Crosstown Concourse

Originally a Sears distribution warehouse which opened in 1927, the property had been vacant since 1993. Crosstown Concourse has recently been converted into a city within the city, reopening in 2017 (90 years after its original grand opening) as a multi-use property that includes shops, a grocery market, apartments, art spaces, a YMCA, a non-profit medical facility, a high school, a performing arts center, a radio station, and more. Crosstown hosts numerous events such as an Asian Night Market, an artisan fest, concerts, performances, art installations, to name a few.

Julius Rosenwald, the chairman of the board of directors of Sears Roebuck & Co., was also a philanthropist who, together with Booker T. Washington, established a fund to assist African Americans in the South with more equitable opportunities for education and vocational training. His investments and vision have had lasting impacts on Memphis and the greater Mid-South.

The apple, swirling like a vortex, appears sewn shut — an unavoidable reality of sin, already irreversible.

The mysterious gaze of Satan hides within the lines of the form, whispering of the delicate edge between light and shadow.

A single breast symbolizes the loss of wholeness, while a cross, born from the apple, marks the transition from the fall to redemption.

This artwork is not merely visual — it is a reflection on beginning and end, on how the path to salvation is born within the fall itself.

alright, I’m annoyed with the class that I’m taking. it’s about writing novels, and I thought it would have cool stuff about balancing your narrative and developing themes etc, but instead she spent the first class talking about how every book fits into the Hero’s Journey (the monomyth template). and I was somewhat of a contrarian, and said “can you give us examples of books that don’t fit into this template?” and she said “no. because all books fit.”

but I dunno man, I just finished reading this Korean book where the plot is just the character having a string of hookups and reflecting on them without changing in any way. I don’t know if it’s possible to contort that into the Hero’s Journey.
