Empire CLS- 700 million dollar company, how did they enter the limo business?
Empire CLS today is a limo company headquartered in New Jersey under the holding company GTS Holdings Inc. GTS Holdings was created in February 2005, when equity investment partners purchased CLS Transportation and merged Empire Transport services under  a single company Empire CLS.
The term CLS was attached to Empire, creating Empire CLS to safeguard the CLS brand name. The CLS brand name was reputable brand among Hollywood, 5-star properties and private chartered centers, brokers, FBO’s and affluent corporate executives. Charlie Horky started CLS back in 1981 with a single black stretch limousine in Beverly Hills Hollywood. Charles grew the modern-day Empire CLS from transporting Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, and the entire Hollywood entourage. Even throughout the 1990’s CLS aka Empire CLS continued to grow themselves into newer cities.
Charlie Horky opened a branch in San Francisco, CLS branch in Brooklyn New York, a CLS branch office in Vail Colorado. Mr. Horky was savy businessman, entrepreneur and a charming salesman who even opened up an office in Las Vegas Nevada. The CLS brand truly became an empire under Charlie Horky, so big that managing it all became a challenge to personal life and liberty. CLS used to subcontract trips out trip to Empire Transport services in New Jersey. Empire was founded by David Seelinger around the early 1980’s. Slowly, the idea came to surface about merging CLS with Empire, and yet Charlie would still operate his Las Vegas Branch independently.
Mr. David Seelinger managed the Empire CLS brands well, so the board decided to keep him running the Empire CLS brand in New Jersey and Los Angeles. Empire CLS continued to grow with new technology, new travel agencies and a new booking platform known as Be Transported. Be Transported was a booking reservation management system created under David Seelinger exclusively for Empire CLS. Even with the Corona Virus lockdown, David Seelinger implemented plans to survive the industry.
In 2023, Praesidian Capital has invested 10 million of senior secured debt into Empire CLS. Praesidian Capital. This investment allowed Empire CLS to add newer vehicles, upgraded buildings, and remarket itself into newer opportunities as group and bus travel networks.
Charlie Horky closed Las Vegas CLS due to some financial hardships. However Charlie Horky has married, and lives a healthy stressless life. Charlie Horky operates a limo service known as SLADE.
The legendary Empire CLS built by the legendary Charlie Horky and continued growth with David Seelinger.

HIRING LIMOUSINES SERVICES AND RENTALS FOR ALL OCCASIONS
Limousine is a special vehicle that brings pride and elegance on every occasion. It is a luxury vehicle that is preferred by people who want to make a good impression on a special occasion. It is a ride that will surely bring excitement and thrill to anyone. But we all know that a limousine is a vehicle that not anyone can afford. Thankfully, today anyone can have the opportunity to ride this kind of vehicle through the help of Limo service in Bronx NY and Limo service in Long Island. Limousine service and rental offer a lot of services like a wedding limo in NY or a party bus rental in NYC. You just have to consider some factors before you hire limousine services and rentals.
In Brooklyn, limo rental offers a lot of different services. Some are even better than others. That is the reason why you should consider the services that they offer before you hire them.  You must also check their reputation as a limousine service provider. You must also consider the kind of customer service that they have, especially the way their chauffeurs deal and communicate with their clients. This will help you find the most reliable and reputable limousine services that will help you in creating a great impression on your special day.
You must also consider the price and rates of their services. Various limousine rentals differ from one service provider to the other. Other limousine companies charge their limousines on a per hour basis, others per day, and so on. It is important that you get the kind of service that will meet not only your needs but also your budget. It will be advisable that you set the number of hours that you plan to hire their limousine service before you hire them so that you won’t have to pay extra charges if you go over your target time.
Another thing that you must consider in hiring limousine services and rentals is the variety of limousines available for rent. There are many kinds and styles of limousines that you can find that are designed for different occasions and designed to make a certain impression on a particular event like weddings, celebrities, and many more. It is important that your chosen limousine rental has a variety of vehicles that you can choose from, this will help you with deciding on what vehicle to rent for your specific special occasion.
You must also consider the convenience of the limousine service before any limousine rental company. It would be advisable to hire a limousine service provider that is close to your target location. This will help you in avoiding delays and hassles on the day of your special occasion. This will also help you in solving problems in case of misunderstandings.
