This is Shari. My person. @herschelsmother She is everything listed in this obituary and so much more. She loved BLUE things and purple smells. She loved tiny rodents and possums and raccoons and sloths. We shared a mutual love of food: cheese, fried things, more cheese, good burgers, blue cheese, snow cones, ice cream, chinese food, taco bell...she LOVED food. Anything with salted caramel was in her wheelhouse and she was known the world over for her healing chocolate chip cookies. She was always well-prepared before we went to (or ordered delivery from) a new restaurant because she scoped out the menu days, weeks, even months in advance.

Shari was a reader and a writer as well as an unabashed consumer of all things television and movies. The X-Files, Friends, Friday Night Lights, Stranger Things, Downton Abbey (she missed the movie 😭), The Big Bang Theory, Greys Anatomy, Veronica Mars, MASH... we could talk about TV for ages. We did, as a matter of fact. For 20+ years. We shared a netflix account and a vudu account and were constantly dragging each other into our newest obsessions.

Contrary to her own belief, Shari was incredibly talented. For a while she made jewelry (who remembers "Beady-Eyed Designs"?) and then she moved onto card-making, a passion she passed on to me with a good amount of her card-making "stuff". Anybody who has been friends with her for more than a minute also knows about those gorgeous CAKES she made. She was her worst critic, often claiming they weren't that great. Shari wasn't often wrong about much, but she was wrong about her talent. She had it in spades.

Shari was FUNNY. Whip-smart, blazingly funny. She had a giggle that was absolutely infections and I have laughed harder with her than I have laughed with anyone ever on the planet. And more often than not, we were laughing about something stupid, juvenile and probably not all that funny in the first place. "Plunk your magic twanger, frooooogggyyy!"

Shari was Southern. She identified deeply with her southern roots (but she also wanted every Confederate monument removed so jot that down.) She thought Pig BBQ was superior, she taught me to make Fluffy Green Stuff and Pretzel Torte, and her "bless your heart" was at the same time the most lovely and cutting thing she could say.

Shari loved her people. She spent a lot of time thinking about, worrying about and doting on the (many many) friends she had made in her life. For many of you XF peeps, she was ALWAYS telling me about you, your dogs, your children. You were in her heart and her mind all the time. She mostly had to refer to you as your screen name so I knew who she was talking about, but I feel I know you all beyond the fic because she loved you so much.

Shari was a fighter. Her body tried to keep her down but she wasn't about to let it. But she also didn't keep quiet about injustice, unfairness, and dirty dealings. I'm devastated that she didn't get to see the first woman president and that she had to leave us while that tangerine turdsicle (I'm just using her phrasing here, people) was still in office.

One of her favorite past-times was getting those "Your windows computer is infected" Spam phone calls and toying with them until they hung up. Once someone told her she didn't have a penis and she was a lady-man. Good grief, how we laughed.

She LOVED her niece and nephew. R was her sweet baby and H was her baking partner in crime. I ache to know that they will miss out on having their Aunt Shari around while they grow up, especially H who had such an amazing female role model in her.

We often joked about sharing a brain but I don't know how much of that was really a joke. We just KNEW each other. KNEW each other in a way you don't find very often. We often texted each other the same thing at the same time. And by "often" I mean daily. And, sadly, that means the day she passed I also KNEW she was telling me goodbye. I could feel it, I knew it, and it terrified me as much as it comforted me.

We talked every day. All day. Every day. For 20+ years. She knew everything about me, every hope and fear and harbored resentment. And I believe I knew her heart just as well. And that was the most amazing part of our friendship - to know someone KNOWS YOU - even the parts you're not sure you like about yourself - and loves you wholly.

Shari loved God. Not in a way that meant she judged people, but in the way that meant she LOVED people. She had the kind of strong Faith that meant she had an open mind and an open heart, and she didn't believe it was her place or her job to be anything other than kind, loving and gracious. She embodied faith and God and Christ in everything she did and she did it so effortlessly that those who eschewed or were even afraid of organized religion felt her Faith and were comforted by it.

Shari was more than could ever be captured in words. She was a spirit and a joy and a force to be reckoned with. I am honored beyond all measure to have been able to call her my Person and today and every day to come, I will strive to be the person she believed me to be.

Thank you, Big Sista (Dr Doodlebug, scullysfan), for loving me. For kicking my butt. For listening to me whine, for letting yourself unload on me. I'm going to do great things and you will be a big part of the reason why. You were the greatest gift of my life and I miss you.

