As Syrus walks into the Silver-Blood Inn, he does a scan of the room. Nothing seems particularly out of place at first glance — it’s clearly packed with regular customers, mercenaries looking to be hired, and plenty of nords side-eyeing him as he wanders toward the bar. With the stranglehold the Thalmor have on Markarth, though, Syrus can hardly blame them for their judgment.

If they only knew…

“I’ll take two flagons of warm mead,” Syrus tells the barkeep, sliding some coins over. “And a room, if there’s one available.”

While he’s waiting on the drinks, he can’t help but overhear bits of other conversations drifting through the room, though one in particular catches his attention:

“…of course, I am the world’s foremost expert in dwemer metallurgy! Taron Dreth. I’m here in Markarth to visit my colleague, Calcelmo. He’s very intrigued in my research on Aetherium. Not that I expect you to know anything about that!”

“Taron Dreth, you said?” Syrus asks, slipping a little closer to the dunmer who was talking to an old nord. In unison, the elf and three mercenaries sitting near him turn to face him. “I’m sorry, it’s just… I’m sure I’ve heard your name before, somewhere. Perhaps in a book?”

The elf perks up a little, clearly preening. “Yes, of course! You must have read the Aetherium Wars! That was the culmination of years of grueling research. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to explore dwemer ruins?”

“Oh, yes,” Syrus says, grimacing. “I’ve spent plenty of time in old ruins. Even when I was young, my father used to have me help him collect things to tinker with. If you think dwemer devices are bad, you should see some of the mechanisms the ayleids came up with!”

Taron frowns a little, crossing his arms defensively. “Yes, well, I don’t really have time to chat about — ”

“And you mentioned Aetherium?” Syrus continues, smiling. He taps into his magic a little, holds a silent spark of it in his palm. “That’s truly fascinating!  I’m certain my partner would love to talk with you! She’s been doing a lot of grueling research in old ruins herself.”

Syrus hears the inn’s doors open again, watches Taron’s eyes flick over his shoulder and lock onto the person that just came in. His face pales, and he stands quickly, drawing a dagger from his belt. “Shit, that’s — !”

He’s too slow. Syrus steps forward and grabs him, feels the spark arc through his body, paralyzing him. “Ah, that’s where I’ve heard your name before. From Katria, your… what was it? Friend and colleague? Who you stole all that research from?”

Taron lets out a choked noise, then slumps forward. Syrus hears his guards draw their weapons, but they’re far too late. “Not another move,” Katria calls from the doorway. “Or the last thing you’ll taste is my steel.”

They hesitate. One takes a step forward, then falls as an arrow slips through a crack in his armor, proving her aim is true. The other two guards freeze, and the room falls into an eerie silence. Syrus listens to Katria’s footsteps approach as he lowers Taron’s body to the ground, feels her stop right behind him.

When he looks to her, he can see the conflicting emotions on her face — fury in her eyes one moment, then relief, and… perhaps a little sorrow, too. She shakes her head. “I bet your regret making an enemy out of me, old friend,” she sighs. “Let’s go, Syrus. Our drinks are waiting for us.”

A Dreth Hypothesis / me being a Dreth stan.

