The shooting of the new ‘Doctor Who’ spin-off has reportedly begun, most likely in the United Kingdom, the principal location of the series. Denise Welch, who is known for playing Natalie Barnes/Horrocks in ‘Coronation Street’ and Steph Haydock in ‘Waterloo Road,’ was spotted filming the series recently. The production of the original series’ fourteenth season recently wrapped and the fifteenth season’s shooting is slated to begin in December in Cardiff.
The spin-off series revolves around the UNIT, a military organization operating under the United Nations to investigate and combat paranormal and extraterrestrial threats to Earth. UNIT has featured significantly in the original series for the past 50 years. The spin-off will follow UNIT leader Kate Stewart. Jemma Redgrave appears as Stewart in around ten episodes of the original series. Redgrave will be appearing in the series after portraying Stewart in the ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas special later this year, starring alongside the new Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa (‘Sex Education’).
The new spin-off will be a part of an expanded “Whoniverse,” which was born after Disney+ struck a significant international distribution deal with BBC. ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner and executive producer Russell T. Davies revealed that the show is only one of the several spin-offs that will form the “Whoniverse.” “[…] it was time for the next stage for Doctor Who. I thought the streaming platforms are ready, the spin-offs are ready; I always believed in spin-offs,” Davies told British GQ about expanding the ‘Doctor Who’ universe with new shows set in the same.
Redgrave is best known for playing Evie Wilcox in ‘Howards End,’ alongside Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, Lady DeCourcy in Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny-starrer ‘Love & Friendship,’ MI6 Agent Emily Tuthill in ‘The Grid,’ Rebecca Edmonds in Craig Ferguson’s ‘I’ll Be There,’ etc. Her recent credits include DI Jill Raymond in ‘Silent Witness,’ Amelia Gurney-Clifford/Davenport in ‘Grantchester,’ Bernie Wolfe in ‘Holby City,’ etc.
Welch’s recent credits, on the other hand, includes Angela in ‘Dead Canny,’ Trish Minniver in ‘Hollyoaks,’ Doll Belvedere in ‘Dun Breedin’,’ Linda Bradshaw/Pam McGrath in ‘Holby City,’ etc. BBC has not announced other cast members of the spin-off series yet, which can be expected in the upcoming months.
Along with BBC Studios, Sony-backed Bad Wolf, the production company behind ‘His Dark Materials,’ ‘A Discovery of Witches,’ and ‘Industry,’ is expected to be involved in the production of the series. Bad Wolf has been co-producing ‘Doctor Wolf’ since the fourteenth season of the show.

John Paul Comes Clean...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (19th-23rd April 2021)
Hollyoaks kicked off its latest whodunnit this week as George was found dead (for real, this time). As the week began, John Paul decided to ignore Sally’s warnings and went house hunting with George. However, after a run in with James and Ste resulted in George turning on John Paul again, John Paul ended up kissing Ste and spending the night on his sofa. John Paul returned home the following morning and lied to George about where he’d been, saying that he’d slept in a hotel after their argument. Unfortunately, George didn’t believe John Paul and his suspicions were proved correct when he phoned the hotel, only to be told that they’d been closed for refurbishment since October. George confronted John Paul, resulting in yet another argument, and George stormed out. Later, at work, George confided in a colleague, making it look like he was the one being gaslighted, before texting John Paul to tell him he needed space.
Tumblr media
The following day, George’s colleague turned up at The Dog and informed John Paul that George had been killed whilst dealing with an altercation between four men. John Paul was left devastated by the news but, as he later looked through some of George’s belongings, he looked up to find the man himself standing in front of him holding an engagement ring! George revealed that he’d asked his colleague to fake his death in a bid to show John Paul how strong they were together. Of course, John Paul was horrified by George’s actions, despite George protesting that John Paul’s grief proved how much he loved him. John Paul decided to accept George’s proposal and the pair celebrated with a family gathering at The Dog. However, when James and Ste arrived, George was left furious when James revealed that John Paul had been with Ste earlier in the week. Eventually, George told John Paul that he would forgive him on the condition that he severed all ties with James and Ste, telling Ste that he would report him for sexual assault against John Paul if he objected. With his history, John Paul was disgusted that George would stoop so low and John Paul hit George, just as Sally and Theresa arrived. Having finally had enough, John Paul told his family about the months of torment he’d been subjected to. The McQeen’s were furious following John Paul’s revelation whilst George made plans to leave the village. However, as he waited for his taxi, he was attacked from behind by an unknown assailant...

Meanwhile, Trish was raging this week when she discovered that her takings had been stolen. After witnessing her accusing Leah, Ste revealed to Fergus that he was the thief and filled him in about his money worries. Fergus soon had a proposition for Ste and offered to buy the Lomax’s home and then rent it back to them for a reasonable rate. After talking it through with Leela, Ste agreed to proceed, much to the annoyance of James, who didn’t think it was a good idea. James was right to be worried as we later saw Fergus watching Peri via a hidden camera he’d placed in her bedroom, which he’d accessed under the guise of checking for a gas leak. The next day, Peri was delighted to receive a bikini, which she assumed was a gift from Juliet. However, when Juliet denied all knowledge, Peri was furious and blamed Warren, knowing that he’d visited the flat earlier in the day. Warren was forced to cover for Fergus when Fergus informed everyone that the bikini had actually been a gift for Maxine from Warren and it had been left it at the flat by mistake. Peri seemed to accept the explanation and when she’d gone, Warren demanded money from Fergus in exchange for his silence. However, instead of giving him the cash, Fergus booked a table for Warren and Maxine at a fancy restaurant....
Tumblr media
In other news this week, Martine told her family that she needed to have a biopsy whilst Mandy was devastated when Ella refused to see her. Sid decided that he’d like to become a police officer and was delighted when Courtney arranged for him to speak with DS Cohen to discuss his future. In fact, he was so thrilled that he kissed Courtney! Finally, Tony decided that Nancy and Darren should get back together and arranged a surprise date.

