I think the reason Jaron lost all of his character development in the 4th book was because of erick's death. Sure they weren't so close and jaron, being the unreliable narrator he is, didn't express that he was sad, but it obviously effected him.

whenever a loved one of his dies, he relapses into thinking he's all alone. It happened with his parents and erick. I'm gonna add onto this post after reading the 5th book because ik Kerwyn dies too.

Erick's death had jaron once again not trusting anyone because he didnt want anyone to die, which is actually really sad. He trusted erick to handle things and boom, istantly he's out like a light. It didn't help that wilta was also lying and trying to earn his trust either.

I, for one, found it hilarious how ridiculously grumpy Jaron was throughout the Captive Kingdom

literally my favorite line ever. he had no chill whatsoever throughout the entire book.

And that's not even 1/100th of it.
