Shopping with Eddie is like pulling teeth. First, you have to convince him to actually come to the mall with you. Then you have to continually bribe with treats from the food court just to keep him from driving off without you. Today, he’s snacking on a giant cinnamon pretzel from Auntie Anne’s and slurping on a root beer.
“Remind me why I need to be here again?” he whines as you compare two denim miniskirts that look identical to him, but apparently, you can spot a difference. He takes another bite of pretzel and sighs indignantly.
“Because,” you explain, exasperation evident in your tone, “I need a man’s opinion on what to wear for my date tonight, and you’re the closest thing I have.” You laugh as he playfully shoves you. “And I needed a ride, so…”
“So, basically, you’re just using me for my male gaze and my car, huh?” he asks, running a hand over a neatly folded pile of shirts on display.
“Pretty much.” you chirp, putting both skirts back on the rack. “Ugh, this is hopeless! I’m never gonna find something.” You blow out a big breath, puffing your cheeks. “One more store and then we can go home, I promise.”
Eddie rolls his eyes but dutifully follows behind you, taking the opportunity to check out the way your shorts perfectly hug your ass. He feels a twitch in his pants as your hips sway back and forth, and he wills himself to look away.
Unfortunately, in his pursuit to keep himself from popping a boner in the middle of the Starcourt Mall, his gaze lands on the entrance to a lingerie boutique. The mannequin out in front is adorned with a red lace teddy that leaves nothing to the imagination. His eyes dart back to you, and all he can think about is you wearing it. But not for your date with whatever schmuck you’re going out with tonight; no, Eddie wants you to wear it for him. In his bed, straddling his waist, grinding on his–
“Shit,” he mutters. He thinks his voice is low enough to keep you from hearing, but he cringes as you swivel around to see what the problem is, catching him trying to discreetly adjust himself over his jeans.
“You okay–oh,” you giggle, taking notice of his predicament. “Careful, Casanova; y’might wanna pick your jaw off the floor.” You put your forearm on his shoulder and rest your chin on top of it, making him tense up even more. “Who are you picturing in that? Chrissy Cunningham? Tammy Thompson?” Before he can answer, you press on. “Ooh, or maybe a supermodel, like Cindy Crawford or Iman? C’mon, who is it?”
“What if I was picturing you?” Eddie tries to play off his words teasingly, but the raw lust blowing out his pupils gives him away.
Biting your lower lip, you can taste the gloss you’d applied earlier. Every time Eddie jokes with you like this, pretending he wants you, it kills you inside. “Do you think I should try it on?” You look at him innocently, batting your eyelashes as you call his bluff. “Y’know, for Kyle tonight?”
At the mention of your date’s name, Eddie shrugs your arm off of him. “No,” he growls, hooking a ringed finger through your belt loop, “want you to try it on for me.” There’s no hiding his hardness now, and you can feel his heart beating faster as he draws closer to you. He swallows thickly, waiting for your response.
You’re too stunned to speak. Eddie has always been a flirt, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t have a crush on him, but he’s your best friend. There’s no way he seriously wants to see you in lingerie, right?
“O-Okay,” you manage, turning towards the store. Eddie intertwines his pinky with yours as though ensuring he won’t lose sight of you. You find the teddy in your size and bring it into the dressing room. To Eddie’s dismay, you yank the velvet curtain closed. He tilts his head slightly, trying to find a gap wide enough to get a glimpse of you changing. He can just imagine you shimmying out of your clothes and into the sheer lingerie.
Fuck it.
Careful not to expose you to a customer passing by, Eddie slips into the room, resting his hands on your waist as you examine yourself in the mirror. The lace clings to your body, hugging your curves in all the right ways. You can feel his hard length pressed up against the back of your naked thigh.
“Eddie,” you breathe out, trying to ignore the fluttering below your belly, “what are you doing?”
“Tell me something, princess,” he says, purposefully ignoring your question, “I pictured you putting this on, but who did you picture taking it off?” He waits for what seems like an eternity, silently praying that Kyle’s name doesn’t pass through your lips.