Sid Stabbed...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (1st-5th March 2021)
The village was hit with more tragedy this week, as Sid’s quest to bring down Victor came to a heartbreaking end. As the week began, Ste was furious following his discovery that Sid was still working for Victor and asked James for the money to pay Victor off. However, James had an alternative plan and, together with Sid, decided to record a confession from Victor in a bid to get Juliet released. Despite Ste’s insistence that the plan was far too dangerous, Sid was determined to go ahead. Things got off to a strong start when Sid went to drop some money off and Victor instructed him to wait in the car whilst he made a phone call. As Sid planted a listening device in the glove box, he was interrupted by Ollie, who was looking for drugs. Keen for nothing to get in the way of his mission, Sid quickly got rid of Ollie by promising to get him some drugs later and was delighted when he got his much needed confession from Victor. However, when Sid failed to come good on his promise, Ollie went to see Victor and told him what Sid had done...
Tumblr media
Rather than take the confession straight to the police, Sid took it home to add it to his video diaries but, as he was transferring the files to a laptop, Victor arrived at the door. As Victor broke into the house, Sid hid, but the arrival of Peri forced him to make a quick getaway. Once again, a shocking lack of brain power was demonstrated as Sid refused to call the police and decided instead to walk through the village to hand the confession in personally. However, in the Dog car park, Victor finally caught up with Sid and stabbed him, killing him. The village was left devastated by news of Sid’s death and difficult calls had to be made as Marnie and Peri got together to break the news to a heartbroken Juliet, Nancy phoned Charlie to share the news and Ste informed Leela, who is looking after her sick aunt.
Tumblr media
Over at Cindy’s, Luke and Darren arrived to find Ollie in a terrible state, having injected. This was the final straw for Luke and he threw his son out and Ollie was soon sent even further into a downward spiral when the news that Sid had died reached him. Later that day, James returned home to find Ollie attempting to rob him. The following day, Ste arrived to clean the place and was shocked to find Ollie wandering around in a towel. Jumping to conclusions, Ste went straight to tell Luke that James and Ollie had slept together, only to find James there and he admitted that he’d invited Ollie to stay the night out of concern for his safety. Later, Luke went to see Ollie, who admitted that he’d broken into James’s to look for money and begged his Dad for help. Sadly for Ollie, Luke refused to listen and told his son to stay away from the house until he was clean, taking his keys from him in the process. At his lowest point, Ollie was approached by Victor and the exchange between the pair was witnessed by Ste, who had grown concerned for Ollie. Keen to help, Ste went to see James, but with his recent attempts to bring down Victor having ended in tragedy, James was reluctant to get involved again. Not to be deterred, Ste went to see Ollie, who revealed that Victor had offered him a job. Although initially reluctant, Ollie was convinced by Ste to accept, telling him that they were going to finish what Sid had started...
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Sally overheard a conversation between George and DS Cohen and began to question whether or not he had mislead Peri over last week’s injuries. Sally shared her worries with John Paul, but this ended up making things worse as George ended up lashing out again when John Paul confronted him. The following day, George was keen to make it up to John Paul and planned a romantic gesture, only for Sally to turn up, and inadvertently ruin it when she assumed George was about to propose. Furious, George warned Sally that he would take John Paul away from her if she ever interfered in his relationship again...
Tumblr media
Elsewhere this week, Trish was forced to take her dance school to the school hall when she lost the space at the patisserie following an argument with Marnie, whilst Maxine finally stood up to her Mother when Trish’s constant put downs became too much. Sami discovered that Verity had been offered a new job in New York and finally, Romeo was concerned by the extent of Cher’s jealousy towards Mercedes.
Tumblr media

