I’m hella stoked for how Jojo’s gonna handle Legend’s knighthood backstory?? 👀

On the surface he’s so vocally critical of knights—& even seems to be rejecting his own heritage by claiming to be an “average nobody.”

But here he looks—almost sad. Conflicted. 👀 It’s hard to say exactly where Jojo’s going with this, but I get the feeling it’s gonna be an actual character arc & I’m so hyped for it. 🔥

Like—listen! He & his uncle are the last of a dying bloodline. Course, Legend seems understandably critical of knighthood as a structure, but there being an undercurrent of melancholy through it all is *chefs kiss. 👌 Bro has a reason to hate knighthood, but also reasons for melancholy…

There are several directions Jojo can go with that & hoo boy am I looking 👀.

The Monoma Meta Nobody Asked For

I don’t remember who it was on Reddit that said it makes sense for Monoma to be one of the most empathetic characters in BNHA cuz of his Quirk, (his quirk allows him to walk in the shoes of other people in ways most will never be able to even if for 5 minutes at a time), but let’s talk about it for a minute.

Monoma is a character full of contradictions but there’s a method to the madness. 

Let’s take a real deep look at the manga shall we?

It’s pretty much canon that Monoma trash talks 1-A so much in-part b/c he cares that much... too much... about his own classmates.  It’s implicitly obvious based on the way he interacts with his classmates and phrases his rants at class 1-A. 

The fact that he’s obviously influenced by Vlad is just the cherry on top. 

He’s prideful of not just himself but also his friends.  Let’s break down the nuances there.

Ch196 above, Ch207 below.

Empathy

The kid has a way with words. 

The kid has a weirdly poetic way with words.

He goes out of his way to encourage or reassure his classmates in a deeply thoughtful manner at every given opportunity.

He hyped up Setsuna Tokage before her battle with Bakugo and we saw him grin in pride when Komori took down Tokoyami. 

Whenever Monoma does criticize his classmates, it’s always frank, honest, but constructive, with the intention to help them improve.  He’s even contrasted with his own teacher for being relatively more kind in the delivery of his criticism (see the next screenshot).  Given that Monoma’s shown to be strongly influenced by Vlad, this particular difference stands out.

You never see an anime/manga character get fancifully philosophical & genuinely helpful like this unless they are an adult, usually the MC’s mentor.  Monoma’s legit acting more like an anime mentor than any of Deku’s multiple mentors.  lmfaooo.

Realistically speaking, all of this, the philosophical speeches & level-headed advice, takes an incredible amount of emotional & mental labor.  The kid’s practically doing half of Vlad’s job for him.

It’s during the joint training arc we begin to see why his classmates put up with him and are on friendly terms despite how obnoxious & cheesy he can be & how often they need to keep him in check.

It’s clear even as far back as the sports festival that his classmates don’t actually hate him, despite the smacks & tough love they also just shake their heads with a smile on their face as they say “sorry about him,” cuz that’s just the way he is.  They love him anyways.

He’s an annoying little sh*t but he’s their annoying little sh*t.  Perhaps they even realize why he acts the way he does towards class 1-A, it’s because he cares too much.

Putting Up An Act

I think there’s actually even more to it when it comes to his rowdy & brash behaviors. 

Monoma is empathetic because of how his Quirk works.  He needs to learn to use the Quirks of others in order to become a hero.  In doing so he logically needs to become privy to all the Quirk’s weaknesses, not just their strengths.  Not only does he need to become privy to these often deeply personal details of one’s lived life, he needs to experience them, even if for just five minutes at a time.  It’s natural, even necessary, for Monoma to become exceptionally close to his classmates.

But he’s only like that because of how his Quirk works.  It’s his naturally nurtured self.  His conscious self, though, is notably different.

What we see when Monoma says he and Shinsou need to do unheroic things to get by is not his naturally nurtured self, but is a conscious decision.

