Not really an ask.. but i saw ur bio said, got an original character? Or 7? My friend has over 160! And she’s slowly dragging me into it, any tips on how to get started in the oc community?
Let me first say welcome! And thank you for messaging me! It would be an honor help you get ready to take the plunge into the world of OCs!
★ Your friend has an impressive amount of OCs! My first suggestion would be to see if she has any OCs that she would be interested in having a "counterpart" to that she would allow you to make for yourself. This way, you can start to see traits or quirks or other personality tidbits that you like, while still being on a kind of path, since you're creating an OC to "pair" with your friend's OC.
★ Use any daydreams you have to form a story. Usually the characters will come into play as needed. This may sound insane to newcomers, but will probably make sense to those with multiple OCs in a single setting.
★ Make a fandom OC. Choose a pre-existing universe, and make a character that fits into that universe. Add a new hero to the Avengers, create a Jedi, enroll a new student into Hogwarts, send a new tribute to the Hunger Games — it's up to you! Take canon into your own hands!
★ Make a PC into an OC. Similar to the above idea, choose a game that allows for customization, choices, and has a big universe. RPGs are usally good for this, such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls. The PC (player character) can then be your OC! Not only do you still get to take canon into your own hands, but now you even have a visual representation of them right at the start.
★ If you're into roleplaying, you can probably find a group that seeks original characters, or at least pre-made characters that allow for customization. Then you can use the pre-made character and customize it as you go along, or make up an OC with the basics (name, age, gender, etc.) and add more as needed.
★ Now, combining the two above ideas, rolling a character for a tabletop RPG like Dungeons & Dragons or Pathfinder can be one of the best ways to make an OC. There's rules you have to follow when making the character (mostly number-related things), but there is more than enough room for customization. Plus, if you ever get around to playing that character in an actual campaign, your character is going to end up with so much character development, it might make other OCs jealous.
★ Join a site that allows for customizable avatars or pets (like Gaia, Subeta, or Flight Rising) and create OCs based on your avatars or pets. The items you use can be your inspiration. Similarly, find a doll making website (like Doll Divine) and create OCs based on your creations.
★ Make a self-insert OC. The OC doesn't necessarily need to look and act the exact way you do, but you'll have a much easier time developing them. Perhaps you've always wanted hair that was not only bright green, but defies gravity. Well, guess what? Your OC wants the same thing, so now you can live vicariously through your OC.
These are only a few ways to go about creating OCs. I encourage you to check out the resources tag for other helpful tips. My inbox is open if you have more questions, though I recommend doing so off anon so that we might have an actual discussion! I'm sure the creators reading this also have some input to help you out as well, so make sure to read the notes!
Oh, and don't forget to check out other blogs! I do hope you browse my blog regularly, of course, but I'm only one of many resources out there. :)
Good luck, and have fun! ♥

Someone with the know-how seriously needs to revive or create a successor to Arvee. Regardless of that not being its primary purpose, it was essentially the most versatile Internet paper-doll creator out there.