Welcome Home, Juliet and Charlie...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (15th-19th March 2021)
Two arrests, a wedding gone wrong and a return from the dead. It’s time to look back on another week in Hollyoaks! As the week began, it was time for Darren and Mandy’s wedding day but, with Mandy devastated by news that Nancy had made a pass at her husband to be, it was doubtful whether the wedding would go ahead. Darren was relieved when Mandy agreed to forgive him and the wedding was back on, however, Mandy soon had to contend with Ella begging her not to go through with it, pointing out that starting married life with a web of lies was wrong. Despite Ella’s pleas, the wedding went ahead, with Cindy and Jack acting as witnesses when everyone else failed to turn up. As the wedding party headed to the reception, Darren prepared to read a speech he’d written which, to Mandy’s horror, was written in the very notebook that Ella was hiding her letter from Charlie in. As Mandy tried to retrieve to notebook, the letter fell out, and Darren and Nancy finally realised that Ella had killed Jordan...
Tumblr media
Despite the new evidence, Mandy attempted to carry on with the lie and insisted that the letter was a mistake but Ella soon arrived on the scene and told the truth. Whilst Nancy angrily confronted Mandy, Jack pointed out to Darren that Mandy had only lied to protect Ella and told his son that she deserved to be heard out. Darren went to see Mandy and the pair seemed to reach an understanding when Mandy pointed out that, if they involved the police, Charlie would be charged with perverting the course of justice and then they would have two children in prison as opposed to one. Despite Charlie being his sort-of-son, Darren agreed that keeping quiet was the best thing to do but the situation was soon taken out of their hands when Nancy arrived with the police. Having spoken to Charlie, Nancy was furious to hear the details of Mandy’s conversation with him last week and wasted no time in pointing the police firmly in Ella’s direction...
Tumblr media
Ella was arrested and Mandy also had to face some tough questions herself, with DS Cohen believing that Mandy had forced Charlie to take the blame for the murder. Back at the Cunningham’s, more trouble was brewing when Cindy and Darren discovered that Luke had known about Ella’s role in the murder, prompting Cindy to banish Luke to the sofa and tell Mandy that she had to move out. Mandy was then dealt another blow during a video call with Ella as her daughter told her that she blamed her for her predicament. Mandy broke down as Ella told her she would never forgive her.
Tumblr media
There was happier news for the Osborne’s when Nancy and Darren received word that Charlie was to be released on bail the following day. In fact, the pair were so pleased that they slept together! However, after going to collect Charlie, the pair agreed to focus on the kids rather than a relationship.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Ollie was still determined to take down Victor, but his plans soon hit a Brooke-shaped bump in the road when she saw him with Victor and assumed he was buying drugs. Brooke’s attempts to convince Ollie to attend his support group soon gave him an idea and he suggested to Victor that he use the group as an opportunity to deal. Victor agreed, but told Ollie that he must get rid of Brooke first. Victor watched as Ollie ordered Brooke to stay away from him and then set Ollie a challenge by leaving some drugs with him to see if he cracked. Ollie completed Victor’s test and so was given drugs to sell. However, Ste later returned to the Lomax’s to find Ollie high and panicking about what he was going to do about Victor’s money...
Tumblr media
It didn’t take long for Victor to find out what had happened, however, he agreed to spare Ollie’s life on the condition that he killed Ste. Ollie filled Ste in on the situation and the pair came up with the plan to fake Ste’s death. Later, Victor arrived at The Dog car park to find ‘Ste’s body’ in the boot of a car, and Ollie quickly asked him for the location of his burial ground, pointing out that he didn’t want to make a mess of disposing of the body. Victor handed over an address and then, armed with a knife, opened the boot to check that Ste was really dead. Ollie panicked and ordered Ste to run however, the police, having been contacted by James, descended on the scene and Victor was arrested.  James, Ste, Ollie and Peri celebrated Victor’s arrest however, there was a touch of sadness in the air as everyone commented that Sid would be proud. At that moment, the group turned round to find Sid standing there, his death having been faked to protect him from Victor.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, at the police station, Victor was refusing to cooperate and, with his burial ground being devoid of bodies, it looked as though the police would have to let him go. Back in the village, James was preparing for Juliet’s hearing when Ste received a visit from Sasha, another teenager who’d been groomed by Victor. Having heard of Victor’s arrest, Sasha had been able to get hold of his notebook and burner phone and these were taken straight to the court by James. As James attended the hearing, Ste, Sid and Peri waited anxiously for news and there was delight all round when Juliet was handed a suspended sentence and allowed to return home!
Tumblr media
In other news this week, Liberty worried that her mental health struggles had caused her to lose her sparkle whilst Summer panicked as Sienna attempted to find out who’d shot her. Finally, Trish’s ex, Fergus, arrived in town, and soon set about trying to involve Brad in his dodgy dealings...
Tumblr media
This Week’s Cast:
Brad, Brody, Brooke, Charlie, Cindy, Courtney, Damon, Darren, Diane, DS Cohen, Ella, Felix, Fergus, Jack, James, Liberty, Luke, Mandy, Marnie, Maxine, Misbah, Nancy, Oliver, Peri, Sid, Sienna, Ste, Summer, Trish, Victor and Warren.