At some point in his life, Monoma came to the conclusion that being too kindhearted all the time will be weakness.  This is clearly implied, almost outright stated when we heard Monoma’s thoughts when faced with Deku’s Black Whip, “All of the hopes and dreams in my mind from when I was younger are gradually becoming these heavy burdens... like some sort of curse.”  I am 99.999% sure it’s Monoma’s thoughts being shown there because the speech pattern & context don’t match up to Shinsou or Midoriya at all.

Basically, Monoma is a little sh*t because he saw his own empathy as a weakness, and overcompensates for it.  He’s trained himself to be brash & mischievous, likely from a very young age given how consistently brash he is.  We can see a little bit of this when interacting with his class-B classmates as well.

It was @thyandrawrites​ who first noticed this in this post, but here we see Monoma scolding Kendou after losing the beauty contest, giving perhaps too much tough love & TetsuTetsu steps in to Kendou’s defense.

Given how Monoma during the Joint Training arc clearly said everything he did to motivate his friends to do better, this is likely not an isolated occurrence.  The dude cares way too goddamn much for anyone’s good.

Yet there’s something else up with the guy too, something else that contributes even more to his unhealthy obsession with the rivalry vs class-A.  The dude has some serious self-esteem issues but is too prideful to seek real help.

Self-doubt

The fact that he’s the only member of class-B who failed the midterm despite having an intelligence stat of 5/5 speaks for itself.

Him failing the academic exam would be a sign of serious issues going on under the surface in itself, him failing the practical means he probably failed b/c he couldn’t hold his own and his teammate had to pick up the slack.

Him failing b/c he held back his teammate would have hit very close to home since we now know he was told “You can’t be a hero if you can’t do anything yourself” since he was a kid.

Basically, yet another reason he continues to antagonize class-A is a textbook example of someone pushing their insecurities onto someone or something else.

For something often played off as comedic relief there’s a lot of layers as to why Monoma does what he does.

But wait, there’s f*cking more.  There’s actually a particular reason Monoma expresses his insecurities in this unhealthy manner, and that reason ties into what I’ve already begun to address about his empathy.

Another Act

I don’t think it’s accident that the first time we see him have a real heart-to-heart with someone is when he’s attempting to do it for the sake of someone else.  Even if it is in a clumsy manner that ends up annoying Shinsou, it’s the intent I’m interested in here.

We almost never see Monoma receive or accept praise or reassurance, he’s always the one giving it.  He always makes it a point to put himself in the position where he’s being the emotionally strong one. 

He got over class 1-A securing their victory exceptionally fast, ready to put on a strong face for Tokage and the rest of his class.

The few times we do see him genuinely depressed, he’s distancing himself from others.  

He’s afraid of holding others back not just as a hero, but emotionally as well.  His instinct to be emotionally strong for the people he cares about stems not just from his strong empathy and caring nature nature itself, but also from his pride, insecurities and conscious decision to do everything he can do.

This is why he’s too prideful to seek or accept real emotional help & ends up venting his emotions in unhealthy & destructive ways.

His many depictions as an actor of sorts was intentional.  He juggles many acts, he puts on an act of emotional strength for his classmates, and he puts on an act of cruelty to get by as a hero.  To antagonize people in an attempt to throw them off their game.  Sometimes... oftentimes even, he misapplies these charades & gets carried away.  Oftentimes he fails entirely, he’s trying to do some hella complex things for a kid.

Finally, His Pride

Let’s not kid ourselves here, the dude has a major superiority/inferiority complex.  He fails to see how needlessly cruel he’s being when saying class-A asked to be attacked by villains etc.

I’m willing to bet he’ll be in a phase denial for a while now that Class-B and Class-A have gotten more openly friendly in recent chapters.  But because he cares so much about his classmates he’ll likely eventually come around to adjusting to a new frenemy relationship with 1-A... with much difficulty when we take his pride, insecurities & self-righteous envy into account.

