would take Manly until the 70th minute to open their points account. In the absence of their main attacking weapons, Cherry Baby, Jake and Tommy Turbo ….. and Lachlan Croker, Manly have very little to offer in terms of offence and the on-field leadership group need to recognise that early points are gold, and should be taken at all and every opportunity.

Penrith on the other hand, recognising their own deficiencies opened the scoring after 20 minutes when they wisely took an easy penalty from in front. Getting the ball back from the kick off (as is the case when you convert a penalty), the Panthers then fashioned a long range try from the ensuing set and the lead was extended to 8-zip. A late Panthers field goal resulted in a well deserved 9-0 lead to the home team at the break.

The early part of the second half was a mistake-athon, with both sides showing very scant respect for ball security in a display that would not be out of place in the NSW Cup. Memo to Abbas Miske (and to a lesser extent Dylan Walker)  - a 30 metre cross field run is not a 30 metre carry and whilst running sideways may be the big thing in reserve grade, in the NRL you will get mauled like a BBQ sausage dangled in front of a pack of Labradors.

Down 15-0 with only 10 minutes to play Manly finally started to play some football and tries to Manese Fanua and Cade Cust (both converted) provided some hope of a revival but in the end, it was too little, too late.

In the past 2 weeks Manly have been put to the sword by the Titans and Panthers, both of whom were running last going in the respective fixtures. Whilst the effort is still there, to some extent Manly have hit the wall and the challenge for Coach Des Hasler is to get them back on track for next week’s clash with the Cowboys.

None of this can be placed at Des Hasler’ feet. This is a Trent Barrett squad, and poor old Des has been given the largest of hospital passes to try and form this side into a top 8 team at best, and avoid the spoon as a bare minimum.

Quote of the night goes to Fox Sports commentator, Yvonne Sampson, (who possibly can be excused if indeed it transpires that she knows no better) when she said words to the effect “the great thing about these origin effected games is that we see the emergence of players that perhaps would not have normally had the opportunity in the top grade”.

As far as the Sea Eagle is concerned if watching a bunch of reserve graders run around masquerading as NRL players floats your boat so be it, but surely a better spectacle for viewers and paying fans would be the inclusion of players of the calibre of Trjobevic Cherry Baby, Nathan Cleary and co.

With that said, the Sea Eagle has now permanently banned all NRL fixtures from viewing until the Origin series is over, and the clubs and their best players have had a significant rest to make the competition worthwhile. If all the rugby league being public took a similar view, ratings would plummet, and the NRL would then have to consider a complete rethink of the way Origin interacts with the general competition. The time has come for Origin only standalone rounds and no NRL. What is being dished up as NRL now is poor, very poor and basically unwatchable, not too mention fans being deprived of seeing the best squads compete.

Players union to open ‘faith’ review as fallout deepens

The rugby players’ union (RUPA) is to set up a committee to review how players can express their faith and beliefs after the Israel Folau sacking saga. RUPA said on Tuesday the decision to tear up Folau’s Rugby Australia contract was “a sad outcome for Israel, his family, friends, teammates, opponents and all associated with rugby in Australia and around the world.” It also said Rugby Australia had not yet provided any clear parameters to the players specifying how it expects them to express their faith and beliefs in a way it considers acceptable.

“To address this, RUPA will immediately establish and undertake an Expression of Faith & Beliefs Review alongside its players, incorporating advice from those with and without strong religious beliefs,” RUPA said in a statement. RUPA is aiming to hold a first meeting of the review committee when the Super Rugby and World Sevens series seasons end and plan to invite representatives of Rugby Australia and a Super Rugby, urging them to take part.

Folau was sacked for a high-level code breach for a religiously-motivated social media post which said hell awaits homosexuals, among others, after he had previously been warned following a similar post last year.

“RUPA appreciates the difficult position which this incident has placed on Israel’s teammates and the broader professional playing group, and we will continue to support each RUPA member,” it said.

