INFO 303 - THE MULTIPLE MEDIA OF TEXTS by Anne Frances Wysocki “GIF, meme, and/or emoji story”
I liked how this text started off comparing and contrasting the differences between outlets that require people to read and disecting what different questions arrise when you switch from writing yourself verses when you read a published article. Text states “you probably do not consider the size of paper you will use or how to indent your paragraphs; instead, you use whatever paper is in the printer and you follow the page-layout conventions..... Meanwhile, we expect other texts—comic books, children’s books, web pages—to highlight or even celebrate their visuality, using multiple typefaces and many colors.”
While reading, I also found it very interesting how there are multiple responsibilities that go into crafting simple things such as the first bold letter that is present in a magazine spread and how those same responsibilites exisited years ago when the manuscript pages of the Middle Age were being created.
The world of design has shifted because before everything used to be on paper now we have technology which allows us to be able to create spreadsheets and things with color that grasps the readers minds and helps control their memory. The text that relates to this is “Desktop publishing allows writers more visual control over their own texts than the structures of book publishing have. These various technologies offer perspectives for considering and changing the approaches we have inherited to composing and interpreting pages.”
Another part in this text that interested me was when Typefaces were introduced as “a major visual strategy for a text’s composers to signal the genre into which the text is to fit.“