He’ll probably end up being Tsundere about everything to protect his ego and so Horikoshi can keep using him for comedic relief lol.  Even if he does realize a lot of what he’s done was f*ked up, he’s too brash of a prankster to ever go fully soft on them either.

TL;DR... Monoma is a piece of mf work.  Not surprising really.

Hello, could you help me typing my friend? I don't know if she's an INFP or INFJ. First of all, she's really really smart. But she's very modest about it, and always says "I'm not, but thank you". She tends to be very reserved with her outbursts just because she doesn't want to bother anyone; she prefers to listen others stories. And she really cares. She's very kind and funny, althought she can look very cold and aloof at first glare. She looks estructured and likes to think over doing. (1/2)

She also loves philosophy, science, cosmology, astronomy, and psychology. The bad thing about her is that she tends to be very paranoic, she overthinks and overanalyzes everything, and this causes her insomnia. She is always very worried about what's going to happen, althought she neglects it. When something important happens, she's like “what is the real motive of this?” “Why did this happen?” She’s also reaaaally good learning new languages. She also tends to be very clumsy. (2/3)

She can be very logical and rational too; she loves theories and conspirations, and she can deal very easy with abstract things. She is better with theory than practice. On the other side, she also can be very “soft” and a daydreamer but in a more "realistic" way. Maybe this is important: she always thinks about what others are going to think when she takes a decision. Smart: not an MBTI thing

Modest/self-effacing: most common in IxFJs, pretty uncommon in TJs, and if it’s specifically about smarts then I would guess feelers over thinkers since thinkers do prefer to be thought of as smart.

Reserved and prefers to listen to others, thinks rather than does: IxFJ does sound likely.

Liking these topics: could be anything.

Paranoid/overanalysis/insomnia: overanalysis would be in line with weak tertiary Ti; paranoia could be more of an enneagram thing (6) it could be weak inferior Ne, or it could just be anxiety.

Worrying about what’s going to happen but neglects it: not sure what this means.

Looking into the real motive or why things happen: probably more Ni, waiting for more Ni evidence to say for sure but leaning that way.

Good at languages: not an MBTI thing.

Clumsy: usually not a high Se thing but otherwise could be anything.

Logical/rational but loves conspiracies: contradiction in terms in that conspiracies are usually inherently a bad application of logic and are irrational, but liking conspiracies is somewhat more INFJ than ISFJ (either would have the same access to logic with tert Ti since I’ve already decided IxFJ makes the most sense

Prefers theory: fits with dom Ni

A day dreamer but more realistic: needs more information to be useful - I would appreciate that because this could be a point back in favor of ISFJ; more detail on both this and an expansion with examples on what you mean by preferring theory would also be really helpful, since there are things that could tip it that way still with all the other information.

Considers what others would think whenever making a decision: with all else that has been said, I’m very confident about IxFJ.

So: probably an INFJ, but depending on further information and some clarifications, ISFJ is less likely but technically possible. If you were considering INFP because you thought you saw Ne, this would be a good time to elaborate; if it was because of high intuition signs it would be helpful to know what those were to be able to confirm.

Arryl! Aaaa they grow up so fast. 🥹

& Tetra’s characterization! Voice & body language! That’s especially perfect! The way she shifts from gruffness to affection, barely a few panels in & there’s a very clear picture for a multifaceted character. She’s the same BAMF we remember yet she’s grown so much! 🥰

The way even her internal recognition for the Master Sword is just “Link’s Fuckass sword” is so funny & does a lot to establish Tetra’s dialect even admist plot progression! I could almost hear the gruff woman voice say “fuckass sword” 😂 Also says a bit about the WW post-apocalyptic setting. It’s not the Master Sword, it’s the sword that was used once & was never supposed to show up again! 👀

& then her FACE as she’s like, Link, walk with me! 🤣🤣🤣 She’s grown so much since the events of Wind Waker & having a very appropriate reaction to the sword Link left at the bottom of the whole-ass ocean casually showing up again on somebody else’s person. 🤭

