I felt up to an edit for Voltron. But. This time taking a screenshot of Matt and editing him into Pidge of Voltron Force (2011). Honestly? I love the thought of Pidge being Katie and Matt's brother and this just instills it further. Also, original shot of Matt.

Admittedly, I was gonna use a different shot and have it look like Katie's being a little shit to him. But, I went with this one instead.

I was really busy this past weekend, but I did manage to grind out the past few days of Cringetober!

Day 6 Neko/Animal Features I didn't have much of an idea for it so, so I made a quick edit, originally VF Pidge WAS supposed to have cat features, but he looks more like a squirrel so that's what I'm sticking with

Day 7 & 9 Pinterest Base and Crossover Ship The base for this is from mellon_soup and the crossover pair is VF Pidge/VLD Shiro! @breadstickcat is to blame for this ship, but I actually do think it's cute and is the only kind of shidge I like, the ship name is actually Sharrell though

Day 8 Tumblr Sexyman Plan A was to draw Cecil Palmer since he won the tumblr sexyman poll on here but he has no canon look, plan B was Sans since he won on twitter but i got lazy, so here's the Oncelor LMAO

Day 10 Fursona I chose a Jackalope for this, originally I was just going to do another animal feature thing, but I decided to test my skills on anthro animals, she looks better than i thought she would

Voltron: The Series

So I wanted to make a big post about all the animated Voltron's because I'm neck deep into this series and I must yell about it In total there's five (5) animated Voltron shows, technically four (4) since most focus on the lions. I tend to explain a lot so for my own sanity I'll be splitting this up into multiple posts which will all link back together Dotu/VV (here) - V3D - VF - VLD

In the 80s 1984 is when American audiences first said hello to Voltron! Originally it was an anime called Hyaku Jo Oh Goraion, or Beast King GoLion, from Toei which was mistakenly handed over to World Events Production (WEP) after they vaguely asked for the anime with the lions in it. Soon enough it was renamed Voltron: Defender of The Universe (dotu), dubbed and edited, and became immensely popular, giving us the legend we all know and love! Most iterations of Voltron after this follow the same plot, except for VLD which is a hard reboot and its own series that will be talked about later. In Dotu, the legend is of five (5) space explorers who crash-land onto planet Arus, find Voltron and use him to defeat the evils of the universe. Those five (5) being Keith in Black, Lance in Red, Pidge in Green, Sven in Blue, and Hunk in Yellow. The show is fairly episodic but as it's being adapted from an anime it has some story beats too it, like how Sven became critically injured which led to Princess Allura stepping up to take over blue lion, or the plot with her distant cousins Princess Romelle, Prince Bandor, and Prince Avok of Pollux. The show was so popular that WEP had eventually commissioned a season 2 to be animated from another company as Golion ended at only season 1. Which had some changes to color pallet, overall tones, and even relationships from season 1.

That same year Vehicle Voltron (VV) also came into existence! Also adapted from an anime called Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV or Armored Armada Dairugger XV which has no relation to the Golion anime at all! The gist of it is that a team of 15 pilots explore the edges of the universe to help find new habitable planets to curb the fast-growing population of planets part of the Galaxy Alliance. The group is split into three teams. The air team whose commanded by Jeff, the sea team whose leader is Krik, and the land them whose led by Cliff. They all report under Commander Hawkins who's leading the expedition and the explorer itself. As the anime isn't connected to Golion/Dotu, WEP found creative ways to show that relationships! The main way is that fans were introduced to Pidge's twin brother Chip, another scrappy young kid with glasses who happens to have anger issues, he mentions this connection in one of the episodes "Letters to Home" where Chip waits for Pidge's letter to get to him.

For the last little bit of this, Dotu and VV have got themselves a movie! This is a purely WEP/American creation so no ties to the animes anymore. It's called Fleet of Doom which brings the two Voltron together and explains their pilots' histories while having a side plot that is pure KA fodder. Unfortunately we haven't gotten anything big like this again but in Voltron Force specifically we did get a call back to Vehicle Voltron

Voltron Legendary Defender’s Katie “Pidge” Holt meeting Voltron Force’s Darrel “Pidge” Stoker is to good to pass up. My two favorite NerdBirdsTM

Just imagine it. Some weird enter-dimensional portal opens up and spits one of them into the other dimension (I say Darrel to Vld because his reaction to the flying tank of a Castle of Lions would be amazing). Not only would they be a great, admit nerdy, partnership, but the experience would benefit both of them.

Edit: I draw VF Pidge with a few inhuman qualities, such as a light spattering of feathers and orange blood. It bothers me that both Baltons and Arusians look exactly like humans, so I draw some subtle differences.