Etsy & Shapeways Integration

As you may or may not know, all of our 3D printing is done through Shapeways 3D printing service, located in Brooklyn NY. Shapeways has begun beta testing a new Etsy integration, which we will be setting up and testing out over the next few weeks.

What this means: Generally faster delivery times, and cheaper shipping. Non-poseable skeletons will now ship straight from the printers to customers. International orders should be much quicker to fulfill now, since they will be shipping from Shapeways' Eindhoven Netherlands facility rather than the US.

Our "In a Can" line, 2D prints, other non-3D printed items, and Jewelry will be unaffected by this change, as they require post processing or are made in house, in the case of 2D prints.

Additionally, Etsy listings will now give the option to include or leave out the paperwork that generally ships with each model. Prices will be the same as they are now if the paperwork is included (paperwork will ship separately from the model), or $5 cheaper across the board if it isn't included.

There shouldn't be many other changes aside from where the models ship from, but if anyone has any question or concerns, our email address is [email protected]

TL;DR - Faster, cheaper order fulfillment and potentially cheaper skeletons going forward.

Sunday 5/6

My roommates name is Shauna. She doesn’t flush and when I got here there was what I can only assume were soiled clothes in a brown paper bag.

A woman in the hall is also talking about her shit. I’m the youngest person here and im afraid to shower, there’s no door. The poop lady is cackling.

My roommate and I talked, she’s nice, and I met her night nurse and she is so nice. Her name is Maria.

I’m having a hard time figuring out why I feel like this. Its hard b/c I’ve been hungover but surely that’s not all it is. How do you recover from a hangover so bad you end up in a psych ward?

It weird not having my phone, I want to check twitter. I don’t want to go to group therapy tomorrow.

I just can’t stop crying, my eyes actually hurt.

My mouth tastes bad but I have no toothpaste.

I started reading this book called notorious nineteen and it is truly trash.

I don’t have the lights on bc Shauna’s sleeping- I feel like Mozart.

My eyes hurt, I might go call my dad again to get my moms phone number.

Ill be back.

Got Taylor’s # and called her/my mom. Maria gave me some antihistamines to try to calm me down/sleep.

My sisters want to come visit me on Tuesday.

I’ve only eaten a donut this morning.

(12:30 pmish) I feel like I’m in a dream. I’ve been sleeping all day- it turns out it was only like 3 hours tops.

I had so many dreams.

I just went and talked to a big ass table of doctors about my life and I just feel so groggy. They’re in there talking about me.

I skipped lunch b/c my tummy hurt so bad after breakfast.

Shauna puked everywhere.

I think she’s leaving.

Also turns out she’s in withdrawal AND pregnant.

And she has an infected injection site on her arm.

I just talked to my mom/dad/Taylor and asked them to bring me some books + shirts.

The nice psychiatrist said she would give me some adavan to calm me down. Also I skipped lunch b/c my stomach hurt so bad from breakfast but now I’m hungry so I guess they’re gonna order me something. I feel so weird. (might have napped here)

4ish pm

40 mg stratera (sp?), one mg atavan.

Finally left my room, I’ve been asleep all day.

Nurse went and got me a coke + a water and I saw they’re watching forgetting Sarah Marshall so I thought Id join. Everyone called me out when I came in since ive been hiding out. Bitches.

I’m holding myself back from asking why everyone’s here.

Assassin’s creed guy, also known as biting guy (an inside joke from earlier) and sweater girl are talking about if the food delivery guy has extensions.

We got called to dinner, now were finishing Sarah Marshall.

Biter dude told hair guy “nice hair”.

Oh my god, when peter sings about how much he hates himself, biter and white shirt turned to me and said dang sounds like he’s going to be in the room next o me! way to be self aware guys!

Just called my dad to find out about my stuff getting dropped off but turns out he did 2 hours ago and its all been in my room.

I started crying immediately b/c Taylor is amazing- she brought me the perfect books. It was like she was talking to me through the books.

She gave me b Franks autobiography and Jesse Donaldson’s ‘on homesickness’. And the book Amanda gave me. also wuthering heights and pastures of heaven. All so perfect.

Shirts is roasting the shit out of double lasagna (he ate… double the lasagna we all got for dinner).

He keeps saying he looks like he’s about to give birth

What an anecdote.

“they could have stolen my jewelry or even my virginity!” – about the guys who helped when he got too drunk. Double lasagna’s real name is * but he just introduced himself as Dorothy (to hair the night nurse helper).

Fake Abby (biting guy came to my room thinking I was her) is here and shirt just said “you’re awfully quiet” and she rejected him hard. It was awk.

One of the helpers is just chillin in here w/ us while I read my shitty book and we watch “just go w/ it” – its so bad.

