Installing EV charging circuit. Tell me I'm not being stupid

Alright, /r/homeimprovement, I’m hoping you all can tell me 1: I’m not being stupid and 2: I shouldn’t burn my house down with the following project. Long story short, we’re taking possession of an EV in a few weeks and one of my tasks is to add a circuit to the garage for charging.

My original plan was to add a 240v/50amp NEMA 14-50 outlet, however after a bit of research I’ve concluded the following:

I only have 1 space available in the panel

The panel’s total number of poles is 20, given that I have 19 currently I can’t utilize a tandem to free up another slot for 240v

So the 240v level 2 charging is out the window. After retooling, I decided I can add a 120v/30amp circuit with a NEMA TT-30 to charge at 120v/24amps.

So I’ve gone out and purchased the following:

A Square D Schneider Electric HOM130CP Homeline 30 amp single pole breaker

Leviton 7313-S00 30 amp 125v NEMA TT-30r receptacle

Double gang box

Decora cover

Still need to purchase: 8-10ft of romex 10ga 10/2 wire.

Does anyone (HD or lowes) sell by the foot? I dont need a 25ft spool of 10ga lying around. The vertical run will be longer than the horizontal run. The actual outlet will only be 3ish feet from the panel itself but about 20” off the floor.

My breaker panel is mounted on an exterior wall near the front of our house directly in front of where the garage roll up door is. It’s hard to explain but our front entry way juts out a few feet from the rest of the house, but it should be a pretty straight shot from the panel to the area in the garage I am going to mount the receptacle, the garage is unfinished and I will be removing drywall from the garage side rather than inside the entry way.

My plan is:

Remove a few foot square segment of drywall as close as possible to the panel box (opposite side of the wall from the panel)

Mount the box to the most appropriate stud available

Drill through the center of any studs between the receptacle and the panel (should be a max of 2 depending on how things look inside the wall, I may luck out and not need to drill any, I haven’t investigated where they are positioned yet). Staple the vertical runs.

Cut mains power

Pull enough wire to reach the breaker spot, neutral and ground busses

Wire the outlet

Wire the breaker

Apply mains

Hope?

If still alive and unburnt – repair drywall in garage

My questions to you all:

Am I missing anything? Am I being retarded somewhere in here?

IS that the correct breaker? The panel is a Square D by Schneider, HOMC20UC. The breaker is a Square D by Schneider HOM130CP

Can anyone see a better way than what I’ve thought of?

Am I NEC 2014 compliant?

My history: I would rate myself above “handy” I’ve set floor and wall tiles, done drywall work, wired the house for cat6 ethernet, sistered joists; many of the usual things we do around here in home improvement. I’m “comfortable” with electricity, I am an IT manager by trade, I can solder with the best of the best, and I have run literal miles of low voltage data cable in my time. I have all of the tools I believe I would need including: a couple nice fluke multi meters, a non-contact tester, a regular outlet (5-15/5-20) tester along with the standard hand and power tools to do the deed. I have changed out many electrical outlets in my time, have wired all manner of light fixtures, switches/timers, and other BS previously BUT I have never been the one to wire the breakers. That’s always been my pop’s job, but with Covid and all I’m not wanting to bring him in unless I really need another pair of hands.

Am I being stupid? Appreciate all of the feedback!