Blackmail, Beatings, and Bad News...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (10th-14th May 2021)
Fergus found himself in big trouble this week when his blackmailer, Katja, demanded a large sum of money in exchange for her silence about his perverted ways. Of course, Fergus wasn’t about to pay up and so told Warren that he needed to get rid of Katja, otherwise they’d both go to prison for the laptop robbery. Later, Joel saw a scared looking Katja in the village and she admitted that she had information about a robbery. Joel encouraged Katja to go to the police, however, as Katja made the call, Joel realised with horror that she was reporting his dad and urged her to hang up. The following day, Katja went to see Fergus and told him that she was willing to forget about the robbery, but only if he paid her £1000 per month. Fergus agreed and went to share the news with a relieved Warren, who decided to celebrate by taking a couple of days off work to spend time with Maxine. Unfortunately for Warren, this angered Fergus, and he told Maxine about Warren’s role in her accident. Maxine was furious by the news and told Warren that she wanted nothing more to do with him, infuriating Trish, who believed that her daughter was throwing away her last chance of happiness. Going to see Warren, Trish told him that he was probably better off without Maxine, causing Warren to leap to his ex’s defence. Predictably, Maxine overheard everything, and was touched by how much she clearly meant to Warren. Maxine agreed to give Warren another chance on the condition that he severed all ties with Fergus...
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Cleo found herself in a difficult position at work when she suspected that a young patient, Tommy, was lying about how he sustained an injury. Suspecting that the boy’s step-dad, Adrian, had something to do with it, Cleo tried to get Tommy to open up, but, just as he started to speak, Adrian arrived and he and Tommy got ready to leave. Sensing that Tommy was in danger, Cleo chased after them and lied that Tommy was having to stay in overnight as a precaution. The following day, Tommy eventually admitted that his step-father had caused his injury, and Cleo shared the news with Toby, breaking every patient confidentiality rule in the book in the process. Unfortunately, Tommy wasn’t willing to be honest with the police, and Cleo and Toby were left angry when DS Cohen told them that, unless Tommy made a formal statement, there was little she could do. Toby, however, wasn’t about to let Adrian get away with anything and he and Cleo confronted him. As Adrian ranted about Tommy, Toby viscously attacked him, much to Cleo’s horror. The following day, word reached Cleo that Adrian had handed himself him, however, Cleo denied any knowledge of his injuries when DS Cohen questioned her...
Tumblr media
Elsewhere, Misbah found a way to solve all of Shaq’s money worries when she found an antique statue in the attic. Knowing that the statue had belonged to Misbah’s late husband, Shaq felt terrible about it being sold, but soon changed his tune when he realised how much Misbah had been offered for it. Knowing he’d soon have the money he needed, Shaq excitedly shared the news with Fergus. As we know, it’s actually the Maalik’s house Fergus is interested in and, when no one was looking, Fergus knocked the statue to the floor. With their last hope at getting the money together lying smashed, Misbah decided to sell the house to Fergus, but insisted that Sami mustn’t find out.
Tumblr media
Yasmine was also keen to help solve Shaq’s money worries and decided to enter a journalism competition offering a cash prize. Yazz decided that Peri and Juliet would be the perfect interviewees but was left disappointed when they refused to be interviewed. Not be deterred, Yazz hatched a plan to get the answers she needed anyway, leaving Peri and Juliet angry when they realised they’d been tricked. When Yazz admitted why she needed the money, the pair agreed to be interviewed, but Juliet took offence to one of the questions and stormed off. Juliet was later seen receiving a text from an unknown individual, and her short temper over the days that followed left Peri fearing that Juliet was dealing again. By the end of the week, the pair had made up again and Peri was delighted when Juliet offered to move in. However, it looks like trouble could be on the horizon when Juliet confided in Sid that Donna-Marie had been trying to contact her.
Tumblr media
In other news this week, Trish was furious when she discovered that Marco and his brother, Jacob, had stolen her list of clients, and threatened them with the police. However, she was forced to back down when they in turn threatened her with whatever dirt they have on her. The McQueen’s decided to get rid of George’s belongings and sold his iPad to Verity, who was horrified to discover that it contained a video that could incriminate John Paul in George’s murder. Finally, Martine won the Dee Valley Businesswoman of the Year award, but was later devastated when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Summer and Sienna, Caught on Camera and Dancing Dreams...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (22nd-26th March 2021)
Summer continued in her quest to bring down Sienna and Brody this week, starting with framing Warren for Sienna’s shooting. As the week began, and with Sienna determined to find out the identity of the shooter, Summer suggested that she may not have been the intended target: what if they had been after Brody instead? To add weight to her theory, Summer scrawled ‘RIP’ over a photo of Brody, planted it in Sophie and Sebastian’s buggy and allowed Sienna to find out, thus pointing the finger of suspicion firmly in Warren’s direction.  Warren initially laughed off the allegations, until Brody found a box of bullets, one of which was missing, in a drawer at the garage. Furious, Sienna banned Warren from having any contact with the twins, leaving him devastated.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately for Summer, her framing Warren for the shooting actually brought Brody and Sienna closer together. Realising she would need to keep them apart, Summer decided to try and befriend Sienna and turned up on her doorstep to chat girlbands. Although slightly bemused at first, Sienna invited Summer in. The two women soon discovered that they had lots in common and Sienna ended up opening up about her past, in particular her relationship with her Father, Patrick. However, as Summer went to leave, she revealed her true colours, telling Sienna that Brody was with her now before kissing her and telling her that that was as close to Brody as she was going to get. Sienna was left seething and the following day, hijacked a microphone at the market to tell everyone what Summer was really like. Sadly for Sienna, she only succeeded in making herself look insane.
Tumblr media
Liberty took Sienna home and tried to convince her to stay away from Brody and Summer, pointing that if Summer was as bad for Brody as she thought, he would find out soon enough. Sienna went to apologise to Summer and the pair agreed to stay away from each other. However, Summer later went to see Sienna and told her that she had no intention of staying away from her. In order to take her mind of things, Sienna went to see Sally to enquire about returning to her job whilst Liberty told Summer that she would tell Brody what she was really like if she didn’t stay away from Sienna. Later, Summer approached Sienna and Liberty to offer a truce and walked away thinking they were even. However, Sienna revealed to her sister that she had no intention of letting her rival off the hook....
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Charlie was struggling to settle back in at home. Not only was he scared for his safety, but he was worried that his time in young offenders had caused him to fall behind at school. However, everyone quickly rallied round to help, with George supplying Jack with CCTV cameras for inside and outside the house and John Paul offering to tutor Charlie to get him back up to speed. John Paul’s kind offer unfortunately caused some friction with George, who was aggrieved at the amount of time John Paul was spending with Charlie. Things came to a head when Jack asked George to uninstall the CCTV and George discovered footage of Darren and Nancy discussing their recent fling. Knowing that Nancy had only told John Paul, George sensed an opportunity for trouble and quickly shared his discovery with Scott and Marnie at the Patisserie. George’s meddling had the desired affect when Charlie overheard Marnie gossiping to Goldie about Nancy and Darren and he stormed home to confront his aunt.
Tumblr media
Feeling like he’d been lied to, Charlie was furious with Darren and Nancy whilst Nancy headed off to confront the only person she’d told: John Paul. Nancy was angry with John Paul for betraying her confidence and told him she wanted nothing more to do with him, leading to John Paul hitting the bottle. As the night progressed, and John Paul became more and more drunk, he accused George of spilling Darren and Nancy’s secret. George eventually admitted what he’d done, but attempted to minimise his actions by telling John Paul he’d only done it to save him from the pressures of carrying the secret around. John Paul was horrified by George’s actions and berated him, as George took out his phone and began to film the incident. George eventually put the phone away and punched John Paul to ground before storming out. The following morning, John Paul awoke with no memory of the incident, but sensed from his injuries that things had turned violent. George quickly ‘filled John Paul in’ on what happened and, after showing him the video footage, claimed that he had attacked him in a drunken rage...
Tumblr media
Elsewhere, Trish was busy preparing for the opening of her dance school, but there was disappointment for Leah (welcome back!) when Ste told her that he couldn’t afford to send her. However, he soon came up with a way to get his daughter some free tuition when he offered to clean the hall in exchange for Leah’s place. Trish quickly agreed and realised she’d made the right decision when she saw Leah perform. In fact, she was so impressed that she offered Leah a solo at the school’s launch night. Leah was delighted by Trish’s offer, however, she was disappointed when she realised how expensive the costume would be and decided to pull out, knowing that Ste would never be able to afford it. Luckily, Courtney realised what had happened and Trish was understanding when she filled her in on the situation. However, as Leah later looked through the costumes, she clearly felt uncomfortable as she overheard Trish berating Maxine over how she looked and what she’d eaten...
Tumblr media
In other news this week, Felix, Brad and Warren were preparing for a dodgy business deal and Brad suggested that they get Toby on board too. However, Martine was furious when she found out what was being planned and insisted that both Felix and Toby should have no part in it. Finally, Sally invited Juliet to speak at school about the dangers of county lines gangs.