One of the nurses (pony tail) just made me go on a walk down the hall w/ him. They all keep asking me how I’m feeling and I keep saying fine but I’m not. As long as I don’t talk I don’t cry. I’m starting to think I want to stay here longer but also leave right away. Its all so confusing.

Double lasagna just asked hair nurse if he could have his phone out of his bag and the way just looked up from his phone and said “nuh uh” was iconic.

Its 805 pm and I think I’m going see about getting my sleeping pills so I can just crash.

I need to document stuff better tomorrow b/c I don’t like how much of a blur today is.

I finally showered and I feel better I think. I just don’t know what the move is once I get out. Like I don't know how to talk to anyone.

I need Taylor to contact Morgan I think.

I’m sure she’s confused. Or maybe she doesn't care literally at all. Who cares. I’ve been surprised at how easily I’ve been sleeping today especially without my phone and with everything on my mind.

I need a talk therapist like yesterday.

I can’t bring myself to get through any of the books Taylor brought. The 19 book in such trash but it’s easy to read.

The shower needs to be pressed every 45 seconds to say on. I wore shower shoes.

Fake Abby doesn’t know what the move is, I can tell.

I called Taylor + my mom then got snack in my night meds. I mom told me to call back to talk to Mack so I just did. She’s lovely.

Double lasagna somehow talked to snack nurse into giving him a full sandwich. I got a strawberry poptart and a coke.

They’re checking in a new girl now who looks a bit like she’s closer to my age.

I’m happy she’s not my roommate.

I think tomorrow ill try to call family/friends less and trust the process. I need to really take a step back.

I’m just happy I feel comfortable sitting in the sun room. I knew a lot more about movies than they did

slept super hard but also had super vivid dreams. Mack and I talked about that last night.

She said she had never brought it up. I was a little restless, prob just bc they were constantly opening my door and eventually just stopped closing it.

I’m just trying to let go of control. I don’t want my phone back. I need to talk to someone about the insane anxiety I feel when I think about home back to the real world.

Even just being in my apartment scares me b/c it feels like its full of negative energy. I need to focus on the good when I get out.

I keep thinking about my phone bill and I can’t remember if I paid for internet. Also the maintenance light is still on in my car.

Even though mom and dad are coming today I need to be communicating less w/ outside world. If I really want to be off the grid I need to really b alone with me thoughts and be okay with it.

I kept feeling for my phone throughout the night.

I wonder what the nurses think of me. do I seem different than everyone else?

I keep finding myself trying to relate to the nurses, esp. the young male one (hair) but what am I trying to prove? That I’m not like everyone here?

I’m in TV room w/ singer. I asked what we’re watching and she said “some kind of cartoon”. She’s not screaming which is awesome. I’m going to read Wuthering Heights.

Called dad and asked him to bring me a pair of readers since my eyes hurt. Nice nurse #2 is here again. She’s blonde. I haven’t seen Maria again. Met another nurse too. She was young. Also there’s a fake nurse (fake nurses are in teal, like hair, and he real ones are in blue) who I def. know. Cant figure out from where, maybe high school? Either way, not cool with it. Also, they sharpened my pencil.

Having a hard time focusing on reading. My eyes hut.

I don’t like waiting around.

Is it petty to point out inconsistencies in the rules? There’s different info on different sheets in the packet they gave us. Makes me wonder how closely these patients are reading it. Its all petty though, like whether or not we should take 5 or 10 minutes to use the phone or how many visitors we can have at a time.

I know myself too well, ill be bringing it up. I’m going to check on breakfast.

breakfast was sub par. Sat alone. New girl, sat w/ double lasagna. She only wanted milk so homeboy asked if he could eat hers! Has he learned nothing?? I ate pretty quick; I think I need to go back to sleep. I feel weird.

Dr.?? (nice psychiatrist) came in and we talked. Started fine but I got really upset b/c of how much I feel like garbage and I don’t now if I want to be here. But also I don’t want to go back to the real world. She left and I went to go get a visteral 25 mg b/c I’m so upset. They gave it to me and when I got back to my room I 100% had a panic attack.

I felt like I was a kid again. Maybe its b/c I’m here but I’ve never been sure that what it was until now. They happened a lot as a kid and usually ended in my mom holding me and saying everything’s ok. Its so hard not having that now. I left my room and the med student from Sunday was in the hall and he came and talked to me until I calmed down.

With talking to them I finally feel like I’ve been able to verbalize how anxious I feel here along with how I feel about leaving. I just need to rest my eyes for right now, but when I’m up I need to write down what Dr. B said about when I get out.

