i don't have any proper fanart to pair with today's episode doodles, but i'm actually quite pleased with how they all turned out, so why not allow myself to "shitpost"
also this was said to me about the willy sketch by matt, and i don't think i'll recover from it ever. uh, ignore me being horny for willyam, that's not... well, it is exactly what you think coughs furiously and dies

“Now, I may be wrong, but frankly, I doubt it.”
So I finished a draft of my new and improved resume today and I’m super jazzed about it. It looks hella professional (jokes on you, recruiters!) and it makes sense in a way my resumes never have before. I’ve got that nice, warm feeling of accomplishment going. Gotta appreciate the little wins where you can.
Keeping with this nice little boost ( while I listen to 1989 Taylor’s Version), I wanna talk about another comfort show I got into last year. Stay with me here, really.
Murder, She Wrote.
HEAR ME OUT!
Wherein a retired English teacher from a sleepy seaside town in Maine that never gentrifies simultaneously discovers she’s incredible at writing murder mysteries and solving real life murders.
If you were born in the 80’s like I was, you’ve seen at least pieces of episodes on tv when you were a kid. You could probably recognize the intro music and you most likely think ‘yeah, I’m good on that.’ BUT! But, but, but….
It’s really got everything. Random murders with ridiculous weapons that make you go ‘I really don’t think that would have killed someone’ and dead bodies with very little blood. Like, there’s never blood. And random guest stars you’d never expect. And murderers you can guess sometimes and sometimes you can’t because it’s convoluted or silly but that makes the episode better. But those wily murderers are always, always caught.
And there are TWELVE SEASONS! 264 episodes, running longer than the typical 42 minutes because we used to not shove so many ads down our fucking throats.
I spent like, nine months making my way through it and it was fantastic. Jessica Fletcher is an absolute badass, and she’s the grandmother figure I didn’t even realize I wanted. This bish is polite to a fault, whip smart, observant, and she faces down murderer after murderer without ever losing her nerve. She is utterly fierce, but kind. And you don’t really get a lot of female characters like that.
This powerhouse would outwit cops easily, solve their shit with the weirdest clues and seemingly random details, and then she’d make them feel like they did a good job and let them take the credit. She doesn’t want notoriety, she’s already got it through her best sellers, she just wants to help and ultimately catch the bad guy.
There are so many things I love about this show. It satisfies my pure, unadulterated lust for ridiculous murders, while making you feel cozy as hell. It’s comforting to know that by the end of the episode someone was going down and everything would be wrapped up neatly. Sometimes you need that.
And the fact that her character is an extremely accomplished writer in the universe is wonderful. Like, she sat down at her kitchen table one day and banged out some incredible book. And then kept doing it. Throughout the series, there’s mention of like THIRTY different books that she wrote. It’s totally implausible, there’s no way she’s writing like two books a year while also running into all these dead bodies but I love it. It makes my heart happy. It makes me want to write something, finally. Something real.
And y’all. The cameos. THE CAMEOS! Young Courtney Cox. JERRY ORBACH and his entire arc! George freakin’ Clooney. Baby Neil Patrick Harris! That one guy from that thing, and that chick from the other thing! Literally, everyone. I got my sister watching and she was behind me so every couple of days she was getting texts about who popped up. It’s impressive, really. If you were trying to be anyone in the late eighties, early nineties, you had to get your ass on Murder, She Wrote.
ALSO, Angela Lansbury is amazing. Hell of an actress, talent oozing from her pores. At one point, she plays her own British cousin, and it’s fantastic. She was in her 60’s when the show started! Like, someone gave a 60-year-old actress her own show. She was a ground breaker, a glass shatterer. She was a fucking icon.
I’m not sure what I’m driving at here really, but the show is just, such a place and time. And that place and time are really beautiful and relaxing and soothing and silly and entertaining. You don’t get shows like this anymore. Everything has to be edgy and dark and foreboding and yeah it’s a show about murder primarily but it doesn’t feel like that. Why can’t we make fluffy murder shows that make you feel like you're just hanging out with your cool aunt, and she’s radiating  the intrinsic knowledge that everything is going to be perfectly fine? Why isn’t that a thing? Are we just that terribly jaded now?
Jessica Fletcher is a treasure. And she’ll warm your heart from the inside out. If you need to be snug and cozy, Cabot Cove is the place for you. It never changes and it never should and there are no loose ends. It’s just nice. And there isn’t enough nice out there. Trust me, and get it where you can.