This Week’s Cast:
Brad, Brody, Charlie, Courtney, Damon, Darren, Felix, George, Goldie, Jack, James, John Paul, Juliet, Leah, Liberty, Marnie, Martine, Maxine, Nancy, Peri, Sally, Scott, Sid, Sienna, Ste, Summer, Toby, Tony, Trish and Warren.

A Series of Unfortunate Events...
Rounding up a Week in Hollyoaks (15th-19th February 2021)
Mercedes found herself a new enemy this week as stepdaughter, Cher, turned against her. As the week began, Cher was excitedly preparing for her 19th birthday and this particular birthday held particular significance as it was the first she was spending with Sylver. However, Sylver was forced to cancel, opting instead to stay and keep an eye on a drunk Mercedes, believing that she was falling back into her old ways. Sylver’s worst fears were seemingly confirmed when he discovered a bag of cocaine in Mercedes’ handbag. Despite Mercedes insisting that it must have been an old bag, Sylver refused to believe her, and stated that he recent behaviour suddenly made sense. However, he was left feeling bad when Mercedes revealed that she’d started her period, meaning she couldn’t be pregnant. Sylver promised to support Mercedes, angering Cher, and a flashback soon revealed that she’d planted the coke in Mercedes’ bag. Cher looked to have gotten away with her actions when Mercedes decided that Ollie must have been responsible, following their chat the previous day. However, when Mercedes went to confront him, he denied all knowledge, but did reveal that he’d pointed Cher in the direction of a coke dealer...
Tumblr media
Mercedes confronted her stepdaughter but, after realising she was simply upset about Sylver missing her birthday celebration, agreed to give her another chance. In fact, Mercedes even offered to organise another party for the teenager to make up for spoiling her last one. However, Cher's party didn’t go the way she was hoping, and Sylver and Romeo found themselves the centre of attention when they took their tops off for an impromptu photoshoot courtesy of Mercedes. Later that evening, Mercedes slipped on some oil and Cher was seen smiling to herself as her step-mother lay in agony. Despite her injury, Mercedes was determined to carry on as she prepared for a telephone interview for the prestigious Dee Valley Businesswoman of the Year award. However, unable to find her pain killers, Mercedes was forced to cut the interview short as she found herself unable to focus. Mercedes soon found the missing tablets when she heard a rattling coming from Cher’s pocket. Despite Cher protesting that she’d simply forgotten to give her the tablets, Mercedes refused to believe her and after realising that she’d been responsible for all of the week’s misfortunes, kicked her out. However, Sylver was left furious by Mercedes’ actions, and told her that he would not have a baby with her until she learned to accept Cher.

Meanwhile, Diane was agitated when she discovered that her scan had been cancelled, but Verity soon came up with a way to help, and, after filling Misbah in on Diane’s predicament, asked if she could organise a scan for them. However, Misbah was able to go one better, and suggested that she take a look at Diane’s medical records, pointing out that a pregnancy test would have been carried out when she was in her coma. Unfortunately, the records did not yield the result that Diane was hoping for and Misbah informed her that she was already pregnant when she was admitted, meaning that Tony could not be the Father. Heartbroken, Diane decided that she would have to have a termination, vowing that Tony must never know. However, Diane later arrived at the restaurant to find that Tony had organised an impromptu vow renewal. Diane was touched by Tony’s gesture but, as he said his vows, Diane suddenly announced that she was pregnant and that Edward was the Father. Although initially upset by the news, Tony began to come round to the idea of another baby being around, and Diane too admitted that she was having second thoughts about a termination. Tony agreed to support Diane and it looked as though the Hutchinson’s were back on track after a difficult few years. However, Diane was later shown obsessively checking the locks, determined to keep her family safe.

