AudioSecratica: A hollow, wispy, and foggy, yet heavy gender; storied and emotionally complicated. It’s surrounded at the bottom with light gray smoke, and has thin wisps of washed-out purple, teal, blue, and/or pinkish violet smoke floating around and encircling it. The wisps all have a soft, faint glow, each color has a unique colored glow; the purple ones glow pink-violet, the teal ones glow yellow, the blue ones glow green-cyan, and the pinkish violet ones glow peach. It has a thick, melancholy energy surrounding it. This gender is inspired by the Stone Sour album Audio Secrecy and may be related to it, though it doesn’t have to be.

Walau Slipknot membuat kiprah penting mereka diakhir tahun 90-a, vokalis Corey Taylor serta gitaris Jim Root memperoleh awal mereka sekian tahun awalnya di Stone Sour. Di inspirasi oleh Metallica serta Alice in Chains, barisan habiskan sekian tahun bermain circuit bar Iowa sebelum Taylor serta Root masuk dengan Slipknot. Wow, Hydrograd sounds kind of weird but interesting. It kind of feels like the complete opposite of House of Gold and Bones. That one was more of a serious high concept record, while on this one it sounds like they’re having a lot of fun.

I’d describe it as them keeping things mostly rock, but playing around with certain sounds. It sounds like a lot of the experimentation involves quirky effects and melodies this time around while retaining a lot of their heaviness, rather than dialing down on it like on Come What(ever) May and Audio Secrecy. I’d probably describe this as their most rocking record, but in a weird way, a lot of the songs sound less like typical rock songs compared to much of their earlier material.

I think my favourite song on it so far (besides “Song #3″ and “Mercy”) is probably “Rose Red Violent Blue (This Song Is Dumb & So Am I)”. There’s something about the groove and chords during the verse that sounds silky to my ears. “Whiplash Pants” also sounded unexpectedly intense, and I like the mid-tempo heaviness of the title track and the bleak atmosphere of “When the Fever Broke”.

I thought maybe--like Audio Secrecy back in the day--the album was going to be a bit of a grower for me, since the songs kind of caught me off guard upon first listen. But upon listening to each of them again, I’m pretty hooked.

At the same time though, I’m getting more of a “collection of songs” vibe rather than an album vibe from it. It clocks in at just over 65 minutes, and so requires pretty sustained attention for a full listen. And at least based on my initial impression, the final song order feels a little disjointed to me. As a result, I keep going back to individual songs again and again rather than listening to it in full. But maybe this will change as I get more familiar with the album.

I’ve filled up my entire queue for the day with a little more than half of the songs from the album via Stone Sour’s official YouTube channel. I hope my followers don’t mind.
