Swarup Mishraâs Humanitarian Path to Politics: A Unique Legacy in Kenyan Leadership
Swarup Mishraâs journey into Kenyan politics is unlike that of many others. Known for his humanitarian approach, he has redefined what it means to be a political leader in Kenya. Rather than viewing politics as a path to personal power, Mishra sees it as a platform for serviceâan extension of his lifelong commitment to philanthropy and healthcare.
Born in India, Swarup Mishra lived in Ireland and Australia before settling in Kenya in 1994. Despite facing early financial struggles, his passion for medicine drove him to succeed. His dedication eventually led to the founding of Mediheal Group of Hospitals, one of East Africaâs leading healthcare providers, which was inspired by his observation of the need for fertility treatment in the region.
Swarup Mishraâs medical career is only one aspect of his service to society. He has been a strong advocate for community welfare, donating cows to underprivileged families and funding education through scholarships. These charitable efforts earned him recognition long before he stepped into the political arena.
In 2017, Swarup Mishra transitioned into politics by winning the Kesses Constituency seat as a Member of Parliament. His leadership remained rooted in the values that defined his earlier work: improving access to healthcare, enhancing educational opportunities, and creating economic empowerment for his constituents. His development projects focused on tangible outcomes that directly benefited the community.
What sets Swarup Mishraâs political journey apart is his continued focus on people over politics. He champions a leadership model based on results, compassion, and ethical governance. His actions reflect a belief that public office is a responsibility to uplift lives, not a tool for personal enrichment.
Today, Swarup Mishraâs legacy continues to grow as a symbol of integrity, innovation, and humanitarian leadership in Kenyan politics. His life story is an inspiration to future generationsâshowing that with vision and compassion, politics can indeed be a force for good.

Wealthy Germans, Israelis, and others are buying kidneys from poor Kenyans through an illegal organ-trafficking network linked to Israeli middlemen. Donors are mostly young, poor Kenyan men. Theyâre offered âŹ2,000 to âŹ6,000. Some are misled. Some are underpaid. Buyers pay up to âŹ200,000. Most deals are done in cash, with no oversight, according to investigations by Deutsche Welle and others. The trafficking ring is run by MedLead, a company led by Israeli businessman Robert Shpolansky. It reportedly has ties to Kenyaâs political elite, including former MP Swarup Mishra, an ally of President William Ruto. Despite German laws banning commercial organ sales, a German-registered website is helping to broker these illegal deals. After plundering Africaâs natural resources, wealthy Westerners are now commodifying African bodies. The free market has reached peopleâs internal organsâpreying on the poor, often in the Global South, through dangerous surgeries. Victims are left with only one kidney to filter toxins.