With news of Diane’s pregnancy out in the open, Verity realised that she would have to come clean to Sami. However, after seeing how excited he and his family were about the baby, she couldn’t bring herself to do so and told Diane she would just have to try and fall pregnant. However, Sami threw a major spanner in the works when he told Verity that he did not feel comfortable having sex with a pregnant woman!

Elsewhere, Mandy had a serious case of the green eyed monster this week as Darren’s history with Nancy continued to threaten their relationship. Mandy was annoyed when Darren abandoned their celebratory engagement breakfast, opting instead to video call Charlie and she was soon given more to worry about when Cindy picked up on Ella’s subdued mood (apparently she wasn’t appreciating ‘the full Cindy’). Luke suggested that Mandy and Cindy take Ella on holiday but Mandy wasn’t sure about leaving Darren behind. However, Darren thought that the holiday was a good idea and insisted that he would be fine. Later, Mandy confided in Jack that she was worried about leaving Darren and Nancy alone together given their history. Darren overheard the conversation and later rejected Nancy’s offer of meeting up to discuss an appeal for Charlie, leaving Nancy feeling more alone than ever, as she told Jack that Darren was the only one who truly knew what she was going through.

In other news this week, Trish and Brad invited Maxine and Minnie to move in with them whilst Ripley came out as non-binary. Brooke felt uncomfortable when Imran told her that he loved her and finally, Brody was clearly shaken when Summer revealed that Cormack had regained consciousness....

Parenting Perils...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (18th - 22nd January 2021)
Oh, Toby. He had one job but, alas, it appears that behaving like a rational human being for a short interview is a task beyond him. This week saw Toby sent into a panic as he was informed that he would need to undergo a psychological assessment if he was to act as a donor for Walter. Cleo’s attempts to reassure Toby made no difference and he fled, whilst Martine told Cleo that her son’s lack of relationship experience may be responsible for his erratic moods and strange behaviour. When Toby found out about his Mother’s interference, he was furious and his outburst frightened Cleo, who told him they were over. Having witnessed this, Felix told Celeste that he could no longer keep quiet about Toby’s anger issues and that he was going to the police, but Celeste insisted that they wait until the transplant had gone ahead.
Tumblr media
The following day, Covid-19 appeared to have done a disappearing act as Toby prepared for a face to face meeting with the counsellor at home. Unfortunately, the session went disastrously wrong when the counsellor found a copy of ‘The Red Door’ behind a cushion and Toby accused her of trying to catch him out, not realising that Felix had been reading it. A furious Toby threw the counsellor out and word soon reached Martine that Toby had refused the session. With Walter having deteriorated further, Martine was understandably angry that her Father’s last hope of a transplant had been thwarted, and she confronted Toby, who reacted by locking her in the garage. Luckily, Celeste arrived on the scene just as Toby was planning to torch the place and let her out. When Felix found out about what had happened, he insisted that it was the final straw, and that the police would have to be contacted. In a surprising move, Celeste insisted on making the call herself but instead, made a call to Dr Ley, asking her to come and ‘fix’ Toby...
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, tensions were high in the Hutchinson household this week as the family prepared for Edward’s will reading, and there was a shock in store when everything was left to Diane. However, Diane was soon given more to worry about when she discovered that she was pregnant, and confided in Verity that she had no idea who the Father was. As Diane struggled to come to terms with her new found predicament, the family prepared to scatter Edward’s ashes and Verity soon decided that the best place for her late Father was down the drain. She’ll get no arguments from me. Whilst Tony was pleased that his Father was now out of his life, Verity warned Diane that she couldn’t keep quiet about the pregnancy forever and Diane decided to book a scan to find out how far along she was, asking Verity to keep quiet in the meantime. However, whilst doing a spot of bin raking, Tony discovered the pregnancy test, and immediately assumed that it was Verity’s. The following day, Tony spotted Sami and Verity celebrating and congratulated them on the pregnancy, not realising that they were actually celebrating a new contract for the law firm. Verity reluctantly agreed not to drop Diane in it, but now finds herself having to lie to Sami, who ended the week struggling to come to terms with the belief that he’s about to become a Father...
Tumblr media
Elsewhere, Maxine bumped into her new landlord, Brad, this week, and his comments made her worry that she was about to lose her home. However, the following day, Brad reassured Maxine that he had no intention of kicking her out and there was clearly an attraction between the pair as they shared a kiss. Unfortunately for Maxine, any hopes of a relationship with the newcomer were quickly dashed when she discovered that Brad was actually in a relationship with her Mother, Trish, (although when has a little thing like that ever stopped a Hollyoaks resident?) who returned to the village this week. Despite Trish having been absent from Maxine and Minnie’s lives for the last few years, she set about trying to make amends as she informed her daughter that she and Brad were moving to the village. Although initially not happy at having her Mother on her doorstep, Theresa encouraged Maxine to give her a chance, and Maxine spent a nice afternoon with Trish and Brad at The Dog. However, when Brad went to the bar, he was seen looking at his phone and adding photos of Maxine to his collection of photos of women....
Tumblr media
In other news this week, Summer confronted Warren over the secret he and Sienna were keeping, and demanded to know if he’d attacked her Father. However, Warren lied that he and Sienna had been discussing their affair. Brody and Sienna made up after his kiss with Summer, and Sienna was delighted when Brody proposed, whilst James reluctantly agreed that Ste could clean the flat on a more permanent basis.
Tumblr media
Finally, having seen how much Darren was struggling with Charlie’s imprisonment, Luke warned Mandy that he wasn’t sure that he could keep quiet about Ella killing Jordan. However, Mandy begged him to keep shtum, bringing up the fact that Luke’s alcoholism had contributed to Ella’s stint in foster care and he couldn’t let her down again.
Tumblr media
5 Things We Learned This Week:
1. Maxine most definitely did not have “full rumpy pumpy” with her Mother’s boyfriend and that is the end of the matter.
2. Trish wants to move to Hollyoaks as she “loves the village vibe”. What, the stench of death lurking round every corner? The threat of someone taking revenge on you for the slightest misdemeanour? The 99% chance that you’ll be arrested for a crime you didn’t commit at some point? Yeah, Hollyoaks is a fantastic place to live!
3. Falling pregnant is no fun when you’ve no idea if your Husband, or his Father, is the Father. However, the Diane of 2010, who stole babies, would have been utterly delighted by this latest development.
4. James calling Ste ‘chav in the lav’ whilst he was cleaning the toilet was just “jocular workplace banter” and most definitely not bullying.
5. Marnie once sent back a cheese board because “it was too northern”.
This Week’s Cast:
Brad, Brody, Celeste, Cleo, Darren, Diane, Cindy, Cormac, Felix, Goldie, Grace, James, Luke, Mandy, Marnie, Martine, Maxine, Misbah, Sami, Sienna, Ste, Summer, Theresa, Toby, Tony, Trish, Verity, Walter and Warren.
Blasts From The Past:
Kurt Benson, Becca Dean, Hannah Hay, Edward Hutchinson, Lisa Loveday, Kathleen McQueen, Mitzeee Minniver, Ellie Nightingale, Sinead O’Connor, Jordan Price, Dom Riley

