The Illuminated Alphabet by Timothy Noad published in 1994. This book has a lot of examples of calligraphy styles and illuminated initials, among which are the famous B and S from the title page, which he shows step by step how to make.

Since both of these illuminated letters appear one after another in this book, I think it's safe to say the artist who created the title page had this book in her possession, and was most probably looking at it while making the page.

About Great Britain Royal Arms Silver BU Coin

            This magnificent design is presented on 1 oz of .999 pure Silver.  The obverse of the coin displays Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is shown against a guilloché pattern from the Royal Mint, and the reverse of the coin features Timothy Noad's exquisitely detailed rendition of the Royal Arms in a strikingly innovative perspective, the weight and purity of the coin as well as the date of issue are also included.

Short History

             On this bullion piece, coin designer Timothy Noad has reimagined the famous royal arms design by Eric Sewell. Three passant guardant lions of England are displayed in the first and fourth quadrants of the royal arms quartered shield, while Scotland is represented by the rampant lion and double tressure flory-counterflory in the second. Ireland's harp is featured in the third. The Scottish unicorn and the crowned English lion both hold up a portion of the shield, which is encircled by a Garter circlet bearing the inscription "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE" (shame on he who thinks evil on it). The Welsh leek is also included.

       The royal arms have been a common feature on British coinage for centuries and stand for the grandeur and power of the British monarchy. The royal standard, a banner bearing the royal arms, is also flown from the royal residences when the monarch is at home. The royal arms are still used today as a symbol of authority and identification.
