Before we started the next Lifestyle module we were given homework for the reading week. We had to research 2 brands that we found inspirational - from the past or present. For my first choice I chose Laura Ashley. I found her quite interesting as Laura Ashley started out producing homeware in the 1950’s but then branched out into clothing and fashion into the 1960’s. She was originally from Wales and set up the business with her husband.

The company built up a following and in the early 1980’s her dresses were made more popular by Lady Diana wearing one. Guardian (2018).

The brand was identified as being British and good quality with a romantic and elegant and floral design. It used natural fabrics such as linen and crisp cotton and had a British countryside feel to it. The logo for Laura Ashley had a simple spray of flowers on it - suggesting the romantic nature of the product. It was affordable but at the high end of the retail market. Ebay (2023). Laura Ashley began its decline in the 1990’s due to fashions changing in clothing and homeware. It went into receivership in 2020. It can now be bought through Next and John Lewis. The iconic design of Laura Ashley seems to endure and her vintage dresses are sold online and very popular again.

I bought a shirt or two from women’s fashions but it was a bit more expensive than I usually paid for my clothes. I liked the homeware and bought table mats and coasters years ago. I liked the colours and the floral patterns used.
