The Bob Dole Test / The Bob Test / The Dole Test
Inspired by the Vito Russo test, I wanted to create a set of criteria or "litmus test" that highlights the underrepresentation of men's mental health in film.
This can also be seen as a bechdel test for men's mental health / bechdel test for mens mental health / men's mental health bechdel test / mens mental health bechdel test.
For context, this test is named after senator Bob Dole, the man who introduced June's Men's Mental Health Month in 1994.
The rules are listed below:
1. Features at least two man characters / Features at least two men characters / Features at least two male characters.
2. When in conversation, they aren't confined to the roles of toxic masculinity. Male vulnerability isn't dismissed.
3. Story overall sets a "positive masculinity" example for male viewers.
