Narrative
"The jet was registered to a Scott Eric Summer. He made the Fortune 500 insuring half the Gulf Coast." Calleigh said, walking along of edge of the bank, watching the rescue team look for survivors.
"Did you get a flight plan yet?" He asked her. "It went straight to NTSB. They've got a go team flying in." She told him. She grimaced watching medical rescue pull out several floating body parts, from the water.
"What about fire and rescue?" Horatio asked her, getting back her attention. "They just went out to look for survivors. Delko's with them." She said, smiling lowly at him.
"Is it as bad as it looks?" She asked, looking back at the many bodies floating in the water.
"It's actually worse than it looks." Horatio said, walking off to assist the medical team.
-Time Skip-
"NTSB is on their way in. They're gonna want updates. Flight logistics, weather, eye witness, and reports." A woman said, walking up to Speedo
"Welcome back, Megan" Speedo said, crossing his arms.
Megan Donner, former CSI Sargent. Left due to her husband dying on duty as a police officer, job was then given to Horatio Caine.
"I didn't know you were gonna be in this week?" Speedo said, to her concerned.
"Any survivors?" Megan asked, hopefully.
"Nothing new. They'll be found in the first few hours if we find any at all." He said, taking small steps as they walked, still looking at her concerned. He didn't think she should be back so soon.
"how are we doing on safety?" She asked, ignoring his stares.
"We got it covered." Speedo said, grabbing on to her shoulder.
"This is a level two biohazard site. We should be taking precautions. All personnel should have Tyvek overalls on double gloves, masks and decontamination after every shift. Everyone doses up on antibiotics. Water is full of blood borne pathogens and bacteria from body decomp. Not to mention six thousand pounds of Jet A fuel. No shift should last more than twenty minutes. No food, no or water on site. They won't be able to eat out there. Spray from the airboat props cause contamination. We're treating this as a crime scene which means no object too small, any doubts, bag it, tag it."
Horatio and Megan said at the same time meeting each other half way.
"Okay." Speedo and Calleigh said. "Speed, I guess you're with me." Calleigh said, as Speedo grabbed his processing case and walked with her to the medical team.
"Welcome back Megan." Horatio said, shaking her hand, squatting, watching Eric mark where the dead bodies were found in the water.
"You're the expert. What we got?" Megan asked, crossing her arms.
"Well, no gas puncture, no pitting, no thining of metal, no thermal effect, and we still have to swab for RDXPETN. But I think we'll know more when the evidence comes in." Horatio said, standing up.
"NTSB told us to hold off on recovery." Megan said, stepping in front of him.
"Yeah but they're not here yet, are they?" Horatio asked, tilting his head, looking at her. "Horatio, we've been through this before." She reminded him. "ValueJet '96. I recall it well." He said, ignoring her gaze, looking back to the water.
"Then I don't need to remind you. The Feds have jurisdiction over any air crash. They deputize local agencies. We're working for them." She said, moving again, so he can look back at her.
"The Everglades is a slow moving river with a current that travels about four feet per hour. The crash site slowly degrading while we standing here. We're losing evidence. Four feet per hour. We need to processing right now." He said sternly. Because the time they wasted now, is less time they'll have to figure out what happened.
"That's not your call, or mine." She said lowly.
"Ok." Horatio looked away for a second, clicking his tongue. "Listen. I am sorry for the way things turned out for you. but I did not ask for this job. Anytime you want to take it back, let me know." He said, done with the conversation. He had multiple bodies with missing body parts to process. He didn't have time for the back and forth.
"That's not my call either." She said sadly.
"Until then, let's get to work." He said, walking away.
-Time Skip-
"You need to talk to your survivor." Megan said, to Horatio as they walked out of the department.
"He's in a coma." He said, stopping at the top of the step. "Not anymore. Grace Memorial just called. He woke up." He put his black shades back on and nodded, "then let's go see our survivor/suspect."
They got to the hospital and asked for Mr. Sommer's room number. They slowly walked in as a nurse was giving the man his medicine.
"Did uh, did anybody else? Any of them...make it?" He asked, swallowing thickly.
"Just you. I'm sorry." Horatio told the man.
