What’s next?

Der Herbst hält Einzug. Was sage ich; schon eher der Winter. Ich sage dazu nur, dass ich die Kälte nicht vermisst habe. Unsere Saison ist mit einer krachenden 5:0 Niederlage gegen Purdue Northwest im Viertelfinale der Playoffs verloren gegangen. Das war gleichzeitig auch die höchste Niederlage der Saison. Aber rückblickend muss man sagen, dass wir mit 10 Siegen, 6 Niederlagen und einem Unentschieden den Turnaround geschafft haben und eine sehr stabile Saison abgeliefert haben. Mit dem Ende der Saison folgt immer auch die Ungewissheit. Spieler beenden ihr Studium und verlassen noch dieses oder kommendes Jahr, vor Beginn der neuen Saison die Mannschaft. Andere Spieler entscheiden sich auf das Transferportal zu gehen und nach einer anderen Universität und Mannschaft Ausschau zu halten. Es ist ehrlich gesagt ein komisches Gefühl, dass man nicht weis, mit wem man kommende Saison in der Umkleide sitzt. Aber so ist das College Business in der USA. Hier geht es wenig um Persönlichkeiten, sondern oftmals einfach nur um das Geschäft.

Und was ist eigentlich mit mir? Die Saison ist vorbei. Meine letzte College Saison. Ich hätte gerne mehr gespielt. Aber das lässt sich nicht mehr ändern. Meinen Abschluss habe ich im März oder Mai in der Tasche und der wird exzellent ausfallen. Zumindest im akademischen Bereich habe ich zu hundert Prozent überzeugt. Wohin mich das im Anschluss führt? Gute Frage. Ich würde schon gerne weiter Fußball spielen. Aber wo? Und wie realistisch ist das? In welches Land möchte ich eigentlich? Noch ein weiteres Jahr am College? Fragen über Fragen. Aber ich bin mir sicher, dass ich meine Antworten dazu finde und auch nach der USA ein weiteres spannendes Kapitel auf mich wartet.

Ansonsten vertreibe ich mir die Zeit mit Arbeiten. Entweder findet man mich im IT Helpdesk, als Barkeeper in einer lokalen Bar, oder in der Aufnahmezentrale Highlights schneiden, während unsere Basketballmannschaft auf Körbejagt geht. Mexico über Silvester, Minnesota über Thanksgiving. Hockey wurde vorgezogen. Wir haben vergangenen Donnerstag Minnesota Wild vs. Dallas Stars verfolgt. Minnesota hat mit 7:2 gewonnen. Mit Nico Sturm spielt dort auch ein Deutscher. Sehr kurzweiliger Sport. Empfehlenswert. Ticket und Busfahrt lagen bei 10 Dollar, da es über die Universität organisiert war. Dafür waren die Getränke sündhaft teuer. Weit über 10 Dollar, absolut lachhaft. Aber so ist das eben im Sportbusiness hier.

Autumn is coming. What do I say; rather the winter. I'll just say that I haven't missed the cold. Our season went down to the wire with a resounding 5-0 loss to Purdue Northwest in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. That was also the biggest loss of the season. But looking back, we have to say that we turned it around with 10 wins, 6 losses and a tie and delivered a very solid season. With the end of the season always comes uncertainty. Players finish their studies and leave the team this year or next year, before the start of the new season. Other players decide to go on the transfer portal and look for another university and team. It's honestly a weird feeling not knowing who you'll be sitting in the locker room with next season. But that's college business in the United States. Here, it's not much about personalities, but often just about business.

And what about me? The season is over. My last college season. I would have liked to play more. But that can no longer be changed. I'll graduate in March or May and it will be excellent. At least in the academic area, I've been one hundred percent convincing. Where will that lead me afterwards? That's a good question. I would like to continue playing soccer. But where? And how realistic is that? What country would I actually like to go to? Another year of college? Questions upon questions. But I'm sure I'll find my answers and another exciting chapter awaits me after the USA.

Otherwise, I pass the time by working. You can either find me at the IT helpdesk, bartending at a local bar, or editing highlights in the recording center while our basketball team is out shooting hoops. Mexico over New Year's Eve, Minnesota over Thanksgiving. Ice hockey was moved up. We watched Minnesota Wild vs. Dallas Stars last Thursday. Minnesota won 7-2. With Nico Sturm there is also a German playing. Very entertaining sport. Recommendable. Ticket and bus ride were $10 because it was organized through the university. But the drinks were sinfully expensive. Far more than 10 dollars, absolutely ridiculous. But that's the way it is in the sports business here.