She’s immediately like damn what alternate universe (Phantom Hourglass reference) did you get sucked into THIS time huh? 😂😂

Then! Lineback flirting with grandma! I can totally see that! 😂☠️🫣🤣

Last but CERTAINLY not least! Those fake names! Loft’s first name to come to mind being Groose 💀 & Wolf’s being Rusl. 🥹 & then there’s Slate, who straight up ignores Wake/HeroOfWind 😂

Slate’s not used to anyone thinking twice about his name anyways, & his strategy’s probably better tbh esp on short notice. 😆

Wild & Legend being foils to one another in some of the most obscure & neat ways possible, part 1/??

So basically, I hc that Wild’s is like, super weary of enclosed spaces in-general, whereas Legend is the complete opposite.

Most of the BOTW tactics learned early in the game require a lot of space to work with.

Rolling a boulder town the hill, backing up or climbing things to shot some arrows, generally approaching from the high ground to take advantage of bullet time, even for flurry rushes Wild needs space to do side-hops & backflips.

In ALTTP, on the other hand, the majority of your fights are fought in enclosed spaces. The first move you learn, the spin-attack, forces you very early on to not only be very economical with your movements, but to track the movements of multiple opponents at once.

FR wide-open spaces in ALTTP are anxiety inducing b/c an arrow can fly in at you from seemingly nowhere (literally off-screen).

Legend's usually the one getting ambushed in open spaces, whereas in enclosed spaces he's generally able to see everything he's dealing with. He thrives in that environment b/c he's mastered the dance necessary for ALTTP's version of the spin-attack. It's the last thing his uncle taught him, after all, & fr I don't think it's possible to beat the game without it as far as I can tell.

& so the tldr:

Outside in the middle of nowhere with no map:

Wild: 😀

Inside a dark dank cave or tomb or some sh't:

New chapter’s got more fuel for my ‘Wild is a cuddler but is awful at asking for it’ agenda! 🤭

See, aside from Wild giving a scant few of playful pats on the shoulder—or Twi’s face at one point—(usually either right after petting Wolfie, or not long after their hug in the Dawn arc)… it always seems to be Twilight to initiate contact.

This time is no exception.

Lookat that body language! Wild’s stiff & reserved at first, to the point that Twilight needs to reach out pretty far to put a hand on his shoulder.

Then Wild lights up & escalates it to full-on horseplay. Twilight even needs to push him away to get him back on track.

This isn’t the first time by far either (hence why Twilight knew his contact would be welcome in the first place).

They’re dorks & they’re brothers your honor. 😂 Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Frfr I fecking love EOW Zelda so much, y’all have no idea. She may look like a normal lil princess on the surface but she’s definitely just as if not more crazy than BOTW/TOTK Link & I’m not kidding. She’s a girl who gets zoomies. Nobody blinks when she swims in the well or climbs onto the rooftops (both are possible, even easy before the Tri-rod!). Her family calls her “spirited,” when being polite. She’s about as good at climbing & swimming as she is at running (without magic item assistance!). Her rock climbing speed is particularly insane, faster than BOTW, even before you figure out spamming B makes her climb faster! She’s short & may not always be able to reach the trees without a trampoline… once she’s up there though she’s better at clamoring among the trees than the actual Hero Of Wilds. She’s scurrying along like a lil monkey. She sees a place she wants to go, she figures out how to get there by sheer spite & insanity. She’s definitely got tree or rose-bush branches sticking out of her hair more often than not at like all times through her whole life. Truly no wonder why the other leaders haven’t met her yet, fam was definitely hoping she’d grow out of her feral zoomies stage of girlhood but welp that’s clearly never going to happen… they all still love her though. She’s a what if botw Zelda actually had the chance to happily bloom with a loving, even if mildly exasperated-at-times family. She isn’t forced to “grow up,” & it’s in-fact her free spirit that saves Hyrule. I have many feelings, EOW Zelda’s freaking amazing.

