Note Lines On The Screen Blurred Screen Abnormal Display Gray Screen Odd Colors On The Screen Lines On The Screen Do the stripes only appear on one of the screens? Access the device's settings and change the resolution to match the TV's. The TV handbook will tell you what resolution your set can handle. It's likely your signal or decoder is faulty if just some shows are striped.
Blurred Screen A high-definition LCD TV's hazy picture is usually caused by a resolution mismatch between the TV and connected devices like a DVD player or satellite TV receiver.
Abnormal Display If this only happens while viewing YouTube, Netflix, or Amazon Prime, it might be internet speed. Streaming video app picture quality/resolution adjusts to internet speed.
Gray Screen This happens when the connected device has a weak signal or a poor quality signal. In this case, you'll need to make sure the linked gadget is working properly. Also, you may try replacing the cable to see if the issue is cable-related.
Odd Colors On The Screen A TV with improperly adjusted built-in color settings may produce pictures with colors of an unusual hue, as well as colors that are too saturated and muddy.

Samsung Says Solid Chip Sales Helped Cushion Blow From Falling Smartphone, TV Figures

Samsung Says Solid Chip Sales Helped Cushion Blow From Falling Smartphone, TV Figures
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday its first-quarter operating profit likely managed to rise slightly from a slump a year earlier, as solid chip sales helped cushion the blow from the coronavirus pandemic on smartphones and TVs.
The global leader in semiconductors is benefiting from higher demand for chips from laptop makers and data centres amid the coronavirus-driven shift to working from home.
But at the same time the South Korean tech giant is also expecting a bigger hit to its mobile and consumer electronics sales in the current quarter as the novel coronavirus sweeps through Europe and the United States – key markets for its premium smartphones and TVs.
Samsung said operating profit was expected to be KRW 6.4 trillion ($5.2 billion) in the quarter ended March, compared with KRW 6.2 trillion a year ago and the KRW 6.2 trillion estimate from analysts according to Refinitiv SmartEstimate.
Revenue likely rose 5 percent to 55 trillion won from a year ago, in line with the 55.6 trillion won estimate.
Samsung Electronics shares were up 1.6 percent in morning trade, compared to a 1.3 percent rise of the broader market.
The maker of smartphones, TVs, appliances, memory chips and displays is the first global tech company to report its January-to-March quarter earnings estimates.
Samsung Electronics said in March the coronavirus pandemic would hurt sales of smartphones and consumer electronics this year, while demand from data centres would fuel a recovery in memory chip markets.
The first-quarter results are smaller than Samsung’s internal forecast from early March, and the company is expecting a bigger hit from the virus in the second quarter, a person familiar with Samsung’s operations said.
“Even though Samsung’s mobile business was hit by the coronavirus outbreak this quarter, it will likely face bigger challenges in the second quarter – now that the United States and Europe have become the hardest-hit countries,” Kim Sun-woo, an analyst at Meritz Securities, said.
Hana Financial Investment recently cut its forecast for Samsung’s smartphone shipments to 260 million, from an initial forecast of 300 million because of slower demand for its high-end smartphones, which will also erode its mobile margins.
Taiwan’s Foxconn, a key supplier of Apple Inc’s products, said on Monday that its January-March revenue declined 12 percent from the previous year, after Apple warned it was unlikely to meet its March-quarter sales guidance.
When the outbreak first started in China last year, Samsung’s strategy of spreading out its production base to countries including Vietnam and India seemed to pay off as supply disruptions in China hit rivals such as Apple.
But as the virus spread across the globe, Samsung too has had to close factories and retail stores in Europe, India and the United States.
Chip buffer The company did not provide a breakdown on expected earnings for each division in its guidance released on Tuesday.
Analysts say the company’s memory chip business, which generated more than 50 percent of its operating profit in 2019, would likely report better-than-expected results in the first quarter.
Memory chip prices are rising as work-from-home requirements boost demand from the data centres that support Internet services such as streaming and cloud computing, analysts have said.