"We're gonna take care of them. The families. I mean, we take care of our own." He said, nodding.
"That's very commendable. Especially recently in light of your company's recent financial difficulties." Megan said, crossing her arms.
"I'm not sure if I know what you mean." He said, looking in between them.
"We hear that the SEC is very interested in how you take care of your own." Megan said.
"May I ask you where this is heading?" Mr. Sommers asked, looking concerned.
"We'd like to get your fingerprints and a sample of your DNA if that's alright with you." Horatio said, placing his processing kit down.
"Wait a minute. Do I need to have a lawyer present?" He asked, now sitting in the bed.
"Mr. Sommer. What happened? Specifically Christina?" Horatio asked.
"I was in my seat." He said, looking away. But he was lying.
"Actually...Sir, you weren't in your seat. And neither was Christina. which is why there were no friction burns from your seatbelts. So, would you like to try again?" Horatio said, squinting at him.
"I didn't want to say anything because I want to protect her. Christina was acting strangely, that morning, she was very agitated. And she had been drinking." He said, swallowing thickly
"You're saying, she committed suicide?" Megan asked. Looking in disbelief. "I'm saying she jumped out the plane." He said, firmly. "Why didn't you stop her?" Megan asked, looking at the nurse walk back in to give the man medicine.
"I tried to. There 's just no time. When that door opened she was gone, just like that. I don't remember anything after that." He says shaking his head, laying on his side.
"There is something I wanted to ask you. When did you hear the gunshot?" Horatio asked him.
"Gun shot?" The man looked over his shoulder. "What gun shot?" He asked.
"would it be ok if we took your prints now?"
-Time Skip-
Eric Delko walks into the lab and smiles when he sees Zamari.
"Well, if it isn't the best DNA Analyst in CSI." He stands beside her as she smiles and shakes her head.
"What have I told you about coming in here and flirting with me?" She said, labeling test tube's, looking at him.
"Hmm, so you don't want your man flirting with you?" He whispered, nibbling on her ear. Making her giggle and playfully push him away.
"Comportate! No en el trabajo!" She said, adding the tubes into the testing machine. *Behave! Not at work*
"Mis disculpas, Mami." *My apologies, Mama.
"You ran a chemical profile on her hair?" Eric asked, looking at the computer results.
"Trace elements can generally be found on the follicles. Luckly she was a brunette." She said, smiling at him.
"Right. Dark hair stores higher concentrations of contaminents. Nice thing about hair is that it grows at an even rate, about a half an inch per month. Gives us a nice timeline." Eric said, looking at the hair samples.
"She's been using antidepressants for the past year. Prozac and Zolaft. Six months ago, she smoked some pot." Zamari said, showing him the weed levels in her hair.
"And they say blondes have more fun." Making them both laugh. "Here's the interesting part. Three months ago, huge spike of Dilated." She said, pointing to the computer.
"Painkiller? Maybe she had a car accident, surgury or.." Eric said, naming reasons.
"Not according to her medical records. And not at these levels." She shakes her head. "Suicide attempt?" Zamari takes a deep breath and shakes her head.
"Mass spec doesn't lie. Suicide is the only explanation. She was front and center in a SEC investigation, she knew where all the bodies were buried. Maybe she couldn't live with that?"
"Yeah, well, that isn't my job to figure out." Zamari said, handing him the results. Eric laughs and looks around making sure no one sees them. He leaned down and quickly kissed her.
"See you tonight. Be ready by 9." She nodded and shooed him out the lab
-Time Skip-
"Christina was good at keeping secrets. Sommer was banking on that" Horatio said, as they walked into Scott Sommers house. He checked himself out of the hospital, knowing they had caught on to him. He killed Christina pushing her out the plane.
"He just didn't bank on her having a conscience" Megan said, as they walked around Sommers house with guns raised.
"I guess I saved the wrong guy." Eric said, sadly. "No such thing, brother. Not here. Everyone's man is a prince. That's how we sleep at night." Horatio said.
"Lieutenant!" The officer yelled.
"We found Sommer...."
"He checked himself out." Megan said. Looking at Sommers handing from his balcony.
"You're really swinging now, huh Scott"
