not like i will ever update but the sequel (next chapter?) to Killing Time Until the End of the World

Hal wakes up and the bed is empty. Just him, a silk lined duvet, and too many pillows to be practical.

He has a short moment of panic as he forgets where he is. All he knows is this isn’t his room and there is this overwhelming sense of dread that everything in his life has gone wrong wrong wrong because he’s a screw up screw up screw up. There’s a weight in his chest he doesn’t understand and his heart starts thudding harder than he can comprehend.

A heart attack, he thinks. At 17 though? That really would be his luck.

He doesn’t know how much time passes as he sits upright in bed, trying to catch his breath. It might be thirty seconds or an hour. But eventually a door opens and Hiram comes in.

Hiram’s room. Of course. 

He’s dressed in his workout clothes and has a Talkman clipped to his waist but he lets it fall to the carpet as he sees Hal. 

Hiram’s arms are around him in an instant and everything floods back to him. Alice leaving and hating him and his parents hating him and spilling his guts to Hiram and “Are you sure it’s even your kid, Hal?” and the kiss and following Hiram back here and deciding to never go home again and waking up alone and Hiram gone and -

“I just went for a run,” Hiram says softly. “I’m sorry. I didn’t think you’d wake up this early.”