You turn to face him, letting his strong hands fall below the curve of your ass. “You, Eddie. Always you.” As soon as you give your answer, Eddie’s mouth crashes onto yours. He brings one palm to cup your cheek while he kisses you hungrily, moaning lightly with each flicker of his tongue against yours. He guides you to the wall, palming your breasts through the minimal covering.
Eddie nudges his knee between your thighs, brushing against your sensitive sex, and you moan involuntarily. “Oh, baby,” he coos, chuckling at your reaction to his touch, “so needy, aren’t we? I bet you’re already soaking wet. Almost pathetic how desperate you are f’me, huh?” You want to fire back with a witty retort about how he was the one who wanted you in lingerie; he barged into the dressing room while you were changing, but you can’t string words together to form a sentence. Instead, you nod dumbly, making him laugh again. “Don’t worry; I’ll tell you a little secret.” He nibbles at your earlobe before whispering, “This isn’t the first time I’ve thought about your sexy little body in one of these. Not even the first time today, actually.”
With that, your fingers fly to his belt, unbuckling it as deftly as you can, and tug his pants and boxers down his thighs. His throbbing cock thwacks against his torso, leaving a pre-cum stain on his shirt. He hisses at the sudden relief, using his own fluids as lube to pump himself. You start to get onto your knees, but he stops you.
“If you put your mouth on me, ‘m never gonna last,” he warns with a smirk. “That’ll be for next time, yeah?” The promise of a next time excites you even more, and you allow him to hoist you up against the wall, pushing aside the lace as he runs his cock along your slick folds. “Y’ready?” His eyes are wide; though he wants nothing more than to be inside you, but only if you want to. When you nod, his smile exposes his soft dimples. “Thas’ my girl.”
My girl my girl my girl. The words swirl through your brain as Eddie pushes his mushroom tip into you. The stretch is a mixture of pleasure and pain, melting into only the former as he slowly ruts up into you, allowing you to take a bit more of him each time.
Eddie’s never had sex this good before. You dig your fingernails into his back as your pussy clenches around him; he feels himself growing even harder inside you. He grabs the plush of your ass as he quickens his pace, hitting your sweet spot with each thrust.
“Goddamn,” he groans, nearly whimpering as you tug on his hair. “Your body was meant for me, baby. Takin’ me so well, like you were made for my cock.”
“I was m-made for you,” you echo, feeling your body tremble with delight. “Eddie, Eddie, oh, fuck, Eddie!” You lean your head back, exposing your throat and giving him the perfect angle to suck a bruise just above your collarbone.
Eddie chants your name, burying his head into the crook of your neck as he leaves more hickeys. “Can’t hold back much longer,” he confesses, trailing his tongue over the fresh set of love bites, but he keeps the same rhythm that’s driving you wild. “Wanna get my princess off before I do, though.”
“K-Keep going until you c-cum, please,” you beg him, “just like that.” You bring your middle finger down to your clit, rubbing deliberate circles until you feel your orgasm wash over you. “Yes, Eddie. I’m cumming, cumming for you…feel s’good.”
Bucking his hips harder and chasing his release, Eddie is a panting mess. “Shit–gonna cum, gonna cum in-inside you, fuck.” His hot seed coats your walls as he cries out your name one last time. He gently pulls out of you, leaving cum dripping down your leg while you struggle to regain your balance.
“Looks like we ruined it,” he offers, motioning to the lingerie. There’s tears along the crotch where he roughly moved the fabric, and the mixture of your releases is starting to leave a stain. He tears off the price tag and crumples it, tossing it to the floor. “Put your clothes on over it, hmm? It’ll be our little secret.” He pauses, giving you a mischievous smirk. “Unless you wanna tell Kyle tonight?”
You shake your head. “No. No Kyle. Only you.” Honestly, you’d forgotten all about your date until Eddie just reminded you. “Gonna cancel so we can do…that again.” And hopefully again and again and again.
Eddie throws his arm around you. “Oh, sweetheart,” he laughs, “now that I’ve got you, we’re not stopping until that little number is completely destroyed.”