In hiring limousine services or signing any contracts with a limousine rental service, ask about their proof of licenses, insurances, and other paperwork. This will make you sure that whatever happens you are under their coverage.

Choices From Limo Rental NYC For Your Wedding Guest
Tumblr media
There is no point of complaining or crying over why you invited guests who tried to spoil your day in your limo rental NYC or Brooklyn Car Service when going back home. We all have heard of wedding crashes people who come uninvited to a wedding, dance, eat, drink for free and then leave. But there are people much worse than them. People who are your family and friends but try their best to ruin the most important day of your life. We call them wedding hijackers!
Tumblr media
It can be an annoying kid who won’t stop crying, a finicky aunt who keeps complaining about how close her seat is from the speaker, a drunken uncle who won’t know when to stop or frat boys who will keep flirting with the bridesmaids. The point being, these people will be hell-bent to ruin the most important day of your life. But wait these aren’t the only ones!
There are 4 more personalities who will try to steal your thunder and there is very little you can do about it.
The fussy Bridesmaid
There will always be that one lady who will complain about the expenses, the colors, cut or shape of the dress, the makeup and hairdo! Let he know who is the boss. If she can’t come on terms with you, it is best to degrade her from the special treatment she is receiving as a bridesmaid.
The Bossy Mother-in-Law
Tumblr media
She will insist on inviting more people and might even suggest that you cut off some unimportant people from your list so that her so-called kitty party friends can come to the wedding. Not only that, she will judge all your choices from Party Bus Rental New York City to the theme of the event.
The egghead Wedding Guest
The Miss-know-it-all! Just because she had attended a few more weddings than you, she will act as the boss and try to impose her judgments on you. Saying things like don’t wear white as it doesn’t go with your skin tone to why you didn’t rent limos instead of NYC Limo Rental, they will basically try to make it their day instead of yours.
Tumblr media
The My-life-my-Rules Guest
Such guests wish that they be treated like royalty when the only person to be treated like one is the bride and groom. They will threaten to not show up if you don’t arrange for a separate limo rental NYC for them or let their kids attend the event when they know it is an adults-only event. Call us Now - (917) 722-1119

Buskin with The Beatles FB page
This date in '68: one of rock's finest moments.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_MjCqQoLLA
10 years later, in fanzine 'The Write Thing', audience member Sher M. of Brooklyn, New York, gave a detailed recollection of that historic promo shoot:
"It began the evening before when, at EMI, we were all given invitations by Mal (Evans) to attend 'a TV performance by The Beatles', as they worded it. But actually the key word on the priceless piece of paper was 'take part' in a Beatles performance. None of us had any idea what that would involve. Some thought we'd be on the popular English program 'Top Of the Pops' with the Beatles. 'Taking part' would have meant dancing on the show. That prospect was not exactly thrilling.
"Well anxious and excited, we met at Paul's house (Cavendish Avenue, just blocks from EMI) to wait for him to leave for the studio. The filming was to take place at Twickenham Studios. At Paul's there were about 10 people, including my three friends and I. Paul came out after a limousine arrived. He was with Nat Weiss, an American lawyer and associate at the time and friend of the late Brian Epstein.
"Paul was wearing a red velvet jacket. He held up the limo while we crowded around his side of the car. After a few minutes of autograph signing for some German girls, the car drove off with Paul waving to us.
"We made our way to Victoria Station. Apple was providing our bus transportation to the studio and back. A lot of the 'regulars' from Cavendish Ave. were already there. We all boarded the bus, about 30 of us now, and headed for the studio. We later found out that meanwhile The Beatles were filming the 'Revolution' promo film.
"When we arrived and ran up to the gate, I could hear John singing at the top of his lungs. Mal came over to us and said we'd be allowed in shortly. I heard John stop singing and then start again, trying to get the song perfect. It was unreal thinking The Beatles were right in the building, next to where we were standing. Needless to say, we were all nervous wrecks!
