• W A R S A W • Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanów Masovian Voivodeship NOVEMBER 2021 4 of 4 The museum at the Wilanów palace is the oldest Polish museum of art. It was established in 1805, on the initiative of the then-current owners of the palace, Aleksandra Potocka and Stanisław Kostka Potocki. In 1877, the museum was popularised with the publication of Wilanów. Album widoków i pamiątek (Wilanów: An Album of Vistas and Remembrances), a book by Hipolit Skimbrowicz and Wojciech Gerson. The year 1893, on the other hand, saw the publication of a guide to the palace at Wilanów and its art collection. After World War II, due to the agrarian reform, the Wilanów property was claimed by the state. From the late 1940’s until the mid-1950’s, collections previously taken to Germany, Austria and the Soviet Union were retrieved. In 1995, the Museum Palace in Wilanów was separated from the National Museum and placed under direct control of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Since 2006, the Museum Palace in Wilanów has been a member of ARRE – the Association of European Royal Residences. In September 2013, the Museum changed its name to the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów. For many years, the Museum was headed by Dr. Wojciech Fijałkowski. Since 2002, this function has been performed by Paweł Jaskanis. #warsaw #heritage #history #testimonial #culturalspace #muzeumpałacukrólajanaiiiwwilanowie #wilanow #royalpalace #exhibition #artcollection #baroque #neoclassical #rococo #nationalheritage #ministryofculture #arre #associationofeuropeanopenairmuseums (at Muzeum Pałacu Króla Jana III w Wilanowie) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXOd5w0M_CwJNWjPgOBhAyHhmwZKjPAgE1DzRo0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hyperallergic: Green Point Projects Presents an Exhibition of Work by Stanisław Fijałkowski
Stanisław Fijałkowski, “A Young Man Plans a Voyage — February 3 1973 (1973), acrylic on canvas, 39.3 x 28.7 inches
Opening: Wednesday, May 10, 7–9 pm
Green Point Projects, a new cultural initiative in Brooklyn located in a repurposed warehouse in an industrial part of Greenpoint, are pleased to announce Stanisław Fijałkowski: A Young Man Plans a Voyage, an exhibition curated by Marek Bartelik.
The inaugural exhibition examines the work of ninety-five year old Polish artist Stanislaw Fijalkowski, one of the pioneers of post-war lyrical abstraction derived from constructivism and surrealism.
As curator of the exhibition Marek Bartelik says: “I perceive Fijałkowski as one of the most ‘discrete’ and quiet Polish artists today. I know very few artists who have managed to retain such great calmness in art — and to express much with so little: a few lines and a few colors, an allusion to a theme or a motif, a trace, a void. “Minimalism,” yes, but not devoid of emotions, sometimes explicit, sometimes even whimsical, always unexpected.”
Stanislaw Fijalkowski was born in 1922 and currently lives and works in Łódź, Poland. Between 1947-51, Fijałkowski studied painting and graphic arts with the renowned Constructivist Władysław Strzemiński, among others, at the State Art College in Łódź. His works are included in the collections of MoMA, New York; Tate Gallery, London; Trietriakov Gallery, Moscow, and the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź among others as well as in numerous private collections in Poland and abroad. Media inquiries: Bartek Remisko PR — [email protected].
Stanisław Fijałkowski: A Young Man Plans a Voyage opens at Green Point Projects (27 Gem Street, Greenpoint, Brooklyn) on May 11 and continues through June 30. The exhibition is open Thursday-Saturday, 12–6pm and Sunday-Wednesday by appointment: 347 386 8508