When: Sunday, June 23rd, 2024
Who: Sterling Levin featuring a random npc named tammy lol
Where: Sterling’s home while Sunny is with Noelle
Notes: Sterling hasn’t been feeling well lately but chalked it up to being nothing and has continued working on preparing for the event. She notices, however, that her waistline is a bit tighter and she realizes she’s missed her period, resulting in a very panicked trip to a drugstore for a pregnancy test.
Trigger warnings: pregnancy, fears of abandonment, and mentions her and Liza’s car accident a few weeks prior to this.
Sterling was the kind of person who knew no limits. She took on so many hobbies as a kid and it was encouraged by her father because he believed it helped her with the grief of losing her mother so young. But one of the things Sterling took on as a hobby that she absolutely loved was making jewelry with clay. She had always been into art, making little sculptures, doing beautiful paintings, and anything that could be a creative outlet for her. But making jewelry was her favorite, and last year she would even sell her items in the Sea Glass boutique, but with her life getting busier, she’d stopped for a while. With the new event coming to Aurora Bay, Sterling decided it would be a great time to get back into it. She’d spent the last few weeks making sure she had enough items, cute little baggies to put them in, and all the financial things about it sorted. And, of course, she had to dress up for it!
It was as Sterling was trying on her new dress that she’d noticed the waist was a bit tighter than usual for the size she’d bought. She didn’t think much of it, in fact, she immediately assumed she was just bloated. It was nearing the time of her period. However, Sterling recalled the way she’d been feeling sick the past few days, and even bad enough she threw up the other day. And that was when she realized she hadn’t checked her calendar for her period yet. After Sunny was a complete surprise baby, Sterling made sure to meticulously track her period, and any time it was barely off, she would either panic or just go out and get a pregnancy test.
Sterling had been busy, though, so it honestly hadn’t crossed her mind. It really hadn’t for a while. The youngest Levin got a little nervous but tried to remain calm. She and Arkin had been sleeping together for a few months now, but they were being safe, which is what she kept telling herself at that moment as she checked her phone calendar. Sure enough, though, she was late. Late late. Sterling’s stomach dropped and she almost immediately called Liza only to realize Liza had dealt with enough Sterling drama to last her a lifetime, considering it was Sterling’s fault they’d gotten into a car accident and Liza got hurt. Sterling decided to do this alone.
She threw on a t-shirt and shorts and slid her feet into comfortable shoes before grabbing her purse and keys and heading out the door. She prayed that this time was like any other time where her period was late, where she'd panic a little, but it would turn out to be nothing. As Sterling got into her car, she started mumbling to herself about how periods could be late for a number of reasons or that maybe her waist line being a little tighter than usual was simply because she’d gained a little weight because weight fluctuates. These were all things she was telling herself to keep herself calm, but it was so difficult.
Sterling needed to know, but after all the rumors that spread about her in Aurora Bay when she got pregnant with Sunny, she decided she would go to a pharmacy outside of Aurora Bay to purchase a pregnancy test. That way it’d be less likely for her to run into someone she knows. It’s what she and Liza did when Liza got her pregnancy test last year when she found out she was pregnant with Elise. Sterling really wished her sister was there with her now.
About half an hour later, Sterling arrived at the drugstore outside of Aurora Bay and made her way inside, beelining for the pregnancy tests. She hated buying tests because she felt like people always judged her, although she supposed she finally was getting to an age where it was more of something people congratulated rather than judged, right? Despite Sterling telling herself this to comfort herself, she immediately thought about people judging her as a single mom. She really, really liked Arkin, but what if he left her the same way Sunny’s father had? The thought alone made her want to throw up.
Sterling grabbed several different brands of tests and made her way to the counter. She tried making small talk with the cashier, hoping she could somehow distract the older woman from the fact that she was ringing up three pregnancy tests as she spoke.
“Good luck.” The woman- her name tag read Tammy- as she handed Sterling the bag. “Thanks. Y- I’m so sorry if this is weird, but do you have a restroom?” Sterling nearly whispered as she asked and Tammy gave her a sympathetic look and handed her the key to the bathroom.
“You’re a lifesaver, Tam.” Sterling then pulled a fifty dollar bill out of her purse and handed it to the woman as a tip. Maybe it was excessive for the woman showing her kindness, but Sterling really appreciated the small kindness she was given in those few moments in the store.