I miss my parents.

Social worker came in, she’s lovely. Talked a bit then I kept resting.

She gave me some info on how to stay grounded during a panic attack.

Then I think I went to the rec room to do a puzzle but then religion group started. I stuck around but then little dr came to get me and asked if I would meet with big table of doctors even though I hate it.

I did it but it made me upset again. They said they would come talk to me but they haven’t.

I fell asleep again then not Maria nurse came to tell me they’re gonna give me more adavan once my visteral wears off. Fell back asleep then got a drink/ate lunch.

My puzzle got hijacked so I brought a new one into my room. I hit a wall so I stopped to write all this down and go find out what they talked about it my meeting.

I think its around 1 pm.

Sat and watched how I met your mother for a little. Started crying. Asked a nurse when I was gonna get talked to when little doc came up. they gave me an adavan and now I’m waiting for him to come talk to me. the maid is making up Shauna’s old bed while I sit and cry. Very awk.

I don’t know why I keep crying. I just feel like I’m going to keep having these attacks. I feel so hopeless.

Still sitting here crying. Still no doctor.

lil doc came to talk to me and I got upset. I don’t understand what my next move is.

Just slept pretty hard until now then got dinner. Going back to sleep is very tempting.

I honestly don’t know what I’ve been doing since after dinner. I’ve been doing the puzzle in the TV room. I’ve been watching the office. I asked nice nurse if I could have another pill but she’s pretty sure she cane until its time for bed. My anxiety is pretty high right now my parents will be here in like an hour.

7 pm

officially been hoarding pencils. They say I can have an atavan at 10 pm for bed, but they gave me a V. im wondering if that’s going to help me sleep. They’re going to put me on abilify on top of my startera. I’m hoping they’ll give me some of this visteril to take home in case I start to freak.

Decided that in order to help me not get stressed I want someone to take my phone and ask me one by one about who texted/called/emailed and help me deal with it. Same w/ my bank statement.

I want to say I feel better, but I don’t know. Its just all a blur.

I want to see m parents so I can find out what the move is when I get out. Maybe a meeting with Andrea and social working and one of them would be cool.

I don’t want to get out after Taylor leaves. Fuck.

Mom and dad came and I feel a bit better. Mom and I did our crossword puzzle and dad and I figured out grad school. I also had him assure me I don’t need to worry about $ right now.

I asked for a pen but they said no. but I STOLE ONE FROM MY DAD!!

Honestly its low on ink but just having it feels great.

Just called my mom and said goodnight to Mack. I feel ok. Mostly just shook b/c of how much of a dream this all feels like. But I’m ok. Time to crossword and eat my poptart like the star patient I am. And I’m gonna do it in god damn pen!

It was hard for me to think of what I wanted to b/c I just woke up. but she made a good point that if I’m sick and drowsy it could be good to stay since they’ll change the time I get the abilify. I don’t know. Just very tired.

Newer girl is even scarier she’s very touchy. Seems like she doesn’t listen.

New girl just came in and snatched the stuff out of singer’s hands and then tried to talk to everyone. Now singer is out for blood. New girl is wild.

Cant remember if I already wrong down that I talked to chels. I want help meal prepping and doing some laundry. Also someone to sleep over. I want my own bed, but I don’t want to be alone. I don’t want my phone. I don’t know what good anyone can do me right now until my meds get figured out. I don’t know!!

I met my new nurse, DD, who said I’m taking my abilify in an hour. Then I want my sleeping pills so I can konk out, ugh.

Everything sucks but its ok bc I am Abigail Nash and I am safe in the present. I am not in the past. The present. And there are people that love me.

We’re all grateful to all the essential workers out there who are treating our family and friends, delivering groceries, teaching classes online, collecting our garbage and much, much more. So we decided to say thanks by paying tribute on our site to all of their efforts. BABOR: Producing hand sanitizer disinfectant at its Aachen, Germany facility and distributing it to police officers, nursing homes and medical facilities in the Aachen region.

Blenders Eyewear: Delivered 10,000 goggles to frontline medical workers at hospitals across Southern California, including UCLA Medical Center, Sharp Memorial Hospital and Scripps Medical Center.

Brandon Maxwell: Producing PPE, including gowns.

Bvlgari: Manufacturing several hundred thousand bottles of hand cleansing gel with sanitizer to be distributed to all medical facilities through the Italian government.

Carolina Herrera: Making both hospital gowns and masks for sanitary personnel and food manufacturers.

Catbird: Giving $10 of the purchase price from its Mother of Pearl Love Token to Direct Relief.