"Mal led us through the gates and took us to a cafeteria for tea and sandwiches, but we weren't very hungry. As we sat there, two more buses arrived with about forty more people. We were getting mad thinking there would now be a real mob scene. Finally, we were all led into a courtyard over which was a glass-enclosed walkway going from one building to the next. As we were standing there, James Paul McCartney himself comes walking overhead and, seeing all of us down below, he stops and waves. Never let it be said that Paul passes up an opportunity to ham it up a bit. We all started jumping up and down, going quite mad by then as the tension and excitement built.
"Paul ran out of sight and we (now about 50 people) were brought into the studios. (Mal Evans wrote in the Beatles Monthly Book magazine - Issue #63, October 1968 - that 300 extras were given invitations.) There were no Beatles in sight, but their equipment was on a small stage and a piano was put up there for Paul. We couldn't see much at first as there were a lot of cameras in the way.
"After the instruments were properly set up, in walked the four of them. I froze on the spot as this was the first time I'd ever been so close to all four of the Beatles at once. The Beatles went to the stage where John and George began tuning their guitars while Paul doodled on the piano. I was busy watching Paul joke around with John.
"John, Paul, George and Ringo then started jamming with hit tunes like 'Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley' and other favorites. It was quite funny. I was able to make my way closer to the stage and happened to overhear George singing to himself, 'I Just Want to Make Love to You' by the Stones. I think he suddenly realized that he could be heard and stopped abruptly.
"A friend from Liverpool was onstage, who was quite drunk, wearing a flower behind each ear. He was cracking jokes and the Beatles laughed along with him until he started asking John embarrassing questions. The friend was completely soused when he turned to John and asked, 'Can I ask you a question?'. John nodded and there was complete silence. The friend continued, 'Did you love your wife?' John immediately came back with 'Not lately'. There was silence again after John answered, then Paul saved the day. Paul began playing the piano and said to John, 'What was your most embarrassing moment?' Everyone laughed and all was okay.
"The director told us we'd be singing the long ending with the Beatles and we practiced it once, with everyone running in to surround the small platform, nearly knocking over huge cameras in the rush. Well, we were told to cool it a bit, don't kill each other, we would all get pretty close to The Beatles without destroying the studio.
"We tried it again and it was less chaotic, although I was frustrated in my attempts to get over to Paul's side of the stage as the largest rush was in that direction. We practiced a few more times, still without filming, and I managed to get either on the stage on George's side or right in front. Of course, when we actually filmed I wasn't able to get as close as my two friends who managed to end up sitting behind George on Ringo's drum stand.
"What you ended up seeing on the actual promo film is the cameras backing away from the Beatles towards the end of the song and suddenly there are people there around them, but behind the scenes it was quite frantic trying to get the spot nearest the stage. It was a friendly competition, though, except one time Ringo nearly got knocked off his stand! Ringo laughed about it. After we'd filmed it once, the Beatles left to view it in their dressing rooms upstairs. At least, I thought they'd all gone out. I turned to watch the film on one of the monitors and there in the middle of the crowd were Ringo and Paul watching also.
"When George and John returned, we tried it again and again and... we actually filmed for five hours till it was exactly what the Beatles wanted. Let me stress that I'm not complaining! If they would've kept us there 50 hours, I wouldn't have minded. I never wanted that night to end. Each time the Beatles came back from viewing the film and decided to do it again, we all cheered!
"The best times were between actual filming when The Beatles would just fool around onstage. David Frost was to have the film on his show and when he mentioned them in the promo spot for the show we all cheered - but we weren't supposed to. So, later on, we found out from Mal, David would be redoing the promo clips with the Beatles there.
"Six of us decided to stay when the filming was finished. Everyone but us got back on the buses to London. It was about 11:30PM by now and we'd been there about six hours. Only The Beatles, Mal, David Frost and studio technicians were left after the buses had gone. It was the closest to being alone with the Beatles I would ever get. Frost's intro was re-done and, while he was talking, I stood alone on the side just watching. George suddenly looked at me from where he was sitting on the little stage and broke into this gigantic grin. One of the girls nearby said, 'Did you see the look he gave her?' I'd met George at his house three days earlier and obviously he'd remembered.
"The Beatles walked out to go to the dressing rooms and we went out with them. I asked Paul if we could all take a picture with him. He said, 'Sure,' and we crowded around him. I had my Instamatic camera which one of my friends grabbed from me and prepared to get a shot of us around Paul. Well, naturally the flash wouldn't go off. Paul took my camera, turned it around in his hands a few times and then said, 'Catch me later'. Paul ran upstairs and we sat outside waiting for them.