Prices for DRAM memory chips are up more than 3.5 percent since January, according to industry tracker DRAMeXchange.
Many analysts had expected Samsung to rebound strongly from its worst operating profit in four years in 2019, but the pandemic has forced some to lower their earnings estimates for this year due to pressure on smartphone sales.
A more prolonged coronavirus crisis could also spill over into the chip sector, analysts say.

A budget guide to Glasgow, Scotland
While Edinburgh may woo visitors with its genteel charm, and there’s no escaping the sheer beauty of the Scottish countryside, visitors to Scotland too often overlook Glasgow as a destination.
Scotland’s largest city has plenty to offer the budget traveler, whether it’s tremendous free museums or the city’s renowned social life. It’s a working city full of contrasts, by turns gritty, glamorous and generous – and one well worth getting to know a little better.
Here’s how to enjoy this great city while saving along the way.
Budget Guide to Glasgow
How to get to Glasgow
Air Glasgow’s International Airport handles most of the flights and is well served by the budget airlines such as easyJet and Ryanair (with a £10.50 shuttle bus into the center of town). If you’re traveling within Europe, check out Ryanair flights from Prestwick Airport too. Slightly farther out, but it’s an easy and inexpensive journey into the city by bus.
Train Traveling within the UK? Getting to Glasgow by train is probably the most convenient option: Make sure to book your journey well in advance for the best fares, or consider buying a BritRail pass before you go if you’re planning to do a lot of travel. Edinburgh is also just over an hour away by train. There are regular departures and tickets cost around £10-13.
Bus Getting the bus is by far the cheapest option — although going by bus from London, for example, will take at least double the time than the train. Check out the MegaBus and National Express for prices starting at around £15 going all the way from London to Glasgow (book well in advance) and just £3.50 from Edinburgh.
What to see and do
There are plenty of tours that will help you get your head around the city’s rich history, although many, unfortunately, will leave your budget a little poorer. However, there are some great free downloadable options to be explored here, with self-guided walks covering everything from an “obscure history guide” to a tour celebrating Glasgow’s musical heritage.
Your reward for climbing the stairs of the Lighthouse? A grand view over Glasgow. Photo: Alastair Bennett
Mackintosh, with a great view
The works of architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh are among Glasgow’s main attractions (you can read more about it in our Glasgow Art Nouveau guide), but many of the Mackintosh attractions do charge admission.
A happy exception is the Lighthouse building, which was Mackintosh’s first architectural commission. It now hosts displays and exhibitions, including one about Mackintosh himself. For an added free bonus, climb its spiral staircase to the top of the tower for a fantastic view over the city.
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery is one of the most visited museums in the country. Photo: Gordon Chirgwin
Free galleries and museums
There’s an amazing array of free museums and galleries in Glasgow, which often comes in handy in a city not blessed with the sunniest of weather! This is just a taster of what’s on offer:
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is one of most visited museums in the country, with a collection that caters to all tastes, and encompasses everything from Salvador Dali to Spitfire planes, stuffed animals and armor.
The Hunterian, part of the University of Glasgow, is the oldest museum in Scotland. Head here for its archaeological and ethnographical displays.
The People’s Palace offers an excellent overview of the social history of the city, while the Gallery of Modern Art does exactly what it says it does. Take note of the statue of the Duke of Wellington outside and his alternative headwear: It’s actually a proud Glasgow tradition that he wears a traffic cone!

Parks
Glasgow is blessed with lots of parks, perfect for relaxing. Pollok Country Park in the south of Glasgow is the city’s largest green space. It’s also the site of another excellent free museum, the Burrell Collection. Housed in a distinctive 1970’s-era building, this gallery includes medieval and Gothic art, Chinese ceramics and masterpieces by the likes of Degas, Manet and Rembrandt.