Chanel: Plans on producing over 50,000 face masks and gowns for France’s essential workers, like health care professionals and police.

CHI: Donated $1 million worth of its hand sanitizer to the cities of Houston and Tomball, Texas.

Christian Dior: Using its workshop to produce masks for exposed essential workers like supermarket cashiers.

Christian Siriano: Started making face masks to help deal with the shortage.

Collina Strada: Producing masks in conjunction with Masks4Medicine.

Coty: Donated $1 million for protective gear for health care professionals. It also teamed up with Kylie and Kris Jenner to produce hand sanitizers for hospitals in Southern California.

Curls: Donating N95 ventilator masks, gloves and hand sanitizer to health organizations across the country.

Dr. Barbara Sturm: Held a maskathon to raise funds and awareness for the World Health Organization and First Responders First.

Draper James: Handed out free dresses to teachers.

DROMe: Making protective masks for Italian hospitals.

Endure Beauty: Partnered with luggage brand Zero Halliburton on care packages as a way to say thank you and provide comfort to frontline workers who are away from home.

EOS: Donated 50,000 units of its Shea Better Hand Cream to some of New York City’s hospitals and health care workers. It also donated another 50,000 hand creams to support health care workers across the United States.

ÉTICA: The sustainable lifestyle brand shifted production to exclusively produce FDA-approved medical and non-medical grade masks and PPE. It has produced over 4,000,000 units for various governmental and health agencies since late March.

Fleur du Mal: The brand is earmarking 10 percent of online proceeds for NYC Health + Hospitals.

Fresh: Delivered thousands of skin care products to health care professionals in many New York hospitals.

Fur: Offering a full-size Fur Oil to help all those on the front lines take care of themselves after a long day of work.

Garnier USA: Making its own hand sanitizer and plans on handing out 2 million units to frontline retail employees across the country.

Giorgio Armani: Making protective gear for health care workers.

GLAMGLOW: Donated units of its Bubblesheet and Thirstymud masks to 1,000 health care workers across the country.

Glow Recipe: The brand is giving away full-size Blueberry Bounce cleansers and a one-month supply of Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream to health care providers.

Graff: The fine jewelry brand donated $1 million to the Solidarity Response Fund.

Guerlain: Producing hand sanitizer for French health care workers and hospitals.

H&M: Producing PPE for hospitals and health care workers.

Herbivore Botanicals: Created Hand Hero, a rinse-free, hand-purifying gel with 75 percent alcohol, and donated 50,000 units to United Way in the Seattle area and 25,000 units to hospitals across New York City.

Hermes: Donating 31,000 masks and 30 tons of hand sanitizer to public hospitals in Paris.

Kate Spade New York: Set to donate $100,000 to Crisis Text Line to help provide mental health counseling and emotional support to doctors and nurses.

KES: Donating face masks to medical facilities and organizations serving the homeless in New York City for every mask you buy.

Kinkō: Created nearly 10,000 bottles of Prebiotic Hand Purifier to donate to Texas hospitals, medical facilities and homeless shelters along with essential small businesses in need.

La Perla: Donating 10 percent of proceeds to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund hosted by the United Nations Foundation and Swiss Philanthropy Foundation in support of the World Health Organization. It also donated 10,000 masks to frontline workers in Bologna and another 10,000 masks went to the Porto City Hall Field Hospital in Portugal.

La Roche-Posay: Donated almost 1 million purifying hand gels to hospitals and clinics throughout the world.

Loewe: Donating 100,000 surgical masks to the Spanish Red Cross.

L’Oréal: Dedicating $720,000 to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation to be spent on medical supplies like masks and protective gear for medical professionals.

LoveShackFancy: Plans on handing out 300 face masks to those working on the front lines.

Mane Club: For every hair mask purchased on the brand’s site, $1 will be donated to A Million Masks to help provide US NIOSH-approved N95 Respirators and KN95 Respirators from CE-certified factories to New York City’s busiest emergency rooms and intensive care units.

Michael Kors: Donating $750,000 to NYU Langone Health and $750,000 to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Michael Stars: Making non-medical masks for health care workers.

Milk Makeup: Collaborated with the Wu-Tang Clan to raise over $100,00 for New York City’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund. It also donated $250,000 worth of skin care products to New York City first responders across city hospitals.

Monbouquette Jewelry: The brand donated 15 percent of new necklaces purchased to Direct Relief, a nonprofit working within the United States and internationally to equip doctors and nurses with lifesaving medical resources.

Nike: Teaming up with Good360 to donate over 140,000 shoes, apparel and equipment to health care workers around the world.