"I could see The Beatles in a little kitchen having drinks; Yoko was up there too and some studio girls. After about a half hour, Ringo came out with his chauffeur and said goodnight to us; not far behind him was George who smiled and got into his car. A few minutes later, Paul came downstairs and, as he stepped into the lighted doorway, I snapped his picture. He threw out his arms as if to say, 'Ah, you got me!'
"John and Yoko were right behind him and, as they came out, I got another pic of all three of them. They really looked tired and Paul said the film had come out great, giving me the thumbs-up sign when I asked him about it. They got into their limousine and Paul turned to wave at us out the back window all the way down the road and out of sight.
"That night heralded the end of my 1968 trip as I left two days later. It was surely a gigantic stroke of good luck and timing to have been a part of that historic night. I'll never forget it."
Tumblr media
It would appear Hey Jude was filmed first, as Paul arrived in his red jacket, and he looks to be leaving in that purple t-shirt he wore for Revolution. I think this account and photos might clarify that it’s Paul wearing John’s shirt and not vice versa (I’ve often wondered which it was).

"You're gonna have to make a decision someday, cap," Sam chimed in, reminding Steve of the time crunch.
He only hummed in return, having had about enough of working the whole damn week, what's worse was that he couldn't even spend the weekend with you.
His frown quickly softening and turning into a smile when he saw you come out of his car, "Daddy!" you squealed, jumping up and down in excitement as you ran to him and threw your arms around him.
He was taken aback a bit, stumbling back a few steps but he managed to catch you, burying his nose in your hair as you nuzzled your face in the crook of his neck.
"I missed you so so much!" you sighed, finally happy to be with him.
He tried to set you down to your feet, so he could get a good look at your face, but you refused to stop clinging to him,"How was your trip, princess?" he asked rubbing your back, which was exposed since you were wearing a flimsy backless dress, he didn't know how he felt about that.
"Oh my gosh!" you squealed again, standing ok your feet so you could look up at him, "We had so much fun! I bought so many new pretty things, hot some for you and your friends too," you blinked.
He hummed, pulling you into him and crashing his lips over yours, he had missed you, it had been less than a week and yet it felt like months. He was well aware of Sam, Bucky, Peter and his bodyguards eyes on you, some of them had the decency to avert their gaze while Sam and Bucky smiled and stared as if they were proud parents.
You giggled, your cheeks warm and head dizzy from the kiss as he let you go.
"Yeah, what'd you get us, princess?" Bucky teased.
Steve shot him a look, knowing that he was only joking but that pet name was reserved for him, only he got the privilege to call you that.
"Ooh! I got you some magnets to put on your fridge and a nice shirt."
"Alright, princess, let's get going or we'll be late," he urged you. Not ready to share your attention with his friends, not after having you back in his arms after so long, and dreading the party you were both going to.
"Did she give you any trouble?" he asked Peter. He had sent the boy with you and your friends to Milan to protect you and make sure that you stayed out of trouble.
"Uh... no, sir. But..." he hesitated, he thought of you as a big sister and would never want to rat you out or get you in trouble, but his loyalty lied with the mob boss, "She might've maxed out your platinum card..."
"Don't worry about that..." he chuckled and thanked him for taking care of you.
"Daddy," you whined, squirming against his side, you had been acting antsy ever since you got in the limo, pressing kisses to his neck and his collarbone, pulling at the collar of his dress shirt, "I missed you sooo much..."
"I missed you too, baby. But we need to talk," he propped your chin up so he could look into your beautiful eyes, "You'll need to be careful with the card from now on. You can't just blow money away just because we have a lot of it."
"Bu... but," your eyes tearing up and your bottom lip wobbling, "I thought what was yours was mine. You said so yourself..." you sniffled, trying to keep your tears at bay, he had told you that when he asked you to leave your shitty studio apartment and move into his brownstone in Brooklyn, he let you decorate the place however you liked and let you have access to his accounts so you let yourself think that what was his was truly yours. "My mom was right..."
"Right about what?"