Sterling sped walked to the one person bathroom and struggled to unlock the door because her hands were shaking so badly, but once she was inside, she locked the door and went straight to the sink where she pulled everything out of her plastic bag. She peed on the sticks and then waited several excruciating minutes for the results. A million things were running through her mind then. Sterling already knew she’d keep the baby. She’d wanted another child for a while now, but she feared what people would think about it. Because in Sterling's mind, the next time she would have a baby, she'd be married or at least engaged, but life never worked out the way Sterling thought it would and she feared a lot of things, actually. Would Liza call her crazy for having another baby right now? Would Arkin leave and the baby never know its father, just like Sunny? Would Sunny be mad at her that she was no longer going to be an only child? Would Sterling’s father be angry with her? These were all things running through her mind, but the timer on her phone going off snapped her out of her thoughts, causing her to jump by the sudden noise.
With her heart racing, Sterling inched towards the sink where the pregnancy tests were lined up and she picked them up one by one. Two pink lines, pregnant, and two pink lines, read each of them. Pregnant. Sterling was pregnant. Again. The blonde stared at the tests, her lips parted and she felt like she couldn’t breathe, and once again a loud noise snapped her out of her daze. It wasn’t her phone alarm this time, it was Tammy. “You alright in there?” The woman called, and Sterling moved to the door and nearly yanked it open, tears in her eyes as she held up the three tests. “They’re positive.” Sterling nearly choked and the tears started coming down her face, and the sweet older woman named Tammy- a stranger- hugged Sterling and tried to console her.

New York - May 2024
Just back from action-packed Frieze art week festivities in the Big Apple which featured stops at Future Fair, Nada New York and Frieze New York. The art fair spree dovetailed nicely with the launch of the major post-war, contemporary, and modern auction previews scheduled for later this month at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips. The fairs and auction previews together served up fantastic art viewing opportunities for art fans and aficionados alike. And, as if that wasn’t enough given the mere 24 hours of viewing time on hand, serendipity delivered the icing on the cake with the timely opening of Tammi Campbell’s marvelous gallery exhibit of recent paintings and sculptures.
The Fairs
Frieze New York was the marquee fair, and it celebrated its 12th year as part of the cultural landscape in the city and its fourth outing at The Shed since relocating from Randall Island. The evolution of the fair since then has been considerable. From a corporate perspective, it is now part of famed Ari Emanuel’s sports and entertainment conglomerate, and, on the art front, the offering got slicker and more rarefied, featuring top-tier highly curated contemporary galleries and works. This year’s boutique-sized edition of 65 or so exhibitors included global mega galleries and international and local blue chippers. Standout works included: Nate Lowman’s “Golf Course Marilyn”, 2024, oil and alkyd on linen (50 x 30 in.); Uri Aran’s “Everything (Timeline)”, 2023, gesso, acrylic, oil, oil pastel, graphite, wood stain, clear polyurethane, charcoal, color pencil, china marker, and mixed media on canvas (87.25 x 42 x 1.5 in.); and, Richard Aldrich’s “Untitled”, 2022, oil and wax on panel (20.5 x 13.13 in.).
NADA New York has long been synonymous with contemporary and emerging art, and the fair continued to build on its reputation as being the go-to event for up-and-coming galleries. For this year’s edition, over 92 galleries, art spaces and non-profit organizations convened in the heart of Chelsea to showcase their stars, including, remarkably, 34 first time presenters. The show highlights included: a pair of works by Shaan Syed “Gorilla, Geurilla” and “To, Too, Two”, 2023, oil and paper collage on linen (35.3 x 31.5 in., each); Emma Schwartz’s “Thought You Should Know (again)”, 2024, oil, charcoal and chalk pastel on canvas (68 x 48 in.); and, Jule Korneffel’s “Alex’s Garden”, 2023, acrylic on canvas (82 x 80 in.).