“In the Soviet Union they considered Vivien Leigh as the greatest movie star of them all and Waterloo Bridge (1940) as one of the great films of all time. In America, they gave her the plum role of Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind (1939) and two Academy Awards. In England she was mainly the wife of Laurence Olivier, the world’s greatest stage actor – no wonder she made so few films and had such an odd movie career. She made ten films before Gone with the Wind, ambitiously acquiring a reputation, and worked in only eight more after that epic made her world-famous – admittedly she suffered from ill-health and considered herself primarily a stage actress, but it does seem as if a fine screen talent was semi-wasted … Her movie persona was a fascinating one. Despite her incredible Dresden doll beauty, she was one of the cinema’s great not-very-nice ladies; not quite the bitch type, more the unscrupulous, wily, kittenish beauty who uses sexual attraction as a weapon to get her own way. The role of Scarlett was the greatest embodiment of this seemingly unsympathetic but actually mesmerizing personality, but virtually all her roles were this type.”
/ From The Illustrated Encyclopedia of The World’s Great Movie Stars (1979) by Ken Wlaschin /
Born on this day 110 years ago: brilliant, fragile and intense English stage and film actress Vivien Leigh (5 November 1913 - 8 July 1967). Alongside Anna Magnani and Elizabeth Taylor, Leigh was one of the screen’s definitive interpreters of Tennessee Williams’ work (my all-time favourite performance of hers is in The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone (1961)).

Hi! Uhm, if it's possible (totally get it if not), can you guys help me look for alternative face claims for Jack Black? I had a character that used to have him as a face claim, but I don't feel comfortable using him anymore, since he's pro-Israel. Thank you for your time, if this reached you and I hope you have a nice day or night, whatever time it might be!
Jon Favreau (1966) Ashkenazi Jewish / Italian, French-Canadian, German.
and:
Cedric the Entertainer (1964) African-American.
Taylor Wily (1968) Samoan.
Eric Stonestreet (1971)
Nick Frost (1972)
Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (1973)
Matt Berry (1974)
David Harbour (1975)
Matty Matheson (1982)
Cameron Britton (1986)
Charley Koontz (1987)
Atkins Estimond (1987) Afro-Haitian - is pro ceasefire!

Some reviews of Jenna Coleman in Wilderness!
this series would not be what it is without Jenna Coleman and her excellent characterization of Liv. I have loved Coleman since her Doctor Who days, but Wilderness helped cement how expansive her acting talent is. She’s a powerhouse as the bombastic Liv, showcasing the two extremes of a person who has had their heart broken and eventually becomes broken herself. However, through the shattering of her life, Liv reassembles the pieces into something else, which is beautiful to witness. Although within the beauty is a darker side, which Coleman portrays perfectly.
As the protagonist who blunders as often as she succeeds, Jenna Coleman was an inspired choice. Her ability to play the human side of occasionally morally grey characters (as she did with aplomb during her reign as Victoria) lends a kind of authenticity to Liv’s struggle that makes you want to continue alongside her down her chosen path, if only to see where it will lead.
Jenna Coleman shines in this pulpy revenge thriller
Jenna Coleman is pitch perfect as Liv and is able to brilliantly tap into Liv’s fury and rage as she discovers Will’s infidelity. Coleman mostly carries the whole series on her shoulders, but she’s supported by Jackson-Cohen.
Don’t worry, Wilderness wisely turns the tables, evolving Liv believably as the rug is constantly pulled from under her feet. Coleman is a consistent delight in this role, bringing exceeding levels of empathy and expressiveness to Liv as rage and ego tend to drive her decisions.
Coleman, who is largely known for playing an array of plucky, likable heroines in period dramas and genre properties, is clearly having a blast inhabiting a character who goes so against her usual type. She still manages to give Liv some surprisingly human layers, particularly when it comes to her relationship with her mother and the unexpected sympathy she often seems to feel for Cara.
Known for an array of roles in The Serpent, The Cry, Doctor Who and lest we forget Emmerdale, Coleman's beguiling on-screen presence is a perfect match for the ever-complicated Liv. Like the former Gillian Flynn novel-turned-movie, Coleman commands attention in the same way as Rosamund Pike, a feat not to be scoffed at.
Of course, a great script means nothing without great actors, and on that front everybody here is acting their socks off. Coleman’s Liv is beautifully enigmatic.
It’s unpredictable and, thanks in large part to Coleman, who acts with a perpetual wily glint in her cosmically expressive eyes, entertaining in a blunt way.
The most persuasive aspect of Wilderness is the performances. Coleman and Jackson-Cohen perform as if they’re convinced by the script, rippling with aggressive and sensual chemistry. You can understand why Jackson-Cohen accepted; he’s become typecast as the Toxic Boyfriend since The Invisible Man remake and The Haunting of Bly Manor. But this is a surprising turn for Coleman, who shot to fame as one of Doctor Who’s best companions and delivered a beautiful performance in The Cry. She’s a proven force, so why is she dealing with television scraps? She deserves better than this silly, if seductive, drive to vengeance. Wilderness is lucky to have her.
Jenna Coleman sells her role as Liv Taylor and has the cuteness to pull off her crazy side
Coleman is ravishing as a wannabe murderess

