TestFlight & The Salt Keep Beta
I don't know if anybody on here cares about the technical side of this beta test, but I wish the TestFlight app that Apple uses for iOS beta testing would let you respond to feedback. It's got this built-in screenshot feature that's very useful, way more than Android has going on, but as I incorporate fixes, I feel like there ought to be a way to sort of acknowledge the tester so they know I've seen it.
Even just a kind of checkmark system so I could cross off things that have been handled would be nice. Give me a little box to check here:
Tumblr media
Maybe that's not the intended way to use it, but I think if I were a tester I'd want some acknowledgment that the particular stuff I had submitted had been seen. Especially a small beta test like the one I'm running, where there aren't hundreds of anonymous testers, but a very finite number of familiar people. I don't know, whatever.

LONG POST OF DOOM
This is simply for me to keep here, since I deleted the other blog some time ago (it was a paranormal thing, debunks etc., CBA to get it going, really, and there's much better people doing stuff along these lines). In said blog, I'd made a post about a UFO I'd seen back in the 1990s - essentially I saw something zip across the sky in the distance, and then stop a moment before shooting up and seemingly out of the atmosphere. After making the post, I did a little more digging around about that time, and the below is the result:
Update on my "UFO" experience
I am absolutely thrilled to have something of a possible explanation for what I saw.
Honestly, I love - and even prefer - a good real world explanation over a paranormal one. It's absolutely essential for anyone with an interest in all things weird to keep their heads firmly on their shoulders, to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff; to be honest, not to jump to conclusions, and channel our inner Sherlock:
'"You will not apply my precept," he said, shaking his head. "How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?"'
- Sherlock Holmes, The Sign of the Four, ch. 6 (1890)
Harder to do than at first thought, mind! This is why it's crucial to have some self-reflection, to be aware of our own biases, lack of knowledge and preferences. When I say I saw a UFO, I'm stressing again it doesn't mean I think I saw aliens from another planet (even if that might be cool, what if Stephen Hawking was right? Yeesh, no thank you, please). I'm saying I saw something flying that did something unusual in my experience and knowledge of such things. Therefore, I figured I needed to speak someone who has a clue about aircraft capabilities. And I'm lucky enough that my own father has that knowledge (trained (naval) engineer, lifelong military vehicle enthusiast, air show and museum veteran and watcher and reader of all stuff military; now makes a living selling model kits of aircraft, navy vessels, tanks, that sort of thing. In other words, knows a fair whack about military aircraft!).
He told me that in Britain, there's been aircraft capable of flying vertically since the 1960s. The English Electric Lightning was a fighter aircraft between the 1960s and 1980s, with Mach 2 capability, and more importantly yes, it can fly straight up with panache. There's several documentaries freely available on YouTube about it, but the most useful for me was this one here - about a minute in it shows the aircraft's clever manoeuvre. Fantastic. The aircraft has turned up, post-1980s, in air shows like the one in the video. Could I have seen a pilot practising for such a show?
I'm not going to rule it out completely.
However, my sighting was in the late 1990s, and there was another, newer aircraft which might be a more likely candidate.
The Eurofighter Typhoon prototype had its maiden flight in 1994, and in 1998, the first production contracts were signed. Additionally, BAE Systems were responsible for the British part of the aircraft's production, specifically BAE Warton, which is just south of Blackpool, in the northwest of England. My sighting was in Cheshire, a little ways to the south, but not all that far for an aircraft such as the Eurofighter.
Though it wasn't truly in service until 2003, there was a good testing period, where, according to its own website:
" Over the late 1990s and early 2000s the aircraft undertook extensive environmental, weapon firing, in-flight fueling (sic) and supersonic speed tests."
My dad advised testing (and manoeuvres, practice, etc.) can take place at night, due to fewer civilian flights, and then often at sea because of all the obvious reasons you can think of. Having looked on a map for my orientation, I might well have been looking out toward the Irish Sea, and the fact I heard nothing could be due to the distance involved. I might also be mistaken with thinking the aircraft I saw actually stopped for a moment before continuing vertically; again due to distance and also darkness, perhaps I was actually seeing the craft adjust position and was unable to see it for what it was clearly enough.
Frankly, if this is the case, if I somehow managed to see a Eurofighter Typhoon during the testing phase, I think I would count myself just as lucky, if not more so, than if I saw a real alien craft instead.
Would love to know if anyone else had a similar experience, perhaps with more information regarding the actual nature of the type of aircraft they saw (feel free to message me if so!)
Still think alien life exists, mind.