You’ll find the Botanical Gardens in the west end of the city. Established in 1817, it’s home to many rare and valuable plants, as well as being a lovely place to escape the bustle of the city. Don’t miss the magnificent Kibble Palace glasshouse.
Glasgow Cathedral
The building of this impressive cathedral was begun in the late 12th century, making it intrinsically linked to the history of the city. It’s still in use for Christian services today and is open for free visits.
Adjacent is the imposing Victorian Necropolis. More than 50,000 people are buried here, and although you may not have heard of its most famous “residents”, it’s still well worth a look. Take one of the free guided walks to find out more about its fascinating stories.
The Horse Shoe is a classic with a gigantic bar and plenty of Scottish ale. Photo: Adam B.
Affordable restaurants and bars
You are spoiled for choice for both eating and drinking in the city. Often you don’t have to decide between the two activities, as many bars and pubs also serve tasty and reasonably priced food. It’s also definitely worth seeking out a traditional fish and chip shop (although whether you want to test out the Scottish habit of deep-frying everything is up to you) — let your nose guide you to the best!
Bread Meats Bread
One for the carnivores. This no-bookings restaurant attracts rave reviews for its burgers. Prices start at £6.50 for a classic Scottish beef burger, but there are many variations on offer. See how Scotland tackles North American classics such as Poutine, hot dogs and pulled pork. Tempting extras include caramelized sweet fries.
Stereo
To atone for all that meat, pay a visit to this vegan restaurant, which — in true Glasgow style — also doubles as a late-night bar, gig and club venue. The food is reasonably priced but especially worth checking out on a Monday when you can indulge in five tapas dishes for £12. Like this? The 13th Note is another vegetarian (and arty!) option to consider.
Saramago
Another late night license bar/veggie restaurant in yet another great free gallery. It’s housed in the Centre for Contemporary Arts, a venue specializing in film, music, literature, and spoken word. A particular bargain is the theater menu, served between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., where a three-course meal is priced at £12.95. At other times, expect to pay around £10 for a generous main.
The Horse Shoe Bar
More of a traditional pub, this is named for the shape of its bar – all 104 feet and three inches of it! Its dark wood and antique-tiled interior (topped with an ornate ceiling!) gives a taste of what drinking in Glasgow was like in the past. It’s far from being a museum piece however: you’ll be drinking from its great range of Scottish drinks alongside sports on the TV and the pub’s legendary karaoke sessions!

Where to Stay
Like most of the UK, it can be hard to find super cheap accommodations, but Glasgow does offer a few budget gems in good locations.
If you want to be in the heart of the city center on the main shopping streets, the Alexander Thomson Hotel is just a few feet from the Central Rail Station and offers rooms for under $100.
Sandyford provides a full Scottish breakfast (eggs, meat, mushrooms, beans, the whole deal) and is within easy reach of good shops, museums and galleries.
The family-run Argyll Hotel is close to Kelvingrove Museum and rooms are equipped with private bathrooms and free Wi-Fi.
For more options, search over 145 Glasgow hotels.

Christmas Traditions To Enjoy with Your Family
Christmas in my family is rich with tradition. Although we always think we would like to do a few things differently each year, we usually fall back into family-honoured holiday traditions. Adhering to Christmas traditions might be one way that we help remember those family members we have lost. My father, who passed several years ago, loved celebrating Christmas so many of our traditions are rooted in holiday activities that he initiated within our family.
Holiday Traditions Before Christmas
The Santa Claus Parade route travels along University Avenue in Toronto, photo By Vie Vie – Santa Claus Parade uploaded by Skeezix1000, CC BY 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=8470653

Santa Claus Parade
Growing up, we always went to watch the Santa Claus Parade downtown. This glorious parade features holiday floats, marching bands, kids dressed up as candy canes and snowflakes and Santa Claus and now, Mrs. Claus. It’s been a few years since I have attended the parade, but it’s just as fun to see as an adult as it was when I was a kid.