Disasters Everywhere...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (29th March - 2nd April 2021)
They say that bad things come in threes and that was certainly true for Trish, who this week was finally launching her dance school. Unfortunately, the day was littered with disasters; not only did Brad fail to show his face, nobody else turned up either as Maxine realised with horror that she’d put the wrong date on the posters. Then, Trish suddenly decided that Leah wasn’t good enough to perform after all and cruelly scrapped her solo. Finally, Trish was clearly rattled when one of the only people who did turn up was  AJ Pritchard Marco, a dance teacher from her previous school who was clearly relishing her embarrassment.  As Trish looked to put the terrible launch behind her, she had to deal with Courtney, who was furious at how poorly Leah had been treated, and she demanded that Trish give Leah free 1-to-1 tuition. Trish agreed and later told Leah that she was going to have to do exactly as she told her if she wanted to make her dance dreams come true.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Brad, Felix and Warren were preparing to steal some laptops, but the job turned out to be far more difficult than they had imagined and poor Maxine ended up getting knocked over by the hijacked van. Luckily, Maxine survived but it was soon panic stations when she wanted to report what had happened to the police. Warren, with the help of a scary mask, convinced Maxine to forget about what had happened, however, Maxine later spotted the mask in Warren’s flat and realised what he’d done. Maxine confronted Warren but, rather than own up to his part in the robbery, Warren gave Maxine Felix’s name instead. Once Felix found out, he took the laptops and pocketed the money, leaving Brad and Warren furious. Brad had a trick up his sleeve, and told Felix that he would go to the police unless they got their share of the money. However, Brad may have to kiss goodbye to the money when he was visited by Fergus, who admitted that the whole robbery had been a set-up and unless Brad signed his business over to him, he would give his name to the police.
Tumblr media
Elsewhere, Cher continued to make life difficult for Mercedes this week and suggested that she and Sylver went on a camping trip, making sure that Mercedes was kept in the dark about the plans for maximum drama. Both Mercedes and Romeo were left annoyed when they discovered that Sylver and Cher had gone and ended up spending the night together. Out in the wilderness, Cher was enjoying spending some time alone with Sylver and had even taken his phone to ensure that Mercedes couldn’t spoil things. The following morning, Sylver was looking for his missing phone and was puzzled to find that Cher had it. However, she was able to talk herself out of trouble and insisted that she must have picked it up by accident...
Tumblr media
Father and Daughter returned to the village but Cher was annoyed when Sylver quickly turned his attentions back to Mercedes and the trolls and recruited Tom to help track the trolls down. A panicked Cher impressed Mercedes when she filmed and uploaded a video warning the trolls to stop, hoping that it would be enough to get Tom to drop the investigation. However, she was too late and Tom had already deduced that, instead of several trolls, there was just the one using various pseudonyms, and the accounts could all be linked to a tablet that belonged to Marnie. Cher immediately accused Romeo of being the troll whilst a furious Sylver went to confront Marnie. However, as Sylver read out the messages to a bemused Marnie, the penny dropped for Romeo as he realised that both Cher and the troll had incorrectly used the term “escape goat” and that Cher had had ample opportunities to access Marnie’s tablet. Cher eventually admitted what she’d done and Romeo warned her that if she didn’t own up, he would do it for her...
Tumblr media
In other news this week, John Paul and George took some time away from the village to repair their relationship whilst Cleo was worried when she found out that Pete was being released from prison. Cindy decided to enter the ‘Business Woman of the Year’ competition and finally, Ripley found themselves a new place to live as they moved in with Grace.