Say they meet before Katie got Matt back. I’m thinking Katie would see Darrel as a older brother figure. While definitely not the same personality as Matt, Darrel does have some of the same qualities that makes both Matt and him such lovable nerds (intelligence, natural calm attitude, THAT SNARK SWOONS). He and Hunk have a brotherly connection, both of them acting like the older one in different situations (Hunk in general, Pidge in The Hunkyard and a few other moments), and holy buckets of bread does he act like a mom to the cadets (Draden, Baby, Draden and that last scene of Rouge Trip). Judging by how he’s taken to the cadets, he’s growing into being the big brother rather than the little one, and he would defiantly love Katie to death. Darrel defiantly has a family in the Voltron Force but from what we see in the show, he wants to talk to people, put in more info than just the statistics of the mission, but even Hunk, the second smartest person on the team, and Vince, the “smart cadet,” don’t always get what he's talking about. Katie, however, would. She’s even shown distaste for the made up “science-y”  words Coran gives her to recite (The Voltron Show). He could rattle on and on, and she would be interested and respond. She’s that smart sister he probably wishes he had around the castle. They both have put into a position where they was given the responsibility of protecting the entire universe at a young age. That's some pressure. Darrel has learned to live with it, growing up in that environment but Katie? This is still her first year of being a Voltron pilot. Fortunately she’s handling it well, but I can imagine that both of them would want to sit down and talk about it, get the stress off their chests. And who better to talk to then yourself? After all, we all need expert advice

Screenshot redraws/edits!  So, I had found this new armour design someone had posted to pinterest for the paladins and I just loved it so much, I had to go for it. It works so well and also feels like it’d suit a bit for VF while having that VLD touch still. So, Katie gets to wear it. 

Anywho! Here we go! Clash of the Lions! Lance just sent Larmina off to help Vince and Daniel, taking away half of their strength. But Katie’s still there and as a technopath, she’s gonna enjoy taking control Wade’s pride of robotic lions.  Damn, when the two teen girls make up the strength of the entire team.

Well, these were sparked by talking with @toasthoneyandstardust and @breadstickcat. Thank you both for helping with the ideas.

Katie probably looks for any excuse to hit her brother. As a sibling would. And with the Baltons being mind controlled by Maahox with haggarium infections and me wanting to make it so Pidge gets caught to save Katie and Vince, well, she’s worried, but she’s ready.  Anyway! I wanted a screenshot edit and @toasthoneyandstardust​ encouraged me, as she often does. And I finally found one I vibed with and got to work on it. I’m pleased. I didn’t make the lighting on Katie as dark as the original shot because the shading sucks and makes it so dark and hard to see. So, that part, in my opinion, is made better.  Also, here’s the version without dialogue. 

The dialogue options are endless. From “Pidge has been wanting me to visit Balto, but I don’t think this is what he had planned” to “Oh sure, the Baltons can give us this sort of welcome but I can’t return the gesture? Rude.”  And! The original shot I edited from.

I think the part I hated most was editing in parts of the background where Katie didn’t cover.

Well, I was motivated/inspired by @toastess-with-the-mostess​ to do a VF screenshot edit. And! I decided to put in Katie for the edit! Because I live for siblingverse. And! With this AU in mind? Katie has her drone, Rover! Plus! There’s been some editing done to Pidge! Especially his ears and giving him freckles! I’m thinking Pidge was a bit too protective over Katie and it’s frustrating her. That may be a common thing for them. Also, this is the original shot.

First off, the original was so dark. You couldn’t see in the back. I know, style choice. But still.  SO! When I wanted an edit, instead of just editing, I did a whole redraw with the style. And, don’t get me wrong. I adore Pidge. My precious green lad. BUT! I love the idea of Katie existing and being his sister and her and Vince hanging out. Even if they’re stuck together in a Balton city overrun by ninja scientist zombies and Katie is absolutely calm and even having fun. She probably actually doesn’t mind that they’re Baltons, her own people, she’ll still fight them.  Well then, I guess that’s it.  Also, here’s a no-night tone.

Dude. Shading in black. Once upon a time, yeah, I used to. And honestly? I kinda refuse to shade in black unless it’s needed. On my work, it’s actually super dark brown or blues that I use for the shading.

If these feel familiar? Then you’ve either been binge-browsing my art or you’ve been around for a bit and recognize the originals. From VLD Chip worrying in one piece to VF Pidge encouraging mayhem in another, I decided to put the two pieces together and nix the other parts of them to make them work.  And. Well.  It did work.  So, here we are. And for the Blind Twinverse setup and outfits!  Also, I realized I haven’t drawn Katie for this AU with earrings and I didn’t feel like editing them out. Who knows, maybe Pidge took her out to get her ears pierced (even if she can’t see them).

Here we go! Okay. So, I tried my best. I had the thought of taking VF and putting it in a VLD-based style. And I tried. I may need more practice with edits, but hey, using Matt and Shiro as models for a grasp, I think I’ve got Pidge and Lance of VF down. Also, changed up the armour a bit, making it a bit cooler. And, of course, Lance has his jacket. He deserves it. Even if it probably smells funky.

Ask game: 19

19) What got you into the show/game/book etc.?

Funnily enough, I remember the exact date. My best friend (who’d been watching it for at least 4 months) showed VLD to me on Valentines Day of 2019.

I was hooked immediately (VLD Pidge is still a great character) and finished the whole show within the month.

I don’t know exactly when I got into the other iterations, but from vague memories I can make rough guesses.

DOTU- May or June 2019

VF- November or December 2019

Golion- A good while after discovering DOTU. I was so incredibly confused until I found out DOTU is a redubbed re-edited version of it.

As for what got me into VF and DOTU proper? Definitely the Creativelion334 blog which let me reach out to and connect with other fans.

(Sidenote: it usually takes me a few months to start having the drive to make fanart for a new fandom, hence why my first VF fanart was months after I discovered and binged most of it.)