"She told me never to move in with a guy until I'm engaged. I'm just like... a kept woman for you..."
"No...no...no, honey," he sighed, stroking your cheek, "It is yours. Everything that is mine is yours. Even my heart," he said putting your hand over his heart, "my soul, it's all yours. More than it is mine really."
"And... I'm just looking for a ring, baby. You know I'd be an idiot not to give you my name and make you my wife. But we need to be cautious, what if we spend all our money and don't have any in case of an emergency?"
"All right, that makes sense. I'm sorry, daddy, I promise I'll be careful."
"I know you will, baby. You're my good girl right?"
"Yes," you nodded, clenching your thighs together.
"Are you wet, honey?" he smiled.
"Yes," you giggled. "Will you fuck me right now, please?" pulling your doe eyes so he absolutely won't be able to resist you.
"Not in a moving car, honey," he said, pulling on your bottom lip with his thumb before pushing it in your warm mouth, "I want to take my time with you. I haven't had my most favorite meal in days, so I'll have to do that first, for at least an hour, and then you are good and show me that you deserve it, I'll let you ride my cock."
His words sent shivers up your spine, you gulped, you were bound to be sore tonight. But there was still the matter of your needy pussy, and you weren't patient like your daddy.
"Can I at least suck daddy's cock then?" you requested.
He chuckled, "You just never take no for an answer do you, baby," as you shook your head. He unzipped his pants, pulling his hardening cock out of his pants.
"I'll mess up your hair," he said as you got down to your knees, between his legs, "I don't mind. I want my cummies," you excitedly wrapped your hand around his length, wrapping your lips around his tip.
He pushed your head down, making you gag, "We have to hurry, baby, we'll be there soon..." he moaned as he threw his head back.
He kept fucking his cock into your face, trying not to mess with your pretty hair which was your done up, your makeup was already ruined though, "Here it comes, baby," he warned you before releasing in your mouth.
You swallowed all of out, so that you could impress him and show him that you were his good girl, and because you were looking forward to the, hopefully huge, diamond he was going to buy you.

You were never a huge fan of parties like these, bored out of your mind, you couldn't even talk to anyone, Sam and Bucky seem to have wandered off somewhere while Steve was too busy making small talk that would literally put you to sleep.
"I'm bored," you told him for the tenth time, you would've even stomped your feet and thrown a full blown tantrum if you weren't aware of everyone's eyes on you, "And my feet hurt from these heels."
"I told you to wear something sensible, doll," he sighed. "Just an hour or so more and then I'll give you a foot massage, okay?"
You only huffed, four inches were more than sensible, you were going to wear the killer eight inch stilletos you bought in Italy with your friends but didn't knowing he'll scold you for it.
"Whatever," you mumbled.
Walking towards a group of women, who looked like they were mob wives and mob mistresses, you could talk to them to kill time.
'She's such a gold digger, I've heard Rogers has a lot of money.' You stopped in your tracks as you heard one of them say.
'You have to be hot to be a gold digger,' another voice snickered.
"Oh shit, I think she heard us..." she whispered as they both looked at you.
"Hello," you gave them a sweet smile, "were you both talking about me?"
"Yeah..." the blonde girl, Stacey you recalled her name was, "It's only the truth," she shrugged. "Nothing wrong with it, go get that money, girl!" She tried to salvage it but the damage was done.
"I think you're mistaken," you said as you propped your hand on your hip, "I'm not a gold digger. I love Steve and I do like how rich he is, but I'd love him even if he didn't have the money. Is it possible that you were projecting your own Insecurities on me? You're the one who wishes your man would leave his wife for you, not me. I'm going to be Mrs Steve Rogers. So you should watch how you speak about me if you know what's good for you."
She was about to quip back but then you felt his arm around you, "Good evening, ladies," he said to the small group of women, "Mind if I steal my fiance for a second?" he asked.
They all stared dumbfounded as he whisked you away.
"Not gonna lie, I would've loved to rescue you and be your knight," he told you as you both walked towards your limo, ready to end the night. "But I'm still so proud of you. You're my sweet strong girl."
"You'll always be my hero, daddy. No matter what."

Johannes stood in the street, arm stretched out for the next empty cab.