Drugs, Dancers and the Dummy Doctor...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (8th-12th February 2021)
Mandy and Nancy found themselves in the bad books this week as the aftermath of the county lines drama continued. As the week began, Nancy was up the wall with worry when she discovered that Charlie was planning to plead guilty and she also had to face difficult questions from Grace, who joked that the 14 year old killer in the paper could be Charlie. After a video call with her nephew, Nancy was left more convinced than ever that Charlie was covering for someone and told Jack that she wanted to speak to the only other person who knew what happened on the night that Jordan was killed: Ella. Of course, getting Ella alone was going to be a problem, and Mandy ordered Nancy to stay away from her daughter when she went to see her. However, later that day, Ella was left with Tony whilst Darren and Mandy went to see the bank manager. With Tony preoccupied attempting to fix a freezer that clearly had a personal vendetta against him, Nancy found the perfect opportunity to get some answers, and offered to take Ella off Tony’s hands...
Tumblr media
As Nancy and Ella talked outside The Dog, it looked like Nancy might just get the information she was looking for until Mandy arrived and dragged her daughter away. Once back at home, Mandy was still seething about Nancy’s interference and, desperate to protect Ella, maliciously named Charlie as the killer in the comments section of an article about Jordan’s murder.  As word spread, Nancy became convinced that a member of the drugs gang that Charlie was working for were responsible and warned Mandy that Ella could be in danger too. Later, Nancy had another video call with Charlie, who was devastated that his name had been leaked and looked set to admit the truth. However, when Nancy revealed how much Ella had been struggling recently, Charlie had a change of heart and realised that he couldn’t put his friend through the trauma that he was currently experiencing. He did, however, let slip that he would never have been forced to work for the gang had it not been for Sid. With someone new to blame for Charlie’s predicament, Nancy went after Sid and eventually found him outside The Dog, where he was preparing to complete a drop-off for Victor. Seeing Nancy approach, Sid hid the delivery in his prosthetic and was forced to listen to Nancy rant and rave about him and Jordan. Seeing red, Sid tore into Nancy and brought up Kyle, causing her to pick up his prosthetic and launch it, and the delivery, into the river.
Tumblr media
Nancy instantly regretted her actions and went to the Lomax’s to apologise. However, Ste was in no mood to listen and demanded that Nancy come up with £10,000 to pay for a new prosthetic, or he would go the police. Later, Darren saw Courtney having a go at Nancy over the incident and realised what a mess she had gotten herself into it. Earlier in the week, Darren and Mandy had sold their shares in the restaurant to Tony and Diane, allowing them to pay off their mortgage arrears, and Darren decided to give this money to Ste. Mandy was furious when she realised what Darren had done, pointing out that they stood to lose their home without that money. Darren refused to apologise but promised Mandy that he would sort things out. The family soon found new accommodation courtesy of Cindy, but Luke was less than impressed when he discovered the identity of his new houseguests. Finding himself alone with Mandy later, Luke insisted that it would be best for everyone if she told Darren the truth about Ella. Mandy agreed to think about it but her efforts to share the terrible truth resulted in her proposing to Darren!
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the truth about Dr Ley’s sinister intentions towards Toby were finally revealed when Celeste snuck a look at her notebook and realised she was writing a sequel to The Red Door. Celeste shared her discovery with Cleo and Felix and Felix immediately stormed across to The Loft to confront Dr Ley, who had just discovered that Toby had killed Lisa. Felix warned Toby that Dr Ley was using him as material for another book and Toby was torn between his Father and Dr Ley, as both insisted that they knew what was best for him. Eventually, Toby agreed to leave with Felix and decided to hand himself in for Lisa’s murder. However, Celeste soon arrived on the scene, bringing news that Dr Ley was a fraud and had never actually qualified as a Doctor. As the police arrived to arrest her, Dr Ley threw down her camera, smashing it, insisting that they would be unable to pin anything on her. After Dr Ley was taken away, Toby was still determined to hand himself in, until Felix told him that he deserved a second chance. However, the following day, Toby spent the day with Cleo and her family and quickly became uneasy by Mercedes and Goldie’s continual personal questions. Toby made his excuses to leave and was soon followed by Cleo. Unfortunately, as Cleo tried to reassure Toby, he suffered flashbacks to his time with Dr Ley and his frightening rage caused Cleo to run off.
Tumblr media
Elsewhere, Maxine was keen to find something to help Trish fill her days, and suggested that she set up her own dance school. After getting a banner sorted in record quick time, attentions soon shifted to finding a venue, and they looked to have hit the jackpot when they discovered that Marnie was looking to rent out space in the Patisserie. However, Maxine and Trish faced competition from Romeo and Cher, who wanted to use the space to open a hair salon. Marnie offered both business a trial run and Cher was sure she had it in the bag when Marnie overheard Trish criticising her dance skills following a taster class! However, there was a shock in store, as Marnie announced that she’d decided to rent the space to Trish.
Tumblr media
In other news this week, Martine invited Celeste to move in with her whilst George tried to convince Courtney that he wasn’t an abuser. Finally, Diane received the money from Edward’s will and announced her intentions to split it between Tony and Verity. Sami suggested to Verity that they put the money towards a house and when he was caught searching for a suitable property, he informed a delighted Misbah that he was going to be a Father. However, Misbah later spotted Verity outside The Dog, glass of wine in hand...

Note
With the introduction of Denise Welch as a recast Trish Minniver, surely this is all the confirmation we need that Hollyoaks has no respect for its long term audience? Not only does Denise look nothing like the previous version of the character, she's 10+ years than the character is supposed to be!
It’s seeming increasing likely that the only thing that the new incarnation of Trish will have in common with the old one is a name.
Regarding her age, Denise said on Loose Women yesterday, “I am 62, so is Trish”, so they’ve obviously aged the character up as she was only 39 in her 2010 appearances!
When the casting was first announced, I remember @IareSam tweeting that he wouldn’t be surprised if they’d decided to introduce Maxine’s Mum and then someone later on down the line realised that the character already existed. The more we hear about Trish, the more convinced I am that this is what has happened, especially as Denise said that the role had been created especially for her.