Future Fair, on a relative basis, was the newest kid on the block, yet the four-year old upstart exuded a palpable vibe and excitement. With a focus on emerging galleries, the contemporary art fair featured over 100 artists from 26 countries, collaborating with over 60 local and international art dealers. Collectively creating a very accessible environment, the artists, works, and gallerists fostered a strong sense of engagement with fairgoers. Highlights included: Gwen Hardie’s assembled triptych “05.29.23”, pure venetian red and naples yellow on indian red, “09.15.23”, darkest cadmium red on indian red and “06.19.23”, lavender on warm umber (24 x 24 in., each); Beck Lowry’s “Red Threat (after Aseem)”, 2023, painted weaving on handmade wooden armature (plywood, crochet thread, oil paint) (12.5 x .75 x 1 in.); and Carolyn Case’s “Night Kitchen”, 2024, chalk pastel on pastel card with artist frame, ceramic porcelain and glaze (17 x 20 in.).
The Auction Previews
The previews for the prominent spring edition of the post-war, contemporary, and modern art auctions at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips opened to the public and welcomed everyone from the most serious global big hitters gearing up to shell out whatever it takes to walk home with a masterwork to casual and ardent fans savoring the opportunity to look at phenomenal works before they again disappear into private collections. As always, the previews were masterfully staged in wonderful spaces. Supersized showstoppers included: Andy Warhol’s “Flowers”, 1964, acrylic, fluorescent paint and silkscreen ink on linen (82 x 82 in.); Frank Stella’s “Lettre sur les sourds et muets II”, 1974, synthetic polymer paint on canvas (140.88 x 140.88 in.); Felix Gonzalez-Torres’ “(Untitled) America #3”, 1992, 42 light bulbs, porcelain light sockets and electrical cord (length 504 in.); and, Rashid Johnson’s “Anxious Red Painting September 24th”, 2020, oil on linen (72.25 x 96.25 in.). Beyond the headliners, marvelous less conspicuous works were sprinkled throughout. Memorable ones included: Brice Marden’s “Small Parchment Study #1”, 1999, oil on natural vellum stretched over plywood; Henry Taylor’s “Cruel Kids”, 2005, acrylic on canvas (28.5 x 28 in.); and Agnes Martin’s “Earth II”, 1959, oil on canvas (71.33 x 48 in.).
Tammi Campbell Exhibit
In between fairs and auction previews, Tammi Campbell’s As Long As It Lasts exhibit kicked off and featured a walk through with the artist who provided fascinating insights into her practice and the specifics about works on view. With the continuous evolution of her creative re-engineering processes and next gen wrappings, Campbell continued to push appropriation to new heights, all while making the work uniquely her own. Highlights included: the Cy Twombly inspired “Untitled (1970)”, 2024, chalk on blackboard with walnut frame (48.75 x 59.25 x 1.4 in.); and a replica of a famous Andy Warhol work with a twist “Double Elvis (Ferus Type) with Bubble Wrap and Packing Tape”, 2024, acrylic on canvas (81.25 x 58.25 x 1.25 in.).
As spirited art week festivities unfolded across the city, local sportsfans were also whipped up into a frenzy as both their hometown Rangers and Knicks advanced to the second round of their respective playoff series. On the hoops front, with the Knicks now set to tip off against the Pacers, Dino fans can also partake in some playoff excitement (by extension) as former Raptor stars Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby, sporting Pacers and Knicks uniforms, respectively, are pitted against each other. The exuberance of “Crazy Eyes” versus the zen of “OG-Won Kenobe” - one of the two will get to the conference finals which should provide some solace and maybe even bring a smile to Dino nation.
For more information on any of the artists or works mentioned, the upcoming auctions, and the fate of former Dino stars, “Just Google It”.

The mini stock cars of Radio Control Racers Edmonton are swerving down the track at their new storefront in the Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre.
The club is one of the unconventional tenants setting up shop in the shopping center, which alternative mall foot traffic numbers Control Edmonton took over a storefront in the building last month. President Randy Van said the first few weeks have been a massive success for both club and the mall.
"It's been great for the community," he said. "Everybody that lives close to the mall is coming just to watch races the Edmonton Train Collectors Association, a model train club, Africart, a locally-owned African clothing and art store, and Priya Fashions, a clothing store specializing in Indian and Islamic bridal fashion.
The shopping center's general manager Tammy Abbott said the pandemic forced the mall, which opened in 1968, to change the business.