Sea Eagle Comment – this is the greatest load of gibberish tripe that the Sea Eagle has ever come across. If reviews are necessary how about Rugby Australia conducting the following

Review No 1. Why is there such a proliferation of Pacific Islanders in the Wallabies squad. At last count no less than 13 of the current squad were either born in the Pacific Islands or have very close ancestral heritage. When one of your props is known as the Tongan Thor (aka Tanelia Topou) something is inherently wrong and prompts the obvious question. Why is this man not playing for Tonga?? Let’s face it the Pacific Islanders are only playing because of the greater remuneration available for playing for the Wallabies as opposed to lining up for their countries of birth. If the governing body of world rugby was fair dinkum there would be greater (financial) incentives made available to facilitate this. The Sea Eagle also suggests that a West Indies style concept team should be formed out of the Pacific Islands (comprising from players from Samao, Tonga Fiji etc.) and be eligible for the World Cup. Such a team, at full strength would be more than competitive, would easily account for the Wallabies, most northern hemisphere teams and probably give the All-Blacks a run for their money. Of course this will never happen due to the vested interests of existing rugby world power-brokers, concerned that their own teams would (rightfully) be weakened to such an extent that they would become even more uncompetitive.

Such a move would decimate the Wallabies squad leading to the second review.

Review No 2.  Where did all the non-Pacific Islander rugby players go? A generation or so ago, the Wallabies squad was predominantly comprised of a talented array of players coming up through the Private School system (think Eales, Farr-Jones, Campese etc.) with a sprinkling of naturally gifted indigenous players (think the Ella bros). The indigenous component still exists but other traditional pathways seem to have fallen by the wayside. Simply put, in the Sea Eagle’s opinion the youth of today and especially those young men coming through the private school system have gone soft and would prefer at all cost to avoid any form of physical contact, and even more so when said physical contact involves a 100-120kg Tongan. These days the main form of activity for these young men involve an over exposure to Fortnite and the highest risk of injury being some form of RSI from streaming too much internet (possibly Youporn but who knows).

NSW Origin- the Return of Trent Barrett

Congratulations to Cherry Baby for this achievement. His CV is rolled gold. Premiership winner, Clive Churchill medallist in a losing GF team, captain of Manly, Queensland representative and now Captain of Queensland, and Australian test player. And that is before we take a look at his obvious contract negotiating genius, given the way he played both the Titans and Manly off a break to execute one of the most if not the most highly paid player contracts for a significantly long-term deal, with Manly.

It has been reported in the media that NSW has appointed ex Manly coach Trent Barrett to assist the team, the sole purpose of which apparently, is to guide NSW as to the deficiencies of Cherry Baby, the Queensland half and Captain. If this is true, then goodbye NSW.

Let us then compare the Cherry Baby CV to that of Trent Barrett. Trent Barrett: No premierships as player or coach, no Clive Churchill Medal, player for the losing Saints and the Sharks, and when coach of Manly, he was himself played off a break when he tried to manoeuvre a payout by terminating his contract early, only to find himself being paid to do nothing whilst he coaching aspirations at another club evaporated before his eyes. Granted, Trent Barrett played Origin for NSW, but then again so did Phil Duke, Ryan O’Hara, Michael Gordon, Jamal Idris, Keith Galloway, Michael Buettner, Don McKinnon, Gary Hambly, Rex Wright, Barry Jensen, Aaron Raper and Jarrod Mullen.

Well done NSW. If you want to win the 2019 Origin series, what better way to do it than this.

NSW Origin- Indigenous Players Won’t Sing The National Anthem

This brou hah ha has got everyone talking. Certain Indigenous NSW players are saying they won’t sing the national anthem on Origin night. They are of course still happy to take the coin for playing, and happy to get the extra coin being an Origin player with NRL clubs. And no doubt, happy to play for Australia if selected.

Given Origin is presumably for Australian players only, if the indigenous players do not want to be associated with Australia, they should at least be consistent about it. They can join the Kiwis, English and islander players in the NRL who are not playing Origin because presumably, they do not associate themselves as Australian.