Yoooooo I love everything about this update so much! It all flows so perfectly together! 🤩

Mini rightfully being a menace is a treat. 🤭

& The entire composition for Sky’s “two can play that game” panel is *chefs kiss. The way the feathers on his head are being highlighted? Brilliant! Balances the composition while thematically reinforcing how Mini is challenging Sky to his own game!

Yet while I emphasize with Mini here, Sky’s to-the-point & understandable question: “Why can a child do that?” Is SO well represented! The way Mini’s looking pointedly at the rupees & celebrates with a video-gamy looking symbol over his head… he looks so happy & unfazed! & THAT’S what disturbs Sky the most in this moment!

Meanwhile even Ravio & Twilight’s shenanigans thematically add to what’s going on. Ravio freaking out & screaming over a lil spider while Mini kills a monster? The dissonance!

Then towards the end, Twilight, a kind & gentle soul, saves the spider rather than killing it. IDK where I’m going with that point really, but it’s just the perfect balance of lightening the mood with something funny while still feeling thematically appropriate. 💞

I'm really proud of this update but PLEASE don't look too closely at which hands the boys are holding their swords I made a mistake sketching and had to flip a bunch of panels and I didn't think to check that part until it was too late aaAAAAAA-- Mini is left handed.

There’s an actual legit reason Legend might’ve legitimately thought Four is a grown-ass man & it’s because of these fellas!

The Dawrven Swordsmiths from ALTTP….

They’re shorter than Link on his first quest! 🤣The thought that Four might be a child simply due to his height must have never even crossed Lege’s mind! Cuz he literally grew up sharing a neighborhood with these tiny fellas! 🤭

So like, inagine Legend approaching Four, all bashful like, “um, how old are you?”

& Four’s like

Legend: … “Honestly I was thinking you were like, in your thirties?”

One thing I find super funny about LU nicknames is like, yeah, Wind & Time know their hero titles. Wild does too even though we have yet to get confirmation that he’s mentioned it in the comic (Wild’s green tunic is literally dubbed Tunic Of The Wild in-game BOTW)… & Sky must know his hero title as well given he’s been referred to as Sky within the comic already… Legend though?

Not only am I not sure anyone’s ever told Legend his actual hero title (outside the manga iirc), but like, at least half of the other Links have been referred to as the “Hero Of Legend” at some point within their respective games? 🤣🤭

I know for a fact Wild gets referred to as the “Hero Of Legend” by the first lady he sees in Kakariko Village, but then his predecessor is also referred to as such. So like, it’s just so non-specific it becomes about as useless for identification purposes as the name Link itself once you got more than one of em in the same room! 👀

Rulie’s in a similar boat but idk I just think it’s particularly funny to imagine the Vet being like “Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down,” or “Who tf” at his own hero title (& maybe Rulie’s sweat-dropping in the background). 😂

The plot bunnies be hopping

Y’know how Link’s uncle is brought back to life at the end of alttp—but doesn’t seem to be living with Legend in Linked Universe? 🤔

What if Legend’s refusal to carry on the family’s knighthood as the sole surviving heir of his generation is part of why he’s grown distant from his uncle? I’m not saying his uncle had to have tried to force it or been an outright asshole about it—but maybe there’s some sort of tension, guilt or some other sort of melancholy there.

Y’know something else conveniently similar that’s been living in my head rent-free since I first played botw? That one memory where we learn literally the only detail about Wild’s family we ever learn in-game: His father was a knight of the Royal Guard. Also of/c that Link followed in his footsteps. But like—the whole theme of that memory was, “but what if…”

Specifically, here’s Zelda’s dialogue in the memory:

Your path seems to mirror your father's. You've dedicated yourself to becoming a knight, as well. Your commitment to the training necessary to fulfill your goal is really quite admirable… I see now why you would be the chosen one…

What if... one day... You realized that you just weren't meant to be a fighter. Yet the only thing people ever said... was that you were born into a family of the royal guard, and so no matter what you thought, you had to become a knight. If that was the only thing that you were ever told... I wonder, then... would you have chosen a different path?