"We've had to look out of the box and bring new concepts to the plate," she said. "Consumer patterns have changed, so we have to change."
According to Statistics Canada, the number of Canadians shopping online rose from 73% in 2018 to 82% in 2020 e-commerce than in-person sales, according to the most recent data.
Changing spending patterns are causing flagship stores to fail at malls across Edmonton Co-op grocery store in the Mill Woods Town Centre closed this January. In the same month, The Toys "R" Us store in the West Edmonton Mall announced it would close, as did the Sport Chek in the City Centre Mall location.
As well as boutique stores and local clubs, Bonnie Doon is boosting business through the experience attractions center shoppers admired art displays throughout the building, listened to live music, and talked to local artists about their work.
The Night of Artists organization also runs a full-time art gallery in the space founder believes the mall's unique approach is restoring connections between neighbors, which are whittling away.
"It slows people down, and I think we need more [opportunities] where people stop and smell the roses and stop and look at the art," he said.
The Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre also operates an outdoor ice rink to attract families during winter months and a community vegetable garden in a storefront.
"[The garden] started during COVID as a team building exercise for our office staff, and we quickly realized that it takes many hands to grow vegetables," said Abbott.
"Volunteers come to take care of the plants, harvest them, and plant more fresh produce at Edmonton's The Mustard Seed and Youth Empowerment and Support Services.
Roxx, a store that sells semi-precious stones, fossils, and tiny carved penguins, fairies, and dragons, claims the new strategies are boosting business.
"Us personally have had a major influx of more traffic," said Roxx part-owner Jacqueline Bursey definitely may not be having as much success as us."
Mall organizers expect the Valley Line LRT, featuring a stop at the shopping center, will help retail businesses to build on recent momentum.
The Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre has invested 2 million in a transit plaza linking the mall, and the LRT station Valley Line is two years behind schedule and has not yet announced an opening date for the line.

Market Square ponders future as New Brunswick Museum leaves uptown Saint John
The New Brunswick Museum’s departure from Market Square in uptown Saint John presents a chance for a “refresh,” according to the building’s proprietor.
Almost all items from the museum’s exhibition space in Market Square are now removed and in storage, two years after the space was last open to the public.
Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture Tammy Scott-Wallace says a new temporary and permanent location for the New Brunswick Museum in Saint John will soon be announced.
The City of Saint John owns Market Square and it has a lease agreement with Hardman Group Ltd.
“The museum took three floors, so this is a chance for us to maybe break that space into a couple of different areas, (each) one building on the momentum of what people want to see on the waterfront,” says Bill Hardman, the president of Hardman Group Ltd.
Market Square opened in 1983 and was part of an uptown renaissance in Saint John which began in the 1970s.

The New Brunswick Museum began moving exhibits and artifacts into Market Square during the mid-90s, taking over a food court and boutique shops.
The exhibition space was officially opened in April 1996 by then Prince Charles.
In acknowledging the departure of a large tenant, Hardman says he doesn’t believe Market Square will fall into the descending trend of other malls near and far.
“I wouldn’t characterize Market Square as a downtown mall,” says Hardman. “It is many things. You can’t pinpoint it in one direction. That’s what makes Market Square special.”
The Market Square complex will continue to house the Saint John Free Public Library’s central branch.
Hardman says the complex’s atrium and centrepiece fountain will remain through any changes.
The provincial government initially cited a leaking roof as the reason for closing the museum’s Market Square location, after a partial roof collapse in October 2020. Scott-Wallace told CTV News on Friday that Market Square "was always intended to be a temporary location for the museum."
Hardman says a complete roof replacement at Market Square is ongoing, with millions of dollars spent on construction so far.
Earlier this year, the Hardman Group Ltd. tried to extend its lease agreement with the New Brunswick Museum by offering more space, ideas on an exterior re-design, as well as a monetary guarantee against any future roof issues.
With the museum officially leaving, Hardman says he’s looking forward to an announcement of new tenants before the end of 2023.
“For us, it’s a chance for us to have a refresh of Market Square,” says Hardman. “This change will be great for Market Square.”