Nili Lotan: Opening up its archive for customers to buy past pieces for up to 70 percent off retail with 10 percent of the site’s monthly profits going to charity (starting with NYU Langone Health).

Noon By Noor: Donated 20 percent of April sales to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

NUDESTIX: The brand is donating 20 percent of each Sun & Sea Palette purchased to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

PCA SKIN: Donated 100 percent of April daily care mask sales to FABRIC’s Arizona Apparel Foundation to ramp up production of PPE.

Prabal Gurung: The high-fashion brand gave N95 respirator masks to New York City hospitals and frontline medical personnel.

Prada: Produced 110,00 face masks and 80,000 medical garments for Tuscan hospitals.

Puma: Giving away more than 20,000 pairs of sneakers and over 5,000 pieces of apparel and accessories to health care workers.

Pyer Moss: Allocating $10,000 to purchase necessary supplies for medical workers. The brand is also making 1,000 mask covers for frontline workers.

REEF: The brand pledged 5 percent of online sales to the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT Foundation) to support EMTs and first responders across the country.

Reformation: Producing face masks for health care professionals, grocery store employees and food delivery workers.

Retrouvé: Donated a percentage of its April online sales to the Frontline Responders Fund to help get PPE to the people who require it most.

Rowing Blazers: Making face masks and donating some to workers at New York City’s Food Bank.

Roxanne Assoulin: Donating 10 percent of proceeds from its Remind Yourself bracelet to the COVID-19 Direct Relief Fund.

Sandro: Delivered 1,000 masks to a French hospital in Aulnay-sous-Bois with more to come. The brand also plans on giving masks to other hospitals all over Europe and in New York City.

Sant and Abel: The luxury sleepwear brand launched a “buy one, give one to a frontline hero” initiative. Until the end of May, shoppers can gift a set of Sant and Abel pajamas to a frontline hero of their choosing when they purchase a pair of pajamas.

SEEN: The hair care brand has donated more than $5,000 worth of product (like gentle shampoo and conditioner to help tackle skin issues from PPE) to frontline health care workers at hospitals in New York, New Jersey and Texas. It’s also offering a Buy a Bundle/Donate a Bundle program on its site.

SeneGence: Created and donated over 2,000 hand sanitizers to organizations in need in California and Oklahoma. It will also donate 500 lip balms, hand creams and sanitizers to hospitals across the United States.

Skylar: Launched its own brand of hand sanitizer and donated 20 percent of the initial production to UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and Mount Sinai Hospitals in New York City to aid health care professionals.

Stella & Dot: For every Care Pouch (boasting EVER, KEEP and Stella & Dot products) purchased, it will donate a Care Pouch of similar or greater value to the GLAM4GOOD Foundation that will distribute the pouches throughout the year to frontline workers and communities most impacted by COVID-19.

StriVectin: Donated 2,000 hand creams to health care workers throughout the country.

Tanya Taylor: Made 5,000 non-medical grade masks for New York City hospitals. Plus, for every purchase of an item in its archive sale the brand will produce and donate five additional masks.

The Body Shop: Donating care packages to hospitals in the United Kingdom and 30,000 units of cleansing products to shelters and senior citizen communities.

The HydraFacial Company: Distributing reusable medical masks to those working in health care, public safety and emergency personnel environments.

ThirdLove: Donating 1,000 sets of bras and underwear to the nurses, doctors and health care workers at the University of California San Francisco and several hospitals. That’s on top of the 2,000 surgical masks it donated to the university.

Tommy Hilfiger: Handing out over 10,000 white T-shirts to health care workers in Europe and the United States.

TOMS: Started its own COVID-19 Global Giving Fund and it’s donating one-third of net profits to support workers currently on the front lines. So for every $3 TOMS makes, the brand will donate $1 to the fund.

Tory Burch: Teamed up with 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East to supply $5 million worth of scrubs, sneakers and more to health care workers. The brand is even giving 3,000 yards of fabric to Catholic Health Services of Long Island to make face masks and hospital gowns.

UGG: Delivering robes, slippers and more to frontline workers and first responders staying at hotels.

UNIQLO: The brand donated 20,000 units of AIRism innerwear to Montefiore Health System and NYC Health + Hospitals.

Universal Standard: Giving a free piece from its Foundation collection to medical workers.

Veil Cosmetics: Plans on donating over $15,000 in beauty products to hospitals, including Mount Sinai and NewYork-Presbyterian.

Vera Bradley: Making masks for essential workers and passing out other much-needed gear like scrubs.

Vince: Donated 30,000 face masks to New York and Los Angeles hospitals.