Of course, from an NRL viewpoint it is perfectly fine to say you won’t sing the national anthem. Heaven help you though, if you express your religious beliefs about the LGBT community. Do that and not only won’t you play Origin, you won’t play NRL. At least that seems to be the position of NRL Chairman Peter Beattie vis a vis Izzy Folau.

If the Sea Eagle had his way, and there would be many who would say thankfully he doesn’t, the only excuse for not singing the national anthem, is a demonstrated inability to sing in key. There would be pre game rehearsals for this purpose to be judged by the Director of Controversy to ascertain said poor singing ability.

Anyone else who refused to sing the national anthem at Origin would get the big permanent banning, unless they chose to trial on the Voice by singing said anthem, for public viewing to show their contrition.

The banning is easily enough achieved as well. Simply pick someone else and say it is based on form or for the betterment of the team.

Change Is Good, Being Willing To Adapt , Not Necessarily So …

There’s a growing suspicion within the NFL teams , that within the league this season have failed because of a wide variety of reasons . From my own perspective , it usually comes down the same things , injuries and the unwillingness of some coaches adapting to change and the changes which come with the game . In the end it tends to cost someone their job. Clearly, that was the case with the dismissal of Ron Rivera as the Head Coach of the Carolina Panthers . Several games this season were lost by a few meager points while their injury woes continued . The team has been without their starting quarterback of the past few seasons, Cam Newton. In his place, Kyle Allen has stepped up to the plate and played admirably in spells , but at the end of the day , when the team fails , someone had to be blamed and in this case the blame was placed on the shoulders of Ron Rivera . Panthers’ GM Marty Hurney and the team’s billionaire owner David A Tepper will undoubtedly have Norv Turner takeover as the Head Coach for the remainder of the Carolina Panthers’ regular season schedule .

Ron Rivera might not be the only Head Coach to lose their job by season’s end and the clock is now ticking as to the fate of Dallas Cowboys’ Head Coach , Jason Garrett . If Garrett cannot lead this team to at least the NFC Championship Game , then in all likelihood Jerry Jones will call for his dismissal . Garrett and his game-time decision making has been an absolute nightmare for the Cowboys this season. Other than Dak Prescott , Ezekiel Elliott and a somewhat slower version of Jason Witten , this roster is simply not good enough to play consistent football at the highest levels expected. The NFC East division in which the Cowboys plays, remains the laughing stock of the NFL. A loss this weekend when the Dallas Cowboys are set to face the Chicago Bears , could set the tone for the calling of the head of Jason Garrett.

With the off-season of Major League Baseball now not quite in full swing , the teams are now lining up to ink the names of the marquee free agents now on the market, signing them to new big-time deals . Zack Wheeler was let go by the New York Mets , as the starting pitcher joined the Philadelphia Phillies , whose 2019 season was one of sheer woes all along the way. It will be interesting to see what Wheeler can provide for the Phillies this upcoming season. Seasoned veteran pitcher Cole Hamels is now off to pastures new , having joined the Atlanta Braves after his spell with the Chicago Cubs . Atlanta having won the NL East this past season and advancing the MLB Postseason , where they fell to the St Louis Cardinals in the NLDS , brought about an abrupt end to their postseason foray . This will be the season where the Atlanta Braves are to be judged by the team assembled under the managerial staff of Brian Snitker .

It has been over a decade since the New York Yankees last won the World Series and with the likely induction of Derek Jeter as the latest Yankee into the Hall of Fame in 2020. You would have to believe that the front office and owners would like to see this team succeed once again. . With a team payroll just shy of $200 million , principal owner Hal Steinbrenner is looking to keep that figure below MLB’s luxury tax threshold . . Aaron Boone as the team manager has yet to make any major personnel decisions adding to the player-roster to date . Their Spring Training Schedule will likely provide the managerial staff time to assess some players who will be invitees and those newly acquired.