I cried when I heard another Dreth was added in Skyrim and I was like “holyshit okay he bad” like Romlyn just was your normal Skyrim folk trying to get by doing whatever it takes (which ripping off Maven is actually an act of kindness fck Maven (she is pretty though and I do wuv her)). But Taron had a lot going for him, he was intelligent and was an understudy but it wasn't good enough for him. To kill for that research, when he was there to help, supposedly. He didn’t have to do that, that was above and beyond evil. Taron lost his goddamn mind. Romlyn just wants to make some fcking money to get by. Taron wants a fcking alter. Taron and Romlyn are just very different Dreths in their approaches in life. Romlyn seems to be endeared with Valen and its sweet and he just loves his family. Taron is just a jerk who will kill anyone in his way literally and quite possibly a psychopath. (Which isn't off for most villain in TES).  And there is my theory of Dreths cursed by Sheogorath since Hloval Dreth is seen in Shivering Isles. He has to relive how he failed his people and wanted to be treated like a god.  And it contrasts well with Valen being across from the new vessel of Sheogortah and Valen is clearly losing his mind. In prison for 11 years of being beat and left for death. Its amazing he’s still alive and is about to make his full sentence but the catch, he is losing his mind and or has lost it and has butt heads with the vessel of Sheogorath and will pay. Most likely ends up where Hloval is at. And one big thing that should be mentioned is that Dunmer do worship sheogorath and had stopped during the Tribunal Times. And I think Sheogorath honestly went for a lot of Dunmer to torment and get what he wanted.  Sheogorath is said to just have flung that meteor to any random place but come on, it goes straight above Vivec’s temple who has made the worship of him rather irrelevant and left to ashlanders who are shunned and constantly pushed more and more away from the dunmer Houses.   And this going into a timeline of the Nerevarine coming in and setting things straight which the dunmer suffer greatly during this time. And during this time Valen is alive and even in prison in Cyrodill still. He says hes from Vardenfell so it points to him most likely having worshiped the Tribunal. But being a descendant of Hloval he is cursed by Sheogorath and would succumb to the torment sooner or later. And I believe every Dreth is cursed by Sheogorath but Romlyn is the one who makes it out the best he can. As you can jail him two times apparently under different circumstances.  Meanwhile Taron is truly a lost cause and there is nothing you can do for him. So truly they can make choices to get away from this curse and I believe Romlyn has once the DB makes an ultimate choice over him to turn him in, frame him, and or even marry him.  And I find marrying Romlyn Dreth to be significant in this stance. Since every hero is a reincarnation of a higher being, they control the worlds and the last Dragon Born can save this Dreth from Sheogorath’s curse.

Still making art, I swear! OMG this is my favorite one I ever did. Apparently 80's and early 90's music is a great vibe for Romlyn Dreth. As a result, this is titled Red Mountain's Fire (St. Elmo's Fire). Wanna change the lyrics to it to make it Morrowind themed.

My headcanon Romlyn has freckles because it's cute af on him.

The robes are actually Taron Dreth's (may or may not be a relation) but since they're fortified with destruction, they were perfect for my little pyro. He deserves nice clothes. He deserves everything. 🥺

New boots. They're very similar to the base UNP boots from LE (that I believe Merta Assassin used and retextured). The two other variants (calf/knee-height and thigh-high) are, in my opinion, badly handled when it comes to shape data in Bodyslide. We're talking serious gaps between the leg and the leather. But these? Aside from a vague Kingdom Hearts feel when looking at them straight on, I'm happy. And I finally bothered to do Lost to the Ages again, so my girl is wandering around wearing the Aetherial Crown, waiting to hopefully run into that one asshole so she can kill him. Taron Dreth or something? I forget. Found a gorgeous outfit, though since it's a conversion (again), and we don't have the original HDT (and CBPC can't handle cloth physics), there's a hanging bit in the back that sticks out oddly. The boots for it are flat, which sucks. I'll be sticking to my mash-up of Misfit Mage + Emfy Cleric for the moment. Plus these boots. The one thing I've noticed so far about heels for SE is that everything has an extra inch or two at the bottom that sinks into the ground (which means heel caps are generally not even visible, despite being properly textured).

Feel the need to go back to the mainland to see all these Sadris. But honestly wow! I like how the Sadri line keeps showing up with rather corrupt mer. Not all of them though of course.

I really would like to see Mistress Dratha now. I'll have to keep an eye out now that I'm not doing the main quest in vvardenfell anymore. I'm still trying to level to go into the cursed forgotten wastes or whatever dungeon.

As for me and the Dreth family it's most likely due to Romlyn being my first and only spouse in Skyrim and then playing the games backwards and seeing Valen and then to Madsu ( who is even more insignificant than Valen). But to me it showed that the Dreths play a role in tes lore. And once Taron Dreth was added in the last dlc for Skyrim I was like "yea there is something going on with these Dreths and I will figure it out".

So it's actually odd that the Sadri line is shown to be involved with corrupt families or being corrupt themselves when the Dreths have a horrible record themselves and in eso it's just not so that I've seen so far.

So my curiosity is constantly piqued with them and I absolutely love to work on any connections I get or don't and have fun with my own story.

@romlyndreth yup! I couldn’t help but make Vedryn a Sadri, Revyn Sadri was my first (and favorite) spouse in Skyrim, I had to have a little homage to him. 😂 I like to think she’s a distant ancestor.

While doing a job for the Dawnguard, I ran into Taron Dreth, author of <i>The Aetherium Wars</i>! I quickly revealed what me and Katria's ghost had done, so long ago... He had his guards try to kill me. Fool. I quickly killed him, and sighed. It feels like a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders...