Holiday Decorations
In my mind, December 1 is the official start of the holiday season so that’s when I decorate our home. I have Christmas cushions and throws for our couch, reindeer stocking holders and Santa ornaments for our mantle and Christmas wreaths and garlands for the living room, hall and kitchen. I also have a mini Christmas tree that I decorate with mini strings of white lights that I bought on Amazon and I have wrapped these strings of lights on our bookcases and armoires. They provide a little holiday sparkle before the Christmas tree actually gets put up.
White Chocolate Cranberry Bars are easy to make.
Holiday Baking
I like getting my holiday baking done a few weeks before Christmas and then putting it in the freezer. I used to bake three or four types of holiday cookies, but now I find I have time only to bake one or two. I love making shortbread and if I have time, I will make the cookie cutter type vs. the pan shortbread. I also like making a bar cookie as they are usually easier. Here are some great bar cookies to make this Christmas.
Christmas Cards
Although many people have stopped sending Christmas cards opting for e-cards instead, I still like to send actual Christmas cards to my family and a select group of friends. I love receiving cards in the mail leading up to Christmas and displaying them on a ribbon in our living room. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
St. Michael’s Choir Concert
For the past six years, my mother and I have been attending St. Michael’s Choir Christmas Concert at Massey Hall (although it’s temporarily at Roy Thomson Hall while Massey Hall is being refurbished). Our home was filled with Christmas music when I was growing up because my mother, my sister and I all played piano, my uncle was an organist and my grandmother sang in the church choir. That’s why Christmas choral music is one of the most important family Christmas traditions for me. It helps put the holiday in perspective for me.
Huge Christmas tree at the Toronto Christmas Market in the Distillery District
Toronto Christmas Market
Since the Toronto Christmas Market opened about seven years ago, we have tried to visit every year. This market, which takes place at Toronto’s historic Distillery District, is a recreation of an old-fashioned European Christmas Market. The market features roaming carollers, choirs and a village of vendors selling crafts and gourmet foods. The highlight is the 50-foot Balsam Fir Christmas tree in the centre of the square.
Decorating our Christmas tree with decorations that have been handed down is one of our family Christmas traditions.
Real Christmas Tree
One of my favourite family Christmas traditions is getting a real Christmas tree. I love the smell and the way the tree looks in our living room. So we will go and pick it out at Home Depot around December 12 (we used to go up north and cut one down, but that activity takes a lot of planning). I have Christmas tree decorations that have been handed down from both of my grandmothers, as well as tree decorations from our Christmas tree when I was growing up. I also have tree decorations made by my sister and nieces when they were younger, as well as decorations that were given to me by family and friends. I cherish all of these decorations and look forward to decorating our tree with them. Because of these decorations, our Christmas tree truly is a family tree.
Christmas Eve Traditions
Christmas Eve Day
Christmas Eve Day is usually spent wrapping stocking presents and prepping the ingredients for my dish for Christmas Day dinner. I make sure all of my shopping has been done before December 24 so that I don’t have to rush out during the last minute madness! My brother or sister might come over to exchange gifts if that hasn’t been done already. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Christmas Eve Dinner
We usually prepare a light meal of salmon or shrimp for Christmas Eve dinner. Knowing that we will be enjoying a full turkey dinner on Christmas Day, it seems like a good idea to eat a bit lighter on Christmas Eve.
Christmas Eve Church
On Christmas Eve, we try and plan to attend a Christmas Eve church service, but this doesn’t always come to pass. Sometimes, my stepmother will host a Christmas Eve dinner at her place and it’s not always possible to attend Christmas Eve church, as well as her dinner. And sometimes by the time Christmas Eve comes around, we just want to relax and make sure we are energized for Christmas Day.
A Christmas Carol
After church or dinner, I always watch A Christmas Carol on TV because it always puts me in the Christmas mood. The version I like best is the 1951 version starring Alastair Sim as Scrooge. He is magnificent in the role.