“No one’s stopping,” he said, speaking loudly over the traffic. “Probably get hijacked all the time.”
“Why?” Val asked. “Never mind - let’s just walk.”
“We won’t catch up,” Johannes said. “Oy, taxi,” he hollered.
He waved his arm at a cab, which only sped up as it approached them, careening through a yellow light before wildly changing lanes. A second later, a cloud of paper money settled on the street. Johannes snatched a bill out of the air to take a look - it was New Jersey money, a fifty franc note printed with the glaring face of the mobster who ran the Newark port.
“Unbelievable,” Johannes said. He gestured for Val to follow him up the street, toward the next intersection. “You know, villains used to respect the common New Yorker. You didn’t hijack a cab, you hijacked the mayor’s limo and dangled his wife over the Brooklyn Bridge.”
His palms were sweaty - he hardly knew what dumbass thing he was saying now, but talking was essential to distract Val from thinking too hard about being kissed.
“Is that so,” Val deadpanned.
Johannes jogged to reach the intersection just as the light turned red. He weaved around a delivery truck and into the middle lane, Val close on his heels. There was another cab stopped there - the off duty light came on as Johannes met the nervous eyes of the cab driver in the rear view mirror.
He opened the door to the backseat.
“Val, after you,” Johannes said. Then, to the driver, “You must not have seen us. Johannes Madsen, Villanelle’s kid.”
Val gave him a withering look as he climbed into the cab. Johannes followed and pulled the door closed behind them. Johannes immediately leaned up between the driver and passenger seats, arms slung around them.
“This is kind of an odd request,” Johannes said saccharinely. “But we need you to chase somebody for us. They just went this way, but they’re getting away, so really step on it.”
“We’re not going to hurt you,” Val added, his annoyed tone very clearly intended for Johannes.
“Yeah, I’m not doing that,” the driver muttered. He threw open the driver’s side door and ditched, leaving the door hanging open. The light had changed, and other cars took up honking.
“Guess I’ll drive,” Johannes said. He maneuvered himself easily from the backseat to the driver’s side, pulled the door closed, and stepped on the gas.
“I don’t know why we’re doing this,” Val protested. “We already lost him.”
Johannes tsked, grinning at Val in the mirror. “Oh, sure - but we know exactly where he’s going. He’s going to turn around for the cab full of money, because he’s a sucker.”
Val yelped as Johannes ran a red light, shooting the gap just in time to avoid being clobbered by a produce truck.
“Of course, that means we have to catch up with those meshugenahs, so,” Johannes said with a wink.
Val clutched the grab handle. "Mm-hm," he said.
"Haha - see?" Johannes crowed as the Aviator came into view. They’d just caught up with the hijacked cab when the vigilante swung out over the street on a rope, then dropped on top of a bus as it pulled up alongside the cab he and Val were chasing.
"Yep," Val said, his grip tightening on the grab handle.
Johannes let some distance grow between his stolen cab and the cab the Aviator was after. The Aviator jumped from the roof of the bus to the roof of the cab, prompting the villain driving to swerve between lanes.
The Aviator wobbled, but ultimately regained his balance. He hooked something into the driver’s side door, then threw a line around a lamppost as they passed - seconds later, the line tightened and the door flew off into the street, causing an uproar of honking cars. Johannes joined in, pounding the horn. He was feeling a bit like an out of control cab himself - a small voice was telling him to rein it in before Val slapped him.
The Aviator slipped inside the other cab and tossed the villain driving into the road after the blown-off door. He then signaled a right turn and parked the cab in the bus lane. Johannes put on his hazards to sit and watch, cursing drivers maneuvering around him on both sides.
The Aviator went back for the driver, scooping him out of the road and tying him back to back with another villain the Aviator proceeded to pull from the passenger seat. He left them next to a parking meter before breaking into a sprint - back towards the bar where they’d started the chase.
"Shit," Johannes said. He made a 3-point turn in the middle of the road while Val said something Catholic under his breath and every driver on the road leaned on their horn. Johannes followed the Aviator, only catching the occasional glimpse of him as the vigilante kept mostly to the alleys that ran parallel to the main street. They were a few blocks past the villain bar when Johannes had to admit he'd lost him.
Val sat up suddenly in his seat.