Wander Beauty: Donated a Good to Go Mini Hair Essentials Kit to a health care worker for every purchase of a full-size skin care, hair or body product from April 1 through April 3.

How To Use An AED?

Photo by Pixabay on Pexels.com It's a normal day and you are walking in the mall with a friend when suddenly, a person near you clutches his chest and collapse. Just like that, you are in the middle of cardiac emergency. What should you do to help? AED stands for automated external defibrillator. Heart.org defines AED as a portable lightweight device that delivers an electric shock to the heart. AED is a very sophisticated device and can be used to help people experiencing cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest results from the failure of the heart to pump blood effectively. The lack of blood flow to the brain causes the person to faint and loss consciousness. AED can increase the survival rate for cardiac arrest. The survival rate for cardiac arrest is less than 10%. If the victim receives defibrillation within the first minute, the survival rate is 90%. For every minute without defibrillation, survival rate decreases by 10%, thus time is critical when saving a person from cardiac arrest. Aed.com states that many people misunderstood how an AED works. AED will produce the shock only when the heart is quivering. Normally, an electrical system controls the heart so it pumps in a rhythmic pattern. Disorganized or abnormal electrical activity in the heart can cause irregular heartbeat or the heart beats rapidly or erratically leading to cardiac arrest. When the victim's heart behaves erratically, then the shock from an AED is useful. AED can automatically diagnose different types of heartbeat. The device knows if the heart needs to be shocked or not. What does the shock do to the heart? When a quivering heart is detected, the AED will prepare itself for shock delivery. The shock from an AED depolarizes the heart muscle, meaning it actually stops the heart. That's what AED does. It shocks and stops all the electrical activity in the heart. After the heart stops, amazingly, it has the ability to reset its natural pacemaker and hopefully, the problem disappears so that the heart can beat normally again. AED is a very sophisticated device and it is very important during cardiac arrest. The following are the steps in using an automated external defibrillator. First, make sure the victim is having cardiac arrest. Confirm cardiac arrest if the person is unresponsive, not breathing, and no pulse.After assessing the emergency situation, call 911 and let them know you are planning to use an AED.If you are alone, start CPR right away, if you are not, have another person perform CPR while you locate and setup the AED.Before using AED, make sure the victim is not wet. If the victim is wet, dry them off. If the immediate area is present with water, move the victim to a dry place.Turn on the AED. It will give you vocal instructions on how to handle the situation.Prepare the chest area. Most AED comes with a razor and a scissors. Cut through the shirt exposing the chest. Remove certain items from the victim such as metal jewelries and accessories. Shave the chest if there's a lot of hair.Apply the AED pads. Peel off the backing of the pads. Place one pad on the upper right side of the chest just below the collarbone. Place the other pad below the left breast and slightly along the side. If there are any implanted devices such as pacemaker or piercing, the pads should be placed one inch from them. Let the AED analyze the victim. Clear the victim and let everyone move back. Press the analyze button and the AED will analyze the heart rhythm of the victim. The device may tell you to shock the victim or continue doing CPR. Shock the victim if necessary. Once again, make sure that the victim is clear. Push the shock button on the AED. Expect the victim to move slightly with the electrical force. Once the shock has been delivered, continue performing CPR for 2 minutes. Then press the analyze button again to recheck the heart rhythm. Keep this up until emergency services arrive. Using an AED may sound intimidating but it was designed so that anyone, even a layperson can use it. According to California State law, volunteer responders are not liable for the harm or death of a victim due to unsuccessful rescue attempt, so don't be afraid to use an AED when necessary. "People who happen to be in the area during a cardiac arrest play a critical role in saving lives. Sassy is FIVE!

Welp, the girl child turned 5. It was almost a month ago but she is still, as of today, telling people several times a week that she had a birthday and is five now. So it’s still news around here.

Here was my FB post on her birthday:

Five. I told a friend today that five feels so much like "big kid" 😭 This is the year we send her off to kindergarten. I just can't. Not pictured...shopping as Elsa to pick out presents from Grandma and Papa ("I think everyone will think there is a REAL princess here"). She looked at EVERY ITEM on the shelves. (I HATE shopping, guys) A sprinkle doughnut, painting a little Elsa jewelry box with friends, park time, more friend time at home (she was stoked to have her friends with us all day!!), the library, a movie, pepperoni pizza and daddy found the moon in the telescope before she went to bed! And Corbin came down early this morning to make sure we had put balloons on her chair and to write her a note ("Happy birthday Savannah!!! I will do the silverware for you" 😍😍) He did her part of unloading the dishwasher for her. On this day 5 years ago one of my first questions after she FINALLY joined us in the delivery room was, "Definitely a girl??" Yup. Definitely. And definitely MY girl. Happy birthday my Savannah. We are all on our toes with you around and we wouldn't want it any other way.