The failure of the Los Angeles Dodgers during the MLB Postseason signifies that you can’t continue to over spend and then have nothing to show for it by way of anything tangible. . It will be interesting to see if the Dodgers enter what could turn out to be a wild free agency market of available players. . With Gerrit Cole being among the biggest of the free agents still available , the Dodgers could make a play for the AL starting pitcher who still remains an interesting option for his current team the Houston Astros . It has been over three decades since the Dodgers won the World Series and their postseason sojourns since then have been abysmal . . This year will tell us a great deal about this team it’s mindset as well as that of the managerial staff .

Veteran forward Carmelo Anthony who’s return to the NBA , saw him joining the Portland Trailblazers , where he has been one of the major highlights of the team’s season to date . Over his last six games Anthony is proving that his sea-legs still have a long way to go. As a member of the 2003 NBA Draft Class , considered to be one of the best over the past two decades. It’s still hard to imagine that this player has never won an NBA title . It will be interesting to see how the Trailblazers fare through the month of December and over the rest of their regular season schedule. Their next two games , will see the Blazers in action against the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma Thunder in two consecutive home games at the Moda Center in Portland Oregon.

As the season enters it’s Christmas Schedule , the teams vying for the best records will undoubtedly be looking to prove a point. . There will be five games being played, highlighted by the Los Angeles Lakers taking on the Los Angeles Clippers , as two of the league’s best players face off against each other with LeBron James of the Lakers facing Kawhi Leonard of the Clippers.

Well , so much for the New York Knicks and their season to date , with the team among the worst in the league and their record being so bad . It is hard to find a compliment that befits the Knicks , other than to suggest they have some real issues. There is nothing to suggest the Knicks can win their division much less compete within the Eastern Conference. Up next for the Knicks will be a game against the Indiana Pacers at their home court of Madison Square Gardens , New York City , New York.. The team’s Head Coach David Fizdale has struggled to get the best out of his players while the front office is clearly already bereft of ideas. There are rumors now amidst that Fizdale will be fired after the Knicks’ dreadful start . His replacement is likely to someone currently on the coaching staff or Knicks’ President Steve Mills may well seek to hire a former coach, who’s now currently on the staff of another NBA team .

It was meant to be a rematch, with the fans there in attendance for the Heavyweight Title bout between Anthony Joshua and champion Andy Ruiz was meant to be something competitive , Instead , the defending champion , Ruiz put up a poor display , losing the title he won convincingly in their first fight . With Joshua reclaiming the belts , he can now look forward to a possible about against the winner of the upcoming bout between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder . If the anticipation is what it is , then the potential unification bout between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder could be the biggest fight in recent boxing Heavyweight history. I fully expect Wilder to get the better of Tyson Fury in their rematch which is scheduled for the 22nd February , 2020 , though the venue has yet to be set. . In all likelihood the venue could very well be the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vega, Nevada,.

Luckily enough with vacancies now in Washington with the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia with the Philadelphia Phillies, Girardi has his pick of two viable alternatives. Though I do expect there to be one or two more possible vacancies coming up within the next few weeks.

Joe Girardi was able to guide the New York Yankees to a World Series’ title in 2009 , but since then, their appearances in the postseason have often ended in failure before the Fall Classic itself. Brian Cashman general manager of the Yankees’ organization is also in the last season of his existing contract and the siblings controlling the ball-club, Hal Steinbrenner and Hank Steinbrenner have not expressed their sentiments in keeping Cashman in his current role. If changes are to be made concerning the roles of the manager and general manager then now would be the time to do it. Gary Denbo was allowed to leave the organization to join Derek Jeter within the front office of the Miami Marlins , where Jeter now serves in the role of Chief Executive Officer while Denbo serves in his capacity as Vice President, Player Development & Scouting .

