Student Base | A Niche Social Networking Platform for Students

At TESLA Learning Center, nurturing innovation and challenging excellence is at the core of everything. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce one of our biggest projects till date. The venture is called Student Base - https://www.studentbase.online

Following the launch of TESLA's International Student Recruitment Hub, we have been working tirelessly on this project, which will shape the next era for TESLA Learning and connect a vast number of students from all backgrounds with each other, with access to the best learning resources provided by educators, institutions and industry experts worldwide.

We envisage it to become the go-to network for international students, so they have a place of belonging, instead of other generic and cluttered social networking platforms. As a niche social network, it is targeted specifically on international students interested in studying abroad or students already studying abroad.

EDD: How do the cultures of your staff, students, and community play out in your school?

My staff are all from fairly affluent white families with a lot of the same standards of behavior, traditions and practices.

In theory the gulf between them and our predominantly white studentbase should be relatively minimal but what I'm finding is that subcultural differences are tremendous to the point of making dialog almost impossible. My colleagues pathologize some of the legitimate, if different, cultural practices of our students.

To make things worse, my district is fairly diverse and the amount of self-segregation by the students is severe. But worse than that is the cultural hegemony of the staff as far as activities are concerned. Pretty standard battery of holiday stuff, questions and soft-skills instruction that privileges specific types of backgrounds.

I've tried to make gains but there's just been tons of pushback.
