Mu Qing: spends 800 years following the ascetic cultivation path he committed to at age 17, never once struggling with sticking to his vows (other than the feng xin thirst of course)
Hualian: doing their thing, right in front of his salad
Mu Qing: ..what vows? Time to get shitfaced 🙄

Do you ever think about how Jun Wu had dirt on literally every heavenly official, but Mu Qing had done nothing wrong ever in his life to the point that Jun Wu had to use one of his good deeds against him to slander him?!

Imagine that on April 1st, Prince Xie Lian liked to play pranks on everyone. His mother always came to the brink of collapse, his father exploded in anger and Feng Xin ALWAYS collapsed but ALWAYS ended up laughing when he discovered the meaning of Xie Lian's antics.
Mu Qing was the only one who stopped falling after the first prank, so Xie Lian called him to help play pranks on his guoshi and his fellow disciples, something that Mu Qing did with gusto and even had the most creative plans to make them all hell, and Xie Lian accepted almost all the ideas with great enthusiasm.
Thus, Xie Lian and Mu Qing created a reputation that they were keen to keep intact and even reinforce.
In the post-canon, Xie Lian asks Mu Qing to do April Fools pranks with him, Mu Qing at first hesitates, grumpily, but it doesn't take much coaxing to convince him.
He would never admit it, but he missed these games.
It's still the 31st here lol