In terms of a new manager, where the New York Yankees go from here is anyone’s guess , as they could promote from within to fill the vacancy left with the departure of Joe Girardi or they could go out and seek a more high-profiled name to succeed Girardi. One thing is certain , the core of this roster , where several of the younger players made their mark this season. It leaves this ball-club in a very healthy situation, though I do believe several of their highly overpaid veterans ought to be shown the door because of their lack of productivity. I don’t believe there can be any justification for the return of CC Sabathia , Matt Holliday , Jacoby Ellsbury , Michael Pineda and Aroldis Chapman . I know that the Yankees like to do things a certain way , but when you’re shelling out over $20 million a year and getting very little in return . Then , there comes a time when you have to rethink your strategy entirely.

Ideas above their station and the belief, they continue to remain relevant . It has been several years since the Florida Gators were striking fear into their opponents. This season , the only thing being struck are the players’ egos , as they realize they’re way in over their heads, while the coaching staff of Jim McElwain looks to take down not an opponent, but fans who have become sick and tired of the mediocrity shown by the team . After a recent game , McElwain could be seen berating a fan who called for the dismissal of the entire coaching staff. It’s funny , I was under the impression some college coaches were thick-skinned. Clearly, Jim McElwain’s skin is softer than a baby’s ass and is of a really delicate nature . The loss to Texas A&M brought about the capitulation of the Gators’ season and the end to their postseason hopes of a playoff berth. Up next for the Florida Gators will be a game against the number three-ranked Georgia (Bulldogs) to be played at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville , Florida on Saturday 28th October , 2017 .

Nick Saban will continue to rewrite the history books in terms of modern College Football . His legacy is there for all to bear witness to. With the number one ranked team in the nation , Saban has Alabama (8-0) firing on all cylinders as they look to have another unbeaten season. Their upset loss in the national title game to Clemson were what dreams are made off as Clemson in a game of cat-and-mouse , beat their more well-established opponent . The path to this season’s national title game will be a pleasant one for Alabama , as they have nothing else left to lose , other than their dignity. Dabo Sweeny and his fans knows that the program still has a great deal to live up to . In week nine Clemson will to face Georgia Tech . Alabama for its part will be looking to make it nine consecutive wins in a row when they take on LSU (Tigers) on the 4th November , 2017 .

The number of unbeaten teams in the NBA now stands at three , with the Los Angeles Clippers (3-0) , Portland Trailblazers (3-0) and the San Antonio Spurs (4-0) being the only franchises without a loss. Pretty much safe to say by the end of the season all of the teams will have suffered a defeat . On Thursday night there were five games taking place with the most interesting being the contest between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics . For the Bucks, Giannis Antetkounmpo has lived up to the expectations based on his performances of last season for the team . This season Antetkounmpou has proven to be equally effective alongside a considerably improved starting lineup. The next game for the Milwaukee Bucks will be a match-up against the Atlanta Hawks on the road at the Philips Arena in Atlanta , Georgia on October 29th .

At this moment in time I believe Giannis Antetkounmpo to be one of the top-ten centers in the league and among the best forwards now playing !

It will certainly be interesting to see what the Milwaukee Bucks are capable of achieving this season within their division as well as the league overall . I don’t see them a s fifty-win team, but they are certainly able to play themselves into contention, f we see the coaching acumen of Jason Kidd rise to the fore. He is by far in a way one of the most innovative coaches in the league today , though not yet on the plateau of Gregg Popovich , the five-time championship winning coach. Popovich has been able to coach All Stars , but he has also been able to groom and develop talent turning them into All Stars . Those claims cannot be made for the likes of Phil Jackson , Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra , because they were handed the keys to a Ferrari and then merely asked to take it for a spin before going on their respective journeys. Doubt my word , then simply look at the facts ?

Gregg Popovich continues to be a miracle worker and his record is remarkable. This season the San Antonio Spurs are without their best player , Kawhi Leonard , but somehow they remain in contention . Once Leonard is back in the starting lineup , then I expect to see this team really challenge the likes of the Golden State Warriors , Houston Rockets , Los Angeles Clippers and the Oklahoma City Thunder within the Western Conference . As contentious and competitive as that conference continues to be , by contrast the Eastern Conference will remain mediocre. Those who are on the know cannot deny that very fact. Popovich will lead the San Antonio Spurs out for their next game against the Orlando Magic , as he seeks to win the one thousand one hundred and fifty-fifth regular season of his professional coaching career.