Christmas Day Traditions
Christmas Morning
Like many families, we open our Christmas stockings on Christmas morning although we do have coffee and breakfast first before diving into our stockings. We then open our Christmas presents and at noon, we always watch Queen Elizabeth II deliver her annual speech on TV.
Christmas Dinner
Since we usually have Christmas dinner at my brother’s place, I always bring a dish such as Roasted Brussels Sprouts or Butternut Squash. I usually start preparing the recipe during the day on Christmas Eve so I don’t have that much work to do on Christmas Day. We usually go to my brother’s place for Christmas dinner around 4:30 p.m., enjoy drinks and appetizers while sitting by the Christmas tree and seeing what my nieces got for Christmas, then have a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings at around 6:30 p.m. We always begin dinner by snapping open the Christmas crackers, reading the corny jokes, comparing prizes and wearing the crackers’ paper hats.
Boxing Day Traditions
Visit My Sister and Her Family
On Boxing Day, we always visit my sister and her family who live an hour north of Toronto. My sister always celebrates Christmas Day with her husband’s family so Boxing Day is the only chance for me to see my sister as close to Christmas Day as possible. We usually arrive in the early afternoon and share our Christmas Day experiences with each other. My sister will prepare a casual meal of appetizers, veggies, and cheeses, which we enjoy with a glass of wine, coffee or mocktail. We have been visiting my sister and her family on Boxing Day for the past 16 years. The only year we missed visiting her was when they went to Australia for Christmas and we had to reschedule our get-together to December 31.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. What family Christmas traditions do you cherish?

Netflix teases 'fitting end' to defining series 'House of Cards'
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=24402 Netflix teases 'fitting end' to defining series 'House of Cards' - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=24402 BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (Reuters) - A Netflix Inc executive promised on Sunday a “fitting end” to the streaming service’s acclaimed political drama “House of Cards” but did not divulge how the series wrote out scandal-tainted star Kevin Spacey. Cast member Robin Wright poses at the premiere for the second season of the television series "House of Cards" at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles, California February 13, 2014. Season 2 premieres on Netflix on February 14. REUTERS/Mario Anzuoni (UNITED STATES - Tags: ENTERTAINMENT) - GM1EA2E16QJ01“House of Cards” put Netflix on the map as a home for original entertainment when the series debuted in 2013 starring Spacey as conniving politician Frank Underwood. The show’s coming sendoff centres on Robin Wright, who plays Frank’s devious wife, Claire. “We’re really proud of the show, and it’s a fitting end,” Cindy Holland, vice president of original series at Netflix, said in response to questions at a Television Critics Association event where networks promoted upcoming shows. “We always planned for season six to be the final season, and we are proud of the work of Robin” and the rest of the cast and crew, she added. The company has not yet set a release date. “House of Cards” upended television when Netflix released the first season’s episodes all at once to encourage online “binge viewing.” The show earned widespread critical praise. REUTERS/Mike Blake/File PhotoIn November 2017, Netflix quickly cut ties with Spacey after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced. Spacey has been accused by more than 20 men and has said nothing publicly about the allegations since an apology to the first accuser in October 2017. Five years after Netflix’s gamble with “House of Cards,” the company plans to release about 700 original TV series, movies and other types of programming around the world this year. The sheer volume has led to questions about whether Netflix can keep churning out programming with a high level of quality. “Quality and quantity are not mutually exclusive,” Holland said. “We are maintaining quality as we grow by hiring brilliant talent who are passionate about the stories they want to tell and giving them creative space.” She also addressed complaints from some producers that their work can get lost in the flood of Netflix programming. Netflix devises a marketing plan for each show and is one of the biggest online advertisers in the world, Holland said. She added that the best way to reach viewers was by Netflix’s promotion of the shows when people turn on the service. The company reported it had 130 million subscribers at the end of June. “That is by far the most powerful promotional vehicle we have,” she said. “I’m confident we are doing justice to our programming.” Reporting by Lisa Richwine; Editing by Peter CooneyOur Standards:The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.