Adjacent to the complex is ongoing work along Saint John’s waterfront of the Fundy Quay development.
Saint John Mayor Donna Reardon says Fundy Quay will only help in the city’s bid to secure new Market Square tenants.
“I think there are some real opportunities for that space,” says Reardon. “It’s a big space and it has a library there. Because of that, the public is in there quite a bit.”
Nancy Tissington, the executive director of Uptown Saint John Inc., says any empty space in a high profile area is “certainly a concern.”
“But one thing I’ve learned in this position over the last couple of years is that it’s also an opportunity,” says Tissington. “It’s an opportunity for somebody new to come in and share that space.”

Unlikely Delights
Part Two
Summary: Reader tries to “run into” Dan again, will it work out?
Warning: establishing age!gap, Dan mid 30’s Reader 21, 22
Note: It’s about Novemberish...they met in September. Reader and Dan have been running into each other a handful of times.
It was bitter cold today. “Billy remind me again why we didn’t tie the tarps around the buildings last week when it was in the fifties?” Dan grumbled
“Because the weather was supposed to hold.”
“Right.” Dan shook his head and pulled down on the cord and fastened it down.
“At least its not snowing yet.” Billy peered around his side of the small pharmacy.
“True, oh Tammy we got this. It is too cold out here. We’ll clean and do the rest?”
Tammy, smiled tucking some blond hair behind her ear. “Are you sure Mr. Torrance, Mr. Freeman? I finished my homework.”
Dan nodded but raised an eyebrow. “Dan, please.” But he smiled. “Yes, sweetheart we got this. Gone and enjoy your free time.”
She shifted where she stood. Billy stood up and echoed Dan’s nod. “Yes, go on little lady we got this. And yeah, Billy please. I don’t want to feel older then I am.”
She smiled brightly. “Ok. Have a good one, Dan and Billy.” Tammy waved, grabbing her bike that leaned against one of the oaks hopped on and rode off.
“She’s such a good kid.”
Billy nodded. “Yeah. Good kid, good family.”
“Yeah.” Dan sighed as he eyed the rest of the layout, “The clock tower or the church next?”
“Let’s get the clock tower, its such a pain in the ass.” Billy complained.
“It certainly is that.” He paused. “Hey Billy wanna hit the diner for dinner tonight.”
“Sure.” Billy shrugged.
“I’m so glad I’m off from the hospice tonight and I am in no mood to cook.”
“I hear that.”
*****
You were eyeing your phone. Class was over five minutes ago. The professor was just droning on and on, all because of the three day weekend.
Finally! You excitedly thought, you practically rocketed out of your seat. You pulled on your coat, and almost strangled yourself with how fast you tied your scarf. You rolled your eyes at how silly you were but all you could think about was Dan.
You really hoped you could catch him at teeny town. Today was when they were closing it for the winter. After that, you didn’t know how you were exactly going to run into him. Maybe today you could suggest coffee or something.
“Y/N are you coming to the party tonight?”
“Oh, hey Jen I’m not sure. I’ll call you.”
You walked fast out of classroom then the building. The coldness of outside hit you hard and you shivered, but the thought of possibly catching Dan made butterflies appear in your tummy. It was three blocks to Teeny Town, you could make it.
*****
“Alright, let’s now get to the rest of it.” Dan rubbed his hands together.
Together they unraveled the drop cloth and then stretched it good and tight. As he did and pulled it down then he paused.
Warmth filled him as he felt you. You were close. You were such a breath of fresh air, you were like the sun. His heart had picked up knowing, he’d see you. These last two months of little chats and encounters had always left him wanting a little more. You never failed to make him smile.
“Dan, Dan did you tie it?”
“Oh.” Dan chuckled. “Sorry got distracted.”
Billy laughed. “It’s alright Danno. Pull and tie.”
He did and then fastened it down. Eyeing the knot he made, he cleared his mind and himself be surprised your arrival.
“Guess who?” Two very soft and dainty hands covered his eyes. He let out a loud gasp.
*****
You had made it, a smile spread wide across your face. You calmed your breathing. That would be a dead give away. You had to be cool.