"Turn around," he said. “Go back to the bar.”
Johannes gave him a look, but turned the car around again.
"Okay, here we are," Johannes said, bringing the cab to a stop in front of the alley next to the bar. He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, looking at Val expectantly.
"The Aviator is inside. He’s the bartender." Val shot Johannes a shit-eating grin, clearly very happy with himself. "And he's late coming back from his smoke break."
Johannes couldn't remember what the bartender had looked like - but under the Aviator's mask and goggles, sure, he could have been anybody, why not the bartender in a villain bar.
"We wait here, then follow the bartender home," Val said.
Johannes watched Val closely, especially interested in the smile that wouldn't leave his face. He was in a pretty good mood all of a sudden.
"Okay," Johannes said, carefully fixing his face to a neutral expression. "Sounds good."
“There he is.”
Johannes squinted out the window. It was getting dark. They’d been sitting in the cab, mostly in silence, for the last hour. Val’s excitement had quickly dissipated into nervous energy, which Val had expressed by giving short answers to Johannes’s prompts for conversation and staring intensely at the door to the bar.
“That’s him?” Johannes asked.
“Follow, drive,” Val said, waving his hands in a come on already motion that Johannes was pretty sure Val had picked up from him.
Johannes followed the bartender in the cab; the stop and start of rush hour traffic meant mirroring the bartender’s leisurely pace was no issue.
“I don’t think that’s the Aviator,” Johannes said. “Look - the bartender has a chest.”
“Hair’s the same,” Val said.
The bartender did have the same color and length hair as the guy who’d had him and Val tied up upside down. Johannes watched the bartender turn off the main drag. He swore and bullied his way into the turn lane to follow. Another couple of blocks, and Johannes found himself parked outside a hole in the wall pizza joint as the bartender walked inside.
“Fuck, I want pizza,” Johannes muttered under his breath. He sighed. “Val - ”
“It’s him,” Val huffed. “What’s pizza?”
Johannes tracked the bartender’s movements through the window of the pizza place. The guy was just waiting in line.
“Did you just say what’s pizza?” Johannes said. “Have you never had pizza?”
Val waved for him to be quiet. Johannes was reeling.
“We’re not leaving the city without getting you a slice. My number one childhood memory of New York is sitting in a place just like this, surrounded by my dad’s goons while he and Mame argued on the other side of the room.”
“That sounds horrible,” Val said.
Johannes shrugged. The bartender was leaving with a box of pizza.
He paused in front of the cab, meeting Johannes’s eyes through the windshield. Johannes couldn’t see the resemblance - the bartender was dressed like an ordinary woman coming off work. Val was right about the hair, but the two pictures just weren’t coming together.
After a second of eye contact, the bartender took off at a sprint. Johannes started the car, but Val was already climbing out of the back seat. Johannes watched Val run after the bartender, then yanked the keys out of the ignition and took off after him.
The Aviator must have thought he’d lost them, because after running four blocks through back alleys, taking turns seemingly at random, he finally entered an apartment building. Johannes held Val back from following the bartender through the front door - confronting him before they found Friday was a good way to end up tied up again.
Instead, Johannes pulled down the ladder of the fire escape.
Val threw himself up the escape, looking in every window. Johannes followed close behind - he knew they’d found the Aviator when Val stopped in front of one of the windows, hands up against the glass. Johannes joined him.
It was a shock to see Friday completely unscathed after what had happened this morning. She was standing in front of an open closet, wearing a glittery leotard, because of course she had managed to find herself a glittery leotard in the Aviator’s apartment - why not? She was still digging through the closet when the apartment door opened and the bartender walked in, tossing his keys and the pizza down on the kitchen counter.
Val was glued to the glass as he watched Friday and the Aviator move through the apartment - Johannes could feel the relief radiating off him. Johannes was almost jealous of the way he was looking at Friday like the dead had come to life.
“I’m thinking you stay here, I go around and knock on the door, we cover the exits and maybe you grab Friday while the Aviator kicks my teeth in.” Johannes paused. “Val?”
Inside the apartment, Friday was sitting on the kitchen counter next to the now open box of pizza. She had just gotten herself a slice - she was still holding it over the box as the Aviator stepped between her legs and kissed her.