Injuries we know tend to plague a season no matter what the professional sport and it is the case once again within the NBA. How the teams fare will be dependent upon what the coaches seek to do in rearranging their lineups from day to-day. Midway into month-three of the schedule , I believe the teams will have found their rhythm while playing some competitive basketball.

So all of the hoopla and hype cannot hide the fact of what we already know , the Miami Dolphins are not a very good team . Having lost Ryan Tannehill for the regular season , the front office saw fit to seek out the retired Jay Cutler , offer him a one-year $10 million deal . Adam Gase seemingly had no faith in Matt Moore who led the team to the postseason in 2016 , in one of the Dolphins’ most recent appearances. Cutler’s lack of consistency has derailed any hopes they may have had within the AFC East as well as obtaining a postseason berth within the AFC . The team’s defense cannot mask the fact they’re simply not that good to begin with. With Jay Cutler now suffering an injury , it would appear team owner Stephen Ross will continue to tow the league line by having nothing to do with Colin Kaepernick . This might well come from the fact in recent weeks under the advice of his legal counsel , Kaepernick has filed a grievance within the US Federal Courts with the charges of collusion by the NFL and team owners . There may well be grounds for the suit, but the preponderance of proof will be by that of the plaintiff and his being able to prove his case. However , what has been glaringly obvious team owners have paid this issue very little lip service , while NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell continues to hide behind a great deal of rhetoric while in the background. What also is astoundingly clear, the NFLPA leadership and their Executive Director DeMaurice Smith have shown very little support for Kaepernick.

The Baltimore Ravens played host to the Miami Dolphins in a Thursday night game played at London’s Wembley Stadium . This match-up proved to be eventful as Joe Flacco was lost the Ravens , even though they routed their opponents in a 40- 0 clubbing of Miami. Matt Moore’s performance itself was far from satisfactory and it should tell you something that prior to the start of the game , Miami had seen fit to sign David Fales to a contract. As I alluded to earlier , I do believe there are grounds for Colin Kaepernick to proceed with his suit against the NFL. Now his detractors are likely to suggest that Kaepernick is not that great a player if you base it on his play during 2016 , but I would suggest he is far from being the worst quarterback in the league last season and his statistics would be favorable over number of players in the league who have played two or more games in the league during this season . If we really want to make comparisons concerning the ability of Colin Kaepernick and how he measures up against Jay Cutler and Joe Flacco , perhaps we might take a look at their statistics .

As for understanding the reasons behind Colin Kaepernick’s stance , let’s just say when it comes to real activism by the NFL , it tends to favor their making money and placing what they believe to be a pristine image rather than actually taking a noticeable stance. As for the issue of privilege , be it Black or White , let’s just say that whole issue has never been addressed in the true sense of the word . Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones suggests that the players on the Cowboys’ roster are his property. Last I looked, in spite of their current mediocre record , the Cowboys wasn’t a plantation , but I am beginning to deduce Jones’ slave mentality approach is something that might be shared by several of his fellow owners .

Donald Trump’s idiotic rants calling for the NFL players to be fired from their teams for showing a lack of patriotism when the national anthem is played., indicates he has no concept as to the rule of law , let alone the issue of free speech ( freedom of expression) , yet he considers it appropriate to denigrate people of color and the families of fallen war veterans , using the language and tact you’d come to expect of a highly uneducated person. My bad , I forgot his education at Brown University and Wharton Business School actually allows him that privilege. Bigoted ‘white privilege ‘ run amok . Jerry Jones like Donald Trump , they don’t lack candor , but what they do lack, is respect for another person’s right to express themselves freely. What might be even more hypocritical about the owner , has been his willingness to support players on his team who’ve ran afoul of the law under suspicion for acts of battery , spousal abuse and even felonious assault. The reason behind his support , simply from the fact, it would lessen the chance of the Dallas Cowboys winning a game.