Dr. Taylor Harp
A robotics developer who started her career building simple-AI animal robots for daily job functions.
When breaking into the field of more powerful, humanoid robots, she apprenticed under Dr. Cossack before setting out on her own. She’s a firm believer that robots can better society for humans by working alongside them, rather than replacing them or being strictly controlled by them. As a result, a majority of her robots are dedicated to construction and other civil engineering tasks.
Early in life, she had a keen interest in reptile keeping and herpetoculture, and pursued it as a hobby alongside her education in engineering and robotics, for which she was considered a particular genius. When she began designing her own robots, she started with non-humanoid reptile models. Only after her apprenticeship did she switch over, but tries to keep to her theme, even if it means stealing some design inspiration (though she did get permission from Dr. Cossack for the two robots she based on Toad Man).
Her…interesting sense of humor leads her to come up with names for her robots with multiple meanings, usually resulting in very bad puns. Many of her puns play into Japanese words and pronunciations due to mixed heritage and predominantly Japanese upbringing.
Almost completely blind without her glasses.
Dr. Harp owns an inordinately large number of reptile and amphibian-themed Hawaiian print/aloha shirts, and she is almost always wearing one under her lab coat. What started off as a one-off gag of her buying a few and wearing them to work turned into a long-running tradition of her being given them as gifts by colleagues and lab staff, to the point where they are simply the most economical shirts to wear without worrying about wasting money.
When she’s not designing, tweaking, and repairing her own robots, Dr. Harp joins them in the field, donning armor (often referred to as the Tegu Suit) that makes her look a bit like a robot, herself. The armor contains things like boosters and other tools, as well as providing protection. She’s less about the civil engineering itself, and more about being on-hand to repair and modify construction robots and other complex equipment on-site. Has a lab assistant 'pet' akin to Rush, Beat, Tango, or Reggae; a tegu named Skar (スカー; also "Ska"). While technically non-gendered, most of the lab staff and the other Harp Numbers refer to Skar with female pronouns. (refined art and name adjustment pending)

Though initially assumed to transform into the Tegu Suit in a manner akin to Rush's Super Adaptor, Skar merely contains the Tegu Suit's parts in an encapsulated form, which can be equipped on-call.
The first humanoid robot Dr. Harp designed was known as "Monitor Woman" (モニターウーマン), intended to be based on monitor lizards and tegus. The intent was specifically to survey and monitor sites and surrounding areas before and during construction projects, equipped with extremely advanced analysis and recording equipment. However, she vanished mysteriously while in the very early prototype phase of her development.
Dr. Harp suspected Dr. Wily to be behind the theft, leading her to eventually start plagiarizing his designs.
She has a pretty good idea what happened… and who her precious 'first child' eventually became...