Savannah’s personality is SO BIG. I often find myself telling people while we are out, “She’s a lot” with a sigh or an eye roll. Mostly because she is twirling and being loud or roaming around or just absolutely not listening to me. Corbin was so compliant. Don’t get me wrong, he can be very difficult, but when we are out he follows the rules, stays close to me and doesn’t cause a ruckus. Today in Kohl’s, Savannah lagged behind, sat on a giant sloth plush toy while I walked away, yelled, “NO!” at least twice, climbed up on the base of a mannequin while asking why "That lady doesn’t have a head?!” and continued reading a book across the checkout line while I called no few than 5 times for her to come back over to me. And that was AFTER the incident earlier in the day when we got home and she threw such a massive fit because I didn’t wait for her to check the mail (she came inside and took off her coat and shoes KNOWING we were about to walk to the mailbox) that she stomped outside to the edge of the street and SCREAMED, “I DON’T LIKE YOU!!!” for the whole neighborhood to hear. And then went in the bathroom and unrolled the rest of the toilet paper on to the ground “because she was mad”. (She spent QUITE a while learning how one cleans up TP that has been unrolled from the roll....) So yeah. She’s A LOT.

But. I’ve been reading a lot about how the words you use to describe your children has such a massive impact on them. I’ve always known that. In my brain. But my heart is taking notice. I don’t want her to think that she is too much for us to handle or is a nuisance. He massive personality is going to be one of her biggest strengths. It is our job to help her learn how to reign it in when necessary. But also to encourage her to be herself. Not mentioned above is how she delighted the couple ahead of us in line at Kohl’s by telling them, “I just had my birthday and I’m 5!” as they told me about their spunky kid who is now 25. Or how in Food Lion the other day she, unprompted, told an employee at the check out, “I love your skirt” She is unfiltered. Which means, at 5, we get the inappropriate right along with the sweet, beautiful and hilarious. Hopefully the filter will come. But I also have zero concerns that she will be bullied or taken advantage of. She won’t have any of that now and I’m certain she won’t have any of that ever. It took me about 27 years to find that voice. I hope she doesn’t lose that voice.

So. Moving on to more facts about Sassy (aka Van Van, aka Sassums, aka Van Van Q-zles”, she is in Ms. LaShauna’s 4 year old preschool class at APPLESeeds preschool. This is her last year there - kindergarten starts in July 2020! I can’t believe it. She does Kidokinetics this year again (this year it’s Mondays...she stays an extra 45 minutes after school ends and does a sports related activity with Coach John) A friend who observed her after school one day called her “The Mayor of preschool” .... it’s hilarious because it’s true. There are kids from 2-5 in this preschool and since she started at 2, kids of all ages have known her. I know that, at 2, that is likely because her name was ALWAYS being called for some reason 😂 And is probably still somewhat the case now. But she is also just very social and loves to talk to everyone in her presence. So on this particular day apparently several (a lot) of the kids and parents who walked by her that afternoon (she was staying for Kidokinetics so I wasn’t there) said goodbye to her by name. She has also developed a habit of calling someone in each of her circles “bestie” (there is one at gymnastics and at least one at preschool) .It’s so funny to hear things like that out of her mouth. She sounds like a teenager and it’s weird.

She just finished her 2nd season in soccer and is actually pretty good. She scored at least one goal in nearly every game. She shockingly also loved the social aspect of the whole experience. I take her to Sonshine Gymnastics Tuesday mornings for an hour of gymnastics. She wanted to go back after doing dance last year. She likes them both but has gotten really into gymnastics again. It will be interesting to figure out how we are going to do an activity for both kids once she is in school and her things also have to become after school activities. We’ll cross that bridge once we come to it.

Her favorite colors are pink and purple, she loves to watch Fancy Nancy, T.O.T.S., Puppy Dog Pals, Disney movies and recently, this slightly annoying show on Netflix called Masha and the Bear (which also has a few spin offs). There are worse things. She LOVES movies and we’ve see a ton considering her age. She can sit through a movie better than Corbin can at this point. Especially if she also has popcorn and M&Ms.

Favorite foods are pretty standard - mac and cheese, grilled cheese, fruit, But she is also a great eater when it comes to veggies - she loves avocado, broccoli, sweet potatoes, carrots and ranch and spinach. She does NOT love several of the meals I make right now - mostly to be difficult I think. She complains when I make chicken ..