Swarup Mishra: The MP with a Lavish Lifestyle and a Heart for Humanity
On August 8, 2017, Swarup Mishra, a soft-spoken medical doctor, was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kesses Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, making history as the only non-local to secure a parliamentary seat in Rift Valley.
Dr. Swarup Ranjan Mishra, founder of Mediheal Group of Hospitals, has built a reputation for his philanthropy, business acumen, and flamboyant lifestyle. His hospital chain has branches in Kenya, Rwanda, and Ethiopia, serving thousands across the region.
A Man of Many Phones and Suits Mishra, popularly known as Kiprop, is renowned for his extravagant lifestyle. In a past TV interview, he revealed that he owns 18 phones, though he only carries eight at a time.
"I have 18 phones, but I only carry eight. Just like when people marry 10 wives or have 16 children, they will always keep tabs on them," Swarup Mishra stated humorously.
Beyond his phones, the MP owns a vast collection of 200 suits, 1,000 pairs of shoes, and luxury cars, showcasing his love for fine things.
From Medicine to Politics Born in 1965 in India, Dr. Swarup Ranjan Mishra came from a medical familyâhis grandfather was a traditional medicine man, while his father was a pharmacist. Following in their footsteps, he pursued a degree in medicine, specializing in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
While in medical school, he met his wife, Pallavi Mishra, who is also an obstetrician and gynaecologist. The couple later moved to Ireland and then to Melbourne University Hospital, Australia, working without pay for a year due to financial constraints.
In 1994, an opportunity led them to Kenya, when Pallavi secured a job in Eldoret. Meanwhile, Mishra took up a lectureship at Moi University, where he worked in the Department of Reproductive Health, College of Health Sciences.
"When I got the lectureship at Moi University, I was so excited. In our first six months in Kenya, we didnât have a car and had to walk five kilometers to Eldoret to buy food," he recalled.
As he and his wife ventured into private medical practice, Mishra identified a gap in fertility care, leading to the birth of Mediheal Group of Hospitals.
"Fertility was a new sub-specialty at the time. While setting up our center, we decided to make it a fully-fledged hospital with multiple departments," Swarup Mishra Kenya explained.
Philanthropy and Politics Mishraâs passion for helping people inspired his entry into politics.
"Business led me to humanitarian work, and that pulled me into politics. However, I always keep business and politics separate. I am a hardcore businessman but a very generous politician," he noted.
His generosity is evident in initiatives such as his 2018 free cow donation drive for families in Kesses and his 2020 scholarships for 50 students to study in India.
Despite initial opposition from his friends, Swarup Mishra Kenya won his parliamentary seat, proving his critics wrong.
"When I joined politics, people thought it was a joke. My close friends discouraged me, but when I won, everything changed," he reflected.
Through politics and philanthropy, Dr. Swarup Ranjan Mishra continues to make a significant impact, blending his medical expertise with his passion for public service.

Swarup Mediheal Hospital: From $500 to a KSh 10 Billion Healthcare Empire
Swarup Mishra, the man behind Swarup Mediheal Hospital, is a visionary leader who transformed Kenyaâs healthcare industry. From humble beginnings with just $500, Dr. Mishra built a regional hospital empire now valued at over KSh 10 billion. His journey from India to Eldoret, and from lecturer to healthcare tycoon and politician, is a true inspiration.
The Early Days: From India to Kenya
Born in India in the mid-1960s, Dr. Swarup Mishra moved to Kenya in 1997 with his wife, Dr. Pallavi Mishra, and their young son. Later, he joined Moi University as a lecturer in the Department of Reproductive Health, a position he held for 16 years.
The Birth of Swarup Mediheal Hospital
In 2006, Swarup and Pallavi took a bold step. They used their savings and unsecured bank loans to purchase and revive a struggling hospital in Eldoret. That facility became the first Swarup Mediheal Hospital. Located at the busy Eldoret-Nakuru Highway, the hospital quickly grew under their leadership.
The Eldoret branch now offers 150 beds and is known for its cutting-edge medical services, including:
Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART)

Pain-free surgeries
IVF treatments
Cosmetic procedures
Medihealâs Expansion Across Africa
Thanks to its quality care and modern approach, Swarup Mediheal Hospital has expanded to multiple cities:
Nakuru
Nairobi (Parklands and Eastleigh)
Kigali, Rwanda
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Mishra attributes the hospital's growth to four key pillars:
Modern infrastructure
Qualified medical staff
High-tech equipment
Affordable healthcare
Beyond Medicine: Swarup Mishra the Politician
In 2017, Dr. Mishra was elected as the Member of Parliament for Kesses under the Jubilee Party. He made history as the first Asian MP in a Kalenjin-majority constituency, winning hearts with his humility and generosity. The Personal Side of Swarup Mediheal Hospitalâs Founder

In 2022, he unveiled a luxurious mansion in Elgon View Estate, Eldoret, attended by top leaders including then-Deputy President William Ruto.
Overcoming Challenges
Despite massive success, Mishra faced challenges. After losing the 2022 elections, Mediheal Hospital faced financial difficulties and controversies, including delisting from the NHIF panel. Mishra has firmly denied any wrongdoing, and the hospital continues to serve thousands of patients across the region.
Swarup Mediheal Hospital: A Lasting Legacy