We don’t see any response from Link of/c, but… the implications, from the mere fact that he remembers this specific conversation at all—especially in the context of LU, where Wild has already admitted he has a hard time believing the prim & proper soldier in his memories was even ever him.

Which is not even to mention anything else on whether he’d choose to be a knight if given the choice now. We know Wild carries around Roam’s diary, so he’s almost certainly read Zelda’s as well & would therefore know that even the him from before wasn’t doing too hot under all the pressure…

So like, hoo boy, Wild would get it. Legend may or may not initially expect it, but I think Wild would 100% back up Legend’s choice to stay out of knighthood... after a bit more development of his own that seems to be incoming of course. 👀

Hell, Legend might even step in on Wild’s behalf first if things happen to escalate—which would be neat. A lot of things would be neat between these two tbh (Y’all know me I’m obsessed with them. 🤣)

They’re the only two Links with a father mentioned or even implied in-game, (well, them & Twilight perhaps, but that’s off-topic) & both of them got complicated & juicy relationships with their inherited knighthood. 👀 There’s convenient parallels & I just think they’re neat. 🤭

Sharing again cuz I just wanna reemphasize how much I love the character choreography here!

Like, first of all, the sheer audacity, the first image of the Sailor alone is so memeable. Imagine waking up to a PUNCH in the face & you look down to see some kid(TM) in an oversized shirt glaring their angy daggers at ya.

Then the Sailor is SO sassy the whole way through, she grabs Shepard’s arm from way up picking at his teeth to freak out over the Triforce, Shepard’s like ??? &… the kiddo, keeps holding on to his arm as he stands up. 😂

Then she acrobatically swings around to perch on his arm? Which, wow? She’s so extra. Her lil pose when she reveals her Triforce is adorable, & the way she commands the wind to casually show off as she introduces herself… meanwhile Wtf is she talking about when you read it from Shepard’s perspective. 🤣

Sailor is SUCH a kid(TM) but I like how there’s also hints of the time travel shenanigan experience she’s indeed already had so far. She’s fully aware of the possibility that she could come across a Link who doesn’t know what the Triforce means or that they’re a hero yet. I like that lil detail. There’s a method to her madness.

Like I don’t think finding a pre-adventure Link ever actually happened in Hyrule Warriors but to realize that’s a possibility shows she’s a smart kid & takes her self-proclaimed role as the commander’s confidant adorably seriously in the way kids do, & as kids do she immediately jumps from that to trying to recruit Shepard. 😂

Legend & Fi Are Best Friends Y’all

One of my favorite HCs/Plot-bunnies is Legend even has heard the Master Sword’s voice before, during his first adventure as a kid. Grew real attached & even had full conversations with her…

… but as he grew older he began to assume it was all his imagination.

Nobody in his era knew the sword was supposed to even have a voice, the knowledge had been lost to time. Even if he pieces together the fate of his predecessor based on the state he found the blade in—He’d have had no proof that the pungent air of melancholy & mourning surrounding the blade was literal…

… Until he meets the Chain.

He doesn’t even make a big deal about it—It’s all very subtle. Soft adoring gazes & a few particularly telling blink-&-you-miss-it details.

Young Legend may or may not have ever even told anyone, (specially not Zelda, he didn’t want her to think he was a kid!) but he might’ve felt expected to grow up fast & caught on to that talking to inanimate objects is very childlike. I get the feeling he would’ve kept it to himself for the most part.

It’d be pretty easy to pass-off even. It’d barely even need to be a secret. Guys using personable feminine pronouns for boats, planes, cars, even, yes, swords has been very much a thing through history. Any slip-ups on the Vet’s part would simply be interpreted in this manner, he could even keep outright talking to her once in a while…

… but there’s still a difference between a grown man personifying one of his prized tools & a child bonding with an imaginary friend. It just wouldn’t be the same.