You eyed his soft dark strands, the curve of his cheek, which had the shadow of growth. Clean shaven, goatee or full on beard it had all looked great on him.
Walking over on small steps, you crept up behind him. With your heart racing you put your hands over his eyes.
“Guess who?”
His warm, pleasantly rough yet smooth hands covered yours. “Who could it be? Oh I know Janice from the diner are you bringing me a piece of pie?”
“Nope.”
Billy popped his head up and smiled and shook his head.
“One more guess!” You said cheerfully.
“Oh! I know. Abra! Does my sister know you’re here?”
You giggled. “No! It’s me silly.” You stood back to give him room to stand up.
He stood up and dusted his knees off. “Oh, hi there Y/N, I could have sworn you were my niece.”
“Oh Dan!” You just smiled and rolled your eyes. Gently you pushed him. “I’m so sure!”
He reached out and grabbed the ends of your scarf, he gently tugged on it. “Remember when your hair was this colorful?”
“I do.” He didn’t immediately let go of your scarf. “Maybe I will do it again soon.
“Hi Y/N!” Billy came around and Dan let go of your scarf.
“Hi Billy.” You said sweetly.
You stuffed your hands into your pockets.
“You must be cold.” Dan looked around, and gave you a soft smile.
“I’m fine.” You fibbed but couldn’t hide the shiver.
He stepped closer and rubbed one of your arms. The butterflies in your stomach went into a frenzy.
“Billy and I are going to catch dinner tonight at the diner.” He pressed his lips together, running his fingers through his hair. “Why don’t you meet us there, get a table and warm up.”
“Yeah?”
He nodded and gave your arm a squeeze. “Unless you have to go to help at the boutique?”
You shook your head. “No! I have the entire three day weekend off!” You said happily.
He smiled and your heart squeezed, as the butterflies stopped and turned entire flock of birds flapping their wings inside of you. “Fantastic! I have tonight off too.”
“Great! Ok, I’ll go grab us all a table.”
*****
“Dan?”
“What?” Dan, had not been able to wipe the grin off his lips as they finished up.
“Umm, you were grumpy and cold, well now...” His voice trailed off.
Dan nudged his friend in the shoulder. “She’s cute.”
“She is, she twinkles when she looks at you.”
“Does she?” Dan stopped.
“Yeah buddy. But Dan, she’s young.”
Dan sighed. “She is but she’s not a kid. I don’t know. I..” Now it was time his voice trailed off.
“True. Just be careful.”
Dan rose eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
Billy shrugged. “You are a bit of heart breaker.”
“Two girlfriends and a few dates does not make me a heart breaker. And Janice is happily engaged now.”
“Yes, but still moony over you.”
Dan shook his head. “She is not.”
“She is too.” Billy stopped. “Alright just don’t let her be the reason why you get back on the bus.”
“Billy! Seriously?”
“I had to say it. She seems like the one that could really be something.”
“You think so.”
“Maybe.” He shrugged. “I worry about you.”
He nudged his friend again. “Billy, I’m not going anywhere. My family is here, Abra would probably kill me.” He chuckled. “And my best friend is too.” He eyed Billy.
“Oh, don’t be sentimental.” Billy replied dryly.
“Well, its true.”
“Thanks pal. Alright, as your best pal of course, I’m going to worry.”
“Thank you. But I think it will be ok. I have a good feeling.”
“Ok, good. You are happier since that first hug.”
“I am.” Dan chuckled and pushed open the door to the diner.”
*****
You glanced back as you walked away. You couldn’t help notice Dan was still smiling, that certainly brought a spring to your step.
Once in the diner, you began to warm. Dan had certainly been right about that. You shrugged out of your coat and scarf.
While you waited you had switched where you sat twice. You were so nervous. Then you tried sitting as differently as you could after finally settling on what side you sit on.
“Water, honey?” Asked the warm voice of the waitress.
“Yes, please. Three.”
“Three?”
“I have some friends joining me.”
“Oh ok! Great. I’ll bring those over.”
Hearing, the rich sound of Dan’s laughter made nervously open and close your hands under the table. You could do this and not be completely silly.
Turning, where you sat you smiled and waved. “I’m over here!” You called.
